      The Fast Lane Truck the Tradesman 4WD is way better than the Tradesman 2WD because you have better Traction with 4WD than you do with 2WD especially when you’re towing sometimes you need 4WD for towing

    Rod Romain has done a great job leading the HD pickup team for Ram. Ford used to be the truck to beat, and all of the big 3 make a good truck. The look on his face about the manual said it all. They hear the gripes but the numbers didn't support it (and the G56 really should've been a G85 for the GCW). The Ram team is making good engineering and economic decisions for the brand.

    looks like they nailed the driver comfort even more. My "old" 2015 Ram 2500 Megacab is a dream to go cruise down roads all day with. I've taken mine across country doing 30-35hr drives nonstop during winter and going at 75-85mph... It is just a joy to drive around, love the sweet spot at 30-40mph when it shifts into the next gear,drops down to like 1300rpms and that gradually increasing rumble of the engine makes you smile... The truck really does leave you with much less fatigue than other trucks. Truck barely notices sideways winds, very quiet inside the cab even with the wonderful engine noise of the Cummins. I know they haven't tested it, but i would imagine its still gets the best mpg when compared to Ford and Chevy

    I think it’s terrible car manufacturers make you pay for premium headlights. IMO that’s a safety feature that customers shouldn’t have to pay for a top trim package to get the best equipment to be able to see at night.

    • @garyblatt8925
      @garyblatt8925 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I absolutely agree that safety features on a truck should not be tied to luxury packages. My truck would have been configured much differently if the better headlights were an option across the entire line of trims.

      Jarred Eckman Had one headlight go out on my ltz silverado with led package. just before bumper to bumper ran out $1400. I think I'll stick with the generic h11 for $2.50 that come in the ram hd I have now.

    • @2010challengerRT
      @2010challengerRT 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That's why they're premium headlights, you pay a premium for them. The LEDs look fancy but they aren't a safety requirement. Normal halogen headlights work fine. A base model truck doesn't need laser beams that see into the future and cost over $1000 each to replace.

    • @MoonyJohn
      @MoonyJohn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@balreadysaid One reason why when I bought my f150 I didnt want the higher trim because of the led stuff. I like the looks and everything but I would hate to replace anything if and when it would have worn out. Only thing I might do is look at diode dynamics led bulbs but still those are $150 for a pair. Ive seen some in person and they look normal in a halogen housing.

    So many are impressed by large numbers but I like that Steve pointed out the volume Bighorn 2500 at 1675lbs payload. The guys buying these volume Cummins trucks for huge numbers are in for a reality check. Know what you're getting in to before shelling out money for a HD truck that has the payload of a half ton.
    EDIT: Just going to add that this isn't just a Ram thing but all 2500 models can use up their rating quickly espcially with a diesel. Most buyers look at the tow rating and call it a day without understanding GVW.

    If you tow an average of 26,000lbs regularly then these trucks would be a good alternative to a semi. Any thing over that for safety, longevity and capability stick to a semi. As you see here for towing a backhoe or similar equipment, vehicles or shipping containers, these trucks serve well, only time will tell if hauling over 30,000lbs regularly with these trucks will hold up. My opinion being a cdl A holder for 20+years, nothing is more capable or safer hauling heavy loads then a class 7, 8 truck. If you wanna throw away $50 grand every 5 years, a predicted lifespan of these trucks hauling that weight constantly before serious repair is needed, even semis need expensive repair after a few years of abuse over these poor constructed roads across the US. I own a 2017 F350 dually it has 46,000 miles no issues yet and tows 20,000lbs regularly but only time will tell on this one too. Once these trucks reach 150,000 miles they start to break down. My advice if you go this route, get the extended warranty, with maintenance package and get rid of after they expire.

    As far as HD trucks going the way of auto transmissions vs manual. I think it has to do more with these Truck Manufacturers trying to reach the masses and making it simpler to step into a truck like this & drive it vs having to worry if someone knows how to drive stick or not. Also it’s one less thing drivers have to worry about or deal with when towing.
    One last thing aren’t semi trucks and big rigs for the most part still using a manual transmission or a form of it as in the automated manual transmission?
    Again great video!

    I honestly don’t understand how Ram 3500s are so popular when they seem to always show show up at the very bottom of Consumer Reports’ reliability charts. Anybody have some insight?

      All the diesel trucks since 2007 have taken a pretty good nose dive in terms of reliability and cost of ownership. The emissions crap, DPF/cat converter, the urea injection, all that stuff is extremely expensive when it breaks, most guys end up removing it and getting an aftermarket tune when it gives them problems(sucks if you live where they emissions test though).
      Although I tend to think that you're going to have much better service with a new 2019 diesel truck vs it being 2009 and you buying a new diesel truck then. Those first few years of the new emissions standards, the big 3 hadn't worked out all the kinks yet and Ford was still selling that POS Navistar diesel in their trucks(6.0 and 6.2 Powerstroke)

      I wouldn’t listen to anything consumer reports claims. At the end of day buy what you like! There all great trucks. But yes emissions are terrible.

      The Cummins engine. If Ford or Chevy stuffed a Caterpillar in one of their trucks that truck would be most popular.

      My old Ranger was rated to 1350 payload, not bad for a 1/4 ton truck to be only a few hundred off from a 1 ton.

    How did Temps look when pulling that grade with the foot on the floor? Does the engine derate under extreme loads? How does it manage temperatures when it's max load like that?

    Ford will come out with 1,005 lb ft of torque. Haha

    • @406Steven
      @406Steven 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Then Chevy will do 1,010, then Ford will knock them out of the park with 1,020. Whether or not they even change the tune doesn't matter, they just give the marketing guys a pen and set them to work.

      Yeah but they'll need to add more horsepower then a Cummins would to make the same power

    Does anyone know the length or the grade of the hill they were climbing? I know where it is, I don't know how long or the grade. That truck was humping that load up the hill, the Cummins and the Aisin are a beast combination. What concerned me was the braking and I don't see how you can take weight out of the truck, add capacity and not have controllability problems, even with bigger brakes and a more rigid frame. I think the confidence would only come to a competent driver operating within the limits of the truck, how many of those people do you think are behind the wheel of dually's pulling 5th wheel RVs? It seems like Ford and Ram own this heavy duty heavy towing segment, I don't see too many GMs, am curious how they will respond.

    All this torque doesn't do much when you don't get it all till 4th gear. I had a 2016 Ram 3500 High Output sold it because it was a death trap if tried to cross a busy highway it would crawl across because of torque management and you would almost get hit. Also come on Ram you can't even brag about 1,000 lbs. of class leading tq. when you can only get it in a 3500 and have to pay a extra $2,500 for it bring total cost to $11,950. Ford and GM both have more power in the 2500 segment which most people buy for way less cost for a diesel.

      Sly Ny you obviously had the 3:42 gears. You should have gotten the 4:10 ratio. The 4:10's don't do what you explained. Big difference in the gear choices. You don't need to slam Ram because you don't know shit about gearing. Should have ordered your truck correctly.

      @@55afishead Sorry Mike H. you can only get 4.10 gears in a dully. YOU don't know shit. It was such a problem the dealer had engineers from chrysler there for 2 day looking at it. Its torque management you push the throttle over 70% it goes into limp mode to save the trans as said by chrysler and they don't get full torque till 4th gear.
