I love my 2003 4runner. 303,000 miles on the 4.7l V8 and still going strong. I bought it used with 281,000 miles. I was very surprised at how well it ran and drove when I test drove it. I hope I get at least another 200,000 miles out of it!

@@John-hw3ds 🥲, I just got me an 02 SR5 4runner with 250k miles 1 owner, I have heard in about a week from 3 other individuals that I need to get ready to turn down 25k offers lol.
Back in the mid 90s, my team drove a fleet of Nissan pathfinders and 4Runners throughout Latin America. We drove through the jungles, on and off road accumulating 4-5,000 miles a month. These are solid vehicles built to last, but the 4Runner was an exceptional vehicle that withstood some very challenging road and driving conditions. I never drove anything else after retiring from the military.
4Runners (Hilux Surf) and Land Cruisers (all models) when you are deployed overseas. Gotta blend in with the locals. Humvee will stick out and put a giant target on your forehead.
Only bc of longevity but on style Jeep Cherokee could beat it out. Toyota are so bland on style inside and out. Scott must b getting kick backs from Toyota bc he is so promoting them.
@Daniel Large I agree, Toyota’s aren’t very flashy but they are all quite classic looking. Also, I have an 03’ Tundra 214K miles, 05’ corolla 110k miles and a 14’ sequoia 124k miles and I’ll be willing to bet that I have spent less on repairs for all 3 combined than any owner of a Jeep with 150k miles.
bruh that’s not even the end of it, my buddy’s has almost 600,000 and he said just make sure you always change the oil and timing belt and it’ll last like wth
I've had 5 4Runners over 20 years. ALL are still going strong. The 2003 does have some paint issues but still runs great with 233k miles. The 2005 has no issues at all with 214k miles. I'll drive past the junk yard full of JEEPs to the MAACO shop.
I’m looking HARD at buying a 4Runner. I’ve watched 50 videos on the 4Runner over the last week. I’m not finding much to dissuade me and then Scotty goes and makes this gem of a video......... I’m getting in line!
Buy new if you can and if you cannot then just wait the prices have to come down sooner or later but if you buy now and you buy used you will overpay unless of course you are okay with that. We just purchased a 2021 trd off road premium cause the used prices are insane. We traded in two vehicles as well. Crazy times
I couldn't be happier with mine. It runs amazing. My first new vehicle ever and it is just such a nice truck to drive. You can not go wrong with it. Heck, he's right. Look for one from 2016 and save some cash on it. Or even the mid to late 2000's, they were amazing. I would hold off until 2022 as the car market bubble is bursting now.
You Could buy two jeeps with the price of Toyotas. No mention of the complaints of the v6 junk from the 3. Slow to the 3rd gen which has a history of failing. Scotty is not telling the full story
@@amcmac7237 And you could easily put another 250k on it. My roommate has a Tacoma with over half a million miles, original engine and transmission. No one does it better than Toyota.

Nice👍 i have a 01 SR5 4wd. Got it with 93k about 4yrs ago..im at 170k with many road trips and plenty of 4wheelin with it. Its a definite winner in my opinion. Ive had 3 Cherokees and a Grand ...put plenty of miles and plenty of trail use...they were nice but 🎶" I Love What You Do For Me Toyota"🎶
I'm considering that very same year and model that has 212K, one owner, garage kept, no beach time, outstanding maintenance through Toyota dealership, and overall immaculate condition. Mom & Pop used dealer asking $9950. It's quite, quite tempting to cut a cheque for that Runner.
My first car was a used 1995 sr5. I've missed it for the last 12 years I drove a car (a 2007 Nissan Sentra which I looooved but the one problem it had in the 12 years we owned it... The transmission finally blew and I had to say goodbye lol). I'm so ready to buy a 4runner again though. I miss it lol my 95 was still getting around with it's new owners last I saw it and it's over 20 years old lol
I love my 2009 Crown Victoria too, my dad bought her from a police auction with 150,000 miles for my 17th birthday:) She now has over 600,000 miles and drives great with the same original equipment, never blew a transmission or had to replace anything besides the oil. I take her for long road trips and replaced the police sport suspension with the more comfortable Mercury grand Marquis suspension and made her look like a civilian car. 😊
You don't know reliability yet lol it's too new . I've got a 97 2nd owner 325 k super reliable. And original owner of a 99 225k best damn vehicle ever. Never stranded, stuck let down in 22yrs. Original drive lines in both. My 99 has out lasted 2ex wives,2fantastic dogs , and 4kids and me too probably lol. And both look great and run better. Better give the yota a name they're more reliable than a family member or a good dog lol.
I still have my 2005 4Runner limited with the V8. The V8 pulls my travel trailer no problem. My 4Runner has just 84,000 miles and I plan to keep it until it dies. It may outlast me.....
I have driven both models. A 99 4-runner and a 00 Grand Cherokee. By far the 4-runner was more reliable and comfortable to drive. The Cherokee broke down all the time but it did look cooler I will admit. Toyota makes a better quality product and it’s not even close.
"It's a Jeep thing you wouldn't understand" Oh but I do that's why I drive a Toyota 4Runner lol . Learned as a former shop tech if you work on 4Runners you change oil and brake pads. If you work on Jeeps you change everything.
I love my 2003 4Runner and really miss my 97 4Runner which was stolen out of my drive way. I've taken both of them on trips and back roads that most people would shy away from for fear of getting stuck. Also, pulled my fair share of Chevy and Ford 4x4s out of the mud. The most fun I have is in 4-wheel Low.
Um no. That would be the Landcruiser but make no mistake the Forerunner and Taco would be right there too. Incredibly tough and reliable! Both survivors!!! In any situation.
My 92 Jeep Cherokee xj has 407k and I drive it every day. Scotty should compare the xj and 4runners of corresponding years. Both are badass in my book.
Actually bought a 2000 LX470 today. 1 owner. I checked by a Toyota Specialty Shop for advice and oddly they were selling one. They just did a lot of maintenance on it . $4,000 worth.
bought my 2005 11k in Texas years ago (no rust one owner) 4x4 v-8 full time AWD with locking center diff .....went to our cabin in mountains in west texas (6300 feet) twice a year.... nasty off road to get to it for over 7 years no problems whatsoever rides smooth on pavement still no rattles whatsoever. It had 99k miles on it when I bought it. Starter and set of new/used (9k miles Beilstein original shocks) off craigslist was the only parts changed. Had a 1986 4x4 V6 before that .... same story ....Zero problems. It was hard for me to find the 2005 4x4 back then ...now days forget it. The 1986 I sold to a neighbor for same price I paid and it went to Guatemala. These are bullet proof absolutely built to last.
@@oliverneal7686 You got a steal. I have the same truck, limited V-8 '05.. paid about 17k eight yrs ago w/130K on it. Love it and at 175k now I've maybe put 3,500 into it.. front hub, bearing, timing belt, brakes, tires & oil changes.
You can't argue how much easier it is to fix/repair/upgrade 4runners than it is for a jeep grand cherokee. I currently have a gx470, I owned a 2000 wj that stayed having some unexplained issues that weren't easy to trouble shoot, but I loved it. Great video Scotty glad to see you staying with it sir. At my most recent oil change at Toyota, I saw a TRD Pro with a dealer markup/ “price adjustment” sticker on the windshield- $61,559 😂😂😂 Nicely done Sith!!!!
Love my 02 4runner. It’s a very capable and useable vehicle. It recently hit 250k miles and it’s still running, towing and even off-roading great. Me and my wife want to get a new one but decided to keep the 02 instead of trading it in. It’s just a great suv.
I just got me a silver 02 4runner SR5 1 owner with 250k miles for 11k. I think the price is outrageous but it being a Toyota and I have had Toyota before, all solid vehicles. 4 Runner all day long! My personal favorite that I had is is the 3rd Gen 97 model. Just an overall all great vehicle with that classic look. I now have a 5th gen. I chose to get the preface model due to the 3rd gen look. Love that square look. Who else makes a body on frame SUV.....that is reliable 🤔
The 3rd gen is the best looking. 4th gen…not so much - but it looks good from some angles. The 5th gen looks almost as good as the 3rd. But the interior styling of the 5th beats them all.
two words - frame rot. When I bought mine two years ago, none. Turns out it was just not yet breaking through. Did not pay a lot of money for it, so deciding what to do.
It's worth at least 10gs now. Today's market. Drive by a Toyota dealership there is literally no new 4 Runners. And the used ones with plus 100000 miles are selling for 20 grand and up. You got a good deal keep it 4ever
Fiat ruined Jeep! The 2000 was the last year for the decent Cherokee. 2001 all had cracked heads that Jeep would not recall or replace. Biggest consumer ripoff ever! I just went through this exact situation. I was buying my wife a new car and we were deciding between a 2020 jeep and 4runner. We ended up choosing the 4runner. We found a used one with 8000 miles for 35000.00. I think that was the best decision I could have made I love our 4Runner
2017, 18, 19 4runners going for about 32k+ right now. 25k with over 100000 miles trade in value. I just got one. And thats just the SR5. I couldn't find a TRD under 38k with less than 70k miles. I wish I got mine for 25k...thats a steal.
The 4th gen 4.7 V8 will be legendary. There will never be another 4Runner like. Full time 4WD same engine and drive train as the Land Cruiser 100 series with atrac also soft closing rear hatch.
HEY SCOTTY!!! I have owned Mercedes S Class, Porsche, BMW, Volkswagen, Mazda, Audi... And after 4 consecutive Toyotas (Corolla, Scion xB,1st Gen Tacoma), I'm enjoying the best car I've ever owned, my '07 4runner Sport. I'm 67, and it's just broken in@117K miles, and figure it's gonna out live me.

I own a 2004 4Runner Limited (V8). It has 228,000 miles on it and it runs like new. No failures of any kind other then the radiator, which broke after a long ride down a vicious hard-packed dirt washboard road in northern New Mexico. The vibration was so bad on that road that we actually discussed it in the truck, and sure enough a few days later, the radiator broke. The clutch wore out on my AC compressor, and I replaced the entire compressor myself for $60 by installing a used salvage compressor, which runs like new. I use synthetic fluids throughout. No leaks. Transmission was just flushed and filled - perfect. 2nd timing belt was replaced after it had 124,000 miles on it, and the old belt was in perfect condition. Not one single crack in the rubber, and the teeth still had nice crisp edges. Windows, power seats, Bose stereo, sunroof - all perfect. Personally, I cannot imagine ever driving anything but a 4Runner. It is Toyotas' best vehicle. The Lexus GX470 is built on a 4Runner frame with the same V8 engine. The Toyota Land Cruiser - 4Runner frame and I think the same engine and maybe same trans. Rated to pull 5000 pounds
My 2004 Toyota is still running awesome. I purchased it new. It is our primary vehicle and has given me no trouble. It also still looks great with the Galactic Grey color. Best vehicle purchase ever!
I went to a Toyota dealership a couple months ago to look for a 4Runner. Found a beautiful 2016 4Runner with about 60k miles and the price tag was $28k and then I seen a 2019 Camry XSE V6 with 17k miles that cost $30k lol man those 4runners are expensive 😅
@@wesfields9322 Unibody construction is often less susceptible to rust. The Highlander and RAV4 have fewer rust issues than the 4Runner. The frame on the 4R is solid, but will require painting and oiling in the salt belt as well as costal areas.

Have had both and I'd go with 4runner over and over. I loved my Grand Cherokee it was a limited v8 and smooth ride but hit around 90,000 miles and totally went downhill fast and had to get rid of it. Went with an Outback and it was an awesome car. I sold a 2001 4runner to my dad and he's still driving it and it's in great shape with over 200,000 miles. I have a 2008 with almost 200,000 and want a new one so badly but there's nothing wrong with the 08!
My 1991 4Runner V6 4x4 has 400,000+ miles runs like new. Im 2nd owner. I bought her in 2002 with 119,000 miles. I really don't change the oil that often either.
Hey Scotty, I just had to replace the radiator on my 05 4.0 V6. It was overheating in idle so I changed the thermo and the rad cap and when I did that, drove it about 30 miles. When I got to where I was going, I shut off the car and there was smoke coming from under the hood. The pressure in the radiator had built up with the new cap and popped off the reservoir hose and was spraying coolant vapor all over over my engine, hence the smoke. I then reconnected the hose with a hose clamp, topped off the coolant and drove it home. It had gotten so hot by the time I got home, that the coolant had melted through the radiator cap housing and was shooting out the side. 30 miles on little to no coolant on the freeway and when I changed the radiator that was the ONLY problem. She runs so smooth now. I CANNNOT BELIEVE it didn't blow a head. I thought for sure I fucked it. Toyota for life man
An old 4Runner is simply one of the most agreeable and reliable vehicles on Earth. I have an 18 year old V8 and while it's nothing special to look at and doesn't handle particularly well, out of the 20 or so cars I have owned during my life it's my favorite. Unpretentious and ridiculously capable over any terrain on the planet. A great silky smooth mile-killer on long road trips too.
Hey Scotty I am partial to the Jeep Grand Cherokee since I’ve owned a couple. Although I’m hearing your wisdom about the Toyota brand. If I find a four runner I’ll give it a go. Love your show brother. Keep on rocking the house of CARS. THANKYOU.
We're keeping our 2001 4Runner forever. It does have a rust issue with the frame though (we live in Canada). We can't find an equally sized SUV with the same qualities in a price we can afford. Newer ones are bigger than we need and WAY too expensive. An older one doesn't make sense since we already have a 2011 FJ. My Dad was always a Jeep man, starting with a 77 TJ. He moved onto the Cherokees and then smaller ones as he got older, but he always seemed to have issues. I miss the old Jeeps. If Chrysler had better quality we'd consider one. As it is, I'll keep driving my 4Runner until I win the lottery
A dealership tried to convince me that SR5 P was going for 58k right now. I said you can get a pro for that price. They scoffed I showed them the online price and they angrily and and condescendingly said well they sell for 65k and up… I just said I’m out of here that’s ridiculous for a SR5 P. They said well would you put a down payment on a incoming SR5 P without a 9k package they put on it. I said yes, they said they wouldn’t let me because they know someone will 50k + for a SR5 P 🤣🤮🥲 idiots are letting them steal $ and letting them think others will to!
4Runner as one of your subscriber's mentioned 4Ever and again as another fan of yours indicated it has proven to be a mini Land Cruiser in terms of reliability, confort, on/off road manners and most importantly the amount of love, loyalty and dedication that it has created among its fans since its introduction in the mid eighties to date. Talking of jeeps, I really believe the only one worth considering on your list Scotty is the XJ Cherokee 84'-01 with its bulletproof 4.0 six! An all time capable, boxy and sexy Jeep for all seasons!

My 2004 Toyota is still running awesome. I purchased it new. It is our primary vehicle and has given me no trouble. It also still looks great with the Galactic Grey color. Best vehicle purchase ever!
How many miles you got on it? Jut bought an 04 with 160k. Hoping it will last me a long time.
I traded my 2011 jeep grand cherokee in for a 2016 4runner trail premium. Way better vehicle!
I recently bought a 4th Gen 2006 4runner 216K Miles great car so far
I went to a Toyota dealership a couple months ago to look for a 4Runner. Found a beautiful 2016 4Runner with about 60k miles and the price tag was $28k and then I seen a 2019 Camry XSE V6 with 17k miles that cost $30k lol man those 4runners are expensive 😅
Typically those solid frames will last you years further than sedans which will have unibody. Especially if you live in the north.
@@wesfields9322 Unibody construction is often less susceptible to rust. The Highlander and RAV4 have fewer rust issues than the 4Runner. The frame on the 4R is solid, but will require painting and oiling in the salt belt as well as costal areas.
Because they're worth it
Just got myself a 05 Sport Edition. 150k miles and runs great. Crazy to think it’s an almost 20 year old truck.
I bought a 2005 4Runner with 328,xxx miles on it and it runs exceptionally strong and smooth. One of the best vehicles I've owned (around 100) in the past (40) years. Very few issues. Mainly faded paint and worn front struts/springs. I will most definitely buying another one for my wife!
C’mon?
1994 4Runner here, 5 speed manual, 4WD, dark green color with tan leather interior, sun roof, 200k on the 3.slow V6
slow but last forever it you change oil 3k miles.
You barley mentioned the 4th gen AWD 4runner 4.7 L V8 😥 it's an incredible machine. My 04 has 240K miles and runs like a dream and loves the snow with the tires I buy 🌨️ 🤗the V8 power is a huge Plus especially when your able to deactivate the traction control 😏
Just got a 2004 4.7 4x2 with 127k on it.. Hoping to take this car to 2030 .
How is the gas mileage?
@@Kreepykarenn 17-21
I’m very close to buy a 4Runner and I’m so excited
You really should wait until they redesign it in 2023. The poor gas mileage that comes with a 50k vehicle is not worth it
@@sammyjammy6647 I’m buying an older one. Brand new ones are way out of my price range
@@yoshimitsu1896 2nd gens are the sweet spot! Check the frames?

@@yoshimitsu1896 absolutely! 98 99 are great yrs. See what kinda maintenance they've done? Timing belt ect. They are fun! Good luck man...
I have a 2017 fourrunner I love it! No problems at all.
I have a 2003 4Runner that I wouldn't sell for anything. It has 245,000 miles and other than regular maintenance hasn't cost me a dime. I love this SUV.
Really glad I bought my 4Runner a few years ago.
I just bought a 2022 SR5 before these things are gone.
Toyota for life man
Update: motor cracked. Got rid of it
An old 4Runner is simply one of the most agreeable and reliable vehicles on Earth.
I love the 4 runner but they were trying to sell used ones for $60k recently. Just stupid expensive.
Same here
Overpriced 4runner
I can't afford it anymore
A dealership tried to convince me that SR5 P was going for 58k right now. I said you can get a pro for that price. They scoffed I showed them the online price and they angrily and and condescendingly said well they sell for 65k and up… I just said I’m out of here that’s ridiculous for a SR5 P. They said well would you put a down payment on a incoming SR5 P without a 9k package they put on it. I said yes, they said they wouldn’t let me because they know someone will 50k + for a SR5 P 🤣🤮🥲 idiots are letting them steal $ and letting them think others will to!
If people are stupid...: dealers will take advantage of it
I love my Runner. My 93 had 270K on it when I sold her.. And she is still kicking around.. I now have a 2016 Limited and love it soo much!
Toyota added a third brake light because of the NHTSA mandating them for the 86 model year, not out of the goodness of their hearts.

I'm seeing more and more 4RUNNERs on the roads than any other SUV out there. That's saying something. People are in love with the Toyota 4RUNNER! ♥️
I have seen no 4 Runner of any sort being sold for as low as $25k I’m in Oklahoma.
Yup. This guy smoking something.
Dude no joke. Probably just quoting inaccurate stats in Kelly blue book
Oregon has a 2016 for 20,000 with 258k
Thanks uncle Scotty. I’m saving money for the 4Runner now.
