A long time ago I bought a cable tensioner tool for setting brake and derailleur cable tension. I hardly ever use it for that purpose. But, I do use almost every time I use zip ties to make sure they are as tight as possible.
I learned how to build wheels from these two guys four years ago. Nineteen so far, four for my mates bikes. If you're into building your own bikes, building wheels means fully custom and often rare or unique.
And then wondering what explanations/solutions they'll give for your problem if they don't have one. I would love to have this tool, but $450 usd is a lot to my quiet my ocd. Admittedly, I used a file to get my calipers to quit walking. My brakes have worked much better and are quiet since I removed the paint from the mounting surface. But the tool would be the best thing to use.
Praxis did what SRAM should have done. The extractor caps are standard across their range and install with a cassette tool. Pin spanners are good but a tool everyone already has is better.
@@gmbntech bottom bracket if memory serves but likely a late 80's or early 90's bike (road or mtb). Had a suntour freewheel tool as well - likely for a bmx bike from the 80's
@ Sorry I am not familiar with that particular tool Owen, I have the over-torque BB external cup tool, when i change the bearings fixed in the cups I use a 30mm bearing puller. I have the tools for Power torque and Ultra Torque bearing removal but they are a bit more run of the mill.
All this talk about crank extractors, why doesn't Park Tool make a tool kit with the half dozen or so threads so any bike mechanic can remove those cranks?
I built myself a truing stand from steel where you can center the wheel inside the truing stand while you are truing it, simply by measuring. You don't have to remove it, the truing stand is made from 30 kg of steel, so it's extremely stiff and precise.
What's the most niche tool you've ever bought?
Always a joy when Calvin & Owen are showing off tools. 🙂
Why thank you!
Cheers
Owen
after riding for 35 years and owning several bikes, I have a toolbox full of tools that I no longer remember what bike they were for.
But one day you'll need again 🤘
@@gmbntech that's the exact reason I haven't gotten rid of any of them. 35 years later and still waiting 🤣

Is it the BT-2 tool by any chance?
I could watch and listen to these guys talking about tools all day 😂
I saw that old schwinn kickstand tool used for sale second hand, I did not know that those kick stands could be serviced before that!

It's such a great tutorial isn't it!
@gmbntech ,
Best one I found.
Schwalbe Tire Levers are the tool which improved my life quality. Clip for mounting new tires is like having a third hand!
Me: Instantly wonders which of my local bike shops owns a DT-5.2.

I love my TNS-4!
It's a very useful tool!
Thanks for the vid
More tools I never knew I needed 🙄

The TNS-4 is a brilliant tool but to be honest you can't beat the PP-1.2 for a variety of tasks. I once removed some rusty headset bearings with mine.
Park CNW-2, not often needed but my god it's useful when you do.
I still have one of those pin spanners - been a long time since it’s come out to be used
What did you originally buy it for?

I've lost a SRAM self extractor, used two small allen keys to put the new one in, was very fiddly.
Most Niche tool I own is a Campanolo Overtorque crank Removal tool
Ooo do you have the matching and also niche Overtorque bearing removal tool too?
Cheers

As Ricky Ricardo (of I Love Lucy fame) would paraphrase “the dice are cast”, “the cast is dead”. 😂
I just bought the dishing tool.
Its a great tool!
Remember a few years back when we had conical washers on the brake mount bolts and the surfaces didn‘t have to be flush? Where did they go?
On some bikes you still get them, I had a cheap fatbike which had such washers.
The favorite tool of Calvin is Justformen...
I thought 'dice' was plural for dies..
Once had to explain to a salesman in a bike shop what a pin spanner was.... left me rather disgusted.

I decided that WAG-4 wheel dishin gauge was way to expensive, I cut on out paper cardboard, use rubber bands and ruler
Or you can do dishing inside your own bike frame
