      YOUR DATES FOR GENERATION ARE WRONG (your average for age of these consumer categories are short by 5 yrs)
      1945-1965 - Boomers Consumer
      1965-1985 - Gen X Consumer
      1985+ - Gen Y / Millennial Consumer

    • @samueljones621
      @samueljones621 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gen X - especially the people born between 1975-1985 are the core of Generation X - these consumers destroyed several fashion, music, movies trends of the Boomers like Disco, Bell bottom pants, etc. GENERATIONS are actually demographies for marketing to categorize CONSUMERS by their tastes & age - Gen X are categorized as independent, rebellious kids that were very sharp with their wallets because mom used to leave us by ourselves with the keys to the house hence our other name 'latch key kids'

    • @samueljones621
      @samueljones621 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, Companies in the 1990s used to categorize kids born as late as 1985 as Gen X like pepsi.
      Kids born after 1985 are known as Gen NeXt - watch?v=ZP_N5cFNmFI
      kids born after 1990 are the Millennials who joined the consumer market around 2008-10 where their impact was felt most prominently - this is all marketing data

But sometimes (sometines more often) I need to be formal so Antonio and Aaron are a way to go. All three of them know their game and I like to combine their advices for different occasions. Should carry the death penalty or at least life with our parole.
      I think the beard chart is wrong as #1 one is clearly a woman and #2 has serious doubts their place in the world.
      Everybody knows that only ladies shave.
      Never understood why men shave, except the services where at least I could claim the paraphernalia as a tax deduction.
      A good barber, who is worth his weight in gold, will be able shape and trim any beard to suit a man's lifestyle.

I avoid streetwear at all cost because I felt every guy my age(18-21) have the same problem with the “Supreme trend”. If you love what you wear go ahead and wear it. You don’t need to spend $500 on that sweater(unless you have the money) and find affordable and alternate brands. As a newer generation, get inspired, improve your wardrobe, and watch channels like this! Thank you RMS for inspiring a younger generation!

    Here's a thought: you as an ex-marine might've considered the DISADVANTAGES of tight-fit suits. You mention tightly tailored jeans etc., but appearances aside, they are not functional. Suppose you want full range of body movement. In loose fit trousers a chap can kick full range, to his shoulder, or head height. He can defend himself, run for a bus, climb a fence etc.. In short, he is POTENTIALLY in natural, comfortable warrior mode even whilst smart. He can step into a car without twanging his undercarriage too. This has been a historical design concern going back centuries, even millennia, look at history's hose, flexible breeches, trousers etc.. We talk about how restrictive pencil skirts, footbinding and high heels were for women, preventing running, but you're advocating for the same unnatural, restrictive styles for men. It's just recent convention, from the 1960s on, that admired tight restrictive styles. In underwear too, today's vests don't go much past the waist, so riding up and losing vital heat in cold. Once fashion loses the functional 'warrior' element, it is, by definition not 'masculine' but fake in essence. Don't you think?

    I'm a millenial (born 89) but I have to both agree and disagree with you here. Yes, overall the millenial gentlemen are becoming more interested in menswear but I work in tech as a developer, and here it's a whole different story. Even some of our managers are trying to connect with us by wearing hoodies and running shoes, wearing a shirt to work everyday is being dressy and if you have a jacket with a dress shirt (like I do sometimes) you're viewed as a "suit", one of those guys who spoils the fun. And, tech is a very substantial part of the millenial work force, creating sort of a split in my generation.

In fact, I don't even identify as an 80s baby because my birth year wasn't a part of the 80s era which began in 1981. I'm an 80s child but not an 80s baby. I finished college in 2000 without a tiny bit of knowledge of internet. I had my first email add at mid 20s and also started to have flip phone in my 20s. The most widely accepted definition of a millennial is 1981-1996. Were the last to turn 20 in the old millennium. We turned 20 in 2000 which was the final year of the 20th century and old millennium. So sorry but your definition is ridiculous.

    It was definitely a fun video and I agree would hold true if it wasn't based on the numbers. I believe many more Gen X'ers (self d.o.b. '65) cared about their over all style and fashion 24/7 365 than the minority of well dressed/groomed Millennials who do, jmho.

    Gen X´rs have a lot of great things in their circle regarding fashion, entertainment, role models etc etc.
    I´m a Millennial myself and i absolutely adore and respect Gen X´rs.
    And i know for a fact that those born in that generation are less prone to insult the entire Millennial generation for our habits and our values.
    Perhaps we should get along right? ;)
    Same for the younger Generation Z, no hate just love for everybody..

    Born in ‘93. I must be among the few who has never followed any fashion trend or popular (among peers) style. As a kid, I dressed simply, until late middle school, when I started imitating my father’s style...he’s a boomer. Later on this developed into the ivy style for me, though the core of my wardrobe is traditional. I guess that comes in part from my grandparents, and my fondness of Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. With regards to facial hair, I have kept a beard for at least 6 years, but now they seem almost overrated; so now I rock a ‘Wyatt Earp’ moustache.
    As for my style role models, you and Raphael are at the top of my list ;).
    Superb video! I enjoyed the comparison.

    Antonio, I love your videos. I have a question. What is your opinion about waist length jackets, such as Ike Jackets, Bomber Style Jackets or Duty/Shooter type jackets? I wear these frequently Because I just like the look of them, plus my pants pockets are easily accessible. Also on that note, what is your opinion on the Mess Dress Tuxedo Jackets, such as in the Military or a Prince Charlie Jacket? Thank you for the great videos.

    Antonio, fashion trends are by and large forced on the public by designers at the exclusive fashion houses of which in turn works its way very quickly into seasonal high street retail. The vast majority of those houses are run by designers in their 40’s-70’s not a Millennial in sight! What we see today is the constant churn in design not a generational distinction in dress sense aptitude/awareness. Not sure you’re on base with this one.

  • @tnetroP

    I don't think it's about the generations themselves but how society has changed and how the internet has facilitated that change. I am gen X having been born in 1969. I was not particularly interested in style when I was younger. But now I am far more aware and try to dress better than I ever did.

    I'm more surprised than I thought I would be about this. I definitely agree with your choices, but as someone who strives to emulate icons of the past, it almost feels weird that my generation is overall more in tune to fashion than yesteryear. Perhaps because the groundwork was made by Gen Xer's, millennials just have so much to work with that we can take the best parts of each decade and make it work for today. Good video Antonio.

    GenX like me are awesome, we forged the world we live in today! All genY people have only been building on what we created! Antonio is a more classic gentlemen, genXers like me were the opposite, we rebelled against all previous styles, it was all about making your own clothes and statements....hence the grunge Era which came out of the punk movement, torn shirts, flannels, etc...I've reverted back to a more classic businessman due to me growing up. But I still bum around the house like I did as a teen. At work, it's white-collar all the way but I still wear a leather jacket and drive a Porsche....will never lose my hardcore!

    I viewed this competition as unbiased although I am a millennial I'm seeking truth not favoritism. There's so many things we're doing better with style & fashion to have a few. Having the suit coats tailored or nipped in at the waist for those who actually invest in knowledge. The are those who still think any suit = $1mil look... not true! I'd have to say the manners definitely go to the older gen but seems like that's it. I learned awhile ago imho, SCREW LABELS! I wear what makes me look good that's quality not a name brand. Unless I'm being paid to wear your label don't expect me to waste my money on an over $ cotton shirt. Thank you for all you do though RMRS, I've learned a lot from you
