    • @stuco81
      @stuco81 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @Syst3M D3Cod3s A timing belt is designed to be replaced multiple times as part of a cars ongoing, regular maintenance. A timing chain is not. The fact that the job was done by a 'specialist' (guessing as it's a JLR specific engine, not a Ford one as someone intimated in another comment, that it was a Jaguar specialist) is also going to put the price up.

    • @stuco81
      @stuco81 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @Syst3M D3Cod3s it's not a ford engine though is it... . As stated multiple times in the video and written on the top engine to help you out, it's an Ingenium. Which is a JLR developed engine and nothing to do with the Ford/PSA engines used previously.

    Recycling cars such as this makes such good sense. It saves natural resources, reduces carbon footprint, makes the recycler some profit, and employs people to do the work. And the profit can be used to recycle another vehicle. It really is an all round win!

    Never been a diesel fan so would never buy this XE but 2 years ago I bought the 3.0S. Man, what a car !!. 335 bhp Supercharged V6 , 4.9 seconds to 60 and nearly 40 mpg on a steady motorway run. Mine is an ex dealer demonstrator so has the full options list thrown at it.
    It is faster, more refined and handles better than my son’s E46 M3 and is more economical and faster than my old x308 XJR ( which I do miss for the v8 burble) . This S is a rare sight on our local roads (North East Scotland) and is generally a bit ‘under the radar’ especially as it’s unfortunately not made anymore. Very rarely see another one on the road.
    Car hasn’t missed a beat in the 2 years I’ve owned it and is a hoot to drive every day. Would have another one in a heartbeat !

    Excellent turn around there Matt, funny thing is most people put Jaguars in a ‘premium’ category but to be honest they don’t appear to be any better than any other regular car. I’ve just bought a 2021 top of the range Kia Sportage and have been blown away by the quality. Think I’ll stick with Korean stuff now, even if they might be a bit ‘boring’.

    What a difference!
    I had a ‘17 XE 20d Prestige back a couple of years ago that got t-boned in the same location. More extensive damage there, as I’m sure you can imagine, and the work ended up coming in a tick shy of $10K USD. Because of our the high spec, perfectly maintained condition, the 40,000 miles, and our highly inflated values, it was still worth doing the work, so their insurance took care of it and I drove it for a time more.
    I traded the car a few months later (nothing wrong, I’d just stumbled into a great opportunity) and more recently picked up an XF 20d Prestige.
    Despite the XF being far better equipped than my already loaded XE (we don’t get Portfolio trims for those specific variants here, so both are fully optioned), the XE was definitely the firecracker the XF couldn’t ever dream of being.
    Glad to see one rescued! Enjoy!

    I could not live with that engine. I love Jags but the XE turns me off. I have an XF 3.0ltr petrol V6 on an 08 and at 114000 miles I had to have the gearbox totally rebuilt at £5000, it was serviced at 85000 miles, and it wasn't right even then. I was pulling it out of the Jag specialist I use and the gearbox broke entirely. Having now fallen out of love with that car I hit Autotrader and found an XJ late 2012 portfolio with 16000 miles on it for £18,900. I've put a deposit down and I'm seeing it in 2 days. As for the XF either the gearbox will he completely fixed in which case I can sell the cat for about £6,500 or I get my £5000 back and sell the car for £1500. I cannot wait to see this XJ though, if it's as good as it should be then I'm buying there and then.

    Nice video. I've had my 2017 XE Prestige 2.0d for over 5 years now. Leased it at first, but then bought it out after 3 years because the car was just so reliable and cheap to run. Interesting note about that timing chain, though. Right now mine has only about 40 K miles (66K kilometres here in Canada), so I think I've probably got another few years before I need to worry about that.

    Here in Portugal, car prices are ridiculously expensive. You wouldn't get a sorted 2016 Jaguar XE with similar mileage for less than 20,000€. As a Brit, it's the worst place I've ever seen for second hand car prices. They don't even allow the general public to buy cars at an auction.

    I've actually had 2 manual Jaguar XJ6 3.2 and they are rockets. Both I did 190K miles before changing them. The 3.2 with Jetrag gearbox was the same setup as the Aston Martin DB7. They really perform. They are now very very rare.
    Normally an XJ6 in automatic form is a bit sedate, but the 3.2 straight 6 engine was bomb proof and with the manual gearbox the car is an animal. Don't knock one until you've tried it . I used mine to travel regularly to Switzerland for my work. Now I have a Jaguar XKR which is excellent with a supercharger, but I sometimes I do pine for a manual gearbox in a Jag. Not sure about a diesel engine though.

I also bought a microfiber cloth so I can remove some layers of dust and fingerprints that begin to pile up. It doesn't take much to keep a car clean.
