    Hey Mark, I've literally never had so much fun learning about camera gear, your comedian background brings the best sause to it, I'm really glad I've found your channel 😉 and I've also skipped the kit lens for the Sigma when I was buying this camera, best investment ever!

    Love the videos as always, Mark. You've convinced me. I was going to get the Sony - E 10-18mm F4 OSS Wide-Angle Zoom Lens (SEL1018) but this Sigma just seems so much better for my purposes and the cost is even better. Don't ever stop making videos. The stand-up comedy camera review niche is all yours, brother!

      This sigma is the best lens for apsc and micro 4/3 on my opinion. good choice.

    I love this lens Mark. For hand held photography the lens fits comfortably in your hand. Actually, it's more comfortable to hold the ZV E10 WITH the lens than WITHOUT. On a gimbal, its a little heavy with the lens but it works really well if you film with care. Though I prefer Catalyst Browse (its almost a gimbal killer). The ZV E10 is not designed as an action cam or a substitute for a GoPro or Osmo pocket. Used for what it was designed for, I for one am super happy with the ZV E10 - WITH the Sigma 16mm F/1.4. It is awesome! My only gripe is no EV on the ZV E10. If they ever added an EV then it might become my No 1 go-to camera, even more than my full frame Sony!!! Loving your reviews Mark. They are the BEST!!!

    I heard this lens isn't completely silent when autofocusing and I've even seen a few videos talking about it. I really wanna get this lens in the future along with the Sony ZV-E10. I do a lot of ASMR style content so even a little bit of lens noise would be a bit annoying. This lens seems like an incredible value, but if it's not completely silent I just don't know if it would be an issue never having owned one.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Every copy I've tested is dead silent. You have to put your ear on the lens to hear anything. Also - you can just manually focus any lens and then you'll never hear any focusing noise.

    Let me ask you a question. I bought a Sony ZV-E10 camera and I want to find the optimal solution with lens. My main task is to shoot yoga video lessons (distance from 3 to 6 meters), in a low-light studio. But I would also like to shoot outdoors (both photo and video material). Will this Sigma suit my interests or would you recommend another option for me?

    Hey Mark! I had one thought/question for you regarding this lens. Do you recommend buying the camera body only and save the $100? Is the kit lens basically not worth it at all? Also, I know you said the Sigma is good for vlogging, live streams, and in studio, would it ALSO be good for shooting more storytelling/filmmaking videos and comedy sketches as well etc? Appreciate your thoughts, I had to watch the video again to get me some more laughter while getting schooled about lenses. Also if you care to share, would love to hear what all the cool back drop and lighting is you have. That blue is kind of my brand colors, I love the deep blue.
    PS: Now if Amazon would get the black camera back in stock lol, I'm ready to pull the trigger!
    PPS: (I clicked on your affiliate links for the lens and camera, hope Amazon remembers that when I get them!)

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wouldn’t get the kit lens as long as you get the Sigma 16 and then maybe one more lens in the future. For some people, they can’t afford to get a lens with the camera, so the kit lens will do the job, but if you have the budget, you should replace the kit lens. Start with the 16 and then see what else you need. When I’m shooting video, I only use the 16, whether vlogging or otherwise. you’ll figure out late if you need other lenses. The background lights are just RGB lights turned to blue. one is a neewer amzn.to/3EsDlnU and one is a falcon eyes amzn.to/3okoZQZ

      SOOO, I have the ZV E-10 coming and the Sigma 16MM lens too, (BTW, did you that they halted the production on these indefinitely due to chip shortage, their other cameras too!
      NOW I'm trying to figure out what else I need haha!
      Going down the rabbit hole and have no idea what I just got myself into lol. I have an old computer (2013 macbook pro) and just iMovie for the moment, looks like I will have to be upgrading soon to a new Macbook pro cause I know this old girl ain;t going to be too excited about where I'm heading with live streaming and 4K editing for the ol' TH-cams.
      Having said that, what does your Canadian expertise and wicked sense of humor have to say about that? Like, what size data card should I get, do I need an external HD since I only have about 100GB left on my macbook hard drive, do you have any thoughts on a tripod and desktop version, same for lighting, and vlogging type handle or gimba, ND filter etcl? I know you hate gimbals haha. Not much budget left here, now I'm thinking dude, you should have just stayed with your fancy iPhone and Web cam lol. :-)
      I'm in a temp place right now, so prob can't set up a whole studio, but could use some good desktop lighting and hoping I can use my Shure 7SMB for the mic in studio.
      So any suggestions you have for budget friendly necessities to be up and running so I can actually USE this Dougie thing and not just watch it collect $1K dust in the room, ( of course I will not use the name Dougie unless I mention you, I will give mine a name, maybe a sweet girl's name me thinking!)
      Let me know, sorry for the long post, but I feel like you're my bro, and feel free to share affiliate links, I got your back!

    Hey Mark, I really appreciate this in depth video! Question for you, how does the Sigma 16mm f1.4 compare to the Sony SEL35F18 35mm f1.8? I would primarily use it for traveling videos and photos, not for vlogging. It seems like Sony's OSS would be helpful to avoid the hassle of Catalyst Browse, but is the image quality just as good as the Sigma? I'd really appreciate your input!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 35 is great, but it’s a very different focal length than the 16. It will give you more of a 50mm full frame look than the 34 of the Sigma. The OSS will be helpful for photos. But for videos - the footage will still be very shaky. Without a gimbal or Catalyst - handheld video will probably not be smooth enough

    I stayed away from the Sigmas because they didn’t have OSS. However, thanks to Catalyst Browse, it’s really a game changer. The 16mm 1.4 replaced my kit lens and oh boy, night time is daytime with this lens. I love it so much that I just got the Sigma 30mm. Súper Sharp lenses! I already own the Sony 35mm 1.8f but after trying the 1.4 aperture, I’m like I gotta have it. One thing I noticed, is that with the Sigma 30 you can hear the motor when the lens is focusing. It’s not a deal breaker since I will mostly use it at night and won’t be using the audio from the camera. I’m looking forward to complete the trio with the 56mm 1.4 but that will be later. The Sony 50 mm 1.8 oss, is my go to lens for that range. And like you mentioned, with active stabilization and clear zoom you always have that extra reach if needed. I can’t thank you enough Mark for your helpful videos. Please keep making videos on this camera. It’s a beast!

      All that will depend on your situation. If you want a blurry background, you set the lens to 1.4. Try to get your ISO as low as possible. Shutter speed will be 1/50 for video. Just a minute... As far as I know the specific sigma 16mm is a crop frame lens not a full frame. If would be a full frame lens, mounted on an APCS camera the focal length would be 24mm. Right?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this is designed for crop sense bodies, yes. So effectively it is 24mm field of view on the APS-C (in full frame terms). It’s still a 16mm lens on the APS-C, just like a full frame 16mm will still be a 16mm on APS-C, but because of the smaller sensor, the framing will be the same as if you had a 24mm on a full frame in both cases. A 16mm 2.8 full frame and 16mm 2.8 APS-C lens will look the same on the APS-C body.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

    Evening Mark! Greetings from New Brunswick! I enjoy your channel and was wondering which lens would your suggest for the Sony ZV-E10 between the Sigma 16mm f1.4 or the Viltrox 13mm f1.4?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

      both fantastic. if doing a lot of vlogging I would do the Viltrox because it’s wider. a lot of studio work - the sigma because you usually don’t need something so wide in the studio.

      no macro with the 16mm. But the 16mm 1.4 is a bit wider and can get you a blurrier background if you use and ND filter. I use the 16mm all the time because I love it's lowlight ability and it's shallow depth of field. But it is bigger and heavier and cannot zoom at all.

    Yep, the Sigma 16mm is a wonderful lens. I have one for my BMPCC4K. However, for your full frame cameras, get the Viltrox FE 24mm f/1.8. I got it for my A7C. And it will also work with the A7iv. Plus, the Viltrox 24mm f1.8 costs $429 brand new. The Sony 24mm full frame costs $798 (No OSS). The VIltrox works perfectly with the AF system of my A7C.

    Hey Mark! Do you also shoot full frame, or only APS-C? I really wonder wether I should get the Sigma 16 1.4 APS-C or go with the Sigma 14 1.8 if I plan on getting a full frame camera in the next 2 years...

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I shoot full frame and micro 4/3 as well as APS-C. I do it all!! That Sigma 14 art is really expensive but great obviously. But I wouldn’t get it in your situation. All of the Sony cameras go into to apsc crop mode so I will be able to use my 16mm for my A7iv - plus the 60p is crop mode on the A7iv as well. Here is what I would say, don’t buy an expensive lens now that you might use in 2 years if you get a full frame. A lot changes quickly in the camera world and your own needs as well. Also, a 14mm will be very wide on a full frame and even at apsc mode, it’s about 20mm - which I think is still too wide for video. The Sigma 16 is affordable and equal in quality to anything you can buy. I would get that and pair it with the ZV-E10. also, lenses hold their value really well if you wanted to sell it.

    Hey Mark, I got the ZV-E10 with the kit lens for indoor video shooting. I was planning to stick with the kit lens for now but since I will be shooting in the same place and roughly the same distance 99% of the time, I am now wondering if I should return the body with the kit lens and just buy the body only and buy a good single lens separately. • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The kit lens only adds $100 and is a good backup in case something goes wrong. But, if you know for sure the focal length you want, you should go get a better lens than the kit. so it’s up to you if that $100 is worth it to have a backup or a zoom lens for other situations.

    • @anthonyplana8140
      @anthonyplana8140 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SidsTips Yes, the ZV-E10 is definitely worthy of the praise it gets. I see it as an a6400/a6600 but with a less robust build, smaller form factor, and way lower price. Mark did comparison videos that were helpful. If you don’t plan on using the camera in harsh environments, it’s a tremendous value. I decided to keep the kit lens because I paid $780 on eBay for both and I feel it’s worth the $80 to have the lens as a starter or backup. Also since it uses the Sony e-mount lens system, it allows for upgradability into higher end Sony cameras later on using the same lenses.

    Hi Mark! I just got a ZVE10 because of your video and this Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens particularly because I wanted to get into vlogging, fancam vids etc.
    As a total newbie in this field, I have to ask this.
    Why does Clear mode on the C1 button get me a very high ISO thus giving me a bad grainy output video?
    but if I put it in Defocus mode. it's relatively very very good even on night time, even getting easy pro look on it too.
    The lens I have is Sigma 16mm f1.4 and the kit lens hehe

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The background defocus button just manipulates your fstop and iso for you. in the dark, trying to make everything “clear” will put your fstop higher and force the iso high. Don’t use that button. Put the camera in “s” shutter priority. set your shutterspeed to 1/50 and put your iso in auto. then the camera will keep the image good for you. if you want to manipulate the amount of “blur”, you can put the camera in “A” (aperture priority) and set the fstop to low for blurry background or high for (around f8 or f11) for clear. but always out your fstop as low as you can in dark situations. When your iso is low per, you’ll get cleaner footage
