    Di I have to thank you. I have a garbage bag full of my baby brothers t shirts. I have had them for 5 years. Every time I go to cut them find myself just crying and I just can't cut them. I do not want anyone to either. I know it's silly after all this time. He was so full of life n love. To see those quilts bring smiles to the families I have decided to start my brothers memory quilt. I'll think of all the good times n fun we had esp as kids. Thank you!!!

      That’s the way to be rose! Like I said, in my video, I am constantly thinking of the person whose clothing I’m working with great memories. Then when I give it away to the recipient, oh my gosh that’s another wonderful experience. Enjoy the process and thank you for watching😊❤️🐥

    Wow! You are amazing! All I needed was how to adhere the backing on the squares. Some videos did not mention the stabilizer. Next! I found you who covered the subject perfectly. Good voice, simple instructions and clarity. Thank you for giving me the confidence to finish this Memory Quilt.

    Thank you so much for your help with the T-shirt quilt! I love the idea of balancing the quilt with the 6 1/2 and 12 1/2 inch blocks! This is just brilliant! It gives variety and flair to the traditional format! I too am working through the grief of losing the friend that the quilt is in honor of. So it's been really hard for me to start. But I feel buoyed by your positive attitude and your respect for those you honored with the memory quilts that you have made. I know I can do this. Thank you so much! Blessings to you!!!

    Wonderful tutorial on "T-shirt" quilts. I really liked the fact that you showed us how to prepare different types of fabric for the quilt top. Your tip on using the handi-wipes was fabulous! The quilt top with just one T-shirt was inspirational! Thanks for showing us how to do these types of "memory" quilt tops.

    Ive repurposed so much clothing in my quilting journey. Stretch leggings in lycra make good hair scrunchies. Im just about to make a string of bunting for our public pool cafe. And work shirts into shopping bags. I never waste anything in textiles. I have a tub of chopped T shirts to do quilts for homeless people. It doesn't have to be a memory quilt if it's going to a good cause.

    I found it difficult to do T-Shirt quilts because the logos on x_large shirts were up to 16". also, I wanted to vary the colors in the rows and vertical. I enjoyed your standard size t-shirts, but I have shown off t-shirt quilts. Good lick to those who want to do t-shirt quilts.

      In the video on the very first pink quilt that I show, there are two sweatshirts, a bunch of leggings and everything else clothing related, in fact, a pair of fleece PJs, That was the aqua block. The colors and texture were all over the board so I used the sashing’s to tie them together. It was pink grunge by Moda. Then I quilt on my Gammill Statler. I had cuddle on the back, and it just sails right through my long arm. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.😊❤️🐥

    You made lovely quilts with a real mish mash of different types of fabric. These must have been emotionally very difficult to make. It’s a huge responsibility cutting up a loved ones favourite clothes.
    The handiwipe looks like it is basically made from the same stuff as non woven interfacing, without any adhesive obviously. In the U.K. we call them J cloths. Once you’ve used woven interfacing you won’t want to use non woven interfacing again for quilts or quilted items. It gives strength and structure without the stiffness and the interfaced fabrics don’t get those awful papery creases that you can get with fabrics interfaced with non woven interfacing. Especially good when making anything that has to be turned right sides out. They also retain a nice soft drape.

    • @sisterchicksquilting
      @sisterchicksquilting  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you, Yes, it was certainly a mish mash. The SF101 is a light woven interfacing. It’s my fave. Thanks for watching from across the pond😊❤️🐥

    The t-shirts I have the designs are in various sizes. I don’t want to lose the designs so I’m thinking of using the largest design and then making the smaller blocks the same size by adding borders if t-shirt material. What do you think?

    • @sisterchicksquilting
      @sisterchicksquilting  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a great solution Lyn I say go for it. Remember there’s no pattern and the person you’re making the quilt for is going to adore everything you’ve done and be so thankful for the quilt. Thank you for watching.😊❤️🐥

    I've done a couple of T-shirt quilts and gave a couple more in the queue waiting. We have pretty similar methods , but I approach cutting a little differently. I just received a box of clothing that will be the most challenging as the clothes are my Mom's. She passed just after Thanksgiving. I might have to send it out for the quilting...pretty sure there's going to be some tears and a few laughs in those seams--- happy new year to all the Chicks.

      When I make one my thoughts are all about that person if I’ve known them. Your quilt will be a challenge, my condolences on losing your mom. They’re very special, hugs. I’d put Cuddle on the back and love to quilt it for you. My website is the place to start. Thanks for watching.

    How do you decide the amount to charge if someone hires you to do a memory quilt? Thank you.

    Is there a way to estimate how much filling and how much backing you’ll need? Someone is asking me to make one and I’m not sure how to estimate the cost of the backing and filling.

      Do you have a finished size for the top? You will need that first. Measure the backing and batting to be 4” bigger, on all sides than the quilt top.

    Di, what am essential tutorial. I have been wanting to make one. I am thinking of novelty fireman blocks and t shirts he wore during his 25 years. He is retiring next January.

      That sounds amazing, fun and he’ll love it Sara! What I didn’t talk about was the Cuddle backing I always put on the back of these quilts. It makes the quilt so cuddly and soft, they’ll love it even more. Thanks for watching😊❤️🐥

    I cannot believe how many people think it is necessary to use stabilizers. A tsirt quilt without stablizer is easier to construct, less expensive, faster to finish, and last & most important softer and much more comfortable to use.

      If you have beefy tees and not super fine, thin skinny tees. I had a customer bring one to me for quilting with no stabilizer, and it was a nightmare quilting it because I had to have my hands on the quilt almost the entire time because she didn’t control, the weave with stabilizer. Now some shirts are fine without, it all depends on the shirt.

      I've probably made 50 tshirt quilts. This doesn't count the ones others have brought to me to be quilted. Except a see-thru I've never found the need for it. Never had a problem because of no stabilizer.
      I guess I'm reacting because of a stabilized quilt brought to me last month-it was so heavy I felt like I was wrestling a bear😂.
      No criticism intended. I enjoy your videos.
