      pbofan, Just a quick note, as the exhaust “breaks in” it is getting a bit deeper and louder. However, since I didn’t take the db killers out, it’s not too loud. I’m happy with it.

      @@FLYANDRIDE15 Well as we age comfort becomes much more important. I test rode an M1000RR during a BMW demo day and it was surprisingly quite comfortable once rolling. However at lights had to stand up and get my hands off the bars as all your weight immediately transfers to your wrists. I could easily manage an hour ride, but that’s about it. My friend has a Panigale V4 and an S1000XR. The V4 looks cool but it’s a toaster oven completely bakes your thighs and not very comfortable the XR on the other hand is much like your Duc good amount of hp in a more upright comfortable position. On the topic of looks the MV Agusta bikes are amazing looking literally rolling works of art. I interviewed a guy that has one at one of our recent Austin Moto Social meet ups. Hi Trevor, towards the beginning of the video I pasted akrapovic's technical data going over the improvements in performance. They are marginal. However, I can definitely feel the bike is a bit more responsive and there's a bit more grunt from the slip-on when starting and getting on it, so that's cool. Hi . . .I'm about to install the Akra onto my new 24 1250R. I downloaded the instructions of BMW's website but the only torque setting provided was for the rear support for the silencer - none of the others are mentioned - ie 4.9nm for the valve cover, 22nm for the clamp or 2.1nm for the heat shield clamp. Out of interest, were these in your printed instructions or did you download from somewhere??

    Nice job again with a mod that many RS owners seem to make. It's also interesting that the predominant reason folks make this change is the same as yours, which is the aesthetics of the chrome can. My incoming '22 (in the Imperial Blue) will differ, my dealer told me back in October, in that it will sport a "titanium" finish, which the dealer could not define or show me a sample of, but we're all assuming it will be some sort of brushed stainless look. I've got a shelf full of mods ready, but I've not pulled the trigger on the slip-on, pending the great reveal of what BMW's definition of "titanium" turns out to be. I'm most interested, too, in what you make of the sound when out on the road at the various speeds we all encounter, from around town (30-45mph) to back-roads (40-60?) to highway (65+). My fear/assumption with the Akra is that it may drone too much at higher revs, which can be a real fatigue-inducer over longer hauls. What have you found to be the case, vs. your best recollection of the chrome can at similar speeds/revs?

    • @Texas2Tires
      @Texas2Tires  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe your pipe will be a satin finish and might be fine the way it is. The Akrapovic is not too loud even at highway speeds. If you remove the db killers then it would probably be a bit too raspy and loud.

    • @bandkdad
      @bandkdad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Turns out chrome cans still rule on 2022 RSs, and that's the way mine is coming (it's on the water now), so I'm back into options. Arrow is on the short list, but so is the Akra. Just checking in to see how you're liking it these days and how you're finding overall noise levels from it at various speeds. Of all the YT vids on exhaust swaps, I've yet to find one where the author uses an actual dB meter to show differences in volume (at least standing still). Oh, well, are you still a happy camper?

    • @Texas2Tires
      @Texas2Tires  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bandkdad Yes I still like the Akra. It’s about the same weight and overall size as the chrome cannon. But looks much better and the dark color helps to camouflage its size a bit. Sorry I don’t have a db meter. As this is just a hobby for me, I try not to spend too much extra money on these vids. If I was making money on them, I’d certainly be reinvesting in the channel. Someday I hope to gain some coin from the channel even if it’s just some gas for the bike that would be cool. Unfortunately, TH-cam forces each TH-camr to gain at least 1,000 followers before they begin monetizing the channel. @@Texas2Tires Yep, '22 RS arrived in April. Many mods done as part of the dealer's prep team (sourced the parts through them). Went with Akra can (like yours), Suburban Machinery peg lowering kit, Wunderlich bar conversion kit, moved Navi Prep up above the TFT, tall seat and rear rack (factory installs). Post delivery, I picked up a used Wunderlich wind screen and the side deflector kit, and added a blade deflector to the top of the screen; super quiet cockpit (comparatively). Also added the BMW Aux Lights and their panniers. SW Motech tank bag(s), Grip Puppies. Love the "fit", the sound and the look. Best bike I've ever owned (and the easiest to ride).

      Hi Sam thank you for checking out my video. No I haven't found a cover for the back seat. Actually I wanted to remove the back top case rack. My bike came with it. Unfortunately removing that requires the purchase of the back passenger handles which cost $600. So I'm keeping the back top case rack for the time being. @@Texas2Tires that smuggler looks pretty sweet! It would be perfect for taking a lunch to work. I can’t believe they want $600 for the grab rails. I had a luggage rack like you have on my 800ST. Removing it def improved the looks and I would just reinstall it when I went on weekend trips.

      @@DDGreyduck at this point, I can't justify spending the extra cash to get rid of the top-box rack. Hi, thanks for sharing the video. I noticed that, when you started the bike up with the Akra fitted, there was a small drip drip of (presumably) water coming from behind the heat shield. Now the reason I noticed such a minor detail is that I recently fitted an Akra to my late '19 model 1250RT, and the exact same thing happened on start up. It stopped after a very short time. I wasn't overly concerned about it as its clearly just some kinda condensation effect. But i did find it irritating. I checked that the main clamp bolt was torqued correctly, which it was. Any thoughts? Best regards from the UK...

    This will be my choice as well, except I'll be de-badging the can. Would have expected more weight savings over OEM but IMO it both looks and sounds better. Still debating Akra headers - I mean, yeah it's louder but your bike can shoot flames! 🤘
    Only negative about the can is how the DB killer is removed. Gotta drill out a set of rivets and then break a spot-weld to get it out. This is because of Euro 5 requirements on bikes, anything sold by the OEM as original equipment can't have an owner-modifyiable exhaust. So the Akra can that's a dealer option is rivited, and because Akra's aftermarket can is the same model, it's rivited too. I'm suspicious of why Akra doesn't mod their aftermarket to make it easier to work on (like their earlier BMW cans) and think it's due to some sort of business agreement where BMW pays for some/all of the can development and Akra gets to sell an aftermarket version but it can't be any different from what you can get from the factory to preserve BMW and their dealers' sales.
    Also, I'm Polish, which is a neighbor to Slovenia where Akra is from. It's pronounced ah-crap-o-vitch, with the emphasis on the 2nd syllable. Not ah-crop, it's ah-crap.

      @Texas2Tires  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for checking out the video. You’re certainly right about the money. The Akrapovic exhaust isn’t cheap. However it is engineered specifically for BMW and increase’s performance slightly. I didn’t buy it for that reason. Like many others, I bought it for aesthetic reasons. To me that huge chrome exhaust just didn’t fit the overall look of the bike. You are right the bike is so well engineered that you don’t need to do anything to it to make it rideable. For other brands, especially the cruiser variety, riders have to dump thousands into their bikes to make them rideable including suspension, exhaust, cams, tune, bars, seats not to mention the accessaries they buy to make the bike unique. In the end, riders all have different tastes and customizing the bike is part of ownership. Do you have an RS or other bike? If so, you haven’t bought anything extra for your bike?

      I had to order my RS from Berlin to get one without all the option packages. It still has ABS, traction control, etc, but no 'keyless ignition' (there's still a key, but there's a button too...), the silly navigation 'cradle' on the handlebars, the 'load leveling electronic suspension (I can turn the knob a few clicks when I have a load), etc., etc. All that cruft. It is completely stock and a joy to ride. Simple and pure boxer fun. The exhaust on mine is a brushed aluminum, not the chromed 'upgrade'.

      @@paulhenderson1462 I think the brushed aluminum looks better than the chrome can. Mine was shipped to the US with all the upgrades. I didn’t order my. I just looked around the web for an RS and found one in the next state over that wasn’t moving, so I got a sweet deal on it.

      Hi Nigel, thanks for checking out the video. The Akrapovic definitely sounds better than the stock. However, I mainly bought it for the look. I didn't like that big chrome can. It just didn't fit with my black / red theme of the bike. The price is expensive, but did save a bit with Revzilla.com price matching and paid $912. These things are of course subjective. For me, any louder and it would be too loud. I'm not planning on taking the db killers out because that would just be annoying for me and my neighbors.

    Unfortunately the Akrapovic is way too big and heavy

      There is a difference. Just hard to hear with my audio. It isn’t a big difference because I left the baffles in the exhaust. I mainly bought the exhaust for aesthetic reasons. Since that video I have bought new headers and removed the catalytic converter. It sounds louder now. Thanks for watching. th-cam.com/video/YfjxGFE-9xQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cv-UhlIwmPw8NoTv Thanks for watching and commenting.

      Not much as I didn’t remove the baffles or the Cat, but it is a bit deeper wasn’t picked up on video. I’m going to get new headers and do away with the cat at some point.

      There is a difference, but it isn't huge. Now that the pipe is wearing in, it has a better sound. But again it isn't huge. If the desire was to get really loud, I'd have to remove the db killers from the exhaust and get new headers without a catalytic converter...initially straight open pipes. My neighbors would certainly be unhappy with me.
