Oh my goodness. Mary coming out of this anaesthesia is so so life changing. No oxygen, talking without coughing and no nurses. Trikafta is game changing. And I just found out it has been added to a Government supported medication here in Australia. Such an awesome thing for the families with cystic fibrosis.
@@kathrynaraguz4816 no she is in her ward. You get oxygen in recovery. When you have recovered enough, you go back to your room where she didn’t need the oxygen anymore.
@bridgwll regardless, she recovered incredibly well and was able to leave on the same day. From memory she wasn't well enough to do that for her last port change.
So glad to see Mary wake up from anesthesia without oxygen. It is a small thing, but also a huge thing! I got my port in almost the same place. The placement I like (minus the 1st week.) they put her under because of the removal of the old one...due to the nature of how long it had been in place and her history, they made that decision...she also had it place by a surgeon instead of an interventional radiologist...I had mine placed under conscious sedation..."twilight sleep"...I do remember it, but was sedated...@@srjwildcat3589

Hope to have better luck in two weeks when I go in for my Entyvio infusion and two more weeks after that my colonoscopy procedure.

That’s awful that you had to go through with that surgery. It looks painful. I always have to have a surgery or nose tube. I have a stoma and they removed my colon back in 2011. I do look forward to the cocktail iv meds I get before I go back for surgery. It’s so relaxing. I hope you are feeling better now Mary ❤
I'm glad your ports have worked for year. I had mine for a year and a half, and it was an awful experience. my surgeon messed up and it sat crooked. whenever I would have to access it, it would take the nurses at least 3 attempts to get it right. Hi Mary, It may sound crazy, but I love the feeling of anaesthesia. Especially the moment when you fall asleep. I'm glad I like it, I've already had more than 25 surgery's. 😅 Sometimes when they inject the propofol it hurts like crazy, just like you had. It happened to me twice. They gave me a bit more fentanyl iv to relax my veins and that helped a lot. I'm glad you have a new port! Hopefully you can have it for 11 years or more! Big hug from the Netherlands. 🤗 ❤
I've had a few ports by now and I do look forward to the anesthesia nap. I also look forward to just being put under so I'm no longer anxious. I've now had surgeries in 3 different hospitals since getting my port and all of them have put in a peripheral IV in for the anesthesia as they say they prefer to give anesthesia through a peripheral IV and not a central line. When I've had surgery while I have been admitted to the hospital and we were already using my port for treatments, they told me they would give me the initial induction medications (propofol) and then look around and get an IV so I didn't have to feel anything in case my veins decided to hide that day. I hope your recovery goes well and you get some time to take it easy! I know Peter will keep tabs on you and make sure you aren't doing too much!! Best of luck!
So glad that the port op went well, Mary. E Rest when you can. Stay safe and blessed. Lots of love to you, Peter, Elijah, little one, Ollie and Harry. Jules😍
Am enjoying the fact that the last time you had a port placed. You had Oillie there and you had use elevators. This one Oillie was able to stay home. You did all that walking without any help. That in self is a big win❤
Before my kidney surgery my blood glucose dropped down into the 30 s and they pushed 50 mls of D50 through a peripheral IV and I felt like they were sawing my arm off! Good luck WITH the new port! May he or she or they last 15 years!
Best of luck. I am so not updated. Haven't been able to watch in months because of my health. Miss you guys. Definitely have been in my prayers. I got my third port last year. They have been a lifesaver for me for so many reasons for years.
I don't like being put under. I don't like the feeling when I wake up. Then for some reason I'm in a fog for weeks. And each time is worse than the last. 😢 I'm hoping your port is a rock star!
Mary you are incredible!! When I got my port put in the area they put you in to recover they rush me. As soon I woke up had something to drink n out the door I went
A blessing to see how well you did waking from surgery, such a difference since Trikafta. I figured since u'all hadn't posted, you we're havin surgery, so I've been prayin. I hope your recovery has gone well, without complications. I've had many surgeries thru the years and I'm not a fan of Anesthesia. My body does not react well, I'm always very sick. God Bless all of you
I enjoy being under anesthesia as well. Cause I get to get a good long siesta in during surgery or recovery as well & I take about 3-4 hrs to wake up sometimes! I generally do not sleep good at night til very early in the morning I get into a deep sleep & then wake up more refreshed for the day! I’m praying ur new port placement went fine! It lasts & works good for you!
Yeah. I cannot stand ANY sedation of any kind. Glad its different for you. I had my port placed the 23rd and it migrated to my under arm. No fun. Protocol hurts like no tomorrow through a normal lime. So glad you did so well. Here's to a quick and infection free recovery!
I just got my first port placed last week. I'm still sore from it. My PIV hurt really bad too, but it was when they were giving me the antibiotics, not the anesthesia. They didn't knock me all the way out, but they had to give me two doses to make me comfortable. And, yes, anesthesia is the best thing ever!
I had my last porth placement 10 years ago and I don't miss that feeling , it hurts a lot . Mine got infected after a year of IV treatment in hospital and I had 2 replacement but the third one didn't work and I needed it to come out . I will be forever grateful for that porth because before it my veins got so damage and I had needles in my arms, hands, neck , head and chest , once they put the porth it was a relief . Anesthesia has never been a problem for me, with my porth surgeries and 7 brain surgeries I reacted good , never felt nausea or sickness . I woke up and recovered good.
I didn’t go under for the first port placement or the first replacement. I had light sedation but what they put in my vein, the medicine felt good, like it relaxed me a lot. So I felt them pushing and pulling but next time I’m putting the numbing cream so I don’t feel any lidocaine injections where they’ll make first cuts. I wasn’t given any ice packs either and they didn’t use a peripheral vein at all. It was outpatient at a drs office. He is amazing at that drs office. He put the second on a little above where the first one was. And changed it out to a different kind and it came with information about it. I’ve been doing my own port care at the end of my old one. I taught myself since no nurse would teach me and I changed infusion centers for my ocrevus infusions. And I love the new nurse! She’s amazing and I can watch movies while I have my long infusions every 6 months. I’ll be using 22 gauge port needles to make this one last longer. I’m protective of this new port. The incision is a little longer than the first one and sort of in the bra line so it’s irritating and still a little sore as it’s still healing but closed. It’s the size of a quarter now. I watched your port videos and another’s port videos along with printed instructions. I will be accessing to flush for the first time Monday. I’m nervous to access it for the first time ever lol but it’ll be ok. Do you like to just go under instead of light sedation and being awake for the procedure? But you rather sleep through it? I like the pain relief and sedation drugs that make me feel relaxed and pain free. I live with pain so having no pain for a brief while feels really good. But I’m so happy for you, yay new port! Here’s to 10+ years! 🎉and to mine too.
I enjoy going under. Years ago I hated waking up from anesthesia but the last couple procedures I’ve had it was easy waking up. I’m glad this is over for you and I pray this port works well for many years to come
I hope you are healing up well. I wish you much success, easy accesses and blood draw for many many years to come. I have had my port for around 7 years now I think. Just starting to discuss with my doctor on getting a new one. Around six months ago it had a nasty episode of possibility being infected or something, we really don’t know what happened but it has never been the same since. Got to admit I am very nervous about getting a new one, but watching you do this like a champ brings me so much relief. Sending much love to you, Peter and your beautiful family.❤
Hi Mary I'm so glad that you have a new port. My shoulder was replaced in December 2022. I understand how you felt with the propofol because I felt the same way. I had another surgery in February 2023. I told the anesthesiologist about my December experience. I believe that he mixed saline with the propfol. It really helped. I hope that you don't need any additional surgeries, but if you do, please make sure that you convey what happened. I thought that my arm was going to burn after the December surgery. Hope that you heal quickly and this port gives you many good years.😮
You guys are such a team. Mary so expertly managing an anaesthetic. You know I reckon the clubbing in your fingers has improved !! Seriously . I work with kids with CF Australia and they just getting tricafta x so excited xxx
So glad all went well. Yes, I do not mind anesthesia, if you are nervous they always give me something to calm me down, then I am fine. You and Peter are amazing people. God bless.
I personally don't enjoy going under anesthesia, as the burning sensation from the medication goes all the way up my arm and so for my recent surgery I asked to be given a TON of pre meds..... I'm so thankful that my anesthesiologist was so amazing and helped my anxiety. ❤
@@midnight_x_edits They do! It just never works...not sure why, but I think it has to do with the kind of medicine I take as well, since they need to give me more than average due to the medication.
Mary, having the privilege of seeing you recovery from anesthesia has greatly reduced my anxiety about surgery. We usually see people who have terrible reactions, but you seem much more at peace. Congratulations on your new placement!
I've had anesthesia several times. Sometimes it feels fine and sometimes I feel like I am being totally squeezed or staticy. Weird description! I like it when my nurse holds my hand because if I feel like I am floating or being squeezed I would have something to hold onto. It helps with the scared panic!
Awesome mary cheers to new port and thank you Jesus. When I got my first port when I was really little which I had for like 12-13 years the port tubing line ran up my neck and I hated it growing up
Im glad this is over and the port has been replaced and i see the operation went well . and you guys are ok for the most part .. And the boys and animals are glad to see you as well home from the Hospital .. Despite that recovery is going to be slow ease into the activity Gradually .. I know your speech is a little bit slurred but not to worry it will come back once everything wears off. I cant beleve its AUGUST 24th 2023 and for many who dont know . TODAY WE START THE OPENING OF YEAR TEN OF THE FREYLIFE SERIES how crazy is that OMG!! Where did it go time really flew by. GOING ON 10 years💥💥🎂❤💋🌋🌋
IV Pain Explained from a nurse who has a chronic illness and has to go under way too often 😢: Prayers and Good Juju that your new port requires NO more peripheral IVs BUT if ever needing to get one again consider asking anesthesia to push lidocaine prior to the "sleep" meds. Propofol is amazing, but for the split second before you go out it's the worst pain when pushed IF you don't get numbed first. I learned that lesson myself. Again. Prayers for continued good health and quick healing. Also, I have purchased your clothing. They are my "hospital clothes" and always get great comments. Which allows me to spread your story. Which I love.
I actually like the feeling of Propofol, but it stings like crazy in a peripheral IV!! Thank goodness for ports, because Propofol is very painful without one.
I have my current port in the same place, the tube is visible over the collar bone. This port has been in and still working perfectly well after 18 yrs , I thought it was 17 but no it was put in (march 2005). Been so lucky my first port only lasted 6yrs but was used so often for i IV antibiotics the skin over the port went black and the port popped out through skin when needle was being changed during a course of antibiotics. My poor nurse literally went white when that happened, it was being done at home and so she ended up driving me back to the hospital with her, where I stayed a few days to have the port removed and a central line placed temporarily to complete the iv antibiotics until getting the new port placed a couple weeks later. A port-a-cath is such a godsend when you need it access regularly and veins have had enough. So much less pain then trying to get peripheral IV / pic, longlines etc
Your new port is in a similar place to mine! When I was supposed to get my port in they couldn't do it because my veins were so collapsed from dehydration. Instead they nicked my lung and I got a collapsed lung out of it. I ended up needing an ambulance medic to give me needle decompression and was taken to the ER. I needed a tube in my side to reinflate it. Several days in hospital.
I’m glad your port placement went so well - I just had a capsule endoscopy with the literal worst peripheral IV ever - I was awake and aware for the entire procedure (they all were super nice and reassuring and literally, they were pushing as much midazolam (Versed) and fentanyl in as was safe, and talked me through it) - that IV was half in/half infusing into my subcutaneous arm flesh. You know when the meds kicked in? When they were taking me back to my hospital room afterwards. And then I was snorked for the next day and a half, forgot all about my chronic pain, and slept (the nurses were concerned enough, that they held back the meds that would make me any drowsier, but I don’t know that anyone really figured out that I was just getting that great conscious sedation, enough to knock out an elephant, as it metabolized two days later. In answer to your question, I also find anesthesia to be not scary, but more safe-feeling. I’m glad you went over good port-a-cath placement, as it looks like I’m getting one. ❤ Sasha
also Peter is right, it is teamwork. I had a very good friend from high school come visit, and the second day she said "That's a very good nurse you have there." I teared up and said "Yes thank you for noticing.". He's the biggest blessing in my life, and in the life of my daughters (who are all grown up) and now in the life of our grandson. My grandson who is 5, was offered to pick out "one toy" and instead he said he wanted to buy grandpa a gift. He bought a Tasmanian devil as "that is grandpa's favorite." (I know off topic, but Chronic Illness, meds, doctor's appointments, tests, it's wonderful to have a partner to be there even just waiting). SO happy this part went well Mary.
Man seeing the cord in your neck gave me ptsd flashback to when I could feel the cord in my neck. Makes me feel weird evening thinking about the sensation of having a port in my chest. Worse when I have dreams about having a port and feeling the pressure in my chest.
I kind of liked the clip of future Peter and mary watching back this episode On released on AUGUST 24th marking the beginning of their 10th SEASON of the freylife!! From their bedroom..❤👍👍 we got this👍👍

I hate the feeling of going under, I get so much anxiety before. I find it very difficult to get to sleep and to stay a sleep in every day life, so the fact that this drug does it pretty much instantly freaks me out so much, as I go under I get scared that I'm actually dying. Fun times.

Good luck with your new port ‘Mary’ hope this one works perfectly for you …both 💜💚🧡
So glad you’re doing well, Mary!! You ain’t got no port in your pit!! LOL.. you’re so adorable😊😁
Gorgeous Mary and Handsome Peter thanks for shareing all you do hope all turns out well for you and your cutie pies much love!
I don't like being put under. I don't like the feeling when I wake up. Then for some reason I'm in a fog for weeks. And each time is worse than the last. 😢 I'm hoping your port is a rock star!
I’m so glad she felt so good afterwards??
I personally love going under anesthesia, it’s always the best nap ever!😂
Mary you are incredible!! When I got my port put in the area they put you in to recover they rush me. As soon I woke up had something to drink n out the door I went
A blessing to see how well you did waking from surgery, such a difference since Trikafta.
I figured since u'all hadn't posted, you we're havin surgery, so I've been prayin. I hope your recovery has gone well, without complications.
I've had many surgeries thru the years and I'm not a fan of Anesthesia. My body does not react well, I'm always very sick.
God Bless all of you
Praying for You both hope everything goes well and this port works great
So glad to hear that you have gotten a new port and your back at home. Will keep you in prayers for this one to work for you for many years to come.
So glad it went well for you! ❤I’m on surgery #24 I have Needle PTSD but I like the feeling of dropping off into being out.
Glad all turned out well for you Mary. ❤
God bless you Mary. Continued healing.🥰🙏
Hope that you heal quickly and this port gives you many good years.😮
Mary you did a great job you are a trooper and I will keep on praying for you 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 God bless you guys.
Prayers 🙏for a speedy recovery
I enjoy it 😂 I always cry waking up, but falling asleep is great!
You guys are such a team. Mary so expertly managing an anaesthetic. You know I reckon the clubbing in your fingers has improved !! Seriously . I work with kids with CF Australia and they just getting tricafta x so excited xxx
I hope this port works much better than the last one and is in a better placement. Take care and heal up soon. 😃😃👋👋💖💖
They should give you lidocaine to help with the burning they always do when i get procedures
I'm with you, Mary, anesthesia, anytime! I'm ready.
A great Dr. can make all the difference. Hope your healing is doing well 🙏❤️
Mary, you are so precious!❤️
I love the feeling of the sleepy meds lol I wish they would give it to me while I wait to go into surgery.
I have always ben awake during my port placements and removals. Went home right away! Hope you do well.
Love the anesthesia but my answer is NO because there is always unbearable pain when I wake up. So proud of you ,Mary!!💜
I recently had my 3rd as well. Good luck to
You ❤
I've had anesthesia several times.
When I got my first port when I was really little which I had for like 12-13 years the port tubing line ran up my neck and I hated it growing up
I'm glad everything went well no more headaches about that port God bless.
It's been a while! Wishing you all the very best.
Had my third port placement three weeks ago . I hope your port is working well ❤
Im glad this is over and the port has been replaced and i see the operation went well . and you guys are ok for the most part ..
And the boys and animals are glad to see you as well home from the
Hospital .. Despite that recovery is going to be slow ease into the activity
Gradually ..
GOING ON 10 years💥💥🎂❤💋🌋🌋
Cat purring is there way of healing! He prob knows something is wrong! What a sweet baby 😊
I’m very Thankful all went super well 🙏 you will be back on your feet in no time. Thank you for the update
Harry says heat packs are MY friend too Meowm!!
So pleased it went well, I’m not a fan of Anaesthetics but I quite like the pain meds after! Praying for a good and quick recovery xxxx
I actually like the feeling of Propofol, but it stings like crazy in a peripheral IV!! Thank goodness for ports, because Propofol is very painful without one.
Great job, Mary!
I have my current port in the same place, the tube is visible over the collar bone. This port has been in and still working perfectly well after 18 yrs , I thought it was 17 but no it was put in (march 2005). Been so lucky my first port only lasted 6yrs but was used so often for i
IV antibiotics the skin over the port went black and the port popped out through skin when needle was being changed during a course of antibiotics.

also Peter is right, it is teamwork.
❤Sending loving healing thoughts and prayers ❤ Had a port for chemo so know the drill😁 Take care - we love ya♥️
How are you doing now?
I love the feeling of going under anesthesia too!!!!
Anesthesia lover!! And love you wake up without coughing fits now!!
I kind of liked the clip of future Peter and mary watching back this episode
On released on AUGUST 24th marking the beginning of their 10th SEASON of the freylife!! From their bedroom..❤👍👍 we got this👍👍
I am very glad that you are doing awesome🙏🌻
I'm glad your surgery went well for you. You do have a wonderful and very caring hubby and he'd do anything for you. When did you take on another baby? Boy / Girl? How old? I've not been able to keep up on my TH-cam videos as I didn't have Internet. I've missed you guys alot. God bless you and your family. ❤❤
I hate the feeling of going under, I get so much anxiety before. I find it very difficult to get to sleep and to stay a sleep in every day life, so the fact that this drug does it pretty much instantly freaks me out so much, as I go under I get scared that I'm actually dying.
Fun times.
