Also on Easter Monday there were Thameslink trains running between London Blackfriars and Sevenoaks (via beckenham Junction and Herne Hill) skipping stations on the chatham line.

Good spot! I remember it used to be a limited service line before the Thameslink project came along

Good to know that it is physically possible for Overground trains to travel to London Bridge. Longer term, the problem is Southern Trains’ reluctance to develop services from Crystal Palace, Sydenham, Forest Hill, Honor Oak Park and Brockley. Pre Overground, there were six trains an hour on most of this line, now there are just two. Half hourly services don’t provide any incentive for passengers to ‘turn up and go’, which is essential for any proper urban transport network. As a result, the few remaining Southern Trains on this route are often empty, whilst the more frequent Overground services are often packed - leading to further overcrowding for those changing at Canada Water on to the Jubilee Line.

I sure hope Southern do indeed increase their services as they planned, or else this issue will become worse in the future...

Southern were providing Pilot driving staff on the New Cross Gate - London Bridge Section - with LO taking over at New Cross Gate

At New Cross Gate and New Cross (and Surrey Quays for Peckham etc) there were replacement bus services , though these were not clearly marked nor appeared to be running to the advertised timetable

The train also arrived in the Southern-only platform at New Cross Gate (platform 2) - it would usually arrive in platform 1

I think the Mayor of London should grab any slots that the privatised operators abandon and increase coverage of London Overground, until every service that terminates in Zone 6 or close to Zone 6 is operated by London Overground trains.
However, we do have a strange situation where Central Government and the Mayor of London are from different political parties and MPs working for Central London are being obstructive to the needs of London commuters, because they do not want a Mayor working for the opposition to look good. So I don't think that will be allowed to happen, until we get a general election that aligns the country with the politics of Greater London.
Ideally the trains from London Bridge and other stations that do not stop within or close to Zone 6 (like trains that travel to Brighton) could all be grouped under a new nationalised regional operator that returns to the name Network South East and the counties surrounding London as well as Greater London could be given a new devolved democratic government that owns Network East and that regulates all the busses in South East England (but outside of Greater London).
I think that the people of South East England would easily understand that Network South East is express commuter trains from the surrounding counties, London Overground is short distance commuter trains, London Underground is commuter trains that travel across London.
I also think that the Elizabeth Line, Thameslink and the railway line from East Croydon via Kensington Olympia to Watford Junction should all be given the group branding of "Crossrail" and should all get purple roundels. As people would then understand that "Network South East" was long distance trains into London and "Crossrail" was long distance trains through London.

The overground also goes to Bermondsey (limited service) which is not on the map

    Jubilee line announcement!
The next station is London Bridge. Doors will open on the right hand side. Change for the Northern Line, London Overground and National Rail Services.

Could have done with that Thameslink stopping at New Cross Gate as additional service

Is this service well-communicated in advance, in the event of such engineering works?

I learned this information from an online article a few months back, however it was difficult to find such information through TfL... in the end I had to use Google maps to confirm that the service was indeed running! Hope this helps.

Thanks; yes that does sound par-for-the-course, re: TfL. National Rail app/website would be pretty handy, too, I would imagine.

@@dartricky8689 It's difficult to get TfL to confirm that London Overground runs to Battersea Park, and trains run there every day of the week.
Ideally, TfL will eventually upgrade the London Overground trains to ones with electronic route maps (like the 777 trains in Liverpool have) and the trains can be programmed to store specialist route maps, like ones that go into London Bridge, so that a driver just needs to dial in the right code to get the right information to passengers.
