The aesthetics of the video are impossible to really understand for people who know nothing about Germany in the 90s.
Back in the late 80s and early 90s the German coal and steel industries went belly up and hundreds of thousands of working class dudes who had thought they would be working in those industries like their fathers and grandfathers had, found themselves without much perspective.
That kind of created a whole generation of "peaked in high school"-type dudes who couldn't let go of their youth in the 80s and were still running around like that (mullets, handlebar mustaches aso.) till way into the 90s, long after that had stopped being fashionable.
So in the 90s (when the guys in that band were kids) you had all those 30 to 40 year old, beer guzzling working class blokes hanging around techno rave parties and dance clubs, looking like time travelers from the 80s and trying to pick up chicks half their age.
That is what this song and the video are making fun of and that is why it makes sense that the video mixes tropes from the 80s and 90s (Boy Band music, techno, aso.) and why the dudes look like from the 80s while the chick looks like a 90s raver girl.
Ah and one other piece of explanation: The dancing people at the end of the video are a bunch of bigger German TH-camrs who are friends with the band.
Thank you for providing this info. So I caught the influences just not the reasoning for them. It's really cool how videos and music videos in particular are created through the creative process.
Additionally, it's a reference to "Hyper Hyper" by Scooter.
Thank you! Even as a german myself I didn't completely catch those references. I personally know a mullet+mustach and socks-in-sandals guy, who walked around like an 80's cliche into the early 2000's :-D
@@Anuta6675 Yes. those guys were a staple of involuntary German comedy for many decades, I guess you could say. Especially in the 90s there were tons of TV shows and movies making fun of them.
I've not seen this break down anywhere else, thank you! I love the video even more now!
They don't take themselves seriously, but they take the music VERY seriously. "We Got The Moves" should be next. Cheers!
I mean that's perfect. Like I said in the song, they should take the music seriously for sure.
Everybody misses dude in the back standing on the drum kit and POUNDING the symbol like it owes him money.
That shit is so good.
One of my favorite sub-genres of youtube video is people reacting to EC for the first time
Haha. Well there will be much more to come. Loved this song.
Welcome in the Elrctric Callboy rabbithole
I'm so excited for this one.
Awesome and hilarious pretty much sums them up. 😂😊❤
Where are my Pineapple people at? LOL, as soon as you said Psych, it clicked. Nice reaction.
YES! I get the same energy from them!
This is such a great rabbit hole to go down. Totally not my normal ‘type’ of music, but I can’t help smiling while watching them and those hooks stick in my head! I’m glad you enjoyed them!
I'm a fan of Dubstep and metal so this is perfect. And it has a fun vibe. What else do you need?
Only discovered them 4 weeks ago. Now seen them live, got the albums, got ticket for the next concert. Addictive :-D
So much damn fun!
Respekt.,.you go all in it seems....have fun...but that is a given
Electric Callboy is so much fun, their energy is amazing and their videos are always so funny. You should really check out more from them like Spaceman, Tekkno Train, and their cover of Cascada's Everytime we Touch. New subscriber from South Africa 😉🤘
Oh I'm going to go down their rabbit hole for sure.
Welcome to the EC Wormhole! I would recommend every music video and live vid after this one was released. Along with their songs Mc Thunder and Crystals that were done with their previous clean vocalist.
Oh cool. I'm going to dive into them for sure!
Dang I have watched this video so many times and never thought of psych. That's one of my favorites and can't believe I didn't think of that and it does match his energy
100% man. One of my favorite shows of all time.
The guy standing up smashing the cymbal is hilarious every time
I loved that!
Also: EC has about 15 great songs. And all of rhe videos are friggin GENIUS
Just another rabbit hole I'm going to go down.
A big cheer me up vibe, wonderful reaction hypa hypa mega thanks. Electric Ciowboy never disappoints
A new rabbit hole to obsess over.
Not going to be a big info dump, but I'm not sure if they ever did anything dubstep-related per se. They are/were a German Metalcore band from the old industrial city Castrop-Rauxel, formerly known as "Eskimo Callboy" for over a decade before someone asked them to think that name over due to "Eskimo" being considered a slur by some. They then went on a journey, researching that and even interviewing a Danish researcher considered an authority on indigenous peoples from the polar circle and finally decided to change the name.
They always had quite a large influence from European EDM and did a mix of serious and fun songs, but after their former clean vocalist Sushi left the band (his new band Ghøstkid is great too, completely different though) and Nico joined they really leaned into what they call partycore, fusing different genres of EDM to quite heavy metal with heavy breakdowns, sprinkling in some (mostly German) rap as well and generally focussing on fun, catchy tunes with hilarious videos which they produce themselves (one of their guitarists, Pascal Schillo, has a video production company with his brothe fittingly called Schillo Bros) and do Making Of-Videos of the production.
Okay, since I'm really infodumping now:
- Their drummer, David, won a season of the German version of "The Bachelorette". The relationship didn't work out though
- they interacted a lot with the reactor community on TH-cam, uploading reactions to reactions as well as interviews, similar to Ren in a way. Several friendships came from this, including to TankTheTech, who came out of roadie retirement exclusively to join them on their currently ongoing North America tour (oh yeah, their live performances are top class, so if you can get your hands on a ticket still...)
- speaking of TH-camrs, the dancing group at the end of the video are very popular German TH-camrs and Streamers. The central guy is Kalle Koschinsky, who EC also made songs with and who stars in several videos. Also a returning star is HandOfBlood. The dance was a 200k(?) Subscriber Special by Kalle, who is a former dance instructor.
- they tried to represent Germany for the Eurovision Song Contest. Their entry was "Pump it!", one of the must-watches
- General watchlist is "We Got The Moves", "Pump it!", "MC Thunder" 1&2, "Hurrikan", "Crystals", "Hate/Love", "Spaceman", "Everytime we touch"...okay, everything relatively recent and some old songs, really
Infodump over
Considering DubStep was built off of EDM, I guess my comparison was t too off. Dubstep is essentially, EDM with more of a punk or harder undertone.
And I really enjoy bands that befriend reactors as it's a win win relationship.
That's sick that Tank is going on tour with them!
@@mcflyjp yeah, Dubstep is a subgenre of EDM for sure (that I enjoy quite a bit myself), but the 🤓 in me had to go for the small correction. Also kinda so that you don't expect dubstep to come out.
And yeah, it's a great, symbiotic relationship and a good way to connect to the community and build a platform, at least for music in my opinion. Long-form content is a slightly different story though.
And yeah, it's a great story
Electric Callboy is always a good time. You should also check out We Butter The Bread With Butter's cover of Hypa Hypa - it's brilliant!
I'll check it out!
Came for the music reaction…subscribed for the Psych callout hahaha
Eyyy a fellow Psycho!
This was a great song to get ya through the pandemic times
Oh I bet it was!
Do more from this band! You won't regret it! :)
Definitely going down this rabbit hole.
I love this! 😂
Hilarious and fun!
@@mcflyjp yes 😂
My partner don't get the Ren world unfortunately so I gave him these to play with 😂😂 great fun ❤
I get that. My wife doesn’t get the Fascination with Ren either. Not everyone will.
@@mcflyjp yeh it's funny that 🤔 maybe it's to do with our dark side not everyone has deep thoughts in their head? Not sure putting mental health aside he's so talented.. Anyway these guys are good ol cheesy fun 😂😊 with a good ol mosh pit party vibe 🤘🤘
Love the Psych reference, never made the connection (I am huge EC fan, just saw them in Denver yesterday) but agree 100% that irreverent "I may act dumb but am hyper observant" schtick is EC to a tee!! Just a FUN band, happiest musicians on earth. Instant subscribe for reaction.
I appreciate you. Idk why Psych was the first thing I thought of. Just all around goofy fun.
I love Psych! I love Electric Callboy! I love Hypa Hypa!
Sounds like we like the same stuff
1. Psych was. GREAT show.
2. Really watch the video 3 times. Once for the shock value, once for the nuances of the video and once to just hear it all up really hard
Oh don't worry. It's been on repeat since I heard it lol. And Psych is in my top 10. Where it lands there idk, but it's there.
"this is electric callboy with hippa hippa"..
Lol. Hey man at least I fixed it. . . Eventually.
If you would like to react to an artist you might not have heard of before, I recommend Aesthetic Perfection with the song Summer Goth
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into it.
They put out a challenge to other bands to remake this song. There are like 9 different bands that accepted it. These guys are in many of the videos. From country to classical to pop. My favorite is the one from We Butter The Bread With Butter.. it is harder than this one, and the video is a spoof of this one. You should check out all the hypa hypa songs!
Hmmm. I'm going to take on that side quest!

@@mcflyjp to help you with the algorithm im driving most the time when I see reactions you popped on my screen because of ec I just saw them in Arizona and I’m seeing them in Denver. Just FYI you don’t know what you’re in for
Shawn and his personal candy striper, Knick Knack
