Some of these are creepypasta level crashes. Something like the Bowser Intro playing as though a virus in an emulator was about to activate its payload (bonus points to 9:09 for the glitchy noises in this one sounding like some sort of siren), getting knocked out of the spotlight causing the game to become a mess of sprites, "Illusion lies ahead" after spin jumping on a hothead, and of course all the death crashes.
Some of em were goofy: 10:43 "what did i tell you two about fighting in the game's RAM?"
1:54 is where i laughed because the text said like what autocorrect would say “Illusion and has put an dinosaur land?” 😂

I love watching these. It's so strange that I never have personally experienced a single crash in this game and I used to play it obsessively as a kid. It would have really scared me😂

The crashes with text are funny for me, like the "appears to be a gateway" at 5:04
i always found it so interesting that the game seems to crash as spectacularly as it does. and from my experience messing around with corrupting snes games, it's not just super mario world. every snes game from my (admittedly small) library crashes in a similar way. makes me wonder why that's the case.
Maybe because they use low-level programing languages like assembly and don't have a crash handler to terminate the game, so the processor continues to execute the misleading code, the wrong combination of 1s and 0s is enough to call the wrong function in the processor making it execute unexpected results. But now days every computer is a precision machine and it is already programmed to output a error screen before havock breaks in.

Hey great stuff, love me some corrupted crashes! Just some feedback, personally I think you're letting the corruption state go on for too long (I just sat and skipped 5 seconds over and over again to get to the next crash) and I also think you're showing too little of the stuff leading up to the crash. I would personally love to see more of the lead up hehe
Well, most crashes are pretty long and I tend to show them all the way to the end. There are crashes that last 5 seconds, as well as crashes that last 30 seconds or more. And about the things that led to the crash, there's not much to show, because most of the crashes are done with ACE, so basically they crash "out of nowhere" hahah, but thank you very much for the feedback, I'll analyze it in the next videos.

Actually, I've kind of had a dream like that. I was messing with some kind of portal door in the dream and I somehow broke the mechanism behind it. Once I opened it my movment was halted and my vision quickly filled by red squares while something like that noise played. Honestly one of the most terrifying dreams I've had.

Fact: You can actually manage to crash the game like that on an actual SNES, and if you do so, expect your game's current save you are to be compromised, since I've read that it can actually corrupt the save data. The game cartridge will still work fine though. Doing it in the Nintendo Switch SNES emulator will sometimes bring the typical "The software has closed because an error ocurred" error.

Yeah hahah this happens because any value above 80 written in RAM $1DF9 causes this hurry up sound and generally most crashes write values above 80 to that address.

This is really interesting stuff, some made it seem like the game literally exploded with the bang SFX that play!
May I ask if you know the technical explanation of how and why the game crashes the way they do in these clips? It's weird to me how a game would spaz out and flash seemingly random graphics and play all sorts of effects.
With some, the music keeps going but some, the sound is held in place and I don't get why that happens.
Well, I'll try to explain it briefly. In SMW, everything is done through addresses. Each address has a value and is responsible for doing something. The sound effects and music in the game have their respective addresses and their respective values. In this case, each value makes a different sound. When you crash the game, the crash writes random values to hundreds of different addresses and, most of the time, it does this to the addresses responsible for the sounds in the game, causing extremely weird sounds. In cases where the music continues normally, it's because the crash didn't changed the addresses responsible for the sounds.

Great video, its always so interesting to see crashes in video games, but i have a question that may be obvious. Can these crashes/glitches be preformed without any modifications or do you have to have it modified?
No, these glitches can be performed without modification. They can even be run even on a real console, with the risk of burning a cartridge depending on how heavy the crash is 💀

How do you prevent the SPC from crashing? I always get "Sound CPU executed "STOP" at [address]" when I mess around with the ROM. I'm guessing that happens when sounds like 1:12 try to play. Maybe that's only an Snes9x thing?
This is only snes9x thing. In Bizhawk this doesn't occur
