The song was written by Astrid Lindgren and is from the movie Ronja Rövardotter - Ronja the robber's daughter. Which happens to be my favorite of Lindgren's stories. And Jonna nailed this one like she usually do.

Astrid Lindgren wrote the song but the music is written by Björn Isfält who did all the music in movie, like the theme song in the intro for example.

I'm Swedish and my mom used to sing this song to me as a lullaby when I was a kid. It was one of my favourite ones and I remember asking her to sing it so many times. It's such a a good memory. She was the reason I started to sing, and when I took up busking, this was one of the songs I always had on my list of songs. It just means so much to me.

Aww... the memories from my childhood is overwhelming when this song is played! The original by Lena Nyman is always the best but Jonna is a great successor.
Just a little update.. Astrid Lindgren who wrote this for the film Ronja the Robbers daughter (based on the book with the same name) is the same author who wrote Pippi Longstocking :)

This version is beautiful but for me the original sung by Lena Nyman (the actress in the movie the song is from) is closer to my heart! She sounds more like a mother that really means every word of the song. But this version is very beautiful and magical!

Just like others have pointed out, this is not an old traditional lullaby. It´s only about 40 years old, but it is in the same spirit as really old Swedish lullabyes. I know several traditional lullabyes, and they are often sad and talks about hunger, herding sheeps in the mountains and dangers to beware of.

Heard this at some point as a child. Probably as a part of a childrens story but maybe at some point as a lullaby. Can confirm that the old traditional scandinavian/swedish folk songs and lullabys can be dark, melancholic and sad by todays standards. Guesstimating that life was harder back then and weaving in old wisdom into lullabys and such would teach/prepare kids from young age about reality of life. Cool reaction video! Cheers from Swe.
Can also very much recommend "Hårgalåten". Chills!

My mother sang this to me when I was a child and I will sing it to my children so yes, it's very much a swedish lullaby. In Sweden most of us grew up with respect for the forrest and all who dwels in it, especially in night time. We're not scared but we have respect and this song really is a song to represent that.

I have heard this song several times and the more I hear it the more I like it! For me it becomes even more beautifull by listening to the words without having the english translations (as I am learning more and more of the norwegian language I can also understand this song better). I am also curious about if this song is being used as lullaby nowadays. I think I should try to put it on repeat next time I am having troubles falling asleep. I imagine it will work by focusing on the song!

Astrid Lindgren is still kicking ass. The special corps in the Ukraine is called the "Karlsson på taket" - specialists. Taken from her children books about Karlsson på taket(Karlsson on the roof). They are the tip of the spear over there and Karlsson had a propeller on his back, which is fitting for them.

The wolf howls in the night forest
he wants to but can't sleep
Hunger tears in his wolfish belly
o it's cold in his stove
You wolf you wolf, don't come here
    you'll never get my kid
The wolf howls in the night forest
    howling with hunger and complaining
    But I want a pig's tail
    that fits wolves' bellies
You wolf you wolf, don't come here
    you'll never get my kid
Sleep my child in mother's bed
Let the wolf howl in the night
but I'm going to have a chicken skank
if no one else has taken it
You wolf you wolf didn't come here
    you'll never get the kid
