Whenever they go to port, Robin buys Luffy a bunch of Choose Your Own Adventure books. These are the only things he reads.
As I recall, the Supernovas were created right before the VERY CHAPTER IN WHICH THEY MADE THEIR DEBUT. Oda thought Sabaody wasn't exciting enough as is, so he made up the Supernovas in a couple hours

To be fair regarding whether Luffy would recognize his father after seeing him in the paper, its implied that the world as a whole simply knows him as "Dragon" - even the marines who are with Garp at Water 7 say they have never heard Dragon's full family name before, so it probably wasnt public knowledge at all until Marineford
And in Sabo's case, its also possible he wasnt quite as well known until much further toward the timeskip - we dont know quite when he became chief of staff. If it was anytime after Marineford, Luffy likely wouldnt have seen it anyway, since he didnt have any access to news on Rusukaina
Yes, Dragon was only know as Dragon. Also is weird how the other marines with Garp did not connect that Garp was the grandfather of Luffy until Garp revealed it.
Sabo would be better if he had other name in the revolutionary army and if he was just a random revolutionary. After marineford he remembered his name and was them called by both names (like Sabo "something"), and them obtained the chief of staff position. I will believed this to be the case (with exception of his name, he was always know as Sabo).
But they say Garps family so marines probably know

Interesting about not knowing the yonko, I remember in the anime but never actually read this manga chapter so could be off - but after the yonko reveal, Robin knew about them obviously and was surprised luffy knew shanks. And then nami answers her with something like “yeah that’s who gave him the strawhat, I had no idea he was such an important man though” implying nami didn’t know about shanks being a yonko either
It also explains why shanks just went around the east blue after stealing the Gomu-Gomu and why bandits didn't know anything about him, like at all.

Yeah I was thinking that whole time. He had no idea how wrong he was. Oda DID make them at the last moment.
And few chapters later we got one of probably the best scenes (in the anime): 3 supernova captains arguing about who's the strongest, as if one of them didn't just punch the literal only person he shouldn't have leading to an admiral being after them. Difficult part 2 on the background.

The revolutionaries are much more covert ops so I think Sabo would've showed up rarely but anytime someone got a photo of him or reports of his locations were confirmed he would've showed up in the paper garunteed

That's one of Live Action's strong points, they can use the newspapers to present all the concepts of the world that are already established in the manga.
Like Cavendish, Foxy and Bellamy's Wanted poster that we saw in the trailer.
What I thought when he mentioned all the stuff added later: if anyone wanted to make something from the beginning, at this point it would be enough to put everything realistically said in a newspaper and shown in the proper way (we now know Morgan's... "style"). Maybe something could even be used to reinforce vague false ideas in the reader/watcher, like vegapunk being some kind of evil mad scientist as it was implied and suggested. You can show just his name once in a while, no pictures, something related to inventions we know he developed phrased in an ambiguous way ("government head-scientist Vegapunk improves the invention that made gunpowder obsolete" surely would sound menacing if you don't know what such invention actually does). You can REALLY both give big hints and trick the reader. Even fix plot holes, probably.
But the real question is did Ace know about the revolutionary army and Sabo, which we know he didn't

I feel like revolution news back before the time skip was more or less propaganda and the world government wouldn't issue public bounties for the revolutionaries because why would the government incentivise pirates/bounty hunters/and other civilians to pursue the revolutionaries...it wasn't until after the time skip they decided to issue public bounties because the revolutionaries are starting to make their move... And the government can't rely on Morgan's news so it's now best to rely on pirates/bounty hunters/and civilians to be the information source especially now that they were already forced all this propaganda

Everyone in Luffy's past found out about Sabo being alive at around the same time. When the Reverie happened, and we go back to Luffy's hometown, people are shocked at the news because of not only what Sabo supposedly did, but that Sabo was alive. Makino shut down the bar. So, Sabo somehow kept out of the papers. That, or only East Blue was kept out of the loop for that many years.
Luffy wouldn't have found out about Ace earlier if he had read the paper. He leaves that kind of stuff to Robin, and everyone was a tad busy rescuing a mermaid, fighting the Navy, and taking down the Celestial dragons. Even with the revelation of Rayleigh, Robin would have picked up a paper at Shakky's bar if one was present. There wasn't one. None of them were at the location where Drake was when the newspapers were dropped.
Regarding the admirals, that's probably not in the paper. If that was the case then everyone else in the crew besides Robin would have known who Aokiji was and his powers. You can't tell me Nami, Sanji, and Usopp don't read the paper. Same for Vegapunk. Nami overheard that name, but it wasn't some massive OMG moment for her.
3:25 That part where you talk about there being an entire column in the newspaper about pirate bounty makes me want a video on all the possible columns in morgan's newspapers. I'm sure that all of your knowledge from random videos like "Trees in one piece" would be useful here.

One thing that I realised rewatching early one piece is that there is a massive information gap between the different blues and the two parts of the grand line. Devil fruits were not only rare in the east blue, several otherwise well informed characters hadn‘t only never seen one, but seemed to think they were just a myth. So a lot of the assumptions in this video are somewhat off. there is of course the possibility that there is a sort of information quarantine in place, with different newspapers for the different sections of the world. The pople of the east blue have a decent chance never realizing for a fact that the fruits exist, but I think no body in the new world will ever live their life without running into a fruituser. The same is true for haki- the newspaper for the new world might have in depth coverage of haki users and their exploints, which is absent in the papers for the blues and the first half of the grand line. Even robin seemed unaware of haki (in skypia). Makes one think what would happen if the new world edition of the newspaper was distributed to the other seas
Oda literately did come up with all of the Super Nova and their designs the chapter they where introduced because he was afraid Sabaodi would be too boring otherwise. Also, One Piece was “…originally supposed to be a story about taking down four powerful pirates called the Yanko.” The Warlords extended the story but a lot.
I think it was his editors that suggested he come up with something to spice up sabaody but not what it was

Ace read the newspaper and that's why he knew and told about Kid, Law, Bege and Cavendish being the big rookies for Yamato.
You know, a lot of this stuff calls into question some of the things in the first saga, like people being dumbfounded at seeing a devil fruit power and thinking they're a myth. Like, they'd be reading about powerful devil fruit users in the paper all the time, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to them.

Well, we do know that Luffy can read, even if he rarely does.
I don't think he would've known about Ace ahead of time by much. The paper Nyon read was pretty close to Marineford. Even accounting for the delay on getting from the outside world to Amazon Lily, at most, he'd know starting from Sabody Archipelago.
Would he even be able to do anything to save Ace from Sabody?
Probably not. Kuma sending him to Amazon Lily was a blessing, as it caused a chain of events that gave him an opening directly into Impel Down/Marineford through Boa. Say they helped Hachi and immediately left to save Ace, they never would have faced Kizaru and Kuma, who sent them away. In which case, how on earth do they get to Impel Down?

i feel nami filters the newspaper when she reads it, and when she finds an article that would be interesting to a particular member of the crew she'll point it out to them, like chopper might not read the paper at the reg, but whenever there is like an article on medical science nami reads it, recognizes that this might be of interest to chopper and then hands him the paper like "you might wanna read this one"

Halfway thru the vid of you speaking of the paper an idea just popped into my head and it involves Vivi. X front page and center a message to The Strawhats telling them she's ok, maybe even where to find her coded into the paper only they would know.

If Luffy could read the newspaper then the series would be over. Luffy would be too powerful.
But for real tho, I would’ve loved to see how the interaction with dragon in Loguetown would’ve been different. Even if Luffy didn’t physically see Dragon, smoker saying his name would’ve gotten Luffy interested. Cause you know Luffy would’ve wanted to try to fight him given the chance.

Carrot could still return to the story, especially if you consider three things:
(1)Her time with the Straw Hats has in common with the usual Straw Hat tragic flashback formula. Not only did she witness Pedro's sacrifice, but she has also heard him discuss how he wanted to witness the "Dawn", so she likely wanted to accomplish his dream.
(2)Even though, objectively, we last see Carrot when she was appointed as ruler of _Zou,_ not only had Wanda and another Mink assured her they'd run the country for her, but they also mentioned Pedro, whose name she repeated. Given the above ordeal she went through, along with how suspicious it seems for Carrot to state Pedro's name in response, it's unlikely that her bout as _Zou_'s figurehead will last long. If anything, she may even feel am obligation to go back to the Straw Hats sometime on Pedro's behalf.
(3)In the Three Seas theory, Carrot has some things in common with Usopp and Franky. Not only is she a comic-relief creator who's weird creations help (she has a Shoujo drawing style, but they helped do the job). Given how Usopp & Franky joined two members after Zoro & Chopper (Jinbei correlates as the New World version of the first member), it makes narrative sense that Carrot wouldn't join yet because the second New World recruit hasn't joined yet (it may or may not be Vivi or Bonnie; there's a chance it could be a surprising old character, like Rebecca, or a new one, leaving Vivi for last since she also has in common with Sanji & Brook). Therefore, Oda may be saving her recruitment for later.
As for deciding on the Xenomorph, I applaud you. I've been meaning to find a way to see the _Alien_ and _Predator_ movies since they're not on Netflix (considering there's hints on Blockbuster making a comeback, it can't happen soon enough), so this could be cool fanservice. I bet you might reference that funny _Spaceballs_ scene where the Xenomorph dances Ragtime! 😂
Tekking! An idea for you to put on the backburner for later! I often like to listen to videos to fall asleep to, so I got thinking. How about once you finish up the entirety of Animal Facts, you should put it all into one long as hell video!
17:00 I think Franky, as a shipright whose know-how of watercrafts and machinery would lead him to semi-regularly or at least somewhat occassionally checking the newspaper. There are bound to be shipwrights and technical geniuses known outside the ones we've seen, which Franky would want to be well-informed on as potential inspiration for the Sunny.
Additionally, as the only Straw Hat who actually lived on a high-profile island prior to joining the Straw Hats, he likely met and knew plenty of travellers as Water 7 is a common destination for those traversing the Grand Line, and I like to think he still keeps up to date with other pirates he's seen come and go at Water 7 through the newspaper. Plus, he's a relatively old guy, and old guys like to read the news as a passtime (but instead of sipping on morning his coffee, Franky would be chugging his morning cola).

Well one thing to consider is that even if he knew Dragon was on the news paper, there wouldn’t be any dots to connect. The WG probably covers up the fact that one of their greatest soldiers and the Hero himself is even related to the worlds most wanted man.
They might just refer to him as Dragon, and give no other names.
Yes Dragon was only know as Dragon, only people like Sengoku knew his true name. But in Marineford the name Monkey D. Dragon was revealed to the world.

The thing I find interesting is what a normal civilian thinks how strong a Yonko is for exaple Whitebeard how would they explain his strength because they don't know about devil fruits or haki so they have to assume that he just went lifting a lot and that all that earthquake stuff is just exaggeration.

One big thing you shouldn't forget about is that getting news consistently is difficult when you are at sea. The Seas are vast and the News Coo won't be able to cover square mile. Sure, you get one every now and then, but pirates won't get every update. The Marines have their network of Den-Den Mushis, so relaying information is mostly fine for them. Some delays for certain, but everything relevant will reach each ship eventually. As a pirate, you have to actively seek out new information unless you have a dedicated network. Which the (previous) Yonko do. The real question is what the Strawhats that do read the newspaper end up communicating to him.

When he was storyboarding Sabaody, both him and his editor believed it was kinda empty, so he decided to add the Supernovas, and then he regretted making so many of them xD Some of them, like Bonney or Drake, perhaps already existed as a character concepts, and he just made them into Supernovas (pure speculation on my end), but most of them were for sure created on the spot. And on that note, Killer is called Killer because he ran out of cool referential names, and basically said "well, fuck it, you are now Killer".
Storyboarding takes place way in advance, for example, the chapter of Whiskey Peak where Miss Wednesday reveals she is actually Princess Vivi came out the moment Oda, after storyboarding Alabasta, was thinking of Vivi's character design, and decided to make her into Miss Wednesday, because until that week they were 2 different characters. That chapter was re-written at the 11th hour and a half, actually, and everything between there an Alabasta altered to include her

in The Marine Ford arc I always thought it was confusing, or at least it came across as if the marines didn't know what Powers and Devil Fruits the Whitebeard commanders had and at some points it also seemed as if the whiteboard pirates didn't know what devil fruits the admirals had. Since they are among the most notorious pirates and part of a yonko crew I would have thought the marines knew their powers as they must have fought against each other before on several occasions and same vice versa for the WB pirates to know at least the admirals powers
How strange and coincidental, Dead By Daylights coming chapter has Xenomorph as killer and survivor is Ellen Ripley.

Well besides the fact that one time Luffy misread his Bounty of 1.5 million I can see him & Chopper reading the comic section of the Newspaper
There are some things though that Luffy knew that others didn’t. Mainly having 1st hand experience with Garp’s strength. I feel like having the strongest marine in the world as his grandfather training him put all those early villains on a low pedestal to Luffy as he’d hear Don Krueger talk about how strong he is and Luffy is has Garp in his head
Characters aware of something that we aren't I think is done well in Detective Conan for the Bourbon Arc, if you know you know.

It's a guilty pleasure of mine.
Now Prey (2022) is one of the best action movies of recent years and one of my favorites, on par with the first Predator.
But dragon's full name wasn't revealed to general public untill garp revealed it in post enis lobby. So luffy couldn't have connected the dots there...
The real reason Luffy doesn’t read the paper is for narrative purposes, when someone is explaining what’s happening in the paper and create an organic form by which information is being portrayed to our protagonist without being needlessly, chunky and hard to digest because people don’t talk like we needed deactivate the bomb codes because typically if you’re there, you know that already
Vegapunk’s recent exploits were being kept classified, cause Nani only learned about him from listening in on Koby’s conversation with Luffy.
