This compact music system came in with the fault of not playing all CDs. Initial testing confirmed the fault. Dismantling and cleaning the optical assembly resulted in a complete fix.

I have the Bose wave music system IV and everytime i try to insert a disc it says it's inable to read that disc, i tried multiple, same scenario, the models 417788-wms, i am thinking of cleaning the lens by watching your video on the weekend, hope it fixes it! I also don't have the controller (i found this bose for $10 CAD at a thrift store)
Good catch, remote controllers are around or you can use a one-for-all type, they work well. Cleaning the optics with an aeroduster can often fix it. Good luck. New videos coming soon.
The Bose Wave Radios with CD players from earlier generations suffer from a well-documented issue with leaking caps, particularly the set within the shielded box towards the middle of the device (power supply to the optical block?). Symptoms would be slightly different from what you've seen (constant skipping), though. Radios from earlier generations (15-20 years old now) need a full recap. Check TH-cam for one or two very helpful videos on this issue. I've done it myself and can confirm that this solves the issue.
@bijankafi Thanks for that. Was aware of the known issues but as this unit had been returned to Bose on previous occasions, I assumed those had been replaced by them.
My CD was playing. It stopped. A message appeared on screen saying CD inoperable. I took CD out, cleaned it, retried . Didn’t work, tried another several CD’s , again does not work. I have a Wave Sound Touch Model # 412534 with a Sound Touch pedestal

Sounds like a problem with the optical block, might just need the lens cleaning, difficult to do so recommend taking it to a local repairer.
