    For your information, when you bought the game back in the 90's it came with the CD soundtrack which had no limitations. Its called the Killer Cuts soundtrack and is available on youtube. Highly recommended if only for your personal listening.

      The Killer cuts CD has some of the best music of the era, imo.

    Ah yes. The classic "I'll need a heart transplant after this" kind of music.
    Nice.

    If you thought that the SNES version of Fulgore's theme was cool, you should check out the Killer Cuts soundtrack version of it. The Killer Instinct theme is mostly played on the new character themes from the end of Season 1 to the last Season of characters. Also, when playing the game, the songs are dynamic and change with the action that is going on when playing. Some themes have their original theme hidden in them - if you stop fighting in game, the song will die down and play the main bits from their original SNES/Arcade themes.

    If you liked this one, I highly recommend Sandstorm or Hinamatoom. Or Inferno.

    • @chupasaurus
      @chupasaurus ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Both suggestions are good, but Inferno is quite easy to sell: Trailblazer, the original theme of Cinder, is Mick's favorite track of Killer Cuts; so Inferno is the only "remake"/cover in KI 2013 along with main theme. Also BFG Division is basically Inferno remade through DOOM™ soundtrack creation process.

      @Superintendent_ChaImers ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup, I feel Killer Instinct was Mick's Magnum Opus. It demonstrated just how good Mick Gordon can be when you take the shackles off his ankles and let him be creative.

    • @Superintendent_ChaImers
      @Superintendent_ChaImers ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hell, even the later tracks when Atlas and Celldweller took the reigns was really good. Kim Wu, Battletoads, Champion of Sanghelios to name a few.

    I'm honestly so happy you listened to the original theme first. Old KI actually has so great music as well and I'm pretty sure most fans just agree that KI is full of bangers in general.
    It's great cause you get to listen to what Mick had to work with before he put his own spin on it. You realize how incredibly faithful to the original he really was. Plus, he was also a big fan of OG KI and you can tell with how much fun he was clearly having making these.
    Of course, Type-03 is amazing and I'm stoked you heard it.
    As for the KI theme popping up in the songs, I'm pretty sure all the Season 1 character themes (expect for Thunder's theme, Hinnamatoom) don't actually have it. I've noticed it wasn't until Season 2 and beyond that it starts getting slipped in there.
    Also, I don't think it's just all the original characters considering a lot of the characters that are new to the series in 2013 also have the theme.
    *cough* still waiting on an Inferno reaction *COUGH* 👀

    The loops could be short bc Fulgore killed us so quick 🥲 lmao aaaaa this all takes me back

    • @heartnet40
      @heartnet40 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Theyre actually short because theyre the SNES versions. The rabbit hole goes even deeper. We need him to listen to the original licsensed audio tracks released for and used in the original arcade versions of Killer Instinct.

    • @tokidensetsu
      @tokidensetsu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heartnet40 "Full-Bore" from Killer Cuts was THE SHIT in the arcade version. The SNES OST isn't bad, but compared to the Arcade and Killer Cuts versions, it's waaaaay worse.

    When I first listened to this, if I hadn’t already known Mick Gordon composed this, I would’ve immediately said this was Fear Factory. This style is FF as all hell.

    Don't sleep on KI 2's soundtrack either, Fulgore's KI 2 theme is one of my favorites, and Gargos's theme is referenced musically multiple times in KI 2013's soundtrack.
    (note: KI gold is just the N64 port of KI 2, they have the same OST)

  • @badenoughdude9467

    Those chorus sections are from Fulgore’s KI2 theme! All the returning characters have little nods to their old themes in them.

    A similar song to “Type-03” is “CCIX”. It’s the theme song Kilgore. (TLDR Kilgore is a prototype to Fulgore). It’s more subdued and has more of a techno feeling compared to the thrash/industrial metal mood of Fulgore.

  • @DaronMGL
    @DaronMGL ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It was great to hear the original theme along with the Mick Gordon song.
    There was a version of the SNES soundtrack released on a CD (or cassette maybe, I kind of remember having a cassette), which had longer versions of the songs instead of the loops in the SNES version. I remember listening the hell out of that, long after I had gotten bored of the game itself.

    It's funny because me and my friend always joke about cutting on "Inferno" from KI '13 and throwing chairs out the window.

    Ah yes, the best song ever: Ominous bodily destruction. This song was a perfect fit for Fulgore. The fact it got used by Alvin Earthworm for Metalix's debut was too perfect. xD

    Dang, if ONLY you had also decided to listen to Fulgore's Killer Instinct 2 Theme as well, because that's actually where Mick got a lot of cues from for Type-03.
    Also, the soundtrack version doesn't actually have the full theme. There's an idle theme that includes Fulgore's KI1 Theme that you DID listen to, which would've been nice to see you hear, but you'd have to look for a "Fully Edited" version of the song, which a lot of TH-camrs never do anyway.

    This has some great intensity and sounds pretty good for SNES, this sounds haunting and the sirens really add to that. I get the image of a factory with all the alarms and lights going off from this song. That was good and I like it.
    Now the 2013 version, that build up is great. Makes this feel like a horror film a little bit, I like that the sirens are right at the start. Super robot sounding and just brutal, this one is like fighting in the previously described factory with a killer robot lol. The song sounds like you are just trying to survive, I like the little glitchy bits thrown in. I like the little details Mick throws into these tracks. 5:47 gives me lots of Doom vibes, 6:25 sounds like a machine starting up. Yeah this is a certified banger and I really like it.

  • @tokidensetsu
    @tokidensetsu ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If you enjoyed the SNES' version of Fullgore's theme, I HIGLY recommend you listening to the "Killer Cuts" version (the game came with a CD for the soundtrack which didn't have to deal with the SNES' limitations. It's called "Full-Bore".

    Fulgore is Ultratech's pride and joy. It's also Maximallian_dood's but neither here nor there. ~~I HAVE to believe that Mick was listening to a lot of Fear Factory while making Fulgore's theme.

    I just started going through this series, so I'm late on this, but I'd like to clear up some questions and misconceptions about the music of Killer Instinct.
    --------
    1. SNES is not the original music. The 1994 arcade version of Killer Instinct was a powerhouse that had an internal HDD which let it have CD quality audio. The SNES home port was released in 1995.
    2. "Killer Cuts" was an official music CD that came packaged with the SNES port. In addition to remastered and rearranged versions of the arcade soundtrack, it also includes bonus songs, some of which were cut from the final game. Some character themes (Orchid, Thunder) are more than just remasters and are quite different from the original arcade music.
    3. Killer Instinct 1 has a total of 5 different soundtracks: Arcade, SNES, Game Boy, Killer Cuts, and "Remastered, Remixed, Rare". Killer Cuts is the most popular way to listen to the music of Killer Instinct 1, but it is not always accurate to the original arcade music.
    4. The chorus section that you like so much is a reference to Fulgore's theme in Killer Instinct 2.
    5. You did not hear the classic theme in Type-03 because it's not in the soundtrack release. Killer Instinct 3 has dynamic music that is constantly changing throughout the fight, and there is a lot missing in the official soundtrack. For all intents & purposes, the official soundtrack release is a more of a "Killer Cuts" remaster of Killer Instinct 3's music rather than a gamerip.
    6. TH-camr "RKosmik" has compiled all of the different music transitions and variations. The official soundtrack release, while fuller in sound, has a lot of cut music from the game.

    Thanks so much for the video and your insight and thought around the music.
    If you want to dig more into the KI soundtrack and hear interview from all the comosers. There are a three part documentary made by Hold back to Block. The two last ones are all about the sound and musiic of Killer instinct with all the composers old and new talking about their take on all the songs. They are long but really intresting so if you have the time and intrest I can recokmend them. Might be intresting to react to? Any way thanks again for all your videos! =)

    The Killer Instinct-Type-03 Fulgore theme is actually parts of the original KI soundtrack and its sequel, KI2 soundtrack..
    Mick Gordon pulled ideas from both themes..The sirens coming from KI one(as you already know) and the chorus coming from the KI2 Fulgore theme..

  • @joeydebra763
    @joeydebra763 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The Mick Gordon version references the original KI one in a very small part in the new one but references the one from KI2 much more. Also listen to the arcade versions or killer cuts versions. These are much higher in quality.

  • @Sonichuman
    @Sonichuman ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Ok so here's the low down regarding the KI theme in the OST. All of the returning characters usually have throwbacks to their one of their original themes in the 'calm' section of the dynamic track but for whatever reason Mick didn't include those parts of the characters tracks until Sabrewulf at the very very end of it (kind of plays like a bonus track after some silence IIRC). Any character who is not an original character (new) gets some version of the K.I. theme during the 'calm' sections of the track like Sadira, Hisako, etc. Mick actually started fixing putting the 'calm' sections of the track with Season 2's ost release. When Cell Dweller and Atlas took over for Season 3 and beyond they started slipping the K.I. theme into most of the tracks regardless of whether they were a returning character or not (I.E. Kim Wu's theme). So general rule is if its a new character from Season 1 or 2 or its a character from Season 3 in general of the game you will hear the K.I. theme somewhere in it.
    Its a shame that Mick didn't include most of his 'calm' remixes in the S1 ost because I love what he did with Orchid's theme. If you ever get an opportunity I'd recommend checking out the full dynamic theme that someone else put together on youtube for any character from Season 1 so you can hear them.
