    First review that mentions the USB C watts on this model, this is why I follow this channel.
    Such a shame they didn't fix this since the M27Q though, they could make these displays great for laptop and PC users but they don't

    Bought this one last week, to replace a decade old Asus PB279Q, and I have been extremely happy with it, considering buying a second one. Did have to spend a bit of time fine-tunning to my liking. but was able to achieve something I like.
    For HDR testing, I used the Windows HDR calibration software from Windows Store, it makes you realize that the actual range of luminosity you can achieve isn't that large compared to true HDR monitors but still felt it was an improvement over my PB279Q. Locally in France there's no competition at that price point for this quality, you would have to spend minimum twice as much (500euros) to start getting something slightly better (actual local dimming zone and not edge dimming, better luminosity ...)
    The software "OSD sidekick" is probably the lowest quality part of this product, had to disconnect my 2nd monitor for it to work.
    edit: I bought a second one.

    My thoughts on this panel (in summary, I love it).
    Be prepared for some frustrating and time consuming colour corrections though. The out the box settings weren't great, the picture was way too green (even in SRGB mode), but I was finally able to get the colours to get close to my Macbook Pro display (which I think is a great reference point for calibration) that was good for all use cases. Red was reduced to 95% and Green to 86%. A great feature is the 6 colour adjustment, which allows you to fine tune both saturation and hue for the six colour channels, so 12 in all. These will come down to personal preference though.
    A minor issue is white text on a black screen isn't as white and crisp as it is on higher end displays like my Dell U3219Q , the whites aren't quite bright enough, and nothing I tried could fix that. It's the compromise that has to be made at this kind of price point. The VRR works well with my Nvidia 30 series GPU, no complaints there, though apparently it doesn't work below 48Hz.
    The maximum brightness isn't great, it's quite a bit lower than its bigger brother, the M32U (which I had before). You need to increase it by 20% or so to match that of the M32U. but it looks like it should suffice in most conditions.
    A more concerning issue is that the contrast adjustment is pretty much useless. If you increase it past 55 you start to notice colour cast, and above 65% it looks really bad. This took me a long time to realise when calibrating. So I leave it fixed at 50% and just use the RGB adjustments and set brightness to about 75%. This is one of the reasons I can't achieve the desired contrast I alluded to above.
    I don't tend to touch the other settings, though I've turned Overdrive off. I noticed in MS Flight Sim there was massive ghosting on the clouds. It mostly disappears when I set it to Picture Quality, but I don't play superfast games so I just switched it off completely. I haven't bothered with HDR, local dimming, or dynamic contrast ratio, I haven't needed to. Though I have decreased Black Equaliser a touch from 10 to 9.
    Once you get past the calibration, you can start to enjoy the monitor, the picture is super sharp, crisp and vibrant whilst remaining natural looking.

      I want to buy a 4K 144hz monitor but I'm not sure. my focus is Warzone and PUBG (competitive). I saw in other reviews that the nits of this monitor are really low compared to others like the Asus 1440p/240hz and others...
      Would you recommend this M28U monitor for this utility? fps games? I plan to upgrade to RTX 4090 soon.
      Or would you recommend another 4K/144hz?

    • @georgeandreou695
      @georgeandreou695 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@victorbals7526 I personally have no regrets, I'm happy with the brightness (I don't even set it to max). I would definitely recommend 4k over 1440p, especially if you're getting a decent GPU. Only concern would be ghosting if you play fast games. I don't know what other monitors to recommend. Take a look at Hardware Unboxed's recent monitor reviews, they compare different monitors, which I obviously can't do.

      Hey! So we buy all of the products we test ourselves and there are just so many monitors out there, we can't possibly test them all. We have metrics we use internally to track the popularity of products to make sure we're testing the models the most people are interested in. However, we also have a Suggestion Tool where our users can suggest and vote for monitors they would like us to test. There are three Eizo monitors on that tool currently, so if you'd like us to test them, make sure to add your vote!

      I've used both and the only difference is the brightness. The M32U gets brighter, but if I set the M28U to 95% brightness that's enough bright for me.
      I think 4k looks good on 28". What works for you will depend on the viewing distance. The 32" looked awesome but at the distance I was viewing it was too big. I guess a 30" would be perfect.

    What’s behind and beyond a screen should be a big if. And I'd like to chime in my experience.
    I got an M28U. A nasty bad one. The screen flickered from time to time. The worst scenario is it blacked out a second.; can’t say when or how often, like after how many minutes.
    Well. If you think a faulty monitor is bad enough, you’re in for a bigger trouble.That is Gigabyte’s service and attitude. Originally I wanted a replacement. They wouldn’t let you, unless they test it and make sure it’s not my wrongdoing. That’d leave me without a monitor. So I decided to return it and get refund.
    But the trouble did not end here. Gigabyte would not confirm refund before they check and test to their heart’s content. And they said it’d take a month.

    • @RTINGSdotcom

      That isn’t something we ran into. But it may be worth trying a different cable to see if the issue persists!

    • @TeerapatKKU
      @TeerapatKKU ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m having issues too. Mine randomly goes black while the pc is inactive (no mouse or keyboard input). Though it doesn’t happen when I’m gaming so that’s a relief but still, it’s quite annoying and I came here to find a solution. First, I thought it was about the cable so I bought a VESA certified DisplayPort 1.4 cable (I use DP port) and the issue still persists. Tried everything from updating windows and monitor firmware to disabling auto screen turn-off timer and nothing worked.
      But folks on Reddit said that it’s with the DSC that came with DisplayPort 1.4 technology and actually changing the color setting from RGB to YCbCr 4:2:2 actually solves the problem (which it did for me too) because it lowers the bandwidth required for going 4k 144Hz at 8bit color to a perfect amount so that DisplayPort 1.4 can easily do, bypassing the DSC entirely. One problem though, YCbCr 4:2:2 offers a worse color experience compared to RGB. I REALLY want to just switch to that and forget about all of this but come on, I paid my hard-earned money on this thing and I’m using my every penny I spent on it.
      So if anyone’s lucky enough to find this comment then best of luck to you. I will be doing further investigations with the store I bought this from and post an update if anything comes up. Maybe it’s my graphics card and not the display but I HIGHLY doubt that…

Hdmi 2.0 has less bandwith than 2.0, so you won’t take advantage of the 4k 144hz.

      Without testing it ourselves, it's tough to say for sure whether or not it makes a noticeable difference with regards to input lag. Generally speaking though, adding anything to the chain will likely add some increased latency though in most cases it's a negligible (and probably imperceptible) amount. So, no need to worry much (if at all) about it!

Does this play a big part for the HDR aspect? Also the M28U is $500 compared to the G7 being $690. So I am also looking at that, if the 24gbps doesn't play a big part.

I’m either looking to get the Samsung G70B or M28U for my Xbox series X and for extra monitor for my MacBook, I’ve gone thru so many reviews and it’s inconsistent in the overshooting reviews as to which actually performs better throughout and I might just go with G70B cause i guess it has Wi-Fi with remote and apparently better HDR then the M28U.. performance wise I still don’t know which is actually better overall for gaming/movies/editing on Mac etc. honestly just know the name Samsung but the reviews between these two have me very undecided. It depends on the MacBook Pro you have! The new MBP with the M1 pro/max chips can get 4k at 144Hz over USB-C since they can do 8-bit and use DSC. The older intel MacBook's force 10-bit and don't work with DSC.
      So on an older MacBook you'll probably be limited to 60Hz.

    Im curious why @RTINGS recommends the m28u/m32u as the top picks for the ps5 despite the usb 2.1 maxing out at 24 GBps, while competitors max out at 40 GBps. Im not great when it comes to specs and technical stuff but what am I missing?

    • @RTINGSdotcom
      @RTINGSdotcom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hi Christopher,
      Even if they don't support the full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, it makes little difference with the PS5. The only difference is that the PS5 will output chroma 4:2:0 instead of its max capability of 4:2:2 with 4k 120Hz signals, so it slightly affects the text clarity, but it isn't a significant difference, and this doesn't affect the gaming performance. So, you're still getting 4k 120Hz from the PS5 with the M28U/M32U. Hopefully this makes things more clear 🙂
