Built one, and I've been building radio equipment for 50 years. Range of the device was about 5 inches!
This person actually buys full kit and assemble it!!
Haha thank you. I was wondering this myself. I just picked up amateur radio and I thought this device was cool for a second. Then I remembered basic circuitry.
I think it works better if you have a phone from the 90s.
Do you think it would work better with a bigger antenna?
This was the only comment I was looking for. About the range of this tiny board.
Every smart dad gonna have one of these installed under the dinner table 😅

Unfortunately today the cellphones use 4G technology. This device was tested with a cellphone that used 2G technology.
Yes😂😂
I was thinking about such uses myself... LOL

My boy and I love this channel, this is the first video we have seen. I recently purchased my boy a kit to show how to build circuit boards, this is going to be a great next level project.
Have a hard time finding that type of phone to even jam. lol. Cool video!
It would work with modern phone, too. It creates a static signal, that is stronger than the cell signal and therefore blocks it.
I haven‘t tried out the exact circuit, but i‘ve used a Raspberry Pi as a signal generator and it blocked the signal of my smartphone (however if it just jams the signal on a single frequency, most devices will just use another frequency or EDGE/GSM).
I made similar tv jammers in the 70's, got into a lot of trouble as well! this is just a "dirty" square wave oscillator that jams "dc to daylight" like the old spark transmitters, jams all frequencies, but as commented below, limited range.
I built a police radio jammer in a matchbox back in the early 80s using transistors for the oscillator rather than a 555. I tuned it by sitting in the coffee shop by some cops and used a flattened toothpick to adjust the Fq through a hole in the box above the PCB pot until their radio just went dead silent. 555/556/558 are one of the most useful ICs on the market though.
I also built a super bright flashlight with a 555 to switch an LED on and off with 5vdc from the output pin so fast it looked like a solid beam but too fast to burn out the LED.
Good old days.
Please it's not working, it keeps generating 500khz and it doesn't block signals, could you help me plzzzzz
BEAUTIFUL! BRAVO!
I remember having a Nokia phone like that, like, 20 years ago!!!!
Great Project !, Now we need a 3G and 4G LTE version of this jammer. I would totally use one of these to mess with my sister, she always has terrible reception...LOL.

Amazing video! I have one question concerning the PCB: how do you print it like that? I'm new in the electronic world and started learning with Arduino. How do you print both sides like that (one for guidance, the other with conducting material) and how do you get that kinda plastic material with holes for constructing this? Excuse me if my question is to basic! I've subscribed to your channel and sure continue learning from you. Cheers from Argentina!

Why you see this video
A buddy of mine years ago had one he got off Ebay and would love to walk around in a crowd with this in his pocket. Any call within ten feet would freeze up and loose audio or drop.
Was funny, but damn I always told him if someone figures it out you are toast. They don't sell these anymore. The other devices for pranksters was a GPS blocker and an I-phone lookalike that would turn off any TVs. Great for superbowl days. LOL. Not me, I like a laugh, but I like living also.
At least you know the risks. Interfering with radio signals is a federal crime. Upon convicition = getting shafted in prison.
That's very antisocial and if you get caught a criminal offence. If badly designed could also interfere with pacemakers.
Thank for you tutorial 😁😁👍👍👍
To start, that wire is NOT 24 awg wire. being used for the coil. I work with 22 and 24 awg wire every day. It appears more like 16 awg
I'm an electrician and it looks like 14 awg to me.
you are right it more like 16
It's the coaxial core it worked
How significant does the guage of wire determine the amount of inductance of an air-wound coil if all other parameters remain constant?
L= (d^2 * n^2)/(18d+40l)
where:
L is inductance in micro Henrys,
d is coil diameter in inches,
l is coil length in inches, and
n is number of turns.
Thi guy is a liar!!! Not only is the 24 AWG wrong as you say, also the pc board when he shows you how he assembles it you can see there is no resistor for the LED the when he flips it over, oh magic you have the resistor. Also the pcb in his link has a mistake where the led goes... you have to modify it. I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND THESE GUYS!!!
...it also jamms old radio controlled car access. ;)
you make this ?
all my phone arround about 10meters also my 27mhz car toy jamms with this circuit, but isn't take affect with my drone 2.4ghz/5.8ghz
Kadek Sudarwika that's because your drone is using a Wifi frequency, which isn't quite the same thing as a cellular signal
Atze Fatze not in America. We use the 27 MHz band for that here.
Where i got this circuit
Good skills to have for the coming wars.
You would have to within 5 inches to block a phone so if your that close you could simply turn it off
Would the battery last longer with the switch connected to +9V rather than to ground?
3:15 What is a 220 E Resistor
it looks like you have a resistor RED, RED, BROWN, GOLD which is 220 Ohm (5% Tolerance) it could be silver, i can't tell , in which case 10% Tolerance,
but what's the "E" For ?
This is just "." or Ohm, Morze code use "." how "E"
5E6=5R6=5.6Ω
56E=56R=56Ω
560E=560R=560Ω
So this is the device used by the monsters/ killers in horror and thriller movies.
Model
Yup
to increase range you would need a Q2 with a bit more power, you could also reduce the value of R4 slightly to increase range, but if you go to low it will burn the transistor
And can i do that how to increase range at least around my house.
where did you learn this any books you can recommend me ?
@@goran-is6zr you should study electromagnetic waves to learn this stuff but its generally common sense to get more efficiency you should get a high output for any electronic device. in this case resistor protects some of the elements in the circuits while loads the circuit a bit which causes range to decrease. you can start learning with basic circuit theory and electronic devices like transistors, diodes, op amps and so on, after that study electromagnetic field&wave theory in order to comperhend the basic logic of antennas.

he jammered his own phone at 2 inch distance ,, wonderful
I think if you turned a hair dryer on that close to that phone the signal would be blocked.
elvis316 ha!!! You beat me to that!!!! So true!!!!
For real??
A hairdryer is basically a fan (aka a motor with blades) and a heating element. The motor uses coils to rotate, which emits a fluctuating magnetic field. If you're close enough, the magnetic field will overpower the signal, but only on the frequencies it emits ( that would be the rpm of the motor * the number of poles of the motor, and multiples of this frequency, plus probably the 50 or 60 hz from the power grid)

Would love some theory on operation. Also, 24 gauge is telephone or breadboard wire, much smaller; this looks like about 16, and is there clearcoat on them? the adjacent turns are touching.
All the copper wire is enamled. The VCO oscillates on the same freq as the phone, thus jamming the signal. You need to add rf power amplifier for range over 1 meter
Every smart dad that is fed off of his wife will install it in the whole house
Very good thanks.
The oscillator works at 2.5 MHz true?
It is interesting that it disturbs the receiver even though it works on GHz frequencies.
lol
No, the maximum frequency of the ne555 is around 500kHz, but the electromagnetic field can still disturb the cell phone signal, I think
Yeah I never really understood this, is it a frequency multiplier? Or is it that the higher harmonics from this specific oscillator creates noise for the base band of 2/3/4G signals?
IMO the oscillator is L1/L2 and varcap 30pf, the NE555 only excites this oscillator from time to time, its own frequency doesn't matter
Perhaps the fact of being a square signal allows some of its components in high frequency to generate interference. You have to do FFT with an oscilloscope.
One with a 20 foot range should be a standard piece of equipment for every motorcycle.

I think most of us miss the whole point of videos like this. This video was designed to give you an understanding of how jammers work and the parts needed. The content providers can't give you long-range jammer demonstrations or how to because he would get in trouble with the law. It's up to you if you would like to build on what this channel has provided by researching how to get a more extended range.

With an NE555’s speed of 500khz , how would this interfere with cellphone frequencies? (Serious question)
I would like to know too
Not 100% one this, but if you look at the circuit diagram, on the right side with the transistor, this is setup like a frequency amplifier circuit, so this could drive the standard frequency of the 555 to a frequency that would interfere with a standard cell phone signal. Also as a side note, the unit is running off of a 9V battery, so the unit wouldn't have that much power to drive out of the antenna to have that great of a range (saw someone else comment that the range of this unit, after they built it, was about 5 inches). Hope this helps!
