The reason I’m drawn to the Modern Wisdom podcast so much versus others is because I care about what Chris has to say as much his guests. When a guest is struggling to think of the name or term for a particular concept they’re talking about, Chris names it immediately.

That thing about celebrating accomplishing your goals with friends rather than alone is so important. We're social creatures, we try to accomplish goals not only for the sake of ourselves, but for the sake of the people around us and in our own life. So to have others there to celebrate makes it feel a lot more real and like the achievement had some impact in the world and is truly worth celebrating.

You radiate everything i wish i will eventually also radiate. Keeping yourself confidently stupid to learn easier is insanely useful trick and it humbles one so often that it becoles second nature without actually degrading ones self as its just an observable fact that you simply cannot be the smartest person in all topics, there's just not enough time during your lifetime. Biggest struggles we have is with our egos and my ego has fucked things over and over again during the years.

I can really relate to your feeling of being an observer and orbiter. I've felt like that all my life and I have a lot of the same insecurities as you do. It's an interesting place to be in - feeling adequate in a lot but not quite adequate enough and like you'll never quite fit because your own standards are too high to ever reach a place of acceptance in yourself or among others.

  • @MGShadow1989
    @MGShadow1989 หลายเดือนก่อน

Just a thought on that question about ego and confidence - I've always been myself, I've never behaved in a manner inauthentic to who I am to please others, however, I was always apologetic about who I am, holding back a bit so I don't annoy others, often anxious.
I've become less apologetic about being myself, giving less shits about whether I'm annoying someone (not going out of my way to do so, just caring less if I am) and in doing so I've become a bit more egotistical.
Example, I'll get into an argument with someone and if it's something I know very well I'll say something akin to "this isn't a debate, I'm correcting you"
So while I'm certainly more confident, I'm also not a nicer person, and it seems to be a difficult balance - being more confident without being a bit of an arse.

There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance. I would say arrogance is that 'false confidence' in many ways. I think many young people, including myself at one point, conflate the two. But once you recognize the difference and build your confidence around tangible things like wisdom, skill, knowledge, empathy, and personal experience you'll develop an even better sense of self and direction and that self doubt and imposter syndrome will become less and less of an issue.

With the question about approaching men at the gym, Chris was too generous with an answer, assuming we're talking about a romantic approach. While it was a cute answer, it can hurt somebody because not all women know how to respect boundaries. While compliments rarely go wrong, touching or being too cocky, if he doesn't find you attractive, may end up unpleasantly.

    Best place to ask questions?
~ Do you think there is - gatekeeping from some Americans and/or subdued apathy from some in the UK - for British expats that are in the US and fans of some parts of it?

Don't feel guilty for smizing. People do it all the time and most people enjoy being on the receiving end.

In America, we call that state a slump.
Sometimes we might use the phrase:
    "Stuck in a rut."
In sentence form, it might read like this:
I just haven't been performing well lately. I really need to get out of this slump.

What I learnt to be a good youtuber:
    1. Good camera + audio
    2. Good public speaking skill
    3. Good look
    4. Good topic

      1. Genuine interest in a good topic
      2. Good audio
      3. Ability to speak articulately to a camera lens with enthusiasm to compliment the good audio
      4. Good camera and express yourself visibly as genuine and authentic.
That’s really the main order of importance as far as I can tell. Genuine interest and passion/curiosity/enthusiasm in something that other people may also find interesting is always #1 when it comes to success on TH-cam specifically.
Good audio is key because if I can’t even put the video on another screen and enjoy listening, then I won’t stick around as a subscriber.
Speak well so even people who aren’t great at English can understand you.
I was watching a podcast a while back and they talked about what makes content creators fail, and the biggest thing they agreed on was becoming/being “cringe”. If you’re genuine and enthusiastic and authentic, it’s pretty hard to be truly cringe to most people, since it’s not an act.
Hope this helps in some way. 👍👍
Edit: This is just what I’ve gathered by watching WAY too much TH-cam, so I know what keeps people around, and I combine that with listening to successful TH-camrs about what they’re doing to stay relevant and what it takes to get there in the first place.
ALSO!!!! Consistency is key. There are very few content creators that get away with sporadic uploads (Michael Reeves types), and get any level of success on the platform. Consistency is a precursor to success in basically any domain tbh, and Chris talked about that all the time, especially on the Hormozi podcasts. That’s #0.5 on my list of important as it comes before number 1. Be ready to be set and keep a consistent schedule for uploads. It’s hard, but the way to maximize your chances of success in any field. 👌

Realize that 90% of the stuff you worry about are things that you cannot affect. Then work on the things you can affect instead.
