Regarding Red Dwarf (a favourite of mine) I remember reading a Starburst interview many years ago in which the authors stated they purposefully published under Penguin not BBC books because they wanted it to be taken more seriously and not disregarded as a cheap cash-in. The sequel is also excellent.

That's interesting, Penguin certainly has more prestige. I did have Better than Life and enjoyed it but I think I might have donated it to charity decades ago. Thanks for watching and the comment 👍

Another great collection there dude, liking the motif of stacking them on-screen too.
Ah man, i still remember where i was when Red Dwarf first aired. It took a couple of episodes to win me over but what a great show.
Wow, love the cover art on the Total Recall hardback.
    Ps. Check your emails. ✌️

I didn't have room on the table to take them off screen this time, but I might start doing it more often.
I remember watching Red Dwarf at 11 years old and not understanding at least half the jokes, so I got more out of them when I rewatched them over the years.
      Emails...Oh right, will do!

@@reading_MOVIES yeah, I was expecting something more like a British Star Trek when it first aired, but what we got was so much better.

Some really big titles here, 89 was a great year for movies and this selection reflects that.
I wonder why a swastika was used as part of the Dr Who book's cover design? That would get people in a flap these days I bet.
    Thanks for the video dude!👍

Hi, thanks for watching. The Silver Nemesis episode featured a group of Neo-Nazis, hence the swastika. The original artwork it is more prominent, but the BBC wisely shrunk it for the book cover (it's almost unnoticeable now).

I read Infinity welcomes careful drivers and Better than life when I was in Year 8, we had them in the School library. I enjoyed them but always thought they were a bit more bleak than the TV series. I really must read them again.

The Red Dwarf book definitely showed the bleaker side of being the last human and the danger of the 'Better Than Life' game, which was more light-hearted on the TV show. It didn't stop me from enjoying the books, which were still funny for me, but just had the added dimension of the reality of Listers' feelings.
      Thanks for watching.

Great video and collection! Thanks so much for the shoutout. Batman 89 was definitely one of favorites!

Thanks for the comment and for watching. No problem for the shout-out. Keep up the good work. Love your haul videos, much better choice than what's in the UK. My Batman copy has seen better days, though.

4 weeks to write the ghostbusters novelisation 😮, that sounds so challenging

    • @reading_MOVIES
      @reading_MOVIES  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah hard to imagine but I guess some of the hard work of dialogue is provided by the screenplay. I know I couldn't do it. But is was not unknown for novelisation writers to get short deadlines, hence the varying quality. Thanks for watching and the comment!

The Eastwood and Malkovitch movie in the line of fire got a novelzation apparently written in 9 days. I have honestly tried to do my own work and honestly it could take several hours to write a chapter.

Great selection you had for us today sir. I too have the Batman book and Red Dwarf, though I last read them in the early 90's, do you also have the Better Than Life novel? Always loved a good Cyber man adventure, Earth Shock was my personal favourite, I never noticed the swastika in the background until you pointed it out 😅. The Total Recall book looks very cool, expecially with that 60's/70's artwork, I used to have a collection of Philip K Dick short stories with We Can Remember It For You Wholesale and Second Variety (Screamers).

I used to have 'Better Than Life' but I think I don't anymore and it was good too. 'Infinity...' is a good read as it gives a lot of background information and also insight into Rimmer's character.
I'm not a huge DW fan unless it has Daleks and Cybermen.
I have a hardback 'Minority Report' book, which has several short stories, including the ones you mentioned, PKD short stories are better than his novels, in my opinion. Thanks for watching and the comment!

Silver Nemesis is one of my favourites too. Even though it's really cheesy, there's just something I like about it that I can't quite put my finger on. Do you know if there were any major changes made to the novelisation?
Sylvester McCoy is my favourite Doctor, though I think Remembrance of The Daleks might be my number one story from his era.
Some great books in this episode.

Remembrance of the Daleks novelisation is also on my wishlist. It is probably my favourite episode too, along with McCoy as my favourite Doctor (though Tom Baker is still the legend). There is a new edition but I am after a 1st edition which is a bit costly (to match the one I have in the video). I think for me it's purely nostalgia and the first DW episodes I got into. I just watched Nemesis last month on iPlayer and see what differences there are when I read the book...
Thanks for watching and the comment!

I must admit you don't hear that very often. Especially about Silver Nemesis!
McCoy was ok, mostly just naf stories, although he did come into his own in his last season. Ghostlight is still my favourite McCoy.
In related news, RIP Pamela Salem (Toos from Robots of Death). 😢

Haha I know but I do like it, just the right timing for me. Silver Nemesis is cheese but something about the idea behind it appealed.
