When I said stock coil I meant it's a stock/OEM, ordered from the auto parts store. It is not the original factory coil. *Thanks for all the tips it sounds like I can try a couple more things make this coil run better. ☺️
Marka Oslo I agree. And with these RV’s they sit and run at idle a lot. A low mileage engine doesn’t matter if the “hours” that it runs idle are excessive. Especially older V8’s. Lubrication always seemed lacking and I wonder if that could cause the cam to wear more. A lot of the older V8’s never lasted as long as the ones that are out on the road nowadays...
@jquest43 I’m referring to the older stock 80’s V8’s. It’s what I learned back in the 80’s and why I never sit and idle. Cam, lifters etc are the ones that wear the most when you sit and idle and the oil is warm, thinner and not as much oil pressure. I think Ford used to say 1 hour of idle was equivalent to driving 33 miles. Newer engines especially with the synthetic oils are better lubricated. None of this applies to diesels. And it’s jmo.
@Kenneth Schultz I have an old 74 GMC Stepvan that I considered using synthetic in but have heard that Synthetic in old 70’s-80’s, engines might have issues with leaks. I’ve seen it happen once in a foreign car and hear others say synthetic is not designed for older engines but newer cars synthetic is the way to go. Class A’s RV is an 88 with a 454 so idk if he’s considered it. I usually use Royal Purple synthetic in my 02 f150.
It's normal to have to pump a peddle once or few times on a cold carbureted engine,it gets gas down the intake for the cold start and activates the choke.
Strangely enough on my 79 Dodge I never have to pump the pedal in freezing temperatures. I'm not sure why. I have a four-barrel Carter AFB 625 CFM carburetor. Same thing as an Edelbrock.
Very interesting...However you should Install the contact point too. Then Advance the timing. But in the comparison I really didn't see any advantage. I am surprised. But I also Learned something. Great video!
I'm getting ready to install an HEI system on a switch for my 79 Dodge van. Keeping the original ignition system but with the flip of a toggle switch it will be running the HEI system. It's for redundancy. If my mechanical fuel pump fails me, I've got another toggle to kick on my aftermarket electronic fuel pump. Also for redundancy. But I've never seen one of these things before. I'm going to have to look into it before I do that HEI conversion on a switch.
**Fyi. Don't forget to replace your Glow Plug on your new Chinese Heater around 6-8 months or it might blow and leave a mess inside the unit. I watched another TH-camr say it must be maintenenced regularly for this problem. Have a nice week :)
It's simple really higher volts need higher release. Check ohm law the math is there many tests on this coil on dyno. It could be a bad one but I kinda ran into the same problem.
@@markaoslo5653 I would think as a replacement for an old pin, not a required component, but I don't know for sure. My cap and rotor was just replaced so I didn't bother.
Hey man I’m looking at a 23’ class a with the Chevy 454 big block and the guy I’m looking to buy it from doesn’t have any idea the MPG so curious what yours gets and what mods you’ve done to help if any. I’m wanting to go full time on the road and looked at trucks and campers but would need to buy both and really like the look of the old class A’s but don’t know if I can stomach 7mpg, 9-11 would be wonderful if possible
What the part number on that super coil I see accel make 2 different version of that coil my application would be a small block Chevy motor and does it work for any hei distributor
I’d not mess with it, keep the original coil. Have you ever replaced the small fuel filter in the carburetor? Where the fuel line connects? For some reason I thought it was fuel injection. Being it’s a 1987?
Not worth the $ imo...if the spark woulda been hotter then the spark woulda been more blueish. I don't like them cause they don't really retain the plug wires but yet you still halfa take them off to change the wires a lot of the time. Sux to have to pull the whole coil just to remove the wires. MSD kills them hands down imo!

Look Back in your Video.... the Accel is Firing more early Vs the stocker...isnt it supposes to have the same timing?

It is the best
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for making them, I look forward to new ones being posted.
I have an MSD box that will make it work better. If you want it, I just ship it to you. Let me know. its used, but works.
I use them on all my performance sbc builds. They are awesome!

@@TheHermitHacker enough fuel leftover in the bowl to start, you had a properly functioning carb!
That coil brings back memories! Had no idea they still made those!
Boy I'll bring out the belt and really bring back some memories if you don't stop your crying
i dont know what is wrong with me but i really like seeing nathan pop his head out of the driver side window to look at the exhaust of patches!
Nothing wrong with you Josh, you just happen to be more attracted to males rather than females!

Can't understand why you don't do a van build but enjoy the channel much friend.
Thanks for sharing. We both have the same moterhome.. This is helpful
it's NOT a rape van
The timing advance module under the distributor gave me hell and cost thousands in the repair shop, until a great mechanic told me it was our problem.

Still sparking near alternator worth taking a look 😊
sorry you have to advance the timing for it to work properly i should have told you this
Ohh ok! they should have that in the instructions. well I guess I better start part 2 then ☺️

working on my 1984 Holiday Rambler now. Nice
great video
It looks cool as far as I'm concerned! :)
You should have changed the carbon bushing as well. They are a low resistant version. Your stock one is not.
Just a tip.
Hmm I suppose I could give that a shot though I doubt it would make a difference

Looks cool, 😎now I need to see if they make one for my Ford 97 F53 7.5 liter V8
it looks like the same van that was used for breaking bad lol
Gap the spark plugs wider for that coil!

If i had to guess 8-10 mpg, no mods just routine maintenance
stock is fine unless you are ready to chass your tail, check your timing may b close to timing chain time and possible check adjustment on carburetor

Made in USA!!!!!
The choke isn't fully vertical

MSD.
Also the vapor locks are horrible. I've since learned the to pour fuel in the carb until the vapor is passed the system.
Love the 454 cold start. Nice work!👍
