This little Murray riding mower is in good condition but has been sitting for a while. Turns out there is lots of water in the fuel that needs to be completely drained out. After draining everything, I had to fight with rust in the engine and once I got all of that purged it finally came back to life.

Good day, my friend. I sell those like crazy. People who have fenced backyards like them, because they will go through a regular walk through gate. They are easy to get on and off, for elderly folks. They also have very small turning radius and mange inclines well because all the weight is over the drive wheels. The weak link in these is the steering gear. Sell them all day long for $800 . Thank you again for sharing your journey :)

Yes you're right about the steering gears on them. They are definitely not popular in my area!

Hey Ellis, these RER's give you the most trouble don't they? I tell you what, that scraping sound I hear from the starter when its cranking over, doesn't sound so good. But I tell you what, a fuel tank, carb drain and cleaning later, new sparkplug, charged battery, sucker runs pretty good now though! Yeah, this one threw me through a loop as well, I was thinking loss of compression due to valves, but the clearance was good on those. If it were the flywheel key, I'd expect engine kickback, and lots of backfiring. Those machines are for lots that are 1/3 acre or less, can get in tight spaces too.

I’ve got one too Ellis. I need a governor spring for this same engine. Can you send me the number for th3 governor spring? Thanks, Ole Plowboy from Kentucky!

That is 4 inches smaller than a 28 inch snapper rear engine rider 😂

I'm a believer that, if your going to go with a rear engine rider, go 30" with a 10HP to 13HP engine, or forget it. lol Having said that, I must admit, that 24" rider is guaranteed to get through any fence gate without issue. Even a more respectable 30" deck, is not going to make it through some fence gates.

@@stellarproductions8888 you can't buy one though. that model was sold in the USA for about 1 year only and then it was BANNED from the USA market. It's now sold all over the world except the USA. they're even sold in Canada and Mexico.

Any idea what the engine model number is on this mower? I am trying to add a recoil start and need the engine model number to order the cup flywheel. Can’t seem to find the model number anywhere on the engine.

These might be on the side of the engine block. You can also try checking the valve cover. Or possibly on a sticker on the gas tank. It varies by engine and year where it is.

I found the sticker, but the numbers are worn off. I do see it is a 12series, but the rest is pretty much gone. I do see the serial number slightly but that won’t help.

There are different governor setups for this engine depending on the year, take your engine model number and type number (should be on a sticker on the gas tank, valve cover or engine block), and there should be an online parts manual for it so you can find the one you need. Don't want to tell you the wrong one!

@@EllisMowersandmore , I appreciate that, it’s the very one that you were working on in the video. If I could just get the spring number. I’m not very good at searching those manuals
