  • I discuss the painful decision BMW made when coming up with the GPS mount location for the RS. I'm considering buying a relocation kit, so I'm checking out other TH-camr videos showcasing different kits. My friend from Houston Chuck shared a short video with me of his Hornig relocation kit. Below are different kits, check them out.

    Thanks for the vid. Looking for options myself as I am about to pull the trigger on a R1250Rs myself. How do you like yours ? I am waiting for 2 more weeks until the announcement of the release of the R1300RS and to see when shop dates are and if it will be worth the wait and upgrade.

    • @Texas2Tires

      I love my R1250RS. Doesn’t seem like the 1300 will be as big as a leap as the 1200 to 1250. The shift cam tech and the TFT were really worth the upgrade. From what the 1300GS is showing is just a slight bump in HP and torque. Also since it’SA new engine, I’d prefer to wait a year or more for the bugs to shake out. Thanks for watching and all the best with your RS decision.

    Hi just saw this video! I realize that it was done 2 years ago and I hope you are still checking on any messages here. I am starting to look at whether I should get a GPS system since my bike has the prep or place my Smart phone on with an attachment like most people do. So the question is do you have the GPS by BMW and did your bike come with the prep the attachment in the front. It looks like it did. So the question why did you not get the GPS vs using your Iphone? It looks like you are using the stock attachment for your phone, not sure. But I like to know your thinking about this and what eventually happened. I will try and look at your other videos to see what you did but I think I have seen a Smart phone on your bike used as a navigation system. So I like to know why as the GPS is marketed as capable of doing more stuff like with maps. Also, did you down load the BMW app and if so can you just used that and link it to your smart phone and use the TFT screen to see where you are going rather than purchase a GPS. I understand that the GPS is expensive, like over 700 dollars. Thanks! And you were busy this Christmas washing bikes and cars!

      My bike came with the the gps mount. However, because I don't tour I chose to remove it and go with QuadLock. If I toured a lot, I would relocate the gps mount above the TFT and buy the SAT-NAV. There are a variety of places out on the back roads where there's no cell phone reception, so the SAT-NAV becomes very important to have. I ride in about a three hour radius around my home, so i don't need it. My google maps usually work just fine, sometimes the way points get messed up and that is frustrating. However, I don't want to spend $1,000 on a Garmin system. I've also downloaded all the maps into my phone in case I lose cell phone signal. That way, I'll still have google maps available to me as long as the trip I setup is still in session. Thanks to the questions.

    Thanks for this video, very helpful. Could you please ask you friend why he kept that silver rectangle hornig bracket and on top he put another zumo adaptor instead of directly fitting original BMW cradel to the Hornig bar? Is the Hornig bar diameter not matching BMW cradel mount diameter? Or maybe there was some other reason? Thank you in advance! Ride on!

      My friend said he is pretty sure that it was required for proper spacing, but he needs to watch the video again to see exactly. What is what.

    • @Texas2Tires
      @Texas2Tires  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok he said he was recommended to use the adapter because it had a variety of settings that allowed the cradle to be mounted a little bit forward so that the windscreen didn’t touch the GPS unit when in the lowest position.

    God willing, my '22 RS is being built tomorrow in Berlin, and I already have the MotoMate in hand for the dealer to install when they pull the bike together upon arrival. The MM Mount is super simple, but, as you noted, it's a solid flat black, so will blend well with your Darth Vader vibe. I'm thinking (hoping?) the dust will settle on pricing for the BMW cradle once the vendor pipelines are full. Sorry to see RevZilla trying to gouge on a product that it also out of stock. As many (including us) are figuring out, there is no ideal solution until BMW consolidates all this onto a single screen (see RT for the basic concept, I guess), so that will have to wait until "Next Gen" RSs become a reality. In the meantime, really lovin' your series, as it's told from an owner perspective with no axes to grind. Great work and look forward to more!

      Hi Evan, thanks for checking out my channel and the kudos, I really appreciate it. Congratulations on your purchase, I hope you get your bike in time for Spring/Summer riding. What color did you get? Are you planning on changing the exhaust? I'm really happy with the Akrapovic look and sound. I don't think I'll be getting the relocation kit just yet. I just dropped quite a bit on the Akrapovic, so need to wait a bit on that purchase. For now, I'm happy with my QuadLock. I like that I can remove/attach the phone with one hand. If you remember, let me know how you like the bike after your first few rides. I'm sure you'll love it. Take care!

      Thanks for the quick reply. I use my phone too, but I got the adapter to lock the phone on the navi mount, just a cheap one with USB power, not the bmw brand one. The quadlock is probably fine, I just like the idea of having the phone landscape oriented above the TFT.

    Thanks for putting this video together. I have been looking at the Hornig mount but was concerned about vibration. How stable is it while riding? Also if it touches the screen for you and I am 6 feet and need to tilt up more will that be a problem?

    • @ChuckandBonnie123
      @ChuckandBonnie123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Phil, if you go with the Hornig brand you may be disappointed, because I have mine adjusted as high as possible (I believe). Even if you tilt it all the way up, a portion of the TFT may be blocked for you. You may want to explore the other brand mentioned in the video as an option. Regarding the stability, the Hornig is very solid. I personally love it, but I’m 5’ 7”. Hope this helps, partner.

    It appears Vortex is no longer in business. The Motomate is $132 US and the Hornig is $138 at today's exchange. I cant find a US distributor for either one. - UPDATE - Sierra BMW has the Hornig for $82 with free shipping.

    • @Texas2Tires
      @Texas2Tires  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the price updates. The Vortex from the video I watched seemed like it wasn't a big operation more like a DIY person that sold some units on the side. I could be wrong, but that's the way it sounded on Grumpy Goat's video. For Hornig and Moto Mate, you have to order from the overseas business and they'll ship it to you. Anyway, that's how my friend bought the Hornig. It was shipped from Germany. I'm thinking about getting the moto mate, but there's a self imposed "stop spending" decree on the bike. I just dropped almost $1k on a new Akrapovic slip-on for my R1250RS. Spending on the bike is an addiction that needs to be monitored....LOL. If you are interested or haven't seen it yet, I did an install video about the slip-on: th-cam.com/video/jBSlHV0P7CQ/w-d-xo.html Have a great week!

    Hi. Very nice video (both parts). I've used Moto-mate relocation bracket with wireless charger / bracket from Quadlock (plus a short Ram extension). It does the job, however if the bracket is in the optimum position for dash instruments visibility, when the screen is in the lowest position... the phone is being exposed to the wind and rain. I found that to eliminate the helmet visor fogging (even with pinlock) I need to keep the screen low to get some airflow... In summary, I'm very happy with my arrangement, but... it's still not perfect. All the best!
