I had mine for 13 years also, I gave it to my father-in-law. He’s been wearing it for the last year and a half and I bought a new one. I have watches worth thousands of dollars but I still grab this one every day because it does everything without question and I never have to think about it. Not to mention it’s indestructible, the perfect tool.!
I got the non atomic version at goodwill last spring for $6. It was completely dead. A few hours in the sun and it's been good since. My son wears it daily good G shock
What an awesome and informative review! Not sure how this model has escaped me all this time. I definitely need to add this to my other 5 g-shocks in my collection.
My blackout version just arrived this morning and I already have it all set up and synced thanks to this vid, cheers! It arrived only 30 seconds off despite not having synced in over 5 months, and now it's spot on for good. Years of enjoyment here we come!
Your content is the Casio / G-Shock equivalent of listening to Bob Ross in The Joy of Painting. Relaxing, informative, and wholesome. Keep up the good work. Hopefully you’ll treat yourself to a GMW-B5000 soon ... you’ll not regret it. However, even though my wife likes my GST-W110D, and likes my Rolex, she claims that the GMW is distastefully ‘blingy’. Not to worry.
Maybe I'll change my channel to "The Joy of Timekeeping". Ha ha! That GMW-B500 sure looks shiny. I'll bet my Dad would have loved it. He used to like to let the dog out in the morning and then reflect the morning sunlight off the face of his watch and watch the dog chase the light around. They played that game every day!
I work for London Underground , so accurate time is a must . Ive had one since 2007 , its as tough as old boots . The battery is just starting to show signs of ageing . There’s a shop locally where I can it fitted and replaced for around ten pounds . Will do for another ten to fifteen years methinks .
I have an odd variant of this watch. Bought it a looooong time ago. It’s still going strong. Solar, but no multiband 6. It has a fabric strap with Velcro, but the oddest feature is its memory bank/people’s contact info/directory.
Just picked one up at a garage sale for $3.00. Put it out in the sun all day and it works great. Thanks for the video sure was helpful for setting it up.
Amazing watch I’ve owned mine for 13 years carefree. I just replaced my second band. I actually bought another brand new watch, one just to have as a spare in case they stop making it lol. Such a great video you are spot on
Got mine a few days ago through AMZN as "used" with a medium scratch on the band. Upon arrival the only damage was to the packaging. Watch brand new. All papers accounted for. Screen, however, was blank. Pushing buttons did nothing. 5 mins in the sun and the screen came to life with gauge reading "charging". No adjustments are possible under this condition. After approximately 75 mins in the sun, the gauge read medium permitting mode adjustments and set up. Multi band 6 kicked in at 0004. Watch set to "LAX" and Auto reception. I'm in San Mateo CA 625 miles away from Fort Collins CO. Amazing. After several days of continuous wearing (4 days, actually), the gauge moved to high. Watch is tough. My back up is a GW 5610-1, purchased 2 years ago, which is a tremendous watch in my view. Band shows minimal wear and Multi Band 6 kicks in regularly. The GW-2310 is my every day carry. Very happy. Oh, AMZN used price out the door was $74 for this "used" GW-2310.
I've had a GW-2310 for years. It usually receives a time signal from WWVB in Colorado at night here in California, though in April 2024 the Colorado signal has weakened due to antenna wind damage that will be repaired by about the end of June. These very low frequency signals are weak and best received at night. This watch is on the large side but very lightweight due to the resin construction. With 9 years of use the battery is still going though it seems to take more light to charge than my other solar watches. Recently tried one of the inexpensive LED solar watch 'chargers' and that really gets the battery full. Rugged, lightweight, large, accurate and easy to read with many features, a great watch for action or activities that put other watches at risk.
Excellent video evaluation. I only buy and own Casio atomic with solar watches as to me they're the most cost effective and useful. I bought this model today based on this excellent review.
I love this watch. I use it to gauge and set my other watches. Only 2 problems are 1) I live in NJ. I had to find the "sweet spot" in my house and orient the watch in the right direction to catch an AT signal. 2) I have the FB-1/stealth version. In certain lighting the watch can be hard (but never impossible) to read. Turning on the A EL function fixes this completely though.
tough solar not only means you do not have to pay ££ to change the battery not to mention the inconvenience, you do not need to compromise the water proofing seal to change a battery.
When I first saw pictures of this watch I thought that, with all the angles and its unique watch band, it looked almost like something I'd see a Klingon wearing in a Star Trek show. But, now that I have it, I don't think it looks extreme at all. I like it a lot.
@@GoodTimekeeper The first time I saw this model, I thought it looked anything but cool, now that I've learned a bit more and collected a few other G-Shocks, (including a couple fire package models), and liking more and more the ones with easier to read display / face. Thanks for the video & info.
I've had the FB version for about 6 yrs and love it. Only short comings, I wouldn't even call complaints. As a lot of people say on the FB model it can be difficult to read at times, but can always be read. And for the very cool/stealthy look of the FB I can easily live with it. I'm in NJ/North East coast USA. The radio reception sux. I had to find the sweet spot in the house and face the antenna/6 o'clock position west to get a signal, but like that it is consistent, but only gets L1. I did however find an app ($2.00 US) called Clock Wave where your cell phone gets the signal and repeats it to the watch. Using that I get an L3 signal any time, day or night on both my radio watches AT watches (Casio and Citizen). Bottom line is its a great watch at a very good price for a Solar/AT watch
*_Another version of this model is the G2310R. Its Tough Solar but non-atomic. I obtained that one before my GW-2310._* *_Other than the short bands, the G2310 series is among my G-Shock favorites. The chrome bezel sets these bad boys off nicely!!_*
I had been considering this watch for a long time but I kept passing it up. Now that I have it I think it looks a lot nicer in real life than it does in the official Casio photos.
Hey Greg Anderson you have the best videos you explain these watches and detail I don't know why people make these videos that just show it don't say a word it's just totally stupid but you you have the best videos thank you 💕
I have the g2310 had it since at least 2010. Went through 2 tours of duty in Afghanistan. Been coastal diving with it and really beat it up. In 2019 the strap broke and I tossed it in a drawer. Needless to say it's 2022 and the batter is dead. I threw it in a window for over a week but looks like I'll be replacing the battery but I will say I got this watch for 20usd used and it has put up with alot. I also have the gw2310 which is my edc watch since 2019.
The price has gone up about $25. The best thing about this watch is its solar charging. Resin watches lose their watertight seal when opened. In theory, a good enough watch tech could avoid this, but that will be much more expensive than $10. This would not be close to my first watch, but it would be a great travel watch if going to any place with elevated crime. They also work well while diving if you make sure that no buttons are pushed under water. While dive computers have replaced dive watches, it's not crazy to have a backup, maybe set to show running minutes. Also, to avoid losing a watch, it's best to keep it on the wrist. You need not remove this to protect it. Finally, lots of watch enthusiasts have a G-Shock. It is the ultimate tool watch.
Great review and so much easier than trying to follow the tiny manual that comes with the watch! One feature I really like is the recessed face crystal. Being my everyday watch, I don't worry about scratching the face. "Tough" is a great description. I got this one because I lost / misplaced my last Casio watch. It's so frustrating not knowing what happened to it. Now all I need is a watch (a real watch, not an Apple watch) that I can track with my phone / computer. Does such a watch exist? BTW, I'm not in the habit of losing watches. 🙂
I have some Casios which use Bluetooth and you can find a phone from the watches but not the other way around. I suppose if you need to use the phone to find the watch then one of those Apple or Samsung watches would be the way to go. Some folks really like the Garmin smart watches too but I don’t have any kind smart watches.
@@GoodTimekeeper I'm having a hard time getting my watch to sync with World Time (I'm in San Diego). I didn't have any trouble with my old Casio. I have this one set to go into Power Save and I'm wondering if that has any effect on the sync feature. I've put my phone in various locations around the house and even outside, and it still won't sync on a routine basis. It has synced a few times since I purchased it a month or two ago. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Hi Greg, I am a UK viewer of this video, which is very helpful. How audible are the alarms and beeps on this watch. Most Casios are useless with these functions. In view of this why have them at all? Many thanks. Terry Davis
Thank you very much after 13 years i can finally use the watch. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great video, god bless! It's overall a great little watch and i'm enjoying it wven more thank to ypur tutorial!
I really like this g-shock. I paid 99 cents for it at salvation army. It needed to be cleaned and a little TLC to restore. Someone had put a standard battery in it had to replace it with a rechargeable one. watch cost me $15 in total no complaints here.
I’m glad you put the right battery in there. I get unusually sad when I think about folks who do the wrong thing to a watch, like installing the wrong battery or losing a little “c-ring” so that a titanium bracelet falls apart. But then I get a little angry when someone does something like that and then complains that the watch was bad to begin with. So… someone basically threw the watch away but you saved it! Good work. (Salvation Army, indeed.)
My display shows the time zone NYC whis is correct however I want to see the day of the week. I can't seem to get from the TZ to the day if the week ? 🤔
Excellent video. Just received my watch today and your instructions were easier to follow than reading through the instructions that accompanied the watch. One Question: The back of the watch says GW2310-1. The written instructions I received with the watch (which I haven't read) says, Model # 3195. Do I have the wrong instructions or does this watch have a different model number in different countries?
If you look on the back of the watch there should be the number 3195 in a box indicating the module number. There are a few variations of this watch, including the model GW2320, which use the same module so the instructions are for any of them.
So I got a question I bought one of these watches and every time I try to use the atomic setting it says error I live in California could that be the reason I’m too far away
Greg, thanks for the tutorial...I have the multi band and I was curious if I can adjust to a USA antenna. I'm in San Jose CA. I don't get any signal above l1. Thanks again James
Folks around me aren't familiar with the verb "Schwarzkopfing" but I think it's a very fine verb. I find that I like each of my watches so much that wearing two at a time is the best way to enjoy them. (Too many watches in my collection and not enough wrists on ME.)
@@GoodTimekeeper Hello! So sorry for the cut in like this. Is there any difference between this watch model numbers GW-2310-1 and GW-2310-1JF? I'm thinking that the only difference is that one is made in Japan and the other is not but I could be wrong. Please help. Thanks.
From what I’ve seen, there is no difference between watches where the model designation ends in -1 or -1JF or -1AER. They are meant to be sold in different parts of the world such as the domestic Japanese market or Europe.
@@GoodTimekeeper Ok, that's kind of what I was thinking but I'm no expert😅. However, I do notice that this same watch if bought from Japan(the model number ending in JF) is much more expensive. Over here in the states, the watch can be bought for around 85.00 but if you order it from Japan it's almost 160.00! Funny how that turns out.
Hello Craig Anderson I thought your platform was excellent such a great speaker Casio should hire you anyway thank you for sharing very nice watch thank you so much 🏆
Just took mine out of a draw , been in there a few years, it’s come back to life in some daylight but none of buttons are working yet. So can’t set time etc. Will this work with more charging . Thanks . Great video
Last year there was a rumor spreading all around that funding for WWVB was not included in the 2019 budget so that meant it was going to shut down on January 1st. But NIST never announced any shutdown and there was never a shutdown.
But I have to admit that I was a little nervous on January 1st when I looked at all of my radio controlled watches and clocks and I wondered if they would "do their thing" again. And I was nervous each night for about a week until I realized that everything WOULD still work normally.
@@GoodTimekeeper I would imagine the Ft Carson clock/transmitter serves more than just people with AT watches and would interrupt commercial/industrial users to the point they have to keep it operational.
Curious that after two hours I cannot find anyone to say the "atomic clock" feature works where I am just east of Cleveland, Ohio. I get "most of the U.S.," but that smacks of "one size fits most."
There are several things which can interfere with radio reception, so the people who make and sell these watches are reluctant to guarantee that reception will work anywhere. Personally, I’m just about 350 miles from the WWVB transmitter in Colorado so reception is good all day and night. Others who live in places like Florida and New England tell me they have good reception overnight on a consistent basis. So these should work for you in Cleveland. If not, there may be things in your immediate area which are interfering with reception. Something as small and simple as a wireless charger for a mobile phone can emit a strong electromagnetic field, for example. I have another video in which I discuss radio reception problems and possible solutions.
Hi Greg - as we enter 2020 can I ask you what the latest news is on the USA closing the Multiband 6 Atomic Tower in Colorado - if this were to happen might we then start to see all the other Atomic towers close down.? I live in the UK so am hoping that if the Colorado tower goes ours might stay. Thnx.
james dickson it’s being completely funded and not closing down. WWVB, along with NIST's shortwave time code-and-announcement stations WWV and WWVH, were proposed for defunding and elimination in the 2019 NIST budget.[5] However, the final 2019 NIST budget preserved funding for the three stations.[6]
Yes. The Multiband 6 feature will receive atomic time to keep this watch updated to the correct time, right down to the second. In areas where Multiband 6 reception is not possible then it runs as a regular quarts watch, accurate to within 15 seconds per month.
hola Greg acabo de comprar éste modelo pero el beep es muy bajo . ¿sabes como aumentar el volumen del beep en este tipo de reloj ? porque en el manual no viene ése ajuste. Ya me suscribí a tu canal ,vivo en MÉXICO
Hi Greg! I got my watch like this last week and it’s amazing except I can’t connect to the AC at all. Indoors, outdoors, near windows...nowhere. It tries, them I get “ERR” on the screen. Any suggestions?
Tundra 51419 me too. I have same problem. It says err after atmepting to get the signal. And while trying it goes back and forth to L1 L2 and L3 (not sure what that stands for or means. I live in central IL. Where are you from? Because you have to be within 600 miles of Fort Collins Colorado which is where the USA signal tower is located and sent from. I think that’s my issue anyway. If you look in manual it has a map showing u were all the towers are that put off the signal and I’m just out of range BARELY
I live in New Jersey and had a hard time getting a signal. I put the watch in different places around my house (always facing the top of the watch west - toward Ft Carson Co) until I found a spot that works. Once I found the sweet spot I get a signal every night.
So any metal framed, stucco-covered, or aluminum-sided building is a Faraday Cage, blocking Multi-Band 6. Not to mention electrical wiring so often found in walls. Sounds like Multi Band 6 is an often-useless. "If" is a poor basis to spend one's money.
The dimensions on this watch are deceiving. Its dimensions lead you to believe its a big watch and it is. But I have a small wrist 6 1/2 inches and even on my wrist it doesn't look huge or gaudy.
"will receive atomic time information from any of those six atomic time transmitters." As it happens, that is not correct for me on my property east of Cleveland. My watch will NOT receive atomic time information from ANY of those six atomic time transmitters - not even outside my house with .5 miles of pasture to the west.
They will close the tower in US as the rumors say. It is an outdated technology for verification of the time in comparison to Bluetooth technology (as good as your phone is - buggy from time to time, till the next restart/update). Even (if) it works, you should spread your magic carpet and wait on it praying for 10 minutes in order to receive the signal with enough strength to do the job. Too much external interference that disrupt the signal. Anyway in eastern Europe there is not an effective tower signal as is in many other parts of the world too but the prices of this kind of watches are much higher despite 6 multi band is gimmicky/not functional.
I have had good luck with WWVB reception. My watches and clocks have no trouble setting themselves. But my house is only about 350 miles from the transmitter in Fort Collins.

Yes. This is way I've specified Eastern Europe. The effective range of the Frankfurt tower is about 1500 km (in ideal conditions - no interference from other buildings, signals, transmitters and so on). BG and Greece are on the border/beyond the effective range. Friend of main has G-Shock GW-M5610-1ER. His watch does not receive the signal. This correlates well with the above-mentioned data. A related map is posted below. www.meinbergglobal.com/english/faq/faq_21.htm

I just got one and I'm learning all about it now, so I will be able to do another video soon with it!
@@GoodTimekeeper it was a great find for 99¢. Truly enjoy it along with my mudman and blackout rangeman🙂👍
Awesome video thank you for sharing real nice watch 🇺🇸👌🖐️😎💖👍🤓
Great tutorial!! When scrolling through time zones, do I need to go city by city and adjust for dst?
How is readability compared to 5600 and 5610 at various angles
Thank you for your help.
Great review!!
Thanks again
James
This is a underrated model, very nice, thanks for the video! The color way is very nice too!... Schwarzkopfing it I see! 😂😂
Folks around me aren't familiar with the verb "Schwarzkopfing" but I think it's a very fine verb. I find that I like each of my watches so much that wearing two at a time is the best way to enjoy them. (Too many watches in my collection and not enough wrists on ME.)
One of the archeologist wear this model in the alien vs predator movie
Did they jack up the price to 130 dollars?
What is the use of daylight saving time?
Hello Craig Anderson I thought your platform was excellent such a great speaker Casio should hire you anyway thank you for sharing very nice watch thank you so much 🏆
Are the time digits larger than ones on GW-M5610 and thanks. Great video.
I really like my AE-1300, for the world time, and unique referee style stopwatch. Is there a G-Shock that has those capabilities?
Just took mine out of a draw , been in there a few years, it’s come back to life in some daylight but none of buttons are working yet. So can’t set time etc. Will this work with more charging . Thanks . Great video
When it’s initially started up from a dead battery the buttons won’t do anything until it reaches a medium charge. Keep charging.
Great review.
I've had one since 2005. It died four years ago. Just bought a new one.
Thank you!
Are the numbers bigger on the he 2310 or the he 6900?
How to set the day of the week
Is WWVB going to be shut down or was it just to get attention? Thanks. I love your watch videos.
No its good
Last year there was a rumor spreading all around that funding for WWVB was not included in the 2019 budget so that meant it was going to shut down on January 1st.
I agree. We have no idea how many folks depend on that service to stay just like it is.
Many thanks.
What can I check on the watch cause my light is not working , it does have full solar charge
Module has a fault
@@GoodTimekeeper Thank you for the information. I'll take the plunge.
Here is that other video I made about WWVB reception. th-cam.com/video/A7jY3eCYu-k/w-d-xo.html
@@whs068 Excellent news - thanks for letting me know..!!!
Why call it a "starter" watch?
It’s some of the cheapest g shock model available. Nothing really cheaper than this model and one or two other
Because it likes to start fights with other watches in Gregs collection..Also called a 'Stroppy' watch.
Good video thanks
Does it havee automatically change to keep up up with time
Yes. The Multiband 6 feature will receive atomic time to keep this watch updated to the correct time, right down to the second. In areas where Multiband 6 reception is not possible then it runs as a regular quarts watch, accurate to within 15 seconds per month.
Is this watch stainless steel?? I am planning to purchase one.
No ..it is Silicone incorporated with Titanium a new concept by Casio
Silicone and titanium?
What drug are you on??
DL the clockwave app on ios for easier sync.
I live in New Jersey and had a hard time getting a signal. I put the watch in different places around my house (always facing the top of the watch west - toward Ft Carson Co) until I found a spot that works. Once I found the sweet spot I get a signal every night.
Try putting it in the oven..Gas mark 6 for 15 mins..warm it up a bit
So any metal framed, stucco-covered, or aluminum-sided building is a Faraday Cage, blocking Multi-Band 6. Not to mention electrical wiring so often found in walls. Sounds like Multi Band 6 is an often-useless. "If" is a poor basis to spend one's money.
Nice g Shock watch I to buy one
You should have spit out the dimensions near the start of the video or list them in the description.
The dimensions on this watch are deceiving. Its dimensions lead you to believe its a big watch and it is. But I have a small wrist 6 1/2 inches and even on my wrist it doesn't look huge or gaudy.
Blackout version is $130
"will receive atomic time information from any of those six atomic time transmitters." As it happens, that is not correct for me on my property east of Cleveland. My watch will NOT receive atomic time information from ANY of those six atomic time transmitters - not even outside my house with .5 miles of pasture to the west.
@Douglas Pantera Turns out it was weather - rain. As the weather got better, reception improved. Noe we enter the Dark Months again.
What does he mean "they will close the tower"?.....Also, did you ever hear of people in Europe having trouble with Atomic Watches?
@@johnsain Мy bad. Probably the right expression should be 'shutting down' (Apology, I'm not a native Eng speaker). Below you can find some more information about the rumors. Judge by yourself what of this is true or not.

"Also, did you ever hear of people in Europe having trouble with Atomic Watches?"

@@childrolland If I try my best and find the position My GMW 5610 receives the radio signal. Im in Kosovo. Approx 2000 km from German Radio Tower.
I have a GW6900 which has largely the same functions, including the Multiband 6. I don't have any problems syncing my watch in Europe. Even receiving L3 level during daytime. But i'm living in the Netherlands, so i'm receiving the UK and German pretty strong.
