"Wicked" was my sister's favorite musical, and she was a big fan of Kristin Chenoweth. My sister died of breast cancer in 2009 at the age of 46. Her daughter sang this song at her funeral. I still cry every time I hear it.
No, I'm sorry, I wasn't strong enough... This is the BEST performance I have ever seen on youtube. The fact that it is from one of my favourite actresses only adds to it. What a beautiful and talented lady. Wow...
Received this today from out of the 'blue.' It is as beautiful to hear today, as it was the first time I heard it. I defy anyone to not have major tears by the end of this song.....Peace.
I love Kristen Chenoweth and decided to watch this after watching an old episode of "West Wing". I was reading about actor John Spencer who played Leo McGarry,White House Chief of Staff, for the first six seasons of the show, and died suddenly of a heart attack during the sixth season.Kristen sang this at his funeral and I wanted to listen one more time with that in mind.
Also, John Spencer had jokingly said to Kristin that if he were to die that he wanted her to sing that at his memorial service. (And John Spencer died during the filming of the show’s 7th season, not 6th :) )
This might actually be the best song from Wicked. Not as flashy as Defying Gravity or as funny as Popular. Still in the long run this song is the one that has left an impression on me for good.
We sang this in 2007 South Dakota State Choir........me and the kids from our school had the director dedicate this song to our director because she had cancer and couldnt come to it.......i teared up while singing it...
I lost a friend of 28 years this past September. Last night, I went to hear his daughter sing in her high school chorus at a dinner/concert/fund raiser. They opened with an arrangement of this great song. Having never hear it, it came at me from out of no where. I think this is going to be sung at graduations for many years to come. But last night, it really touched me pretty intensely. Thanks for the post.
This song brings me to tears, my best friend is going to a different school next year, we sang this song on the last day of school. im gonna miss her so much and i cried on the bus ride home...
I have missed so much great music over the years. I didn't watch television for almost ten years.Circumstances sometimes just didn't allow for such a luxury. I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to catch up on such a great group of talented musicians. That this forum has allowed these performances to be preserved and shared with us here is just wonderful! Thank you, Kathleen
I miss Kristin and Idina sooo much!! I always cry when I watch this video (Tearing up) I wish Idina was in the crowd and got up and sang with her. (TEARS, Real tears)
Every time that I hear this song, I think of my best friends, and the different paths we've traveled on in the last few years, and it makes me cry. Because no matter happens after this point, they were my best friends for seven years of my life, and nothing can ever change that. And in that way, I feel like I can relate to these characters--and this song--in an indescribable, timeless way.
Just beautiful. I just "discovered" Kristen Chenowith in the last year. Loved her in "Pushing Daises". Too bad it was cancelled. Watch her in the video with Idina Menzel singing this song in rehearsal. Very touching.
My choir sang this last year for our Pops Concert and when we watched the video of the concert you can see over half our choir crying. Even though I don't particularly like the musical, this song is without a doubt my favorite and I can't believe how wonderful it is and how even though we sang it everyday in rehearsal, it still makes me cry. Amazing song.
That last note where she goes up is BEAUTIFUL........even better than the way it's sung during the show. If Idina had been with her on stage during this concert, it would have been AMAZING!!! Kristin or Idina on thier own is amazing, but together they are MIND-BLOWING!!!! The 2 best female musical theater vocalists of the 21st Century.
Sweet girl your friend will never be gone. She'll live on through you. You don't need 70 likes. You already have what you need. A friend that inspired you! Lots of love and prayers for you and your friend Ally.
This song makes me cry for two reasons. One, my best friend and I go to different schools and I miss her terribly. Now, next year I am transfering to go to her school (it is much closer), but my new friends are sad that I will have to leave them. This song how I felt moving about away from my old friends and now my new ones. Maya, thank you for always being my older sister. Jenny, and everyone else, I'm sorry we'll be seperated after we all became a family. I've been changed for good by you.
gezz, i love/admire her. No words can describe how talented she is and how nice she is. I look up to her! im sure this song has a personal meaning to her, but i will always think about her singing very emotionally on her last night on stage performing wicked. Her and idina shared an inseperable bond while performing this show.
i love this song. it holds a special place in my heart. when i hear it i remember my mate that changed me in so many ways and how i changed her. we both changed for good. And like G and E, we dnt see each other anymore
Solo! Totally yours this time. I’m so struck by this...gentle, caring and heartfelt. The others are but this is sounds so much from your heart. Thank you.
Thank you SO much for posting this! It helped bridge the distance between me and friends I had lost--or felt I had lost--when I was exiled from my spiritual community. Sending this song to them helped me release the past, forgiving myself and others.
A teacher at my school played/sang this song for the principal that unfortunately left a great school. But she was going on to something better. It was a most perfect song to sing for her.
There are 81 dislikes at the time of the post. It goes to show you there are some people who don't like anything and can't be moved by the beauty of the words and the performance.
All I can say is WWWooOWWW I feel so amaizingly happy everytime I hear her singing. I wish Wicked would ever come to Mexico with the original cast and songs in the original language... T--T
Some of the comments below are so touching... One of the most amazing things about this song is what it can mean to people... how someone, if it's the right someone, can change us For Good.
We sang this song for Graduation after visiting Chicago in march of 2008 and going to this play wasnt the same actresses though... was very emotional... the seniors sang her solo in the beginning so it has special meaning to me
this is the reason i started singing, she inspired me so much. she's my role model, i wish she knew how important she was to me, i hope to meet her one day! :)
I think it's cool that the very first verse of this song is exactly what the composer's daughter answered to the question, "what would you say to your best friend was leaving forever?" that moved me quite a bit. wicked is incredible

She always makes it seem so effortless. There are just NO words to describe her voice. "Beautiful" doesn't do it justice.
This song has made everyone i know cry....its so powerful. Who hasn't had a friend who they felt like this with.....
I have played Glinda for a very very long time I’n wicked at my house and I’m leaving it on 28 of October
-sniffles- That voice can bring me to tears or make me laugh till my sides hurt. You're something special, Kristin!
No, I'm sorry, I wasn't strong enough...

its crazy how much her voice has matured since her Wicked days... and that was only 5 years ago... she's awesome!
I sang this song yesterday to one of my best friend. Everyone was crying because its her last day working with us .
as a few said, she has a squeaky, young voice, but BOY CAN SHE SING!!!!!! she has one major range. I LOVE KRISTEN!
"You'll be with me, like a handprint in my Heart"
i just love that line...
Kristin rocks. She sings like an angel, and she's undoubtedly gorgeous!
I almost cried. She is freakin fantastic. She has such a wide range. She can go from soprano to tenor-ish sound, and she does it flawlessly.
how could someone so superbly talented be so underrated?
i
A tony awardee being underated? I dont think so
This might actually be the best song from Wicked. Not as flashy as Defying Gravity or as funny as Popular. Still in the long run this song is the one that has left an impression on me for good.
I love this song. When this girl n her brother sang it after our school musical was over i couldn't help but cry!
I will always love this song.

It is amazing how different her singing voice is to her speaking voice. A true talent and beauty,
We sang this song for our 5th grade continuation a year ago, I cried, because I loved that school...I was there from the first opening year, and on.

The words to this beautiful song were read at a celebration of life I attended last week. Such important, true words.

Beautiful reading of that song, You don't think of it as a solo but she made it work, from beginning to end.
