      That's a great point, and I've actually got them along with tail lights and an LED 3rd brake light too but didn't mention it in the video. Definitely a good upgrade to do, looks nice and has safety benefits too. Thanks for watching!

    I think I’m selling my 16 eco boost and getting into a 1st gen tundy. Your videos inspired me. Also my eco boost is now at 114k and turning into a money pit.

      Wow that's cool, the first gen will definitely feel more bare bones than the F-150 but its simplicity is pretty cool and almost nostalgic at this point with modern cars having screens on screens. Thanks for watching, and best of luck with finding a clean 1st gen!

    Man reach out to Josh at First Gen Offroad for any suspension parts , He's figured out a economy front end lift and shock setup to make them ride better than spacer lifts or 5100's on the top notch. You have your truck looking good!

    Great video!! So much better than all of these, "budget king of the hammers build for $150k" or worse, the whole overlanding thing that makes rigs cost more than your average apartment. I like that I can afford all these mods, now to get a 1st gen Tundra as a garage mate for my 2020 Tundra without the wife killing me lol😊

    If you haven't replaced them yet I highly recommend replacing out the screw mounts for the cowl. Mine were leaking into the cab badly. A cheap replacement with OEM parts to stop a very serious and annoying leak! Had to do it on mine and it hasn't leaked since! Good video and some of these upgrades mentioned here I did on my truck and it's made it so much nicer like the LED's and rear windows.

    I got the little aluminum linkages for the rear windows too. If you carefully bend the steel arm the linkages attach to you can fine tune the fit when the window is closed. When they are fully latched you want the gasket to be firmly compressed so there's no sound or water leaking in.

    • @JDMDriveway
      @JDMDriveway  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Huh I never thought about trying that, that's a good tip! Thanks for watching

    • @benjaminhamilton2338
      @benjaminhamilton2338 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JDMDriveway Hey, thanks for the video, lot of good ideas. I can't claim to have invented the concept of bending that linkage arm, it was recommended on one of the first Gen Tundra forums or facebook groups, I forget which cause it was years ago. Just take it slow and think about where your tool will go if it slips, it'd be easy to smash the window if you tried to just hulk out on that bar without thinking it through. I don't remember it taking much force at all.

  • @DragonsFireMetalWorx

    Great batch of updates n upgrades!! Thanks for the tip on the ws sprayers...I've tried 2 different sets and they're still junk...
    I built my own exhaust...got rid of the extremely restrictive wye pipe resonator setup...it may seem silly, but I used a hockey net tube frame for the bends, two tractor mufflers from Princess Auto (our version of Harbour Freight) and a buddies car lift...
    I may have to post a walk through on my 03' Tundra Limited...you got me thinking buddy...
    cheers from BC Canada

    Thank you! I just found your channel. I quickly looked through some of your videos and I'm definitely going to watch some of them before I make anymore upgrades. Today, I'm replacing my headlights, fog lights, and tail lights. I didn't see your videos before I ordered everything. I'll let you know how it goes. I made some videos for my 2001 Tundra. One of the videos is about how to fix the doors when the front and rear doors are stuck shut. It has about 17K views. I thought maybe a small handful of people might find it useful. I wasn't expecting so many people to have the same issue. I'm not trying to advertise: my channel isn't monetized. I just thought you might find it interesting. My channel is ScottyMont. Oh, and thank you for the information for the windshield sprayers. Mine are terrible! I didn't know what to do until I watched this video. Thank you for the content. -ScottyMont, U.S.A.

    I have the OEM back window arms on my 2002. They do that same thing where it pushes out when you close the lever all the way. If I remember correctly, you have to tighten a screw at precisely the right pivot point to get it to not rock back. And, if you don’t tighten it, it will slip.

    Sal, Thank you for your detailed ideas / upgrades for 1st Gen Tundra's. I recently followed your advice & upgraded to the pricey FJ Cruiser windshield sprayer nozzles.
    WHAT a Difference!! I'll be following your other upgrades as I need. I'd found a 2002 Tundra Access cab w/ 84K miles (about 2 yrs. ago). Drove 2+ hrs. from Dallas to Austin to nab this cherry. Was a TEXAS company truck & garaged for N# of years. I'm working my way thru Trans. filter, Dif., Ball Joints, etc checks that this will be my LAST truck. Thank you for your detailed analysis of these 1st Gen Toyota Tundra's !!!!!

    Just a note. BMW did testing years ago to see what color is best for gauge lighting, especially at night when you have headlights coming at you and blinding you. The results are you want AMBER lights in your main gauges. The brighter toward white will only hurt your eyes and cause eye damage over time.

    Great looking tundra and thanks for the videos. I have a 2000 and there is no illumination behind any of the heater/ac/blower speed knobs at night with the lights on (maybe bulbs are burned out?). I didn't think it would come from the factory like this but really wasn't sure. Your video shows they are in fact supposed to be lit up so I've got some investigating to do.

    • @JDMDriveway

      fyi i put in led lights about a year ago on the difference of electricity in the odometer made the whole dang thing go bad. needless to say make sure you’re careful with putting in the leds. they might look great (because they do) but might cause the odometer to short out and cause more headaches in hindsight. (i now have to subtract 140,000 miles from the odometer everytime i need to see how many miles i have 😐)

    For the headlights on my old Tundra I use Scratch X with a buffer which has them looking like new. I used to use a kit but Scratch X is faster and cheaper. Meguiar's Ultimate wax on them and they last just as long as the kit result did, and it's nothing to redo them.

    I still have my 2000 TRD 4x4 with less than a 100K. Highly Recommended but Expensive Interior Upgrade-> *Toyota Tundra TRD 2002 SEMA Show Leather Package,* Toyota offered it as part of the Ivan Stewart SE trim package in 2002 and maybe 2003. It adds significant bolstering to the front seat bottoms and backs along with two-tone perforated leather, front and back seats. Toyota stopped offering it through the dealer but I was able to order it from the Company that supplied it to Toyota. 1200$ for the package including installation. It is better quality and cheaper than the 'regular factory leather' that was 2000$ as an option when new. It has been in the truck 16 years and still looks great, my truck came with the cloth interior.

    The door latches!
    If you start to find that the door is getting harder to open, STOP! Go buy a new one before it completely fails or your going to have a heck of a time getting the door open to replace it.
    My wife has a 2001 and I have an 02. My drivers side went out last year and now the Passengers side went out the other day. Last month my wifes driver side went out. Its no fun replacing them, (Lots of blood).

    Hey my tundra has an issue with sucking in water when I go mudding is a snorkel my only option or is there a better fix the puddle only has to be like a foot and a half deep

      I'm not sure, sorry. I'd assume that our trucks could drive through more than 1 1/2 ft of water, but as long as it reaches the intake box you'll be sucking up water. So maybe a snorkel is your best option if it happens super often. Thanks for watching!

    Is the dash leds got to be soldier?

      Nope, they just pop in like any other bulb. Only the 05-06 trucks have the updated cluster with the soldered lights. Thanks for watching

    How much did your mpg’s drop by when adding them?

    • @JDMDriveway

      Not a ton, probably 1-2 mpgs all around. They were probably most affected by my new exhaust because I was giving it more gas everywhere! Haha thanks for watching
