You don’t need a 10,000 watch unless you’re wealthy. I have several citizen watches and haven’t sent one in for repair. Luxury watch service cost more than the purchase of a citizen or seiko. I’m happy with these pieces
Exactly that, there's plenty of really nice pieces available that are ltd edition and unique or have a good story behind them that you can buy for upto say a grand and just enjoy.
For anyone wondering about the name, while Tsukuyomi is the name of the Moon god. The name Tsuki-Yomi is a play on that word. Tsuki is the Japanese word for moon. Yomi means to read. So the name Tsuki-Yomi literally translates to "moon reader" as well playing on Tsukuyomi.
In the UK: "The MSF radio signal is a dedicated standard-frequency and time broadcast that provides an accurate and reliable source of UK civil time. It is available 24 hours a day across the whole of the UK and beyond. The signal operates on a frequency of 60 kHz and carries a time and date code that can be received and decoded by a wide range of readily-available radio-controlled clocks. The MSF signal is transmitted from Anthorn Radio Station in Cumbria by Babcock International, under contract to NPL. The signal covers the whole of the UK, and can also be received throughout most of northern and western Europe. It is monitored against the national time scale UTC(NPL) and corrected when necessary, ensuring that the transmitted time is always correct." So, six "atomic" radio signal sources.
Real good review here Mikey. It only took me about 2 solid weeks of surfing before I found this watch. I appreciate the information here. I now own one of these Tsuki-Yomi models 🙂
I have this model with the grey face, and I wear it most often if my 38 watches. I absolutely love the bracelet. So, as much as it would look great on a strap, I wouldn't want to take it off the bracelet.
Great review, but its not really complicated. Quick story how and why Citizen makes the best atomic and GPS watches. One of my Citizens was completely off, time, date, and year. I set it to NYC. Performed a command at 2:30 in the morning and after about 11 minutes it received the atomic signal and corrected everything.
@s1dew1nd3r4 If you have a radio controlled watch. Most, if not all will attempt to sync to the atomic clock at 2am. If the 2am sync is unsuccessful, it will try again at 3am. If still unsuccessful it will make a final attempt at 4am. The reason that they are programmed at those hours is because there less interference at those hours.
For a very long time, I desperately wanted an AT no-wind moonphase, but even a year ago there were none available, nowhere, at all... so I got the Citizen AT chrono which was in s/steel but otherwise had everything but the moonphase. Great watch btw - apart from the tiny-wrist strap which I had to change straight away. . When I saw the Tsuki-Yomi had come out, I was excited and slightly miffed at it not being available when I went shopping last year -- but I thought, sod it, I'm getting one. Spent a while reading the blurb, looking at the pretty pictures - I liked the red AND the blue... and, er, the pale one too. eenie meeny miney.... decided. Got the blue one about 3 months ago. Came in a different box - ridiculously huge and heavy mdf thing, with hinges 'n' stuff. Would be ideal as a monitor stand or to keep a pet rat in. It arrived at new moon, so I couldn't see the display for a couple of days. It was worth the wait. It's so comfortable I have to check to see if I'm wearing it. It's easy to read, extremely reliable and accurate and it's fairly twat-proof for day-to-day wear though it needs some sweating over the (electronic only) manual to do any setting, which isn't exactly intuitive. It's also a bit of a conversation piece - Look at my watch or I'll.... (insert something persuasive) "Ooh look! The time according to The Atomic Clock will be four twenty and thirty seven seconds... NOW!" However... I live in some sort of Citizen black hole of some sort.... nowhere in the house will a Citizen watch sync. I have a couple of wall clocks which DO sync, flawlessly, no matter where they are put. The watches, however, will not, even if stuck in a window and aligned with a compass or lined up with a Citizen radio amplifier/booster. That's a bit of a disappointment.... as was the price, which in the U.K. was a LOT more than our reviewer's bargain. Apart from the bumped-up price and the fact it will only sync in the pub, I love it to bits. Thrilled, me.
Incredible review of your experience! “Box big enough for a pet rat” and “Twat-proof” are both things I’ll have to work into the vernacular. I had a bit of trouble with syncing in the beginning and was able to find an app called Radio Wave Sync. It lets you pick your preferred atomic clock and replicates the signal. My watch synced to that within a couple minutes… after that, it synced every night. It was like I had to prove to it that it could sync while in the house. 🤷♂️
Thanks very much for the accolade and the heads up. I have more vernacular to inflict on my unwary public - watch this space :-) I just had a looksie for the app, but got, "The item you’ve requested is not currently available in the UK store." Thanks again Apple. I'm actually on Android and had a quick rummage around their play store. I found one similar, but it requires money - fair enough - but it only syncs with your phone, not the hadron collider or the Metalunan Interociter. Thanks for the inspiration though. I'll keep looking.@@MikeyTown13
Back in t'eighties and early naughties, Apple produced the best hardware and software this side of a Kray... but then they decided to abandon their professional userbase completely, dumbed down all the excellent productivity side and moved - exclusively - into marketing fashion accessories. Made 'em a lot of money, lost them all their integrity. I used to be a proper little Apple fangirl -- now I loathe and detest the sick little spivs. nb. I tried the Android app (on the Chrono, not the Lunatic) but it doesn't want to work for me, even after running all night. I'll try again tonight. I'll be back.......@@MikeyTown13
Enjoy! I’m still loving this thing! You hear that, Citizen? I sold one for you. You have to send me something else to review now, right? Is that not the deal? 😂
Great Review, trying to find just the right watch as a Birthday early Christmas present gift for my son, this is absolutely it! Ordered this morning directly from Citizen.
I've got a seiko coutura that closely resembles this without the moonphase. I have to manually set it when time changes fwd & back. & it has to be set to the correct time such as eastern or pacific. Other wise it will not adjust to the radio spinal. The second hand stops randomly & doors not move. Right now it's stuck on 14 seconds. This moonphase by citizen is beautiful! My only delima is if i want the gray moon dial or blue!
I had to change the battery in one of my eco-drive watches. It was over ten years old. The only problem is my local shop had to send it out to get done, and it was a bit pricey.

Any idea why the red version shows a black casing around the dial but others show a matching titanium? Reference citizen website , shows black , and helzberg diamonds shows otherwise
I’m not sure, but I would defer to the Citizen website. From the looks of it, they went with a black bezel on the red dial version. This video seems to support that: th-cam.com/video/OYqlVkKS9Xw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JMuAZtbWi-2W8qr0

I have really been liking it too. Need to mention that it does also come is a blood moon (which exists) and a blue moon (which does not exist). I really like the red moon. The legibility is better that the white moon.

Great review! I have 6.5-inch wrist so it may not wear as nice as on your wrist but I would try this at a shop anyway. Just FYI, your pronunciation is absolutely fine ;) Some Shinto shrines pronounce tsukuyomi (moon god) as tsuki-yomi (literally, moon reading), so I suppose the watch has double meanings. Hope you'll enjoy the watch for long.
Thank you! I thought I butchered it. 😂 Like you said, it’s worth a try on, but those end links won’t do a 6.5” wrist any favors. Thanks for the added info. “Moon reading” makes complete sense… I couldn’t find that translation.

It looks incredible and i would have bought one if it were in 316 st steel. I wish manufacturers would come clean about grade 2 titanium. It is not as strong as 316L or 904L stainless Steel, nor as scratch resistant. It has the same corrosion resistance as 316 but less than 904. The only advantage of grade 2 titanium is the lightness, which i don't like anyway! If i were to get a titanium watch, it would be a Ball, as they use grade 5 titanium, which is full thanos mode.
Big difference measured size vs how watches look… a lot of it has to do with dial size vs case size. That 41mm B&R can look bigger than a 42mm-43mm watch that has a steel bezel and a smaller dial. So much talk about the spare mm in the online watch world. In real life, it’s best to try it on and see how it feels.
Tick vs. sweep second hands? The tick is reassuring, the sweep is luxurious. Choosing one is a matter of familiarity and personal taste. Well, unless the ticking is audible past an inch.
Yes, the literal meaning of Tsuku-Yomi is “the moon reader”/“the calendar teller”. He is the symbol of the moon😊 Citizen’s Attesa line is a premium sub-brand that offers higher quality watches than the basic lines. Some advanced technologies are also limited to Attesa line such as this Lura Program or Satellite Wave GPS. Unfortunately Citizen limits Attesa line exclusively in Japan, then they put these advanced technologies and Attesa design in basic lines when selling oversees. These oversee models don’t carry “Attesa” name on them and have lower qualities and less refined designs but cheaper. This is a confusing approach, also hurts Attesa and Citizen’s branding power in my opinion. So when people see JDM Attesa watch reviews, many often say how these watches are overpriced bc the basic lines imitating Attesa designs have made people can’t tell the differences.
That is definitely confusing. We have some Atessa models in the U.S. and I figured the price premium came from materials or limited editions, but was never really sure. Thanks for laying this out!
Must have been a pre-Christmas sale… ore it was a mistake they fixed. Still the cheapest price around, though. Under $700 for everything this watch offers is a pretty great value (IMO).
I don’t think that’s true… pretty sure there was a green dial variant that was specifically not available in the US. Plus there’s plenty of them on Chrono24. Doesn’t seem like a hard watch to acquire. Where are you located?
True… I was having a little trouble finding a good spot in the house to receive the signal and was able to find an app for my phone that emulates it. That worked surprisingly well.
The text on the dial or the movement itself? If you’re talking about the text, I agree… would much rather see the date window at 3:00. The movement itself is so convenient, especially when combined with the Atomic clock connectivity, that I think that was the right move.
I refuse to pay more than a thousand for a watch. Technology regarding not just power source and movement but also materials has caught up to and surpassed the old elite expensive luxurious watches. A Rolex or insert whatever expensive watch is easily beat out but numerous sub $1,000 watches in today’s market. Now if you’re buying the more so expensive high end watches for namesake, artistry, or something just admit that and I’m fine with.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for educating and sharing the meaning of the name of the... I am from a Shinto mother my mother is from Japan... I really appreciate your research... The Japanese move in alignment with nature.... I've been waiting for this watch to come out for the past 4 years... Envisioning it for the last 4... And now it has come into manifestation... Long live the sun goddess❤
1) 😂 2) It's a horological novelty, since no watch ever was able to show the correct moon phase over an indefinite timespan. So there is a real market potential (at least for werewolves, who as you might know, lives in permanent fear of being transformed suddenly ;-)
i hope that they make a matching Amaterasu watch and sell as a kit with a nice case (the sister of tsukuyomi, she is also the sun god) and they could put the sun as the dial
Fair enough… price is so subjective that it’s impossible to assess value for anyone other than yourself. I feel like got a good value, but that’s just me. 🤷♂️
I just learned that Citizen is supplying their “Super Titanium” to ispace inc, who is using it in parts of the landing gear on a lunar lander they are developing. Not gonna lie… that little tidbit doubled the cool factor of this watch for me.
Either you intentionally rambled on and on just to give yourself more ad time, (likely), or you just love to hear yourself talk. Either way, it was obvious to me you were just wasting time and I was out after 5 minutes of your dribble.
You don’t need a 10,000 watch unless you’re wealthy. I have several citizen watches and haven’t sent one in for repair. Luxury watch service cost more than the purchase of a citizen or seiko. I’m happy with these pieces

That 41mm B&R can look bigger than a 42mm-43mm watch that has a steel bezel and a smaller dial.
So much talk about the spare mm in the online watch world. In real life, it’s best to try it on and see how it feels.
will the atomic clock in China broadcast throughout the SEA?
I have no idea. I love watches, but don’t know a ton about atomic clock signal strength.
Now we need a Sun goddess watch
Tick vs. sweep second hands? The tick is reassuring, the sweep is luxurious. Choosing one is a matter of familiarity and personal taste. Well, unless the ticking is audible past an inch.
Love that mentality! And loud ticking is OK… but only in a Swatch. 😂
They should make the smaller version of this
As someone with an 8” wrist, I think they nailed it. 😉
I agree 100000000%
Not fair only available for Large
Suppose available for 36mm or 37mm up to 40
Yes, the literal meaning of Tsuku-Yomi is “the moon reader”/“the calendar teller”. He is the symbol of the moon😊
Citizen’s Attesa line is a premium sub-brand that offers higher quality watches than the basic lines.
Japanese designs are are the best
I bought this one and the limited Attesa gold also. The Attesa is much more beautiful. But the normal one is my daily watch.
Additional: I love the automatic moon phase. That is a new chapter for watches
It really is a great everyday wear!
Citizen watch is nice and have good functions easy to understad must say Bravissimo ☆☆☆☆☆
Jared now lists it for 637.50.
Must have been a pre-Christmas sale… ore it was a mistake they fixed. Still the cheapest price around, though.
Under $700 for everything this watch offers is a pretty great value (IMO).
It's a very cool watch. I got mine from Macy's, $625.
There is a atomic clock in the uk.
Yes, but Citizen Watches don't receive the Anthorn radio signal. Multiband 6-Casios do!
You mis UK also have radio tower
Interesting… the Citizen website posts a map and they only list those 5 transmitters. 🤷♂️
Citizen watches don't receive the Anthorn radio signal. Multiband 6-Casios do.
They had me until the case size. 43 mm is too big, unless you are an invicta fan.
I’m not an Invicta fan at all… just have an 8” wrist. Love the way this wears.
I bought one of these today and it wears much more like a 41, looks good on my 16.5cm wrist with no overhang.
That’s great to know!
All I have is my gorilla-sized wrist to go off of. Nice to hear from someone with a more common wrist size on this one.
Sad there is no lume. Moon phase should have super powerful lume.
Naruto fans knew exactly how to pronounce this watch name
I like the idea of the watch. How the lume on the watch?
Not great.
Present, but it’s definitely not a dive watch.
Yeah my Rolan eco-drive watch has weak lume, hope they fix that in the future.
This is only available in US unfortunately 😢
I don’t think that’s true… pretty sure there was a green dial variant that was specifically not available in the US.
Plus there’s plenty of them on Chrono24.
Doesn’t seem like a hard watch to acquire. Where are you located?
Our friends south of the equator cannot get a radio signal.
True… I was having a little trouble finding a good spot in the house to receive the signal and was able to find an app for my phone that emulates it. That worked surprisingly well.
im loving citizen watch they got a good good tech ty japan
ugh they killed it with eco drive
Nice watch. Time to save beer cans.
So happy I could do justice to your culture! ❤️
Designed for men who travel all over the world, and fear werewolves, huge market potential 🤣
1) 😂
2) It's a horological novelty, since no watch ever was able to show the correct moon phase over an indefinite timespan. So there is a real market potential (at least for werewolves, who as you might know, lives in permanent fear of being transformed suddenly ;-)
Don’t forget those who ARE werewolves… I’m sure they’d like to keep track of it, too.
i hope that they make a matching Amaterasu watch and sell as a kit with a nice case (the sister of tsukuyomi, she is also the sun god) and they could put the sun as the dial
That would make for an incredible set!
fallen blue spruce pine
gmts greenwich mean time
old ironsides brine
about 600 euros for anyone wondering
BY1010-57H
$680
Always pays to hunt for a deal!
So you don't like the tic tok of a clock?
Not particularly. 🤷♂️
Square pushers would’ve matched the case better :/
Agreed… that would be a nice change.
It's nice, but too expensive
Fair enough… price is so subjective that it’s impossible to assess value for anyone other than yourself. I feel like got a good value, but that’s just me. 🤷♂️
Seems like I'm always buying another Citizen. Looks expensive. I got a Citizen "Supertitanium" watch a few months ago, it's super light.
I just learned that Citizen is supplying their “Super Titanium” to ispace inc, who is using it in parts of the landing gear on a lunar lander they are developing.
Not gonna lie… that little tidbit doubled the cool factor of this watch for me.
@@MikeyTown13 Very cool. They are so comfortable on the wrist that it's almost ridiculous, hehe.
Either you intentionally rambled on and on just to give yourself more ad time, (likely), or you just love to hear yourself talk. Either way, it was obvious to me you were just wasting time and I was out after 5 minutes of your dribble.
And you chose to stick around and waste more of your valuable time typing this?
Strange… hope you have a great day, though!
