Hi, great video. I hope you are having a great time in Spain. It is interesting to see how your comments about EVs have changed. I just checked when you got your Porsche Taycan and the video that you made about “Collecting My New ALL ELECTRIC Porsche Taycan” was posted on 10 Oct 2021. Basically, as of today (25 May 2024) you are owning your car roughly for 2.5 years. I am just wondering how it is possible that it took you 2.5 years to figure out how to use a route planning software. No judgement, I am just wondering. But then again, in the John O’ Groats video you mentioned that you just figured out on that trip (= going to John O’ Groats) how the regenerative braking works. That was after 2 years of ownership. Didn’t Porsche explain these systems? Again, I am just wondering. I agree with you that it would be a great idea to do the “John O’ Groats to Land’s end challenge” again with you using all the tools that your car offers. Just one additional comment on your road tripping “style”. You are still charging your car to 100%. This is not effective when you want to reach your destination as quickly as possible. I just want to give you an example (data is based on your charging session at the Porsche dealer in Perth on 27 Oct 2023) how this affects your travel time. John O' Groats to Land's end (Charging at Porsche in Perth on 27 Oct 2023)

Battery (kWh) 80.0 As you can see, the average charging speed between 11% and 80% is more than 4 times higher than between 80% and 100% (165.6 kW versus 40 kW). The last 16 kWh which took you 24 min to charge would have taken at a lower SoC (= State of Charge) just about 6 min. Therefore, you would normally not charge your car to 100% when you are on a road trip. And if you are interested, here are the details of the Porsche’s charging curve (this might vary depending on the circumstances). SoC Charging speed 10% - 30% 250 kW 31% - 36% 200 kW 37% - 70% 150 kW 71% - 88% 150 kW - 30 kW I actually wrote the stuff above before I watched the full video. It is the paid version and a one-year subscription cost me about GBP 50. All chargers are mapped out and if you want to know the details about the charger you can click on the symbol in the map. From the charger that you could not activate continuing your trip south to Benidorm there were plenty of charging options within your remaining range. There was absolutely no need to be stressed out because there was no risk that you would get stranded. Yes, you had lost some time but other than that no need to worry. For me the best option at this point in your trip would have been to continue to the Tesla Supercharger in Valencia, which is just a very short distance off the highway. It is only 57 km from the charger that did not work for you (therefore within your range). Also, you would have avoided going through the city (Valencia). I think that the Porsche Route planning software is probably not the best and I don’t think Waze is a good option either (for the charging planning). BTW: A better Route planner works with Apple Car play and Android Auto. You might want to consider investing (roughly) GBP 50 to get this software because it seems to me that this software has most of the charging points included. (I am not paid by them to say that.) It is probably worth it if it can reduce your stress levels. Enjoy your holidays and safe travels!
Nice post. It was unfortunate that the last charger didn't work, damn you BP Pulse not taking credit cards. But like you I would have just quickly found the next charger manually and gone to that. Lee seems to take a long time at service stops, when I've driven to France I just drive for 2-2.5 hours then stop for wee/food for 20-30 mins and continue, no drama. No need to charge to 90+ % and stop for 50 minutes. At the start of the video the difference in expected time of arrival is 1hr47, this doesn't count any stops Geoff would have to make for toilet, food, petrol etc. So you can easily see how the true difference in time if you did follow the plan and tried to use your stopping time efficiently would be much less.
The thing to remember about diesel, is that most road haulage uses it, and therefore the price will (hopefully) need to stay reasonable. Last year 74 million road miles in the UK were on diesel (mostly haulage), and 46 million were on petrol. Electricity was under 5 million.

Hi, here is some info that might make your life with your Porsche easier and less stressful: I spoke with a friend in Germany yesterday who bought his Porsche Taycan a few months back. He told me that he has "auto charge" on the Ionity network. It means that he doesn't have to activate the charging session with his Porsche card. He plugs in and the car communicates with the network (like Teslas on the Supercharger network). Maybe you should check if this is possible in the UK too. Also, he mentioned that he once had a problem on the "EON" network. He could not activate the charging session and he tried 4 different cards. He then called a "Porsche charging support hotline". They activated the charger remotely and he could charge his car. Maybe this service is available in the UK too ? Maybe they could have even activated your charging session at the bp pulse charger in Spain.
I drove down from the chunnel to Benidorm once. I avoided all of the toll roads in France and took a leisurely 50mph bimble in my 3.5T van, which saved a lot of fuel.
That segment in Spain, at about 1 hour into the video, where you"re telling the viewers what the charging surveillance machine is showing.. would make a great shareable TH-cam short.. ;)
As the car's software can select the best routes and places to charge. How long before long journeys need to be approved by the government and then when you get to a charger where the car tells you to charge to 70% and it would not let you charge higher. It then tells you to drive to the next charger and sets the speed!
Passports, we always had to show passports when we were in the eu. Also apart from the first section today is Geoff keeping to speed limits, he was racing Porsche’s yesterday.
Great video but just one small complaint. You are driving along, going on about the scenery but we can't see it. Any chance you could keep your camera facing front so we can see it as well please 😊😊 Thank you ❤
Writing from the USA . My brother and I would spend the night at our grandmothers on the weekend sometimes. In the winter when we went out to get the milk it had frozen and pushed up out the top of the bottle.. So many fond memories spending time with our grandmother. A special treat was eating buttered bread still warm from the oven

A great pair of videos. Just watched this one when the SHTF at BP. I posted on Geoffs video and wondered what would happen if your contactless card can't be read by these chargers. Almost a perfect run.
Fabulous motorway views, I would have fallen asleep at the wheel. Sacré bleu that motorway baguette was atrocious. Shame on the Froggies. Stress level not worth it Lee. Abandon EVS

Agree with what you said about the roads in Europe i am a coach driver and remember 1 year driving back from aoasto valley in Italy and all the way through Italy and france on the way back to uk had no problems with traffic everything was running smoothly then got of ferry at dover and got on m25 and traffic jams I knew i was back in uk now
So love the Top Gear Challenge vibes of the video... all were are missing is come random stunt for no purpose like a drag race... oh yeah you talked about that lol
This is fantastic, Lee. I don't think that Spain is as developed as France is, or Germany. They were not that long ago I think, still considered as a developing economy. France definately does have a superior infrastructure with their at location food and mini supermarkets as well. This is a great vlog, indeed.😊
Concord was very popular with the rich ........as it bought them time. Time is the most valuable of commodities every minute you spend waiting for a free charger, waiting to charge is a minute closer to the grave.
If you do the US drive, my suggestion for Geoff is to drive a Toyota hybrid. Camry or Prius. The reason is because the media is saying hybrids are better than EVs. So a hybrid vs EV challenge in the US would be very instructive. Toyota makes the best hybrids in my opinion. Also, diesel cars are not very popular in the US so you might have to consider a very old diesel.
I totally agree with you on the roads in Europe are far superior compared to ours in the UK.. because I've seen scaffolding underneath the M5 longer than it took to build it which was about 10 or 15 year's
I got to be honest, I remember the milk floats in the 70's. I don't remember them breaking down. Guess they had enough acid lead batts for their route. Never heard of milk floats fires too But that clang of glass and the noise of the electric motors, as they leave. That was my alarm clock, loved it. You knew it was time to get up for school and first to get the cream the milk 👌 Remember one year, taking sleigh to get the milk for the local mental hospital. Milk floats snowed in So proud to live in the 70's, 80's, some of the 90's,, Life now sucks, thank F*** I still own a MK2 Escort, Brrrrrrrrrp
Clearly a win for an old 30 years old petrol car which Geoff doesn’t know its history. This is showing us that EVs are just not there. Maybe a current EV would fare better but the governments cannot force us to replace these computers on wheels every 2-3 years to follow the latest improvements and even then, the biggest batteries are not yet to the level of an old petrol car, even in the best weather conditions. Debit and credit cards interfacing with an EV charger in a different country are probably a leap of faith.
The Auto routes in France are 99% privately owned and funded by the toll system hence why they keep the roads in MUCH better condition so people use them.
Getting a big engine sports car with a small fuel tank is way less annoying than EV charging. Done a 1350km day in it and that took 13.5 hours. Took one hour for shopping break, so a 14.5h day. No fatigue at all. 32 celsius avg temperature that day which was nice
Another thing I love about driving in Europe is that drivers only get the information they need. You're not peppered with nanny-style advice on overhead gantries - Check your tyres, Don't drive tired, Plan your breaks, don't drink and drive, blah, blah bloody blah. Drivers are treated as adults. Even the non-auto routes in France are of spectacular quality, likewise Spain. The British road network ain't fit for purpose, and we ought to get compensation, not more charges, for using them.
Another comprehensive win for Geoff. That Volvo R70 what a car. Even that Citroen 2CV over an EV anyday. Clearly EVs are not the answer in this modern world of ours.
Suggestion for US West Coast destination: just South enough of San Francisco to avoid trouble is Half Moon Bay; a gorgeous seaside town with public beaches and a Cameron's Pub boasting the best fish and chips on the coast, a double decker smoking bus, and a reasonable hotel. You can do a lot worse in the Bay Area, birthplace of Tesla. The classic ending to the Cannonball Run, however, is in LA
Just curious why didn’t you just use your phone app to verify the charger? Or I think you needed to hold your RFID card to the reader for a little longer…I drove from Bilbao Spain to Roscoff France in a Tesla, 3 stops, we needed to stop for food etc anyhow at those stops no issues. But I do understand EV’s have their limitations, if you want to drive non stop and not stop for whatever reason you can’t, there are occasions I want to do this and it can be inconvenient, hence when I’m due to get a new car diesel may be back on the table, Mercedes do a E class diesel hybrid that I’m debating and they depreciate very slowly.
Nice one again Lee, lovely scenery. Don't like the charging stops on your car. Pity Porshe did not make a petrol Taycan. Someone has one in the village in beige would you believe but it looks nice.
Greek ferries no longer transport fully charged electric cars Charging limits now apply to the batteries of electric cars and plug-in hybrids on Greek ferries. In other words, most ferries no longer take fully charged electric vehicles.
You can easily fly to Benidorm, but look at all the beautiful scenery you miss flying there. I would absolutely love to drive down there across Europe. And just look at the roads, I don’t think I seen a single pothole throughout your trip (in Europe). Makes you sick when you look at the state of our roads. Another fabulous video boys 😊 well done
Maybe it's only on the toll roads that they're so nice, potholefree. 🤷🏻♀️ Just too good isn't it. Though certain parts of GB roads are good. .. one of the worst are in Hertfordshire!
Now I want to see you do the Perth to Sydney road trip in an EV that you promised when you visited Oz recently. That will really be interesting to see what charging stations are available across the Nullarbor Plain, and just in general overall. The shortest route between Sydney and Perth is 2,496.40 mi (4,017.56 km) according to the route planner. The driving time is approx. 57h 59min. 🥴🥴😵💫
Loads and loads of great ideas when you can pass freely from one country to the next in Europe. Here’s a serious thought though! What realistically changed when we achieved Brexiter with our population? What actually changed with the product we supplied already to the EU before Brexit? Nothing is the answer. The rules are imposed by the EU as s punishment for leaving. Why else would you impose the restrictions? Nothing actually changed when Brexit was confirmed to the day before other than EU regulations designed to punish the U.K. for leaving the European Union. This is 5 year olds arguing.
The EU is not punishing Britain for leaving, but is legally treating us as a third country, which we now are. Brexiters should have realised this when they voted.
@@SuperLittleTykeI did know this and my prior 20 plus years of global business and knowledge that the EU was about a protection ring for its members, even though it hindered growth and innovation... So it wasn't a surprise to see them behave autocratically. More disappointing was many UK people and almost all our politicians tried to behave antidemocratically
Wow felt for you there Lee, highly stressful. Its not like you can put a can of fuel in the boot for emergencies, or walk to a garage and fetch some fuel if you run short. No, you are well and truly screwed if you run out and thats scary anywhere let alone in a foreign country... you did well to keep it together mate, id have been in tears
That has been a good series so far Mac and Geoff, I'm glad you didn't damage your car on the kerb? and I hope you guys enjoyed the Indian food too. All the best.
The toll roads help pay for the road maintenance. Parents own a motorhome and I have been with my dad and brother to Le Mans in it . On the French roads it was quite and smooth, when you leave the ferry in the UK its terrible as all the plates, cups and oven shelves rattle badly.
The Volvo V70R is a very cool car, especially in saffron, which was only shared with the C70, with the depreciation of the Porsche, and the V70R actually climbing in value, I reckon in about 5 years the Volvo will be worth more than the Porsche
Hello Lee, I've enjoyed your trip to Spain with Geoff. As I said before I live in the eu. As I'm English I have to have a special id card so I can be here. It has to be renewed every 3 years. It's not just me but anybody that isn't an eu citizen. You still have to have passports as not all countries are in schengen agreement. Just to let you know.
If this has proved anything, it's that you need to choose the correct fuel type for your driving needs. You need petrol for short and medium journeys, diesel for long journeys, and you need an EV if you want to be stressed out and late. It's all about choice and good decision making.
Remember some lad pulling up next to us with his drum and bass, hiphop thumping away so my husband turned on our cd of a choir singing Christmas carols full blast! Usually have radio on though. That was a drive and a half though but you seemed to be happier at the end and presumably then met Kevin.
Ever Since driving the new Taycan from Porsche Nottingham McMaster has heaped praise on his Taycan. Charging infrastructure. Porsche Satnav. Cooled seats. Has he got the equivalent of a "Pre-nup" from Porsche. Be positive and no negatives about EVs and Taycan and we will give you a super deal on a new Taycan or make him a "Taycan Ambassador"
Mac saved himself from the embarrassment by that interuption... 🤣What Jeff Buys Cars was going to say before he was interrupted was "It's 4 past 10 and Mac is 6 hours late; wallet is much lighter with that last charging stop" 🤣
I find it interesting that continental service stations are the same as UK....all signs to areas you want are everywhere. But when you want to leave, nothing, the road markings are worn away and signs are missing, hidden. There must be an old geezer driving around for decades still trying to leave.
Hi Lee glad you are well. Just you know my son is getting a polestar 2 EV have a nice journey to Benidorm. Just love your vlogs. ❤️

I just want to give you an example (data is based on your charging session at the Porsche dealer in Perth on 27 Oct 2023) how this affects your travel time.

That glitch spoilt your whole journey Lee. Another great video.
Fabulous motorway views, I would have fallen asleep at the wheel. Sacré bleu that motorway baguette was atrocious. Shame on the Froggies. Stress level not worth it Lee. Abandon EVS
Oh my goodness I started watching this Vlog before the bank holiday been away to York for the weekend then back to work yesterday & only just got to finish the last hours Vlog, that was some drive that Lee really enjoyed it though only moan to many calls to Geoff more scenery please. hope you enjoyed that curry with lots of beer. Onwards
When I win the Euro Millions, I will buy a Porche Taycan, So I can stop every three hours and pose with my beautiful car for a while 🙂
I will move abroad and then I don’t need one at all !
I think Geoffs best driving song is Queen we are the champions.
I got to be honest, I remember the milk floats in the 70's.
I don't remember them breaking down.
Guess they had enough acid lead batts for their route. Never heard of milk floats fires too
But that clang of glass and the noise of the electric motors, as they leave.
That was my alarm clock, loved it.
You knew it was time to get up for school and first to get the cream the milk 👌
Remember one year, taking sleigh to get the milk for the local mental hospital.
Milk floats snowed in
So proud to live in the 70's, 80's, some of the 90's,,
Life now sucks, thank F*** I still own a MK2 Escort, Brrrrrrrrrp
The editing is great, loved the music on the driving scenes
How about the Nürburgring for the next trip. Could also try the autobahn and lots of beer and sausage.
Nurburgring trip like this would be epic. Can test the top speed on the Autobahn legally!
I feel ya pain fella everything going great then its like someone's taking all the marrow out of ya bones. Great video by both 👏
Comparing this video with Geoff's, it's clear you get the specially extended director's cut with the MacMaster!
Geoff prefers to make shorter videos. When The Mac Masters are over an hour my heart sinks some times. Although I do enjoy the content.😊
Jeff's car is showing as untaxed....maybe he's forgotten 😂👍🏻👍🏻
He will get a letter in the post if he passed any ANPR cameras
Beautiful skies on arrival 🙂
I've enjoyed watching the four videos 🙂
Clearly a win for an old 30 years old petrol car which Geoff doesn’t know its history. This is showing us that EVs are just not there. Maybe a current EV would fare better but the governments cannot force us to replace these computers on wheels every 2-3 years to follow the latest improvements and even then, the biggest batteries are not yet to the level of an old petrol car, even in the best weather conditions. Debit and credit cards interfacing with an EV charger in a different country are probably a leap of faith.
Oh Lee! One issue and you fall apart! It's called 'C'est La vie!' Keep calm and carry on! Great vid BTW!
Seeing this explains his videos. If such a small thing could make him completely fall apart like that.
Absolutely brilliant road trip you two
May I suggest Road trip to Italy
Fantastic views beautiful hotels and amazing roads
Once again well done ❤
The Auto routes in France are 99% privately owned and funded by the toll system hence why they keep the roads in MUCH better condition so people use them.
Enjoying the journey Lee. Love the music backing tracks. You play the guitar well😉
Getting a big engine sports car with a small fuel tank is way less annoying than EV charging. Done a 1350km day in it and that took 13.5 hours. Took one hour for shopping break, so a 14.5h day. No fatigue at all. 32 celsius avg temperature that day which was nice
How much were the tolls on top of the fuel cost?
Another thing I love about driving in Europe is that drivers only get the information they need. You're not peppered with nanny-style advice on overhead gantries - Check your tyres, Don't drive tired, Plan your breaks, don't drink and drive, blah, blah bloody blah. Drivers are treated as adults.
Even the non-auto routes in France are of spectacular quality, likewise Spain.
The British road network ain't fit for purpose, and we ought to get compensation, not more charges, for using them.
Glad to see you made it to the finish this time, great trip love the vids. 🙃🦘
Excellent video Lee, much prefer watching you and Geoff instead of watching freeview and a load of adverts lol
The classic ending to the Cannonball Run, however, is in LA
remember frozen milk bottles when the tops pop off and the milk coming frozen
always handy to have a petrol can in the boot🙂
Another cracking vid , really enjoying the trip guys 🇪🇸
BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics perfect car for the journey 70mpg easy cruiser enough power and so frugal on fuel!
Next time stick to the 2hr 30min flight 😂 I get why you did this by car for the experience, glad you made it eventually 😀
I’m off to watch the grass grow
I bet you haven't got any. It's pavement. 😂
Two great vids well done on the drive in the ev it didn't let you down.
Great trip this, enjoying the ride. We went over the Millau Viaduct in our motorhome a few years ago and the drop over the side is mad 😳
Nice one again Lee, lovely scenery. Don't like the charging stops on your car. Pity Porshe did not make a petrol Taycan. Someone has one in the village in beige would you believe but it looks nice.
I'm only here for the iconic V70R 💥
Happy weekend Lee! 🥰☀️🥰xxx
I can see clearly by Jimmy Cliff is the best driving song!
Regarding roads. In France you could pay more money in tolls for one road trip than you pay in road tax per year in the UK.
It depends on the car. Road tax seems to range between £35 and £1000, depending on what you have. Thanks to Mr Sunak.
1:01:58 Reminds me of waiting to see if the old fax modems would connect...maybe they should fit the chargers with the same sound? 😂
what a pain having to stop all those times to charge it up
Guys best intro ever! And guys you are so awake to the Agenda of the WEF
Greek ferries no longer transport fully charged electric cars
Charging limits now apply to the batteries of electric cars and plug-in hybrids on Greek ferries. In other words, most ferries no longer take fully charged electric vehicles.
Idea for next epic trip. Drive to Colditz Castle, dressed as comedy RAF pilots.
The Millau viaduct is quite a big deal. Its P2 pier is the tallest structure in France, 23 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower.
Just too good isn't it.
The striking thing is just how good the roads are in Europe compared to the UK.
Nice one Jeff.. quarter past Ten 😆
My wife calls you the FaffMaster
Remember some lad pulling up next to us with his drum and bass, hiphop thumping away so my husband turned on our cd of a choir singing Christmas carols full blast! Usually have radio on though. That was a drive and a half though but you seemed to be happier at the end and presumably then met Kevin.
Ultimate “road trip” song, Bachman Turner Overdrive’s ‘ Roll On Down The Highway ‘…
What will happen when all the Discount electric run out.
go back to petrol problem solved with bio fuel's not cheap at about £5 per litre but good for the enviroment
Use your own free solar to charge it 😂. It's not rocket science. We have hundreds of free charging in Perth Australia 🦘
Apart from making your own, just buy electric. At full price its cheaper than fossil fuel and unlike fossil fuel it's going to get cheaper.
Absolutely 1st class viewing Lee and Geoff 10 out of 10 for content and sheer entertainment well done Lads 👍
Cold air wafting through your ... aaaah !! Lee drives with his knob out 😂
I need you to make More of these MOVIES with GEOFF Bcars because I think 💬 there awesome
The biggest hcp in all this has been Lee's bladder.
And the carb addiction.
1 hour 32 mark I felt your frustration when you started pleading with that that charger 😂 . Genuine disappointment. Great videos gents 👍
