How often do you have to refill elsewhere? Will there be a solution for refuelling at home? 2. Which parts will I need to service and how often? The car salesman mentioned oil in the engine and timing belts that need replacing and a box with gears in it. What is this? How much will this service oil change cost and how often - and what happens to the old oil. Also, apparently these petrol type cars generally stop on the brakes alone - so the brakes wear out much faster - how long will they last compared to my current car which lasts over 100k miles? 3. Do I get fuel back when I slow down or drive downhill? 4. The car I test drove seemed to have a delay from the time I pressed the accelerator pedal until it began to accelerate. Is that normal in petrol cars? 5. We currently pay about 1.2p per mile to drive our electric car. I have heard that petrol can cost up to 8 times as much. Is this true? 6. Is it true that petrol is flammable? 7. I understand that the main ingredient in petrol is oil. Is it true that the extraction and refining of oil causes environmental problems as well as conflicts and major wars that over the last 100 years have cost millions of lives? Is there a solution? 8. I have also been told that you have to transport oil all over the world to turn into petrol or diesel, and these ships have in the past damaged the environment by leaking the oil. 9. I have heard that cars with internal combustion engines are being banned to enter more and more cities around the world, as it is claimed that they tend to harm the environment and health of their citizens? Is that true? 10. I have been told that these internal combustion engines make a noise when you start them - so early starts can wake people up, and driving a lot of internal combustion engine cars in towns makes towns noisy. 11. is it true people can steal the fuel from your tank? 12. what is the drop in range in cold weather, I've been told a car that does 45mpg can drop to 37 mpg in winter - just curious on that one. 13. a friend told me that the exhausts wear out - is that true, and people steal them for the rare material used in them. 14. I was also told - that the exhaust gas isn’t good for you - and if you leave the car running in a confined space - like a garage - you will die - surely that isn’t true is it? 15. next door told me - these petrol cars - carry around 40 to 60 litres of highly flammable liquid which is pumped into a steel cylinder, and its then exploded to generate expanding gas to move a piston, and turn linear motion into rotary motion. Why would anyone want thousands of explosions happening within a few feet of where your sitting. 16. a guy at work told me - he has a petrol car, and it leaks oil. When he parks it - surely that’s not right is it - leaving dirty marks on the floor and contaminating the environment so directly. How long before this happens if I change. 17. my dad told me - if you buy a diesel car - the hand pump smells very bad, and you have to wear special gloves to stop your hand smelling, and if you spill it on your clothes it terrible. 18. is it true - the petrol and diesel is so dangerous, that you can only buy the fuel at a special filling station, and not anywhere (hotels/Car parks/Home/Work)? 19. while technology is advancing, will I ever be able to refuel my internal combustion car for free using only the sun? 20. would I be better off going straight to horse and cart, and not buying a horseless carriage - they sound pretty awful, burning dinosaur juice and polluting the environment whist funding conflict and war and consuming raw material at an unbelievably high rate.
Go ahead, pay an absolute fortune for an unsellable secondhand car just so you don't have to to spend 5 mins in a petrol station to be able to drive 400 + miles without refuelling again aren't you the clever one just waste your life sitting in car waiting for it to charge ha ha ha ha
Fact: Average motorist does at least 90% of their mileage on trips below 100 miles. Absolutely no need to worry about public chargers then. 3 year old EV depreciates no more than a 3 year old ICE car.

Actually when using V4s (the black ones at the start of your video), you're not blocking anyone. Its probs slow because you started at 90%.... They are upgrading most of them now to avoid the blocking issue/ short cable. And in any case... Id just queue up and wait, not such a big deal.... Also, opening it up to everyone isnt a sign of trouble to the public.. Its a sign of trouble to the big oil financed charger boys who are rinsing the general public at their 80p+ charging networks.... Artificially induced congestion… In the 1990’s Reading town council was narrowing the roads and making them one way in the city centre and then putting bus stops at the pinch point. So that traffic behind the busses would be forced to stop and wait stuck behind while the passengers get on and off. This was done to deliberately discourage private cars from entering into the city centre and force people to use the new park and ride.
Speaking as a Tesla owner, i'm actually OK with the network getting opened. By opening it up, Tesla get more money coming in and they qualify for a lot of public subsidy with which they can build more sites. So as long as they keep building chargers at a good rate then it's ok. At least I haven't yet rolled into a charging location to find it full, even though there are often a lot of non-teslas there. I just wish they put the chargers in better locations.
I will never own an EV, why?...among the obvious multiple reasons, I have no smart-phone, don't want one, don't need one...& I have noticed among my family just how it changes ones personality. No, a smart-phone is NOT just a "handheld computer", it is a totally different thing.
My wife was saying, one of her work mates just bought a 24 plate Audi recently. She wanted an EV Audi, but the dealership she went to, actually advised her against it, as they told her that the infrastructure just ain't there.
Top sales person that, there are a few still good ones around with people's interest as priority rather than targets. I personally value good advice, I have a good relationship with the guy I've bought my last 4 cars from, and he's even said to me, if he's honest and does his best for the customer they'll come back to him. We have a "no bs" relationship, I tell him I want this, I want to pay this, and he gives me the best price "if I play the game and return in a week after they've thought about my low ball offer", no dancing around, no extra well here's this, here's that wasting each others time. The car I have now, I drove an extra 86 mile round trip coz he moved dealerships (thanks to covid closing my nearest) coz I wanted to deal with him, I know I'd get a good deal and wouldn't have to do the whole dance with someone new, I mean I did go to another dealership closer on the way to visiting my nan just for the fun of it, they wanted £65 extra a month than I'm paying, I said no chance knowing I was likely to pay lower and told the lad to go speak to his finance manager coz I full well know that wasn't the best deal. I left and said if you wanna do business email me with a real offer, they never did get back to me, if they had of, I would've considered it with it being much nearer, but their lose there.
ICE cars may catch fire more often but most people carry a fire extinguisher, if your EV catches fire the only thing you need is a pair of running shoes!
Interesting point about the self driving cars reading road signs on a T Shirts and stopping. I had a Golf (non EV but about to get a hybrid). The adaptive cruise control in that car would read road signs and adjust the limiter to the speed shown, so for example where the speed limit dropped to 50 or 40 on the M25 it would reduce from 70 to the new limit. Quite often though I would be steady at 50 and go past a lorry with a '100' sticker on the back in a red circle, and my vehicle would see this and start accelerating again. Too clever by half and don't get me started on the collision avoidance or lane assist which will either hit the brakes when there is no risk of collision, or try to steer you into the back of a stationary vehicle that you are about to overtake!
Chargers are strategically positioned at a car park entry so the fire service can easily get to them or they are down at the back of a carpark to minimise risk to other vehicles, pedestrians and buildings.
ISO 15118 is the standard that defines plug and charge. The problem is that most car manufacturers don't GAF, charging is someone else's problem. Most charging networks don't GAF, they don't make cars. There are a few where this works but few cars on very limited networks at present.
I'm glad you know what the awful plans are. Smart meters in homes so they can switch off your power when they like. Do you all here have smart meters? Anyone seen moragkerr?
Unfortunately the Tesla model S is just too big for the UK but those with a model S with free lifetime Supercharging are laughing, and driving well over 100,000 miles with minimal sevicing (the biggest cost is tyres). Early modelSs with free charging still come on the market occasionaly.
You can sometimes reverse the taycan further back between the tesla chargers and reach the charge point on the car using the cable you are supposed to use thereby not taking up 2 bays. It depends on how they have located the chargers.
Hi Lee, parking eye fxxxxxs. My other half reversed into the entrance to a local p/e policed carpark twice in a few days. She didn't even go into the car park under the barrier but they used the two photo's to make out they had a case for entering and leaving and a £100 fine. They are a total shower of you know what. Also people shopping in our local B & M Bargains and Home Bargains (I'm sure shops a Porsche owner like yourself aren't familiar with) have gotten fines for overstaying by moments. We are being watched and controlled far too much but I do fear it's all the thin edge of the wedge!
Lee, I know I’m usually on here taking the p*ss or having a pop but on a more serious note. I’m an electrical engineer and work for one of the UK’s largest construction companies, we built a multi storey car park in Surrey a couple of years ago and also installed about 140 ev chargers. Surrey fire and rescue absolutely hated the idea, we designed everything well above any current regulations and it was passed by the local council(who paid for the project). The evangelists can say what they want but they are dangerous as foook, if you have a fire while charging and can’t electrically isolate the charger they will keep burning until there’s nothing left.👍
The electric car burns more violently and far hotter and are also near impossible to put out, as they cannot be smothered as they produce internally all the requirements for combustion. A small fire extinguisher can put out a petrol or diesel but not an EV and when burning they are like flame throwers, so they set fire to the surrounding cars.
Lee, I must explain Polestar and where the brand came from. In the 1990s, Volvo had a performance division like AMG, and its name was Polestar. After Volvo was sold to the Chinese, the decision was made to make Polestar Volvos electric car division. These vehicles are premium vehicles and commanded high price tags. Now I believe their like Acura in terms of price point. Now you know where Polestar came from.
Lee - Most Tesla chargers are not 800V. So with a Taycan you are limited by the onboard 400-800V converter in your car. That's 50kW if you didn't pay porsche for the upgrade. Your slow charging is nothing to do with Tesla, but is actually cos Porsche were cheap on your specs. Sorry ☹
The U.S. government will pay Tesla to open its charger network to non-Tesla electric vehicles, and the spending will be spread among other automakers, retail chains, land developers, and others who qualify for public charger subsidies. Tesla's share of the $7.5 billion has not been disclosed. 😮
The reason you get a slow charge is because the Tesla charges up to V3 are 400 v. If you use a V4 Which can supply a thousand volts and more suitable for your car which is an 800 volt architecture (as are Hyundai's EGMP cars), unlike Tesla's 400 volts. I know this and I don't even have an EV because I've spent a year learning about them before I buy. Something everyone needs to do before they waste their money on one that's not suitable for their purposes!
Someone on radio 4 today biging up the ev Market saying how wonderful thay are to drive fast and quiet relaxing and how there's a thriving second hand Market for them with lots of different models and makes to choose from ideal for the retired people and how cheap to run thay are not a mention of the range especially when that retired person is towing a caravan around the UK let alone to the south of France or Spain
I think that because Teslas use a 400v system and a Taycan operates at 800v that affects the rate that a Porsche can charge using a Tesla supercharger. I have heard that it can limit the charge rate and take longer to fill due to that. And a Tesla owner has an a/c with a payment card registered. So they just plug in and walk away as the charger talks to the car and recognises it. Only early Teslas have free charging though. They all pay now.
Ice cars are easier to put out. The water used doesnt have to be collected and treated and ICE car fires dont burn like electric cars do or can spontaniously combust again , days or weeks later and have to be specially processed when scraping- IE stored at least 15 metres from any other vehicle.
Thought you'd like to know your brand of vehicle have been recalled in Australia the batteries have an issue the car can catch fire another excellent reason to NOT buy an ev so buy an extinguisher or up your life insurance love your show leaves us with a smile 😂😅
And people are worried about 'privacy'. Well just get a Tesla and theyll know it all, and more, quite literally. Even though that Tesla guy was really interesting to listen to, I couldnt believe how calm he was in that they had direct access to exactly what was going on in his life. With my ICE car all they know at a stretch is that I fill up at a local petrol station. For everything else they'd have to dig. With a Tesla if they wanted they could get a photo of him in the car, his surroundings, with ease, and he wouldnt even know it. Just my opinion. Great vid 👌
The real reason Tesla opened up their charging stations to non-Tesla cars in the UK is to make more money. It's like inviting your neighbors over for a BBQ when you're trying to sell your house - you want to show off how great your setup is and convince them to buy into the Tesla lifestyle. By allowing non-Tesla cars to use their Superchargers, Tesla can tap into a new revenue stream from non-Tesla EV owners who are willing to pay a premium for a reliable and fast charging experience. Plus, it's a great marketing move - once non-Tesla owners get a taste of the Supercharger network, they might just be tempted to switch to a Tesla for their next EV purchase.
Ah the V4’s - Rumour has it that Musk sacked the whole Supercharger team, as they thought they could defy gravity with those dodgy charger plugs - they put them in upside down and wonder why all the charge guns look like they are dropped on the ground each day by the charger - I visit the one at Trentham every few weeks and always find at least one charge gun on the floor, also look at the state of every gun (6 months in) next time you use a V4! (EDIT: Even on those new ones, look @4:54 )
Now, I did wonder why the gun/handle or whatever they are looked like it had been through the mill. That explains it, dropped every time it's been used, probably multiple times.
If you're using a V4 charger ( they don't have the big hole in the centre), they all have contactless payment. They also have long cables so you don't block two bays. If your charge port is on the left, reverse in and use the charger on your left. If your charge port is on the right, drive in forward and use the charger on the right. Only on the older versions with short cables might you need to block two bays. Finally, if you may use over about 60kWh a month it's worth taking out a Tesla subscription to get the same, cheaper, rate that Tesla owners get.
Haha! I've just stumbled on your videos and saw the massive loss you've made on your Taycan in a previous video. Sad, but proves the point that 'you should have bought a Tesla'! My black M3LR cost just under £50k new, and we leased it through a salary sacrifice scheme, which cost just over £500/month. The 3 years are up in June. We've done just under 20k miles, which has cost just under £700 for electricity. The lease company paid for a new set of tyres last month, which would have cost about £900, and Tesla came to the house to 'service' the car after 2 years and replaced the pollen filter. Probably cost the lease company another few hundred pounds. We've been offered the car for just over £24k, which we will be buying as it's in excellent condition after taking good care of it over the last 3 years. I'm not sure it's quite as good as the Lancia Delta I drove for 3 years, but it is an amazing car in a very different way. So, mock Tesla and EVs all you like, but the reality is you bought the wrong one, and if you choose wisely, owning an EV is a joy and also makes great financial sense. Just to add some balance.
"I think you'll find you should have got a Tesla". I don't have a Tesla but have zero issues with my Ariya, best car I've ever "not owned" you see yes I fully agree with the leasing thing, with new'ish tech like EVs it makes zero sense to buy one. Lease it people. £500 per month is a lot of money but a lot of fans of this channel would think nothing of paying £100+ a month for a Smartphone. I know there are leasing deals around for £250 per month for a new EV. Factor in the savings on fuel (if you have a driveway and can charge at home) and you get to drive a new car every three years for next to nothing or less than nothing depending on how many miles driven per month. Onwards my friend. 🙂
Don't lose sight of the fact that the more cars there are simultaneously drawing power from the grid at a charging station, the slower the charging rate will be for all concerned. The power conduit delivering power to the charging station can only carry so much power. The more cars there are drawing on this 'pipe' the slower it will be. But as always, this is variable.
I use the Tesla chargers all the time in my MG4 they are so much cheaper than anything else and sometimes get the membership that gives you an extra 20% of. I've never had any bother from the Tesla drivers but I often challenge them to an arm wrestle while we're waiting for our cars to charge as it saves having to buy a coffee 😊
I found it interesting that Quentin Wilson specifically mentioned “Zero Tailpipe Emissions”, which infers that he agrees with you that EV’s do pollute the environment in other ways.
So if you charge to 100% at home and then to 80% on your next charge as charging to 100 % takes longer your looking at around a 20 to 30 minute charge and get around 550 miles with Tesla super chargers now available it’s all the easier.
Hospitals are difficult to evacuate in case of a fire. You need to move a lot of sick people to other hospitals. It is too big of a logistical operation so you need to control fires. Having a Luton airport event next door to the hospital is not a good idea
I think it's probably a software thing when it comes to the charging rate. Non Tesla EV software isn't really built for the Telsa Network, so although the charger and the car are capable of more it's limited by the non-compatibility of the software, where as (obviously). Tesla cars are built with Tesla chargers in mind.
Hardware not software. Taycan is an 800V architecture and Tesla chargers (v2and V3 limit at 500V), they get current limited. The 800V cars have an onboard DC DC converter and that's the limiting piece of hardware.
Lee, you forgot to mention charging at Tesla is cheaper than filling with diesel. Is that why you drove passed Tesla super chargers to charge at Worcester Services where it’s twice the price?
I was wondering, now that he has the Tesla app.....is he going to plan his routes for future vlogs a) incorporating them or b) avoiding them 🤔 Controversial!😂😂😂
I think you’ll find that petrol & diesel vehicles mostly catch fire when they’re being driven, the driver then pulls over, calls the authorities who swiftly put the fire out. EVs on the other hand can catch fire when parked or charging or being driven and it takes hours to try to put it out, all the water runoff has to be contained and purified and the vehicle can reignite up to a month later.
I heard recently they just need a blanket or special chemical to put out electric cars. The problem being that firefighters aren't trained on battery fires/thermal runaway.
Hi Lee. It was announced in November 2023 that the company that owns Asda was going to buy the UK Tesla Supercharger network. Also Geoff was driving his 850 T5 which is a 2.3 petrol turbo. If he had been driving his diesel, it does nearly double the mpg.

We need more sites with more chargers like Tesla , a friend of mine came over , told me that she went to charge at Waitrose in Newark only to find the shell charger not working due to having the cable cut off. Apparently bits been hit 3 times by metal thieves.
Wait until the Muggings / EV Jacking begins.......More charging costs [security guards or systems] EV's will be stolen , stripped , and sold back to EV builders. Chassis Metal or Battery Metals.
It's great to pull into a service station when it is absolutely pissing it down with rain, stand undercover filling your car whilst watching battery-powered car owners getting a good soaking, plugging a high voltage cable into their car. And, umbrellas are a pain in the backside at the best of times, and useless when the wind is blowing hard.

Risk assessment is a calculation where the likelihood of something happening is multiplied by the potential severity and impact that it will cause. So if you have something that is quite likely to happen but the impact is quite trivial then the risk assessment score will be low, but alternatively something can be extremely rare to happen but if it does it would be catastrophic, so that risk assessment will be extremely high. … So if the chances of a petrol car catching fire is high but the sprinkler system that is place that will put the fire out, then the risk assessment could be regarded acceptable. Conversely if an EV is less likely to catch fire but when it does they have no way of putting it out, then that risk assessment will be too high and will be deemed unacceptable.

Love it!
Go ahead, pay an absolute fortune for an unsellable secondhand car just so you don't have to to spend 5 mins in a petrol station to be able to drive 400 + miles without refuelling again aren't you the clever one just waste your life sitting in car waiting for it to charge ha ha ha ha
Horse and cart definitely is the future !
Fact: Average motorist does at least 90% of their mileage on trips below 100 miles. Absolutely no need to worry about public chargers then. 3 year old EV depreciates no more than a 3 year old ICE car.
@@JSMITH6298Did you spend your childhood dreaming of being an average motorist? You probably did. Enjoy your dry corned beef or cucumber sandwiches, no offensive crusts of course, while you never drive to anywhere nice or different to where you’re used to in case you are attacked by the mutants in The Forbidden Zone beyond the range of your EV.
Its a good thing, hopefully the competition will reduce their prices too...
Who would take any notice of Wilson in the real world? How many petrol scooters have caught light opposed to electric ones?
Artificially induced congestion… In the 1990’s Reading town council was narrowing the roads and making them one way in the city centre and then putting bus stops at the pinch point.
So that traffic behind the busses would be forced to stop and wait stuck behind while the passengers get on and off.
This was done to deliberately discourage private cars from entering into the city centre and force people to use the new park and ride.
I think you'll find in Australia, Tesla owners use Vegemite.

The salesman probably just thought they didn't seem the sort of person who could deal with an EV

Lee need a bumper sticker on his Taycan that says, “My other car is a Tesla.” 😂😂😂
Chargers are strategically positioned at a car park entry so the fire service can easily get to them or they are down at the back of a carpark to minimise risk to other vehicles, pedestrians and buildings.
Lee! You shite stirring, rabble rousing son of a gun...I LOVE IT!!! Keep up the good work.
ISO 15118 is the standard that defines plug and charge. The problem is that most car manufacturers don't GAF, charging is someone else's problem. Most charging networks don't GAF, they don't make cars.
There are a few where this works but few cars on very limited networks at present.
The plan is to get you out of your vehicle and use public transportation, bicycles or walking. 15-min cities.

Why would you charge it when it's 90%
You can sometimes reverse the taycan further back between the tesla chargers and reach the charge point on the car using the cable you are supposed to use thereby not taking up 2 bays. It depends on how they have located the chargers.
The super charger is working very well..Meaning that the design team, engineering, and most of the office staff are superfluous. That is my take...
the corn digestion timing is a great idea.
Have you had your charging circuit tested at your dealership.? It cannot be every charger that you stop at that, that is faulty
Need to buy a Tesla car cover to blend in 😂
Hi Lee, parking eye fxxxxxs.
Maybe King Musk passed an edict that all Tesla Superchargers have an inferior charging rate for non-Tesla EVs...
Great idea for a T shirt with stop sign printed front & back surrounded by the words. Gota stop a Tesla.
The electric car burns more violently and far hotter and are also near impossible to put out, as they cannot be smothered as they produce internally all the requirements for combustion. A small fire extinguisher can put out a petrol or diesel but not an EV and when burning they are like flame throwers, so they set fire to the surrounding cars.
why does the tesla emblem look like a nail in the coffin
The Tesla owner has to be the most sensible person I've seen in one of these videos
A Tesla looks like a suppository, that was harsh - on suppositories.
I would stop worrying about Quenton Crisp and him spouting on BBC radio....have you seen the size of BBC radio`s audience?
Will your ev become a musician because it knows how to conduct itself?!
They have a target to catch mobile phone users,so they slow you down so cameras pick more up.
Fantastic video again Lee.
1:40!! I just watched a movie about the invention of the Pop Tart that was shorter, and they didn’t name drop Quentin Wilson once 😂
Great vid 👌
Love to see you and Mr Blackpool a round England not just Blackpool has it bee a great watch
In Africa, zero chance. Our distance between town is 400km
Come to UK, you get free house and spending money!! Free health care too
Fantastic Video. Well Done.
Tesla dual motor - just means, it catches fire 🔥 twice as quick!
How do you get out of the back of the car with gullwing doors in a multi-storey car park?
Hospitals are difficult to evacuate in case of a fire. You need to move a lot of sick people to other hospitals. It is too big of a logistical operation so you need to control fires. Having a Luton airport event next door to the hospital is not a good idea
Lot of charging if it were petrol/diesel fill up once or twice depends on the distance 10mins and done.

Why did you take up two bays to be awkward. The V4 charger leads are long enough to reach your car, from the correct bay.
I wouldn’t be arguing about parking if I had a 5 year old appointment. What’s the deal with that? That seems more relevant than the EV aspect.

Unlike charging stations, petrol stations are usually attended where charging stations are not. You are obviously correct, this is a security issue.
It's great to pull into a service station when it is absolutely pissing it down with rain, stand undercover filling your car whilst watching battery-powered car owners getting a good soaking, plugging a high voltage cable into their car.
…
So if the chances of a petrol car catching fire is high but the sprinkler system that is place that will put the fire out, then the risk assessment could be regarded acceptable.
Conversely if an EV is less likely to catch fire but when it does they have no way of putting it out, then that risk assessment will be too high and will be deemed unacceptable.
Eye opening it’s all hassle and time consuming 👍
