    I purchased a Ram 3500 with this newly re-engineered Cummins 6.7 last February. Not only is it much more powerful, but also unbelievably quiet. Oh, you can still hear and feel that it is diesel, but gone is most of the noise, vibration, and harshness. Get you one of these bad boys. You'll be so glad you did !!

      @@KC-lg7tx Those are a handful of trucks my friend definitely not the majority, that 840 truck has been " Bulletproofed " which is about 5k....to what make it ALMOST as good as a stock Cummins or Duramax. I have owned three Ram 2500....yes the 68 RFE is hot garbage completely agree.....Transmissions have always been their weak point for sure, I have heard very good things about the Aisin but no real experience with it. I have several friends that are die hard Ford fan boys....every single one of them have had several different PSD from 7.3, 6.0, HUGE POS 6.4, and four with the new 6.7.......every single one of them traded those trucks for a Cummins or Duramax, mostly Duramax. Ford changes their PSD every two years because sad truth is FORD can't build a reliable Diesel engine.....that have proven that. 7.3 was the best Diesel they ever built everything after that has been shit. Go ahead pay 70K for a POS be my guest, trucks look great, super quiet, and very strong BUT they ALWAYS have problems. I have logged more miles on a Diesel than a HUGE majority of people on here and I can tell you PSD is a joke, not being a dick, its just a fact! My best friend has 4 2018 PSD and all 4 have been in the shop, all 4 have less than 60,000 miles.......yeah great diesel engine there guy, don't believe the BS you hear on TH-cam......big HP and TQ numbers doesn't mean jack if the thing is un-reliable over the long haul. The HD Aisin 6 speed auto trans that is teamed with this High Output 6.7 is pretty stout; robust. Service Manager where I bought my 2019 Ram 3500 tells me that this Aisin is very similar to transmissions in over the road trucks (semis; tractor trailers) and that there are next to NO issues that have come up with them over all the years that they have been used. The Chrysler's 68RFE would not be able to handle the higher power and torque of this re engineered 6.7. They would burn out. But not the Aisin.

    1000 ft lbs at 1800 rpm is 343 hp...
    That means that this truck only needs to hold torque to 2,100 rpm to make 400hp.
    This engine will be nearly bog proof. It basically makes its peak power everywhere.
    It also only needs to make 780 ft lbs at 2,700 rpm to keep the 400hp.

    • @MyTubeUser321
      @MyTubeUser321 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      With that in mind, do you think having a 10 speed transmission like the V8 competitors would help any?
      I think the Aisin is fine with this new setup IMO.

    • @mattg8116
      @mattg8116 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To be fair, thats just the awesome thing about diesel! For example the Powerstroke will make 935 ft-lbs at that same 1800 rpm, but holds that torque well since it gets all the way up to 450 hp at a respectable 2800 rpm. Both the Ram and Ford will lose some torque as rpm's increase but not much.

    • @giovanni4436
      @giovanni4436 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      We act as if this means a new realm of capability. It doesn't. These new trucks have their torque canceled out with taller gearing. If you wanted, you could have a peaky gas engine do the work with short gears and close spacing. In fact, many medium duty trucks are gas and have the similar capability. Gearing is how things were normally done in the truck industry, but the hairdresser truck segment wants those peak output numbers.

    • @KTMcaptain
      @KTMcaptain 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Giovanni HP is HP so yeah a gas motor can do the same work. It’s just nicer to use a Diesel engine when you can start a grade at 1600 rpm and never have to shift.

    • @KTMcaptain
      @KTMcaptain 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      TH-cam User not on something with such a flat HP curve.
      All the trans does is match rpm with road speed. If your average HP throughout a gear is the same, then it doesn’t matter how many speeds you have.
      This is why the 5 speed 2009 wrx beat the 6 speed sti. Same HP at the wheels (different manufacturer ratings though), but one had less torque interruption.

    The new 6.7L Cummins with GM's new 10-Speed Allison would be a beast.
    Tho, I am still purchasing a 2020 GMC 3500HD 4x4 Denali Dually. Its 32,000 lbs tow rating (35,500 Lbs for a Single Cab Dually), is what I need. I currently have a 2016 Ram 3500 Dually 4x4 that just hit 330,000 miles and has towed for 296,000 miles. I generally tow right around 28,000-32,000 lbs with a 5-car trailer and the Ram hasn't been holding up. The 6.7L/Aisin Combo has been perfect for the first 220-250k miles, but is slowing falling apart. The truck is a 2016 Ram 3500 Crew Cab Laramie Limited Dually 4x4 with the 6.7L Cummins (385 - Hp / 900 - Tq) and Aisin AS69RC 6-Speed that had every single option on it when I bought her new, I got a killer dealer on her for $62,000 for an almost $80,000 truck. I wanted to trade her in when she hit 300k miles, dealer offered $15,000.
    The interior on the 4th Gen Rams is the absolute worst quality. Right around 120k miles, everything started to fall apart; center console lid, driver seat frame, radio freezes, speakers blown, dash rattles, 12-Volt outlet wiring caught fire, dash flickers, trailer brake controller doesn't work and I had to install an aftermarket, 4wd knob broke, sunroof leaks, back sliding window gets stuck, cooled passenger front seat stopped working, leather on driver seat bottom and back/center console lid/passenger seat bottom leather have all torn. There is probably a few other things I am missing.
    The drivetrain has been perfect tho up until 250k miles. Broke almost all the teeth of the rear axle pinion, Turbo bearings failed and was replaced by an OEM Holset HE351VE (Which was $3,000 by the way), intercooler cracked, exhaust manifold cracked, EGR gummed up (I Know that is common and I removed it), on my 3rd turbo to exhaust manifold MLS gasket due to failure when using exhaust brake, on my 4th lift pump because they seem to fail every 100k miles, on my second high pressure pump, Aisin transmission lost reverse and was replaced at Dodge at 247,532 miles, Aisin transmission lost lower gears 1/2/3 and was replaced at Dodge at 315,498 miles, Aisin torque converter shutter and failure at 329,792 miles and was covered under previous replacement at Dodge. Yesterday, second Turbo failure (Compressor wheel was sideways in housing) and was replaced with a slightly larger Precision Turbo.
    The guys over at the Dodge/Ram Dealer recommend that at 350,000 miles, if the engine makes it that far without any issues, to have the entire engine gone through and pretty much do a full rebuild.
    My Trucks GCWR has never been less than 30,000 lbs while towing, and has been as high as 40,000 lbs, and according to the truck, it has been hooked up to my trailer for 296,xxx miles out of 330,000 miles.
    A buddy of mine who is in the same line of work as I has a 2015 Chevy 3500HD 4x4 Dually Crew Cab with the 6.6L LML Duramax (397 - Hp / 765 - Tq) and 6-Speed Allison 1000. Now, the truck has a max tow rating of 23,000 lbs but tows over that almost every time. He has a 4-Car trailer and when loaded he is pulling around 25,000 lbs to 28,000 lbs. The truck just hit 300,000 miles and other than the DEF system problems he had, and has since removed all of it at around 150k miles, the truck has been flawless. He removed the stock Bosch CP4.2 injection pump and replaced it with a different unit before his failed during the same time he removed the DEF crap since they are known to fail.
    I know he doesn't tow quite ass heavy as I do (Average of 5,000 lbs less), only because his truck legally can not tow as much, but it can tow it, it is just holding up much better. Now, who knows how long the 6.7L Cummins will last past 350k miles, or the Duramax, but they both have 300,000+ miles on them, and he has only had DEF system problems, while I could have bought a brand new Toyota Corolla for the same price as parts I have replaced.
    My Next truck is going to be the next Gen Chevy/GMC 3500HD. I will give them about a year to make sure all the bugs are worked out on these all new Duramax Engines and Allison 10-Speeds, but will own one.

    What they aren't telling you is that the engine very rarely puts out 1,000lb/ft of torque, and when it does, it spools up to that point slowly. Hard to believe that in order to get 400hp and 1,000lb/ft torque about 30 years ago, you needed a big 14 liter engine (NTC400).

    So, is the new "standard output" going to have all the same engine upgrades as the "high output"? Same block, CP4.2 fuel pump, etc? Is the only thing different the transmission? They keep talking how they got to 1000 Lb-Ft but never address the regular Cummins. I would assume it is the same motor, just de-tuned. If thats the case, the reliability may be even better on the new 6.7.

    • @sonsofliberty3081
      @sonsofliberty3081 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it's just tuned for better fuel economy. I would imagine that the tuned down version would go a half a million or more miles. My semi had 900,000 before I had an overhaul and that was a Detroit. I've seen a cat and Cummins go over a million before overhauling it. Now when I mean overhaul that's just polishing the heads and dropping in new pistons and sleeves.

    Still aint gonna last like a decent 24 valve or 12 valve. What's actual wheel torque? I mean, I'm a ford guy, honestly allvwrte doing is adding more power to make up for lost power. I see tons of potential problems with this motor. Quit saying they're solid. If they were so god damn bullet proof these mechanics wouldnt be working overtime. But the more I see my buddy's shops the more not-fords I see filling them. What I miss about my Cummins? That 20 mpg towing at 70 mph. I saw 28 with maybe 2k pounds payload once. But that was a properly built mild 24 valve. It was around 400 at the wheels, perfect tune. Perfect motor. Wish I still had it but a stock hauler has been putting it through its paces. Hasn't skipped a best yet and it's been coast to coast a dozen times or more by now.
