Hi all, reminder about my request to watch the commercials before Nigel's videos... let's all help in keeping the Bonsai Zone going... Nigel is one of the greatest people I know - he cares and this is hard to come by these days. He was my mentor in my early bonsai days... always there for me, always willing to help and not expecting anything in return... this is the least I can do now to try to pay him back. I will post this request as a comment after every video he posts... there are 191,000 of us out there. Let's do it together for him and the Bonsai Zone. This is OUR channel as well... Thank you,
Fun fact: Penelope is my bonsai claim to fame - I was house-sitting it for I think 2 weeks or so. Man o man was I ever worried nothing happened to this one while on my watch. It was back in 2010 or so. After it was all done and I realized that the tree was going to be OK I got a bit cocky and told the owner that it looked much better under my care than it did before it came to my garden... beautiful tree. One of a kind, brilliant Nick Lenz's creation...
Havent been so sucked in to a video for a long time thanks for sharing. The trees on the show are all next level! Now i cant wait for spring in South Africa🌲🌳🍁🪴
Those spiral pots, like David's 19:23 and the other one at 36:50, immediately made me think about the Guggenheim Museum in New York. So cool! I like the modern touch on bonsai.
Such beautiful trees! All the different arrangements and styles... So many ideas! I love the trees with Totoro and Kodama figures in them (From movies My neighbour Totoro and Princess Mononoke) 💚💚💚
Fantastic video and array of bonsai trees on display Nigel. Looking forward to part 2 🙏❤️ Those storm clouds - someone must have upset the bonsai gods… 😁
Hi Nigel! Thank you again for documenting the show. A couple of notes on the trees: the flowering ones are mostly quinces, and the two apples (the big one with white flowers and the one on top of the shohin display). Also, you were correct when you said the one next to the spruce in the spiral pot is a privet. Can’t wait for Part 2!
Wow this was amazing! I've never been able to go to a bonsai show in person yet, so this was fantastic. Thank you Nigel for taking us there! I really think Conner has a real artisitic eye for bonsai too. And of course the Serissa and ginseng ficus looked amazing too!
both your trees looks so well put together, the tables, pots and accent plants. nice job! connor has done a great job as well. those purple flowers kinda remind me of wild violets. thank you for bringing us along nigel.
All nice trees, but I am suprised that very few have nicely developed roots like your serissa. It really stands out in this show in that regard. This is my 4th year in bonsai and I am really grateful that I learnt about the importance of rootwork from you, Nigel!
You're a storm chaser too!! :) Thank you so very much Nigel! One day I'll get down there! Until then, I very very much appreciate these videos! What gorgeous trees! The rocks you added look great! Connor got a great display in as well! Awe... Fantastic!
The red soil for the Serissa was perfect never knew it’s roots were so wide spread; good contrast. And your ficus microcarpa looks like a green gas cloud spewing, volcano with it’s overflowing cone of roots. It makes me smile. Connor was funny about his flowering “weed” with collected rock accent plant.
Inspired by Nick’s out of the box creativity last year as a first year Novice I bought one that had originally been his - not knowing the impact that tree would have on me now ❤️ Love that last display- When Nigel says ‘that is so cool’ and ‘I’ve never seen something like that before’ . . . I hear you being inspired and won’t be long till you put together something with that inspiration Nigel!
Nigel all those trees are amazing! Fascinating; truly! Can't wait for Part 2! Please allow me to say that Connor's little flowering plant is called "Cymbalaria muralis". It is native to central and western Mediterranean region, (Spain, Portugal, Italy the coastal areas of Croatia etc.) but has been widely introduced to many parts of the world, including Canada. I am from Greece and though it is not a native plant, because of our close proximity with its natural habitat, it grows here as well. In fact I have a big rectangular clay pot that is "filled" with a lush bush and countless little purple/white flowers!!!
It also looks like "Saponaria ocymoides", which is called in English "SoapWort Rock" or in French "Saponaire des rochers". 🙂 Edit: after verifications, I think you might be right, although some soapwort can look similar, but the flowers ressemble more of the Cymbalaria Muralis. Thanks 😊
Hey Nigel I wasn't able to make it to the show. I slept in and then had family things going on. It sucks I missed it. Everyone's trees look great. Your Presentation turned out amazing. Thanks again for letting me be part of it. We will talk soon and get a stand started for your larch forest. Thanks for sharing it with all of us who were able to be there
Haven't heard of Nick before but wow his trees are beautiful. I find it so sad that the tree has outlived him, I do hope they continue how he would have liked though.
@@TheBonsaiZone I need to look at his work now I have come across him from yours and Blue Jay Bonsai's video. Absolutely incredible but so sad to hear of his passing and the trees carrying on. I know the trees carrying on should be a positive thing but there's something about it that's sad, maybe it's that he will never see the final product I'm not so sure 😔
26:55 That is "Totoro" from the Japanese animated move "My Neighbor Totoro" by the way. In the movie it lives in a big camphor tree :) I think it's a beautiful movie. I can surely recommend watching it!
Wow! Obviously not even near this realm but I had Bonsai on the brain this weekend and considered making another attempt (aka another victim) because I so miss the process and art of it; the garden centre beckoned. I had no idea this was happening in my home town this weekend...sad to have missed it but very happy you were able to share this video with us. Impressive and inspiring...thank you.
@@TheBonsaiZone Thank you Nigel. You know, we Bonsai people have those we follow and when something happens out of the ordinary we notice it. Thank you again...and keep your videos coming. I've watched almost all of yours...and you have helped me greatly in my journey of tackling bonsai.
'Penelope' ! My favorite bonsai book can never now be signed by the author! . .I'm abig Nick Lenz fan! I only hope th meet Dan Robinson, yet. He signed my book for the sale, but he's not young. . . I have met a few other famous contemporaries, thanks to the privilege of our local club's affiliation to the noted Jim Doyle. Don't forget, though, that I'm also a Bonsai Zone fan!
Nice trees, but didn’t see any tropicals, I wonder if they are looked down upon by the bonsai community…. To be fair I skipped forward a bit, without watching everything…

And let's share his efforts among our friends and family. Nigel is such a honest and pure human 🌸
Let's make our Bonsai Zone family 200k member. 🌸
Plant shows and exhibitions are always great and fun to participate in.
Thank you for all your commentary and additional insights Nigel! 🙏👍
Wow I can't get over how cool those rocks are. Just the woodwork alone is gorgeous.
Can't wait for part 2, so very inspirational, Thanks Nigel
Thanks Jonathan, I hope to get to your place soon!!!!
That larch clump is amazing. Wait,,, there’re all amazing. A humbling experience. Thanks, keep growing
Yes, it just keeps getting better every time I see it!!!

Nice to think you have contributed to the development of Penelope!! Not many people can say that!!!
@@TheBonsaiZone I just did not kill it!
Thank you Nigel for taking us along, very nice commentary. The wind storm look very scary. hope everything is well.
My trees survived, but many of the member's trees got blown off the benches. Power was out for a couple of days in some areas.
Thank you for sharing Sir Nigel 🙏🏿
Conners tree was amazing!
It was!!!
Absolutely amazing trees Nigel! Your trees look fabulous, and Nick's trees, rest his soul, are lovely.
Thanks for sharing this event with us!

Thanks Lisa, it's so nice seeing a bonsai show again!!!
My favorite was the clump style larch at 30:47 it is just amazing with the smaller trunks going almost horizontal through the moss
Yes, a very refined and beautiful tree!!!!
Havent been so sucked in to a video for a long time thanks for sharing. The trees on the show are all next level! Now i cant wait for spring in South Africa🌲🌳🍁🪴
Nice narration Nigel. You really brought me into the show. Thanks
Thanks Matt, glad you enjoyed the video!
I like the "simple" and traditional pines and junipers, but oh my the flowering trees look gorgeous, too! Over all great show :)
Thanks so much!
What a beautiful show!
Fantastic to watch your video with your comments adding to the experience
. Thank you so much Nigel.
Glad you enjoyed it Joe!!
Those spiral pots, like David's 19:23 and the other one at 36:50, immediately made me think about the Guggenheim Museum in New York. So cool! I like the modern touch on bonsai.
Yes, they have that feeling to them for sure!!!
I love how your trees have come together. Just beautiful. Also well done to the owners of the other trees on display. Truly amazing.
Thank you so much Birgitte!!!
Thank you, Nigel!

Fantastic video and array of bonsai trees on display Nigel. Looking forward to part 2 🙏❤️
Those storm clouds - someone must have upset the bonsai gods… 😁
Yes, the bonsai gods need sacrifices every now and then!!! They got plenty that day.
I am sure I must have killed enough trees to appease them 😆
loved this event, first time experience, some of the best bonsai trees i've ever seen. Bought a mugo and eastern white pine tree,, great time!
Great to hear uhhh!

Some amazing trees Nigel. I think your Serisa turned out great. I love the rocks behind the zebra.
Thanks Elizabeth, a fun weekend!!
Some nice trees. Your display is as good as any of them, well done Nigel.

Thanks James, now the show is over and it's back to working on the trees!!!
am i the only one always head banging like a heavy metal show when i listen to the Bonsai Zone Outro cymbals ?
Nice, that's the way to do it!!!
seeing those apple trees made me excited for my own. mind you the just got out of their seeds not long ago 🤣
Awesome!

The storm did a lot of damage to some areas with lots of power outages, I'm glad you enjoyed the show!
@@TheBonsaiZone Oh damage is not good at all. That was a crazy storm. Even tornado warnings.
now I want to play with polymer clay to make bases for flat bottmed stones. enjoying the storm and the show! thank you!
Cool Diana, these stones all had carved wooden bases, amazing!
Fabulous all around.
Thanks J!

Nice video sending support here
I was shocked at how affordable the sale trees were. Everything had far more potential for a lot less money than a typical nursery.
Yes, an added bonus of joining the club, you get early access to the best trees!!
These will no doubt be enthusiasts and hobbyist trees without the overheads of a business, hence they can sell them more inexpensively.
Could not get to the show due to family commitment. Enjoyed the video. Thanks Nigel.

These are beautiful trees! I think that the accent plant you and Connor were wondering about is SoapWort Rock.
Thanks, good to know!!!
love it.
Thanks Charles!!!
that cool that the volunteers get to pick frist then the rest.
Yes, a good incentive to volunteer too!!
Amazing
Thanks Mike!!!

I'm not sure what you mean, the tree species?

Great bonsai show. Thanks for the video. May I suggest you use a small gimbal for your camera for shows like this? :)
Great suggestion!
Hello. Can someone tell me what a viewing stone is. I have never heard from them.
The storm blew half of my trees over. One had no soil left.
Sorry to hear that, I hope you can get everything restored to normal!!
