People said Bret was bitter. If I lost countless close friends, my parents, two brothers, my career and had a debilitating stroke within a 25 year period, I would feel pretty pissed off at the world too.
85futureshock I think for a long time he held a grudge and held onto negative feelings for too long, and I believe negativity breeds negativity in people's lives, and caused his stroke, but it seems he's a more happier and forgiving person these days
85futureshock That's the whole thing, nobody ever considers what the other person has went through in life. They see others and start talking ish because they feel like they can. And who cares if he's bitter.. it's only hurting him, it has no effect on our daily lives (at least I hope not).
I will always respect Bret. With all the tragedies in his life, I understand why he's seen as bitter. But unlike many others in the business who have retired, Bret makes an effort to show up to wrestling related events and thank his fans these past few years.
I grew up watching the WWF, and both Piper and Hitman were my favorites! Thanks Piper for all the great memories, the world will never be the same without The Hot Rod!!! Both Piper and Bret are legends!
I've met Bret many times--both while he was actively wrestling and after he retired, including today at a wrestling convention. Like the first time I met him at the Wrestlemania X Fan Festival, Bret greeted me with a warm smile and told me that he was glad to see me...he didn't try to "rush through" me, especially with the countless people who wanted to see him. Given what he's gone through with having lost his parents, close friends, brother-in-laws and health issues--the year after this video, he'd undergone surgery for prostate cancer which his brother Smith also had but didn't survive it--to me, Bret has proved to me that yes, like anyone else, he experienced grief, anger, sadness, but he doesn't strike me as being a totally bitter person. He's actually been an inspiration to me in recent years. When Bret said on his Facebook page, "Owen, I thought of you today with a smile," it was actually life-changing for me as I too lost my sister to unnatural causes which was all that I remembered about her. Thanks to Bret's "reminder", I remembered how my sister was a prankster and the funny times we'd had. I don't think that a bitter person could have ever said what I needed to read...no pun intended, but Bret had lifted a huge weight from my heart with those words.
Bret Hart is a legend. Piper is a legend. Most of what passes as wrestling today is a farce hopefully AEW and the NWA can bring back some respectability to the business. The first decent thing AEW has done is already state that they are not hiring any writers! Hopefully it a return to the days of bookers and letting the boys cut their own promos not having to remember a speech written by someone else.
Out of all the legends who would occasionally appear, Piper was the one I always enjoyed the most. Not to mention all the stuff from when I was a kid, and later on in WCW vs Hogan. He just had such a distinctive voice and character that no wrestler today can even come close to.
I agree! I've met him many times and he's proven to be that. I remember him saying in his book, "My father taught us humility, not humiliation;" I can see that in Bret.
Hard to write this down now but I hope Bret will read my words: REAL DEAD IS WHO GOT FORGOTTEN AND ICONS LIKE YOU, OWEN AND RODDY WILL NEVER GET FORGOTTEN!!!!!!!!!!!! I Love you Bret! Thank you!
I feel so sad for Bret, you can tell he is very shaken up talking about his cousin, Roddy Piper. He is the BEST! I will always love and respect the Hitman.
I read Bret's book "My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling" and have met him in person many times both while he was actively wrestling and after he retired. I have no doubt of the toll it takes on him when someone close to him passes away. Bret always had a warm welcoming smile, a handshake and a hug for me whenever we met. Having lost my sister(my only sibling)to unnatural causes in 2002, Bret's saying on Facebook "Owen, today I thought of you with a smile" in May 2015 on his late brother's birthday gave me much needed hope---for once, I started remembering the good times my sister and I shared and how she was a prankster, rather than on what caused her death. I could see in this video that Bret was indeed grieving which would definitely be expected...more recently, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart's death must have really taken quite a toll because Bret couldn't immediately pay tribute--if I'm not mistaken, his exact words were, "Shocked and saddened; I just don't have the words right now." I couldn't blame him, given Jim was his brother-in-law and long time tag team partner and that Jim's death happened suddenly. I tend to think that the media wants immediate answers from people and never consider their feelings. This kind of reminds me of back in 1980, when John Lennon was murdered, the press asked Paul McCartney, "How do you feel?" Yes, Paul said "It's a drag." But if you looked at his facial expression, Paul looked like he'd been punched in the gut and his tone of voice was annoyed like, "How do you EXPECT me to feel?" I have more respect for Bret because he's been an inspiration to me...Rest in peace, Roddy Piper,
Thank you, Brett, for this beautiful tribute to Roddy. I'll never forget how awesome it was to be a wrestling fan as a 14 year old kid, when the first Wrestlemania came out. The eighties was an awesome time to be a wrestling fan. You and Roddy were a big part of that.
this poor broken soul. I never known or heard of someone who has been through so much shit like this man. He is indeed the last of a dying breed. I heard one of the wrestlers from the late eighties and early nineties say that if you are alive today from that era you are considered a hero. its a shame that the ones that are alive barely even get along and remain bitter over things that happened years ago. You would have thought that the countless deaths of losing friends would make them realize that life is to short for bullshit. Hopefully they will wake up one day.
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper defended the Intercontinental Title against Bret Hart at WrestleMania 8 and lost. But it was good that he showed good sportsmanship to Bret after the match was over. Roddy loved Bret's family.
Yeah yeah... even when I was a little kid I knew wrestling was scripted. Still, been a wrestling fan over 50 years. The Hitman was always one of my favorites. So was Roddy Piper.
+georgyfontaine28 Pretty sure i heard Bret say that his stroke may have had something to do with Bill Goldbergs careless style.he for real super kicked Bret in WCW incredibly bad.Led to some major issues with Bret and his retirement i believe.
Good to hear Bret come out to his old theme honestly. Better than his new theme. Good words by him about Piper. As much as anyone wants to shit on Bret, he definitely is one of the most respectful wrestlers ever. Classy
Bret & owne hit hart rules love people are you're great men and women had membership superstars and divas good wwe samckdown raw ecw tna they we're really remember all wrestlers Rest In Peace like others too much memory of them love dear family and friends just because just we love people another the world
So true, I HOPE WWE has something planned cause if this video you shot will be it. Of key comment did you hear Hogan told TMZ Roddy was his best friend. What a piece of dirt knowing damn well they didn't deal with each other than business with wrestling. I've never heard Piper say yeah I was with Hogan the other night it was always guys like Bret and other wrestlers.
Oh stfu. It is well known that they had a mutual respect for him. Why do you think Roddy backed him up on TMZ here recently? Please tell us all more of how you are privy to Roddy and Hogan's personal lives. I hate idiots who spew nonsense. Pretending they know something but are actually wrong. They weren't best friends but theybwere friends. Big fucking deal that he said "best friend." If you are a wrestling fan you shouldn't be hating on Hogan anyway. He put wrestling on the map and ensured that it would still be around today. Stope being a hater who has to cry and bitch about everything. You sound like a bitter ass female. Are you on your period? Put a tampon in and shut up. Moron
I first heard that hot rod rowdy pipper was gone after rondas win in ufc, I have never been this happy and depressed in one night ever, fucking sucks big time!!! HOT ROD IS GONE. I really feel more upset than I should be right now for some reason, im really pissed this time one of my favorite WWE wrestlers is gone,. more than the others that have past for some reason. I am really pissed HOT ROD IS GONE!!!
Got high 5vd by bret on the Thunder Bay Ont house show 1995 after he had to bepeeled off Owen after a no holds barred match. Roddy Vs Bret was a great great match with sportsmanship at the end. Lost art.
Bret came from a serious old school wrestling family and the only reason why he didnt go further in the WWF was he was just that...to serious. They wanted a show stopper, a guy with more charisma and flash, one who could create a riot, and Bret was to suttle for that kind of role.
Yes thats what Bret said before. That tells you what a guy Piper was and Bret never forgot that thats why he was in tears here. I rarely have seen Bret in tears live on screen. I couldn't imagine how hard it must have been for him when Owen passed.

85futureshock Agreed.

I don't care what the "experts" say, Michaels and Flair are nothing compared to Piper and Bret.
Agreed.
Flair was good. Shawn michaels was a bitch who got beaten up by a US female soldier for running his mouth
Bret never injured an opponent
They can't be experts if they think Flair was any good, Flair should've retired back in the 90's
@@theoneanton Bad News Brown claimed that Bret gave him at least one concussion.
Sorry for your loss Bret... I can't believe Rowdy's gone...

The ring announcer may have done that better than anyone since Finkle.
