  • Canon AL-1 QF 35mm film camera with it's super duper ultra hi-tech focus assist (sic) is really useful for ladies and gentlemen with less eyesight than they started out with.
    That's it really.

😂 Really enjoyed the presentation. Love my AE-1. Just got the AL-1. Working my way to the full A series.

Yes loved this little camera back in the day.
My dad gave me it not as a present but to improve my focusing technique as I worked as an assistant photographer in his television company.
I was already using a great camera a Nikon FE but most of my shots were just slightly soft but the AL1 was a game changer!

Thanks for the comment Marc, yes indeed the AL-1 focus system is a real help to me too.

Love the analog stuff,.I’m old enough to remember posting film off waiting weeks and once it came back that excitement on opening the pack with the prints and negatives in....and thinking well 1 good pic out of 26 or what ever I’d cracked it as David Bailey😀. Then with digital came a sort of throw away aspect. I wonder how many deleted pics I would now look back and be glad I had kept like film gives you. Keep up the good work Drew and better times will be here for us all.

Love my Canon AV-1 which is also overlooked as an AE-1 alternative.

Caldera - I agree, I enjoy using my AV-1 - and it doesn't have the battery door problem like AL-1.

Just found your channel, enjoyed the vid & love the name (wish I'd thought of it). Anyway I just got a mint A-1 & I'm in love! I have a mint AL-1 QF in a shopping cart waiting to pull the trigger after some research, this helped. I have to say I'm afraid to purchase it due to the price, so much cheaper than the others. Thanks for posting. Mike

Thanks Mike, and I hope the AL-1 QF lives up to expectations! I still enjoy the process of using mine for sure.

I’ve liked the sarcastic humor in the beginning very much 🤣.
And of course also the short review. Next time the results?

It's great to see you bak in the saddle brother. Black n whites rules in any format. My AE-1 is reaching the end of its life. May have to take a look at the AL.
Same. I have an FE with 12 shots, a K1000 with 7 and almost a full roll on the AE. Lord knows whats on them.

      rudedog34 - hey thanks, yep B+W is my go-to.
AL-1 has proved to be a nice camera to use for me - and relatively under appreciated = cheap...
Have fun developing those films, I love that part!.

Greetings, my son. To a smoking old fart from a very old smoking fart, I assume you do your own film processing and not Boots or Max wotsaname. Frankly couldn't be arsed with film anymore, but really like the ide of your angle finder for low shots so might get myself one for my old Nikons as can't get down low on my haunches these days.
Like you said the other day, my Nikons are starting to gather dust from non-use during these depressing times. However, your priceless offerings are always welcome, so jeep 'em coming, mate.

Hello Brian my ol' mucker, ha not smokes - vapes...
Yep I process film at home, that's half the fun for me.
I thoroughly recommend the angle finder - at least for cameras that don't have flippy screens anyway.
