It was so gross hearing her call 1937 dated. Did you know it was entirely hand drawn? No computers to help. It was also the 1st full-length animated color film.
As a teacher I believe art needs to be appreciated within the context of its own time. Remakes and retellings with a twist are great and welcomed but all stories have origins and we should never forget how important they are. Or else we forget how far we've come.
💯% in agreement with you, that movie she so much despised, is actually an artistic masterpiece (8 Oscars at the time!💛🏆👏) that basically invented the concept of full feature film for the animation.
You don't need to be an expert to appreciate it, it's enough to have eyes and heart, to understand and be respectful of a story which has become legendary...

I think the 1937 version is dated. However, she shouldn't have said it over and OVER and OVER again....in an interview in which she is there to promote the movie. She said, "dated" as if it was a bad word. As a child I LOVED Snow White. I asked my Mother to make me Sbow White costume to wear to school for a Halloween thing or something. My Mother sewed it for me ans matched every detail of her dress. I absolutely loved it! I have watched Snow Whote millions of times and have read the original story of Snow White from Grimm.

Personally, I still think that Walt was a genius and he wrote the history books on animation, without him and the original Snow White, we just wouldn't have any animes even in Japan...
The animes we know and love to this days have always been strongly influenced by the works of Walt Disney, especially with Snow White ( 1937 )

In the 1937 version Snowihte cleaned the house because she thought that children live there since all the staff are small, she thought they were orphans with no one who took care of them and it would be a nice thing to do, she decided to take care of the house so they would let her live with them (sorry for the grammar my english is not very good 😅)
You got that right. She was showing motherhood qualities and doing her share as she is an extra mouth to feed. Anyone good mannered would try to alleviate the load of her host who provides roof and food.
I thought it was because she wanted to pay the owners in advance in hopes they'll let her stay. Wasn't her doing housework basically her way of paying rent or at the very least a gesture of gratitude for letting her stay?
Also, this was on the same day Snow was forced to leave home, and had multiple near-death experiences, like the Huntsman. She lost everything, but was still willing to give to others in need. Snow's a lot stronger than folks remember!

I am Latina and I 100% agree that there is no reason for a Latina to be cast in this role. Even if she were White-Latina (which she clearly is not), she would almost definitely be Southern European, not Germanic. I have actually had to directly quote the story to people because they did not want to accept the fact that it specifically mentions her skin color being white. But I also had a huge problem with them casting her as Maria in Westside Story too. They absolutely will not let us have our Puerto Rican lead.

Propaganda aside, it just looks so ugly. Except for Cinderella 2015, every remake is so devoid of color, fun, and imagination. All the backgrounds and side characters had charm and whimsy. There is no more magic.
I just rewatched Cinderella (2015) last night for the second time since its release. Cinderella was always my favorite princess because she looked like me. I was a little blonde girl with blue eyes and Cinderella was just the kindest soul I’ve seen on TV. I absolutely loved the 2015 Cinderella and how it took from the cartoon and the fairytale. Literally the only complaint I have is that I wish the screws wore blue contacts or something 😂 but she is a beautiful Cinderella.

I’m a girl, and I’m 22 years old. And I still love stories about love, whether it was a princess getting saved by the prince or the other way around. What really matter was their true love that save the day, that was what I love about princess movies👑 ❤️
I hope this movie doesn’t make girls believe that wishing for true love makes them weak because that’s not true, girls can be independent and strong in their own way without losing sight of who they are💖

I 100% agree with your comments, because I feel the same way. As a writer, I still love to write about romance and what if the prince saves the princess? Same way as the princess will save the prince in one way or another. These stories are not just about that. Because if you have a closer look they help and save each other and that's love. It's just that men and women are strong in different ways, whi9ch does not take of either their value but rather for them to complement each other, not cometing...

I think it's because of how often romance has been used in the past to sort of push girls into the "love interest" category without giving them any real personality. It's truly disgusting but oh so typical for modern messages of entitlement, disguised as virtue.
That was also in the original . . . She did clean and cook for them and they did acknowledge her as the princess and heir to the throne. The old fairytales ARE problematic (by which I mean layered/unclear/the morals are not always explicit/parents need to explain and interpret them to their children), but that's why it's better for parents to read/tell them to their children to cater the lessons to the individual child instead of plopping them down in front of the TV to watch the Disneyfied version meant to cater to the general public instead of that specific child. If a child needs to learn about cleanliness then yes, Snow's hard work and desire to keep the dwarves' house clean should be emphasized. If it's about respect for others, then Snow and the dwarves learning to respect each other's differences should be emphasized. If it's bravery, then the prince's quest should be given more focus and he should face and overcome dangers, etc.
FYI, if my kids want to watch the original animated movie, I wouldn't forbid it on account of the content, I think the content is fine, I object more to the screen time and the, in my opinion, lazy parenting style of allowing passive and solitary TV watching to be their sole source of learning about stories.

I'm not sure if you're objecting to the original, this one, or both. The beauty of telling children stories yourself instead of letting the TV and Disney raise them, is that you can change elements of the story you don't like. If you think she's a freeloader and your kids would benefit from learning a lesson about that, change it to emphasize that.

She did even when she was terrified to go, she cried in terror of the forest around her, but she picks herself up and decided to make the most of trying to live her new life. Gurl ran through a whole ass forest in terror knowing her life is on the line and entered the first shelter she could find. Also what she did for the dwarves was completely reasonable because afterall she is staying in their home so in exchange she can take care of the house while they are away doing their job. Also she isn't bossing around anyone, sure she does assign tasks to the animals but she also does her part with the broom.
Even though Im not similar to her in the slightest I never found her weak.
Snow White had many strengths though. Her compassion was a strength, her kindness was a strength, her adversary was a strength, her fearlessness was a strength, her ability to summon animals with her voice was a strength and super power. The fact that she held on to all of this despite the wrong doings that were done to her is a strength that most people do not have.
Just because she was feminine, liked to tidy up and wanted to be loved by a man doesn’t mean little girls shouldn’t look up to her. People blame the feminists for this direction that the world seems to be going in, but it doesn’t help that society and especially men have held a very negative view on femininity and all things feminine and womanly being considered weak.
That definitely plays into all of this “woke” nonsense of every new female protagonist having to be a super strong girl warrior who can do everything a man can do.
I think we as a society need to recognize that femininity has different strengths that masculinity doesn’t have and vice versa. Yin and Yang people, equal importance but not equal as in the same.
Original snow white got disney out of bankruptcy and I have an intuition that this new version is gonna be a catalyst to draw disney to bankruptcy. Thus completing the circle of life.

The movie cannot be salvaged at this point. The damage is done, it's gonna stink, it's gonna flop, end of story. Their first mistake was casting Rachel Zegler as Snow White. Not just because she's a woman of color when the part calls for a white woman, but also because Zegler is extremely unlikeable. If Disney wants to prevent another disaster in the future, they need to stop with the woke BS.
She has a extremely unpleasant appearance with an attitude that matches it. Why can't they create new stories where such a woman fits into the context instead of putting her in a already established story?
And yet, all the parents will flock to this movie because they don’t have the guts to tell their kids NO. “But they begged me to take them so, i just couldn’t say no”
I loved Snow White as a child, still love her. I am as white as they make them and Snow White was pretty much the same so it was nice to see someone like that too. Not to mention that it’s actually a German fairytale and I am German. Casting a woman of colour is enough to make me want to vomit.

Tell me why anyone thinks Snow White needs to be some powerful leader? That’s not even what the story is about. It’s just about a jealous stepmother resentful of her stepdaughters beauty, so she ultimately tried to murder her. The literal moral of the story is vanity will not get you fat but kindness will. So ultimately the story should be about how kind and beautiful Snow White is, effortlessly. And how that can get you far in life. The base form of a literal Disney Princess.

Honestly, when I was a child I was bullied for being so pale and not being tanned in summer. They said I look sick and ill (I do have the skin of a Ginger). My mum always cheered me up with this movie, saying being white as snow is still beautiful. I get that we need diversity, but it kind of hurts me seeing the casting. Everybody putting on fake tan and all that stuff to be commercialy besutiful… I think having a really pale female lead would have also been kind of diverse. (Living in europe). I‘d love to see new stories (like Encanto or Vaiana) with other cultures. They have the brains to make new stories, so why not do that?

it’s like they forgot how to write admirable, strong female characters (like Esmeralda, Tiana and Mulan, who were all people of color, too). They want to write strong women but end up writing annoying, entitled Mary Sue characters who are already the best at everything and are really bitchy and entitled about it. Tiana, Esmeralda and Mulan earned respect and admiration because they fought for things bigger than themselves and didn’t let any obstacles get in their way. Mulan and Esmeralda put themselves into very dangerous situations just to help or save their people/ family. Tiana knew about the fact she was marginalised as a black person in 1930s America, but that didn’t stop her from wanting to realise, and eventually realising her dream even one second.
They showed their strengths in their wit, their dreams, their love for the people around them and their selflessness, without losing their femininity. Did Disney fire all the good writers or something?!

There wasn't a problem with the "message". I think she was just a little girl who was learning to understand herself and understand other people and how to celebrate people for being unique and beautiful in their own ways. It is a part of growing up to learn how to find your own beauty in yourself and accept and celebrate beauty in other people. Our current younger generations do NOT know how to do that, and they should. There may be better or different ways to convey that than the original Snow White, but I don't see anything positive or helpful coming out of censoring content.

Pocahontas is not described as beautiful because of her copper skin she is simply a beautiful Native American woman. Whereas, Snow White is described to be beautiful partly because of her pale white skin. There is a difference and kids pick up on it.

In the original story, Snow white was the princess hence the future queen (which the stepmother stole from her as a title and her rightful place), and snow white could've been a queen instead of her if she hadn't stolen her place, knowing her character she would be ruling with love and kindness and portraying the values of empathy instead of greed. She wouldn't aspire to be "like her", she would aspire to be the queen she can be, since each individual is unique.

The whole trailer is disaster. The terrible CGI and replacing real dwarves with terrible cgi. the average hairstyle on the “fairest of them all.” Which is something Disney is always doing. Changing the nature of Snow White's softness to this "hard, warrior princess" is eye roll worthy.
Plus, there is NOTHING wrong with needing to be rescued. There have been MANY times in my life when I needed to rely on family, friends, and sometimes the kindness of strangers to help me overcome obsticles. No one can live life fully alone. We need one another.
I was never a huge Snow White fan, to be honest. As a kid, I founs it too slow moving and boring, and I did not like Snow White's singing voice. If I, someone who never really liked the film, am annoyed by this, imagine how many actual fans are livid.

Yes, and Snow White also has power, instead of just giving up she manages to find safety in the woods and survive. A weak character could not do that. Also, in the original Grimm's story, Snow White is only SEVEN years old when she gets chased away from the castle. Considering that, her survival skills are pretty good. Her kindness and naivity saves her because the huntsman can't kill an innocent child, but it also gets to be her downfall since she trusts the "beggarwoman" and eats the apple.

Snow White was not written by Disney, it was written by the Grimm brothers. The new movie has nothing to do with the original story and shouldn't be called "Snow White."
Snow White holds a special place for my family. It came out the year my grandfather turned one. It was the FIRST full-length, technicolour, animated film, my Great-grandfather who was a very manly man, saved his wages so that he could take my great-grandmother and my grandfather to the cinema for the very first time (as they couldn't really afford it) for his birthday. 50 years later, my disabled grandfather, who was an absolute prince among men, got out of bed, and even though he was in incredible pain (he was an injured veteran) took his 9 grandchildren, on his own, to the cinema to watch the remastered version and spoiled us all day 😊 in 2016, 5 months before he died, he watch the film again during a movie day with his 14 great-grandchildren and regaled us with stories about the first time he watched it with his father, it was amazing.This new remake hurts my heart, and I have completely gone off Rachel Zeigler. Shame on Disney. Some things mean more than being PC. Snow white (and my grandfather) taught me that if you are beautiful on the inside, that's all that matters and people will respect you, if you never expect them to do something you would never do yourself, regardless of your status!

The thing too about 1930’s Snow White is that it was a fairy tale for people who wanted an escape from the Great Depression. It offered a story of hope, resilience, friendship and love. Heck, the prince originally had a cool action scene but it was difficult to animate. They used that sequence for Sleeping Beauty when her prince escapes the dungeon and fights his way to her
The fact that Disney could have fix their inclusivity problem with hiring people with dwarfism as dwarfs for the film, but ended up hiring a latina as Snow White.

They replaced dwarf actors with CGI in one of the few movies that does justice to dwarf people. WEARD WEARD.

The worst thing they did was cast a lead actress who is average in looks and below average in personality to a supposed jealous villian who's definitely above average in terms of beauty and personality.

Asked my kid for his thoughts. He listened to both versions and said the original one sounds so innocent and sweet, but the new one sounds like an entitled Karen. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time. He hated the new version so much.

The real problem with Snow White is that they have the casting backwards. Perfect casting would be obnoxious Zegler as the evil Queen and Gal as the pure and innocent Snow White. Each actress would now be perfectly suited to their role. Instant hit!
Instead, they made the villain the hero and the hero the villain both on and off screen. I'm openly rooting for the apple. By what measure is the so-called wicked queen wicked when she is doing what needs to be done to put a stop to a clear and present danger to the power that she has earned once and for all?

Pretty much 90%+ of what you see on screen in American film and TV. Even a lot of what appears to have been shot on location were also shot in front of a green screen.
Not sure how accurate this is. But I've read that the costs of this... thing by Disney has hit $350 million. So essentially Disney have throw away nearly ALL the profits the classic original made.
Sad that Disney no longer shows children the meaning of Love, Care and Empathy…😢

People who say it was because of her character didn't pay attention to the damn story. The mirror literally calls the *Evil* Queen the fairest for years. Are these people trying to say that everyone else that existed before Snow White was even worse than the Queen? I don't think do. The mirror absolutely meant her looks.

"Aber Schneewittchen ist noch viel *schöner* als Ihr" which translates to "But Snow White is even more beautiful than you".
It doesn't make sense that she claims that "fairest means just" because it is not about beauty and nothing about forcing people to clean their own house is just.
