You gotta do MG3 next to finish off the trilogy. After that I would suggest love music 1,2,3 and 4. Maybe in one hit. Like an hour long video. You could spend hours breaking down all the doubles and flows just from 2-3 minutes of Ren. But we have Knox for the complex breakdowns. We just like your honest reactions. I’ve watched a lot of reactors and to be honest I don’t normally subscribe but I have to you two so you must be doing something right. There is *so much* in this video, and this was a really good reaction. One of the things that floors me continually is the way Ren has taken the Rules and found a way to remove the damage he talks about... He engages with his videos and reactors (influencers, product placement, featured prime time entertainment) instead of exploiting them (hello, lack of copyright claims). He is making a business of his music, but not selling out his morals (Sick Boi Merch) because he's doing it with a team of friends he shares ideals with--like ethics. And he's doing all these things in a way to help other people *rise with him*. And he encourages others to do the same (waves to all the Renegades) A rising tide lifts all ships.
Ren has also said that in many ways he is a hypocrite (we ALL are) as we all play a part in this old money game, we all watch those ads, we all buy that 'rare' iPhone for $1000+, we all in some way feed the system! Ren just punches us all in the face to expose that we are all complicit and take part in one way or another
I think the “rarer than a diamond” line is another hidden layer. Diamonds are one of the most common gemstones, but people THINK they’re rare and a must have. A perfect example of what he’s talking about in this song.
And the De Beers managed to introduce the diamond engagement ring as a tradition, almost as if it'd been there the whole time. There's nothing traditional about it, at least not until the advertising campaign achieved its goals anyway.

Indeed. It's the small and medium size business's which contribute most to the economy of the nation. They employ people, provide essential products, (or even not so essential, but maybe life enhancing). It gives the business owner a feeling of empowerment and gives working people a sense of pride in their lives. The USA is not the only country which encourages entrepreneurship. Most of the "old school" countries of Europe and the East have the best quality goods.:)
I don't think he's necessarily pointing out the morally corrupt corporations, rather the moral zeitgeist of our society which prioritizes growth and profit over truth (fair value/fair cost) morality and community. Doesn't matter if you start a business or you're a small business, the "general" mindset is if you're successful, you grow, you expand, you do more and spread more, never questioning why or how or for what ends, and at every step cutting out more quality for the sake of "efficiency" and "profits".
I venture to say the most important thing he mentions in this song, is that we need to point the mirror at ourselves, because we are all a part of this money game. For example, I work for a company that sells aviation tech, which contributes to the military industrial complex very directly, as these items get sold to military and contractors all the time. You two lovely lads, are part of it in the sense that you're creating content, directly trying to exploit a population of people for monetary gain, not saying there's anything wrong with it, that's just the game. With subs, likes, algorithm appeasing, you play your own game that ties into every other game if you think about it. Like, you're making content, to help people distract themselves from the reality of their contributions to the money game, and it goes into many other things beyond that. But, everything is subject to change.
Ren is always adding easter eggs in songs. Its fun to go back and listen to them again after youve heard a bunch of them and find them 😂 he even adds them to his new stuff. "So tongue in cheek with my tongue in your cheek" from the halftime retake was a callback to an older song from him 😂💜💜 yall are gonna love part 3, its one of his masterpieces alongside hi ren 😁

You hit the nail on the head. Ren has said before that he is not anti capitalism as it sparks innovatiion. There are pros and cons to all economic systems. Governments corrupt these systems for greed & power. The people are left with the breadcrumbs. Here in the US, it is so much harder to get a leg up than it used to be. The spread of wealth has widened so much that it's much harder for the to get a leg up without generational wealth. We're not as much the land of opportunity as we used to be.
And government (this goes not just America) is controlled by the rich and big corp, and it benefits them not to protect their own wealth but also protect the wealth divide. Much of big business specifically targets the poor and disadvantaged. They need the poor to remain poor to keep themselves rich
It's not just economic. And with things like education. The educated do not want the less educated becoming educated. Because then they become a threat Those are the top ensure that there are levels in quality of education and don't want to change that because then they're own position is threatened (But it also comes back to economics again, because big business needs the less-educated to exist, because that's their source of cheaper labour)

They were all released during the pandemic lockdown in the UK. I believe that Ren created them all himself during that time with the biggest clue being the spelling errors within them. Not rehearsed as some major reactors who , on their very first listen, miraculously pick up every bar AND understand all the UK references that you just wouldn't know if your from the US. The Money Game is about greed (amongst other things). When you trade parts of your humanity away specifically for the purpose of amassing money, that's a problem. There are ethical rich folks, too. I think Ren specifically isn't talking about any individual person or figurehead, the listener has to fill that part in. 👍🏻

Ren gave us a short history lesson in part 1. Here’s the economics class. It takes a very clever and flexible mind to break down complex subjects in ways that everyone can understand them. And then to use a well known nursery rhyme to do it? In the form of rap?! Ren is a genius 😅
What I love about this trilogy is that Ren just puts the facts on the table and lets us draw our own conclusions. If nothing else it gets us talking about the money game. If enough of us talk about it, maybe... just maybe we'll find a better way to do things.

It is interesting to read your comment. I am french and have many friends in the US and european countries. I absolutely concur. When I was a teenager (I am now 55), the USA were the country we were all looking up to. Now it is a country where many of us would not live in at any cost. It has become obvious along the years that the american society is highly dysfunctional (not that we are perfect, far from it). Crazy working hours, no vacation, no maternity leave, no legal definition of full time, no healthcare, unaffordable housing in many cities, unaffordable education, disgusting food (sorry but that is true), bigotry everywhere, brutal cops, mass shootings, crazy consumption, educational failure, religious nuts all around, open racism, denial of science (OMG your antivaxxers.....)... I could go endlessly on that list. It is sad. The USA used to be a great country, now it just looks pathetic. Not to mention that Trump was elected. How is it that nobody dares saying this dude is a retard (can't read more than 10 lines, has the vocabulary of a 10th grader, is rude and attracted to lovely blokes such as Kim Jong Un or Putin). What you describe, in the beginning, about the media/the show, this is something a French philosopher called Baudrillard wrote about it. He called it hyperreality. Check it out if you’re interested. I’m pretty sure the spelling mistakes are completely intentional and are hidden Easter eggs themselves. You see “Featured” spelt “Featrued” which contains the subliminal word “true” just after it’s talked about “product placement” which is a subliminal way of getting you to buy stuff. Later he spells truth “Turth” just as he’s talking about distorting the truth with “the truth is overrated” Another subtle reference is the “who wants to be a millionaire” image which showed the UK version with someone called Charles Ingram who “won” £1M by cheating. It was discovered and he was found guilty, along with his wife and a friend who helped him cheat. Netflix made a documentary about it.

Just about 2 min. in and can't help but comment on your break down at that point; I'm reminded of 1999 and my "expanding my musical influences", as a metal head... maybe it was Sound Bombing 2 (J-rock and Babu), not quite sure, but I recall a line where they noted "the News is just a t.v. show. I always interpreted that the 10 steps that he gave at the end was more of a step by step as to “Win” the money game. Not so much that he was directing the song towards a single individual or demographic. I feel that this song almost acts as a cautionary tale rather than a call out post.
Awesome that you caught from "Hi Ren" when he says "Ren mate, we've heard it all before, oh she sells sea shells on the seashore", is also a call back to this song. That line actually has 3 different connections including the call back. This is one my favorites from Ren, it's simply brilliant in it's structure and how he effectively breaks down capitalism. Something Ren is NOT a fan of...and with good reason. Not a perfect system by any means, but the best we've come up with so far, even with all it's inherent evils. Even Ren acknowledges this, wer'e ALL a guilty party in the money game. He said as much in "Sick Boi".
The Money Game... The creator invests in the product, creates it, makes it and then sells it The wholesaler buys it, stores it and then sells it to the retailer. The retailer sells it to the consumer. The game ends... but the story continues. The creator, sells the product to the wholesaler for $1 The wholesaler sells the product to the retailer for $5 The retailer sells the product to the consumer for $10 The game ends... but the story continues. The creator spends 80c to make that $1 making 20c profit The wholesaler spends $1.80 to buy and store the product making $3.20 profit The retailer spends £5.80 to buy and store the product making £4.20 profit And that is the Money Game... The game Ren rails against, isn't people making money or using their abilities to get ahead, he rails against the excess profits made of the backs of those people who create the products that others greed abuse's for wealth... In the ideal world those profits would be reversed, the creator would make most of the profit and the retailer the least, but that isn't how the Money game works in our current society... Yes the numbers are generic, and there will always be industries where the splits will be closer or further apart, but the result is the same, those people highest up the food chain will always make the money at the cost of the labour of those below them.

You hit the nail on the head. Ren has said before that he is not anti capitalism as it sparks innovatiion. There are pros and cons to all economic systems. Governments corrupt these systems for greed & power. The people are left with the breadcrumbs. Here in the US, it is so much harder to get a leg up than it used to be. The spread of wealth has widened so much that it's much harder for the to get a leg up without generational wealth. We're not as much the land of opportunity as we used to be.

They were all released during the pandemic lockdown in the UK. I believe that Ren created them all himself during that time with the biggest clue being the spelling errors within them. Ren has admitted that he isn’t good at spelling.

Also, the "rarer than a diamond" line is a reference to the fact that diamonds aren't actually rare. The seashells are an analogy for many products. But the De Beers diamond industry literally does this with diamonds. They control the availability in order to artificially inflate their value. And it was their ads back in the early 1900s that established the idea that a "three month salary" is how much you should pay for an engagement ring.
Not to mention the recent "chocolate" diamond craze.
These were diamonds that they used to throw away, or use for industrial purposes. Because they are the most abundant and impure diamonds. But they used "marketing" to make them seem like they were special.

The Money Game is about greed (amongst other things). When you trade parts of your humanity away specifically for the purpose of amassing money, that's a problem. There are ethical rich folks, too. I think Ren specifically isn't talking about any individual person or figurehead, the listener has to fill that part in. 👍🏻

Ren gave us a short history lesson in part 1. Here’s the economics class. It takes a very clever and flexible mind to break down complex subjects in ways that everyone can understand them. And then to use a well known nursery rhyme to do it? In the form of rap?! Ren is a genius 😅
What I love about this trilogy is that Ren just puts the facts on the table and lets us draw our own conclusions. If nothing else it gets us talking about the money game. If enough of us talk about it, maybe... just maybe we'll find a better way to do things.

It is interesting to read your comment. I am french and have many friends in the US and european countries. I absolutely concur. When I was a teenager (I am now 55), the USA were the country we were all looking up to. Now it is a country where many of us would not live in at any cost. It has become obvious along the years that the american society is highly dysfunctional (not that we are perfect, far from it). Crazy working hours, no vacation, no maternity leave, no legal definition of full time, no healthcare, unaffordable housing in many cities, unaffordable education, disgusting food (sorry but that is true), bigotry everywhere, brutal cops, mass shootings, crazy consumption, educational failure, religious nuts all around, open racism, denial of science (OMG your antivaxxers.....)... I could go endlessly on that list. It is sad. The USA used to be a great country, now it just looks pathetic. Not to mention that Trump was elected. How is it that nobody dares saying this dude is a retard (can't read more than 10 lines, has the vocabulary of a 10th grader, is rude and attracted to lovely blokes such as Kim Jong Un or Putin). Really, this is depressing. I used to envy americans. Now I feel so sorry for them. A Karenland.

Another subtle reference is the “who wants to be a millionaire” image which showed the UK version with someone called Charles Ingram who “won” £1M by cheating. It was discovered and he was found guilty, along with his wife and a friend who helped him cheat. Netflix made a documentary about it.

That line actually has 3 different connections including the call back. This is one my favorites from Ren, it's simply brilliant in it's structure and how he effectively breaks down capitalism. Something Ren is NOT a fan of...and with good reason. Not a perfect system by any means, but the best we've come up with so far, even with all it's inherent evils. Even Ren acknowledges this, wer'e ALL a guilty party in the money game. He said as much in "Sick Boi".

The creator invests in the product, creates it, makes it and then sells it
The wholesaler buys it, stores it and then sells it to the retailer.
The retailer sells it to the consumer.
The game ends... but the story continues.
The creator, sells the product to the wholesaler for $1
The wholesaler sells the product to the retailer for $5
The retailer sells the product to the consumer for $10

The creator spends 80c to make that $1 making 20c profit
The wholesaler spends $1.80 to buy and store the product making $3.20 profit

And that is the Money Game...
The game Ren rails against, isn't people making money or using their abilities to get ahead, he rails against the excess profits made of the backs of those people who create the products that others greed abuse's for wealth... In the ideal world those profits would be reversed, the creator would make most of the profit and the retailer the least, but that isn't how the Money game works in our current society...
Yes the numbers are generic, and there will always be industries where the splits will be closer or further apart, but the result is the same, those people highest up the food chain will always make the money at the cost of the labour of those below them.
