The Hunger, Masochist, Suicide, and Down On the beat reactions are needed for sure! Ren is self taught in like every instrument! Crazy. Knox Hill interview is incredible to watch. That was Knox Hill taking over for Ren on the piano I'm pretty sure as well. Ren has those rings and bracelets as his style so yes that was Ren of course. The man does everything even beatboxes and produce his own beats
@@coleeg69no it’s not Knox on the piano, Knox was there during the rehearsal only and he played the role of the waitress who held the tray with wine glass on it during the rehearsal. I remember Ren said it was a classically trained pianist they hired who took over him on the piano
Y'all should of been around for the actual Money Game Ren had us play prior to the release of this video. It was 7 riddles each one having to do with each of the 7 sins. Each riddle had 2 answers, 2 parts so we needed to solve the 1st one and put the answer in the next day to get the 2nd part. Shit was so sick. Ask folks in here about it I know they played
@@meddle447 Except when they went behind the wheelchair with the quartet in the background. You will notice Ren's mic was on the left lapel of his jacket up to that point, but in the following scene he has to take off the jacket so they moved the mic to under his tie.
Nah, he spiraled when his Dad died because he never did actually get his Dad’s approval that he was constantly striving for. He could never do enough, never be enough.
Exactly! And then it’s too late. I think a lot of adults with a difficult/complicated relationship with their parents feel that way, completely adrift, when their parents pass. Toxic core relationships shape us just as much as healthy ones do, and if one suddenly disappears, it will shake us to our foundation.
Ren has been told for years he looks like Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) He's used to hearing it, He was in LA recently & someone said "Hey do you know who you look like?" & he thought here it comes, But the man said "You look like that Ren Dude" Ren hopes one day someone will tell Cillian Murphy he looks like Ren!
honestly... Ren is a smokeshow... he's really handsome... I've just kind of noticed it as of recently actually in one of his shorts, I think is when i 1st noticed it when he was going through clips throughout a day in his life. seeing his struggles and how he's been able to stay the course and has overcome so much, coupled with his goofiness is just so endeariing. When you round that out with his humility and ability to show his emotions so freely ... it all makes me like him so much more. OK .. ENDING MY REN RANT lol... that handsome rascal 😉
A full movie in 9 minutes. I think there is nothing wrong in teaching your children to work hard, and giving them everything to help them reach their full potential BUT Jimmy’s father never praised him, which made Jimmy strive for “his daddy’s approval” and that is when greed comes in to play. You should watch the BTS to see the real genius of this. It IS live, and the one break was simply because the logistics involved with the rain they could only film that once, mics had to be moved and covered etc. great discussion lads, I really enjoyed this.
this video is physically acting out the money Game. From mg1: "turns a saint into a sinner; A child into a killer "(the story told in the video), "the whole world turns as the whole world burns"(the spinning globe), rain, rain rain rain rain actually falling. Etc... this is live with one hidden cut (going black behind the wheelchair) so the lapel mic can be moved to the tie and he can remove the jacket before soaking himself. The Wolf Johnson BTS is worth watching but not really suited to a reaction because of the length. it will give great insight into the process of Ren's process for doing a one take video. One of the BTS videos is around 40 minutes (shows a very stripped down version with not a lot of details) and a second BTS video that is 2+ hours (by popular demand of us Renegades❤) I recommend the longer video❤
Also, it's the lack of approval from his Dad, the "never good enough to get dad's approval" that causes him to make more and more risky choices so he can be number one in the money Game (not even second place...just a servant...) sends him down the spiral ❤
th-cam.com/video/HIjF5g5eDDU/w-d-xo.html long but very informative. You can always skip the beginning of Wolf's journey to the UK and get to the making of the video also Knox Hill was there as well :)
Wrong, It's live and there's only one cut, just before the string quartet is shown and it's Ren who's playing the piano at the beginning. The Wolf Johnson made a 2 1/2 hour behind the scenes documentary of the making of Money Game part 3. Here's my quick my breakdown including info I got from the BTS and interviews Ren and Samuel gave after it dropped. Part 3: Is Ren's magnum opus, once again returning to his one shot live performance format with Samuel Perry-Falvey behind the lens, but this time on a grander scale then anything they've attempted to date. Ren has even stated that this video in scale & technicality was his most ambitious project yet. Ren wraps up this trilogy telling us the life story of a single fictional character named "Jimmy" who was raised from birth in the money game mentality & therefore tightening the focus even more on the MG. Instead of just singing the hook "Point the mirror at ourselves, we're all part of this old money game" he chooses to bring the mirror to life & show us through the life of Jimmy's & everyone around him who have their own money bags tied around there heads, exactly where the pursuit of the MG leads. 🤯🤯 Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber shared Money Game 3 on his Instagram and said Ren is one of the best storytellers he has seen in a very long time. Film maker Jonathan Hiller was blown away by the story, as well as the cinematography & choreography Ren & Sam created. By the end of the video Jonathan say's "This is the genius of Ren, by the end of the video his art transcends into a spiritual realm. Ren's use of negative space is captivating making MG3 utterly transformative". Cheers boys. 🍻
Only Ren could get the the “rain rain rain rain” line into the video without words, how does just one guy with just a grand piano and a string quartet can reduce a 3 hour movie into 9 minutes and make it so unbelievably good. Ren is a true master of his art
As a father of 2 already grown ups I can confirm toddlers are into "mine, mine gimme" by nature, it´s on us parents to give them the social skills to overcome that natural demeaner. By the way Ren was playing the intro himself...which is by the way - an adapted variation - of the opening of a classical piano piece by the Norwegian classical composer Edvard Grieg "piano concerto in A minor"...beautifully adapted, performed and in his track integrated as a kick off by Ren. The video is a live performance in 2 "one takes" 1. one take = from start till he sits in the wheel chair and the camera is surrounding the wheel chair till the camera is behind the wheel chair" 2. one take = from behind the wheelchair till to the end. the "silver spoon" is a double for his up bringing and for = "chasing the dragon" = code phrase for "heroin consumption" since the 60ties = because as that analogy works = "heros(as code for hero -in addicts) are obsessively chasing dragons in the fairytales" and "heroin addicts obsessively chasing the next shot "...besides that "dragons" are also a very common omnipresent mythological theme in the far East of Asia where Heroin is produced and from where it is imported and from that perspective "the dragon" is the code for "heroin" )...so that code phrase "chasing the dragon" is actually a double as well for 2 analogies. The gun was a functioning replica and he had 2 magazines 1 with blanks in the gun and the other empty one which you then saw him loading with actual bullets. The exchange took place twice out of the picture frame 1. after he took the magazine with blanks out of the gun in exchange for the empty one while he was holding the gun up 2. exchange back to the blanks directly right before he put it into the gun again also while he was holding the gun up. A guy standing right beside the camera interacted with Ren there twice beneath the picture frame.
It's actually a triple, as in the UK we have a saying that goes "he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth". It's not a literal meaning but it is used to indicate those that are born privileged as only a certain social set and standing could afford a precious metal such as silver. Mainly the landed gentry or those with titles etc.
@@BenBallard13 That´s exactly what I meant with saying "for his up bringing"..So it´s just a double I might better should had written "his priviledged up bringing" instead...Sorry for implying that misunderstanding
@@johnwilliams9914 That´s "heroin consumption", isn´t it. It really doesn´t matter "how you consume it"...if snorting heroin powder (which can be done with a small silverspoon by the way you don´t have to build a line for snorting through a tube just saying..that thing it´s a real tiny custom built spoon for nostrils but actually made for the - fancy use - of snuff tobacco which is then misused for cocain powder + heroin powder) or shooting heroin or inhaling the fumes of heroin through a tube that all is "chasing the dragon"
Regarding the gun, they do an off camera clip swap. He loads a real clip, and then as the camera pans up he does a swap for the empty clip Theres a big behind the scenes film which goes into a lot of depth on the making of it (short version and a movie length extended version) 38 minute version th-cam.com/video/CdEFYPef7RU/w-d-xo.html 2h30 minute version th-cam.com/video/HIjF5g5eDDU/w-d-xo.html Timestamp for the clip swap.. th-cam.com/video/CdEFYPef7RU/w-d-xo.html
The pivotal moment of this song is when Jimmy's dad dies, not because his dad was necessarily his confidante or whatever but because, up to that point, Jimmy has spent his whole life chasing his daddy's approval. Once the dad is dead, that approval is never coming. For the rest of his life, Jimmy only has the memory of his dad's disappointment in him, right up to the end. There's no hope of ever getting dad's approval now, no matter how much money or power Jimmy ever accumulates. If impressing dad and finally having him say he's proud of you is the main driver in your life, imagine how devastating it must be when the possibility of ever getting it goes away forever. From that point on in the story, Jimmy begins to unravel because his main motivation - the only thing he knows - is now rudderless.
LMAO. Jimmy's only 18 at this point, and the twins woke up (the morning of filming), and I see they chose violence. 😂❤ j/k guys, y'all are going in, but make a great example of the conversations Ren's music elicits. Both opinions are valid because you're both your own person. It's good to see people having a *healthy* discussion on differing viewpoints.
you guys should watch the behind the scenes of how this was made, one cut, multiple microphones, recorded live. And I am pretty sure people have told you before, he plays a LOT of instruments very well. 'silver spoon' refers to being born into money in the first place. 'chasing the dragon' refers to getting high. It was a real gun but it was deactivated, they used a clever switch out for the bullets too. again, watch the behind the scenes video. But you guys need to learn! If it's possible he does it live, he does it one take, you need to get over those doubts. In interviews he even shows and talks about how he deals with the level issues.
He' so used to live playing through busking so doing his tracks live is fairly easy for him. Behind the scenes of the making of MG3 by Wolf Johnson th-cam.com/video/HIjF5g5eDDU/w-d-xo.html
It doesn’t only happen to rich people, this happens to ordinary folks as well. Money changes people, it changes relationships and in song, Ren says, “…it’s an exaggerated version of me, you, her, him…” This was Epic, not just “good” because Ren & his crew put everything into MG3. I enjoyed your reaction cuz it made you debate and elaborate your own views. Thanks.
Not necessarily. In the same way it's not actually a one-shot video (because there's a hidden cut partway through) despite giving the illusion of being one continuous shot, they could've easily had someone else wear Ren's rings and play the piano, only subbing Ren in after the camera rolls away for the title. That would've been the perfect way to hide the switcheroo, giving the illusion of Ren being the one on piano. In fact, when I first saw the video, I assumed that's why they rolled the camera away and I thought it was pretty smart. Not saying they did that - I actually do believe it's Ren playing bc I know he plays basically every instrument and is very good at all of them (plus, the hands look very much like his pretty distinctive hand structure) - just saying that the rings aren't necessarily evidence that it was for sure Ren. Ren and Sam use a lot of trickery in their videos to accomplish the final vision. In fact, they're pretty ingenious with the way they use misdirection and create a seemingly seamless experience despite there actually being seams throughout. If they had needed to fake the shot for some reason, they could've easily put the rings on someone else and then swapped in Ren after the camera rolled away. That's what any filmmaker would do.
As a speech-language pathologist specializing in early intervention, I would say Jimmy’s story is a bit of nature and a lot of nurture (more like conditioning). It’s developmentally typical for toddlers to go through a phase where they say "mine" frequently. It's a common part of their language and social development as they learn to assert themselves and understand ownership (18 mos-3yrs). But, Jimmy’s dad tells him that money is the means to all end and continually makes him feel like he’s never enough.
Nope, that's Ren playing the piano, at the beginning, with a bag over his head, lol. Ren plays about a dozen instruments well. Half of them RIDICULOUSLY well! All self-taught! He also composed the music for piano and strings, co-directed the video, arranged the music for this live recording, wrote and performed, brilliantly, those incredible lyrics. They were going for a single take but had to make a single cut, as the 'rain machine' kept malfunctioning. So it's like 2 live one-takes put together, if that makes sense, lol. Of course, he also set up the audio and did all the production. ...and voila! Another Ren masterpiece! :)
You can tell from the gnarly guitar fingers and spinner rings that's Ren playing. (It's an excerpt of a classical piece by Greig). There's one obvious cut but it's still an impressive one shot. It was recorded live, you can see the improved lapel mic, however no doubt patched and tweaked in post production. Very impressive performance, he reminds me of Pacino in Scarface imo.
Guys! Guys! Simmer down, you're BOTH right! Jimmy's first words were MINE, MINE, GIMMIE! This is not normal for a child's first words. Most children's first words are mama or daddy, so Jimmy is definitely showing abnormal and selfish traits off the bat. That being said, his father is throwing fuel on the fire and pushing Jimmy to abandon his morals in favor of monetary gain. So again, you're BOTH right. Quit squabbling and save the debate for the end of the song when you can see the whole picture. We're only 3 minutes into the vid and I had to pause to write this comment. Play nice or I'll haveta separate you! 😆 🤣
Don't sell Ren short! This is live and it's almost a one take - one cut behind the wheelchair according to Ren in a twitch stream due to the water. They didn't have the time to redo it after he gets wet.
We would never sell any artist short, especially one as amazing as Ren. Just observations on the fly, we can be wrong. Just in the moment stuff, loved the video and thanks so much for watching !
To answer the question you 2 posed- I think Jimmy started out as just a kid, as all kids are selfish, but his father reinforced that inherent trait and pushed him to want more...and more...and more. So technically, it's mostly nurture as opposed to nature, but it did start out as human nature.
When it comes to the gun and how it made you nervous if you pay attention when he is loading it and he takes out the clip and you see him set it down on the table if you watch he actually hands it off to the side towards the camera to somebody else and they switched the clip during that time. There's some kind of law wherever they made the video that made them have to do it that way for safety reasons. There's actually a short documentary from somebody famous I believe that makes documentaries and he just happened to be there when they were making that video and it showed them talking about the way they were going to have to do it. And also for the record in the beginning you said you knew it wasn't one cut but you weren't sure if he was singing he was singing as far as I remember and it all was one cut. I believe they did it multiple times but I believe they also did it all in one cut. Which is totally insane and amazing.
This IS one take apart from one break behind wheel chair. In order to move the Mike from lapel to tie and he could only shoot last part once due to wetting the only suit he had. ❤
@@MicheleRaeF Indeed. I was clarifying, "take" is not the same as "shot" Money game is not one take, its one shot. (x2) For example, The Hunger is a "single shot" but its not a"single take" because there were several takes. Same with Chalk outlines, "Single shot" not "single take" Money Game is the same its "single shot" done in two separate "takes", but its not one take, because they took like a dozen takes of the first part. Ren is also very careful to use "one shot" or "single shot" as descriptors not "one take"
It almost one take - one cut because of water. It is Ren on the start playing piano. He compose all of the music but he cant play it all because is too complicated. And yes it is spoon of heroin - "Heating up the silver spoon and then chasing the dragon"
Fun fact, rens suit was custom made so if that rain shot didn't work or missed up that was it. Ruined... the one female playing the Violin got hit a little by the rain and kept her Composure!
Ren says that Jimmy was "heating up a silver spoon and then chasing the dragon." Obviously, the "silver spoon" is a reference to him being rich (as in "born with a silver spoon in your mouth") but it's also a double. "Chasing the dragon" is a slang term from the 1920s that originated with opium users heating up the opium on a spoon and then inhaling the vapor through a bamboo tube. Decades later, the method was adopted by heroin users who didn't want to use needles and the phrase referred to that way of doing heroin (sometimes using tinfoil instead of a spoon, but same idea). And, actually, it's kind of a triple in the song because, in modern times, "chasing the dragon" has come to mean chasing the euphoria of the first time you got high but never being able to reach it again. Heroin users will tell you that the first time feels better than anything you can imagine... but, after that, you can never reach that same level of euphoria again. You spend the rest of your life chasing after that first feeling - "chasing the dragon" - but you can never catch it. In the song, Jimmy turns to heroin (presumably), which he's heating up on his silver spoon (bc he's rich) and inhaling (chasing the dragon), and ends up addicted (chasing the dragon of his first high) in the same way he's become addicted to money and power, chasing his dad's approval, approval he can now never achieve because his dad is dead. It's a deceptively complex little lyric, written with Ren's usual puzzle-like approach to fitting words and ideas together into multi-layered bars.
Once again Ren’s music and videos stir up your discussion……that’s what I love about his work….Ren’s work covers topics that are often overlooked or swept under the carpet…..but subjects we need to talk and think about. This music video is 🔥…..when the strings start to play…..goosebump’s every time. Thanks guys…
All totally live, and done in two shots, one continuous shot up the wheelchair and then another shot from there to the end PS. Best bit is how the globe stops on south america when he spins it.. dem spiinnin' skillz :D
This video has one cut right before the rain starts. Lol I can't wait for you to watch Wolf Johnsons behind the scenes for Money Game 3( its on Rens channel). Wolf is a reactor/poet/videographer that Ren really liked so he flew him to England to do a behind the scenes video. Even if you don't react to it please watch it! Also all his Live takes are immaculately produced by Ren. He goes in and cleans background noise and adjusts vocal and music volume to make it sound amazing! He has talked about cleaning up the live busking videos. He said it's extremely time consuming but his adhd helps lol loved the reaction and much love from TX❤
The gun was a replica 45. They had problems with one of the clips popping out. Ren actually takes the first clip, hands it to the support guy for the cameraman, puts bullets in the 2nd one, then hands that to the support guy to swap it out. All that while still performing and speaking to the camera. The clip he used was the one that would not accidentally pop out of the gun! Ren always leaves us with a controversy for discussion; in the end the gun clicks but does not shoot. Do you believe Jimmy killed himself?
He wanted to please his dad. His dad was the influence and it wasn’t just about money, it was about power, his dad was the driving force. He was always trying to please his dad and he always seemed to fall short of achieving his dad’s approval
The 'masks' are actually money bags. It symbolizes how we are all blind to the evils of money (whether we are or aren't is debatable) and it was Ren playing the piano in the beginning. As for the kid saying, 'Mine! Mine! gimme!' I believe that it was a thing that kids go through naturally and is up to the parents to correct which in Jimmy's case wasn't. His father definitely encouraged that natural instinct most kids develop at that age. Please keep going down the Ren rabbit hole. You have so much to discover still, including his stuff with his former (maybe getting back together) band called the Big Push. Peace.
This is a live audio, the studio version of this, on the Sick Boi album, is distinctly different. There is also a Behind the Scenes documentary by WolfJohnson's youtube channel following the creation this masterpiece.
There's some behind the scenes video that shows how they change the live ammo for a training gun within a second, which is mind blowing giving this was acoustic one take shot. However they found a second to hide this and made it quick. Also funny how mostly Americans react to the trigger discipline when it's supposed to look like live rounds till the end. Great reaction, thanks for the work guys!
There is only one edit, when the camera goes round the back of Ren in the wheel chair. That was done mainly because of the water in the sceen, they had to reposition Ren's Mic and they only had one suit - so effectively they had one go to capture the final sequence. There is a bts video which shows how it was all done. It's by wolf johnson.
No, the bag being removed is not an edit although it looks like it could be. We see it on the BTS as well as what Ren and Sam said that there was only one edit/cut.
@@ukblueeye753 that's not a cut that's just clever camera placement and choreography. The only cut is at the back of the wheelchair when the screen turns black. Sam and Ren have both stated this plus there's a bts of the making of this that is on youtube.
For what it’s worth my take is that his father was the constant toxic presence who, every time Jimmy might have achieved some measure of happiness or contentment, told him he was worthless unless he had ‘more’. Jimmy’s life was lived in a desperate search for his father’s approval and once he died, Jimmy had no reason to live anymore - the abstract notion of more not being enough. So his activities became ever more self-destructive until he went the distance completely a decade later.
Imagine how devastating it would be to spend your life chasing someone's approval and then they die before you get it. From that point on, there's no possibility of ever getting that approval no matter how much you do or acquire. This is why Jimmy starts to unravel after his father's death. His true goal wasn't making money and gaining power; making money and gaining power was the means to an end: getting his dad's approval (whether or not Jimmy consciously realized it). Once the possibility of ever getting that was gone, Jimmy was still on his same trajectory but with no target. From that point on, he just fell apart.
I always wonder what Jimmy's dad was doing all this time. Clearly he was successful enough to put Jimmy in private school, and guide an 18-year-old in how to parley his programming earnings into real wealth. But I can't help thinking that after that point, his dad was coasting on the wealth and prestige Jimmy brought to the family. If Forbes List and counsel to the president doesn't mean that you've won, Dad is much LESS of a winner than Jimmy is. Much more of a loser. Like Britney Spears' dad, maybe Jimmy's dad kept pushing his little cash cow to keep climbing so he could buy Lamborghinis and Rolexes, attend parties with Senators, and look like the kind of success he didn't become on his own before Jimmy was born.
@@serendipitish don’t forget that private schools quite often offer scholarships. If Jimmy’s parents put him through a scholarship then his success and innate intelligence would be more than enough to create even more jealousy and resentment in his father.
Live with one cut, when Ren is in the wheelchair and the camera goes behind his back. I think you guys should just assume that any video Ren does is live and one take. This cut had to be made bc of the rain; they had to move the mic, and Ren only had one suit, so they had to accommodate that too. (BTW.. most kids are ‘mine, mine, gimme’.. but in this case, it was strongly nurtured by the father.)! Good video.. fun to watch you two.
8:00 I'll tell ya what I AM convinced of... is that you guys, as nice and sweet as you are, are squabbling or beefing over something in your day to day... may be something small, may be something big (or I could be completely wrong altogether lol... that is always entirely possible), but there's a different energy in you today.... IDK ... I'm only 8 minutes in... so maybe im just tripping
I really love this comment because you are noticing that although we try our best to react and be in reactor mode, at the core of it all we are just humans . I’m not sure what happened that day, one of us could have had a bad day, maybe we were tired, and yes although we are twins we often disagree as much as we agree hahaha. You get different flavors with us , appreciate you watching and supporting !
Gimme Gimme mine is in all of us as you both were just displaying that and she picked up on that.... wanting to be right or get props from us for your brake downs I can't speak for everyone of course but I will say your fans will like you both and want individual perspectives. Lots of chords in this Symphony we call civilization. Advice based on my hunch Get two red and green laser pointers one for each so you two can communicate off camera with them on the wall. You have something to say green dot stop red flashing... yall make codes. Your smart work it out.
My take : Jimmy's life was really built around seeking his father's approval. No matter how much wealth Jimmy accumulated, it was never good enough for his dad. Notice how the globe, which was spiralling out of control ( just like Jimmy's life ) comes to a complete halt when he receives the news of his father's death ( Jimmy's life had, symbolically died at that precise moment ) .... ultimately, the corruption and immorality ( as well as his consequential life changing disablement ) became too big a weight and so Jimmy took his own life = highlighting the dangers of obsessive greed. This was a masterpiece from beginning to end. The planning and execution is incredible, when Ren falls into the wheelchair without flinching, knowing the " prop " will be in the precise place for him. The references ( well done for spotting the " mirror " reference ) to his previous songs are all there, including the blindness analogy of the money bag over the head - also the ending when Jimmy comes home out of the rain ( RAIN RAIN RAIN symbolising the negative impact of his selfish pursuit ) Coming home out of the rain meaning awakening to the realisation of a wasted life chasing money. Ren is, indeed, a totally unique creative force who's art almost always carries with it a HUGE life lesson. He is, in my opinion, doing God's work through music. Great stuff fella's 🙏
Where are all these edits you're seeing? lol. There's only one in the entire piece! One long continuous shot up until the wheelchair and one long continuous shot from the wheelchair to the end. They were forced to make that edit because the 'rain machine' kept malfunctioning and it was the only realistic option. ...and yes it was recorded live and yes it's Ren playing piano at the beginning! A little less negativity guys, please. He also composed the music for piano and strings, arranged the music, instructed and rehearsed the other musicians, set up all the audio and produced everything, as usual. Oh, and he co-directed the video too. Not forgetting taht he wrote those incredible lyrics and gave an out-of-this-world performance! Face it! Ren's a musical genius! :)
Yup that’s our boy playing the piano (he wrote all the music parts even the strings) After the watching “the making of” I’d have to say that as usual we are LIVE. They only had one chance to get that “rain” scene because he only had the 1 suit so there’s only 1 cut place and that’s when he’s in the wheel chair and the screen goes black. The line was “Heating up a silver spoon and then chasing the dragon” and yes it’s a reference to doing heroin. You heat the silver spoon to melt the drug into the water that that’s what you inject and the high is the chasing the dragon which addicts will chase usually until they die because you can never find that first high feel. It’s what makes it so addictive. (Sorry bout the ramble I looked into it a long time ago because it took my dad when he was 35)
@@kazpwright Thank you. Back when I turned 36 was a hard day for me. I was about a week from delivering my youngest and had a 16yF, a 5yF, an almost 1 year old. I sat alone in the dark realizing I was older than my dad ever got all because of addiction which after he started on his path to it (his maternal grandmother supplying him with alcohol starting around 12-13 so that she’d have someone to drink with there’s a part of me who has always wondered if there was more than that but there’s no one left to ask). I believe some people are genetically predisposed towards addiction so he really never had a chance. He was told if he kept drinking and using that this is what would happen and even that did nothing to discourage him. I think I was like 4-5 the last time I tried to talk to him. We were at the airport in San Francisco (where he lived) and I begged my mom to call him so we went to a pay phone and she dialed. Unfortunately his then Ahole of a girlfriend answered and told me he hated me and never wanted me to call again. I cried about halfway to Sonoma when I fell asleep. Then my mind just filed that one away like our minds tend to do and honestly I hadn’t really thought about it for ages until I started typing this so I’m sorry about the emotional dump.
@@SaraShadowSpirit Wow. Honestly, when DO we ever get a chance to think about all that stuff unless life shines a light on it or, like me, forced to sort stuff out if I wanted to have any chance of long term sobriety. My son's dad took his life at 39. My son was 12. Easier to package those things. Push them down until they demand to be processed. Good to meet you and thank you for sharing. 🧡
Yes, it was Ren playing Piano. Yes it's live, and there is 1 cut (behind the wheelchair) the rest was creative angles and camerawork. As for the one line, it's "Heating up a silver spoon and then chasing the dragon" Yes, it was heroin. Also yes, it's a REAL gun. There's a hand off with the clip off camera, and the guns were decomissioned so they cannot be shot. Connor and the crew went through a lot to be able to get them to use them for the video because guns are highly regulated in the UK. There's a Behind The Scenes on YT for this video.
Great reaction, and suddenly I hear him say 'the voice that you hear when you loosen the nuce of the rope' (hi Ren).... always chills about his lyrics.... hug from a stranger from the Netherlands ❤
If you're not familiar with falling in reverse. I would like to recommend the following songs, last resort reimagened, voices in my head, popular monster, watch the world burn live version (popular monstour) and the drug in me reimagened.
It's breaking the fourth wall. When you see a room through a camera you only see three walls because the fourth is behind the camera. So breaking the fourth wall is acknowledging the existence of the camera.
Definitely true in the modern age; but the phrase goes back to stage plays in a theatre, where you'd see three walls of a set, containing the action of the play, and the fourth wall was implied to be between the stage and the audience. So actors who spoke directly to the people in the seats (or even came down off the stage to bring the action into the crowd) were breaking the fourth wall. The phrase came to films and TV along with many other bits of vocabulary and tradition from live theatre. 😄
I was so impatient to see you react to this FINALLY ❤ really enjoyed your dive down the rabbit hole! You have grabbed my attention with your honesty and humour and glad I stumbled across your reaction to "Hi Ren" which just shows you how Ren brings ppl together with love and support ❤
Bunch of comments guys ! Funny your explanation you guys stopped and analyze it. All I kept doing is saying KEEP WATCHING !! lol.. Pretty accurate You didn't point out what he said just before he stopped and gave his dialogue. How everything was exaggerated versions of him and her and you and me .. And it is true mold will grow until it exhaust all and then dies.. I know you guys would like this one !!
so the part in the beginning about his first words being "gimme" and "mine" are from his parents. in early childhood development, babies learn to speak by mimicing what they hear from their parents, same with actions like walking and eating. most babies will constantly hear the parent referring to themselves or the other parent like "dad is right here" or "do you want mommy?" etc. so they tend to lean toward that. so for him to reference that his first words were "gimme" and "mine", that means he heard it often enough from his parents that it was instilled in him from the beginning. it's also compounded by the fact that his FATHER tells him "now you're a man take all that you can" which shows that his father has always taught him to be greedy and selfish
All Jimmy ever needed, was his father to say "I'm proud of you son" ... but the death of his father removed any chance of ever getting the approval he sought. Hence the slide. We need to be better role models for our kids, especially in a world that tries to sucker us on soul-less materialism and consumerism. We need to be guided towards finding value in ourselves and in those we love. This message hits me hard, like Rens "Dominoes" (another fricken' incredible track BTW) ... but, man, the Money Game series is sheer fricken' art. Just absolute genius!
Yes its LIVE and almost a 1 take. It has 1 cut behind the wheelchair because Ren wanted to do that crazy rain/water shot. Other than that it could had been a 1 complete take. That 45 cal at age 45 hits hard and a BAR!! Ren sang the chrous in the other songs the "Rain Rain rain" but he didn't have to sing it in this part because it's literally raining. See what he did there! Singing a chrous without singing it. Genius!! The 🐐!
Ren excels at creating deep discussions. 😊 The idea of nature vs. nurture is important because we all spend our lives trying to differentiate between wants and needs, and the appropriate ways of meeting them. On one hand, his father is constantly drilling Jimmy, but on the other, Jimmy chooses to chase the approval. When, and how, could Jimmy have made better choices? How much can he/should he be blamed for not making different choices? How are our opinions/answers based on our own individual life experiences? Are we willing to look into our own mirrors to find answers? Deep discussions to be had...
Hey guys, first i like your reaction. As for your question about, was the boy born with that natur or the parents who told him to be so...think about who teached you to talk and walk? In my opinion babys and kids are like blank canvas. It depends on what you like to on it,can turn it to a master piece or the most ugliest paint you ever see.
I do believe that some. Children are born with that genius in them and the more it’s nurtured the more that children can achieve. Yet some kids are taught and treated the exact same and can’t even do the basics. Basically nurtured geniuses will become that prodigy child. But into jimmys case his dad was his undoing never happy making wanting more
Rens line here was ' chasing the dragon ' 'Chasing the dragon' was a later refinement of this form of heroin smoking, originating in or near Hong Kong in the 1950s, and refers to the ingestion of heroin by inhaling the vapours which result when the drug is heated-typically on tin-foil above a flame.
Ooooh yes. I was up early for this one! ❤️ I think you’re both right at the beginning that he was born like this but his father was the driver. Both Nature and Nurture. As people said it was live and there is a cut. One of the violin players ended up getting wet as well but she kept on playing to get the take. It’s the one they used in this video. Thank you for taking us through the Money Game trilogy. Ren might have got us to you but now we’re here for you guys and your reactions. Another brilliant upload, guys 🔥🔥 Much love ❤️ ❤️ PS You know you promised us a break dance video to Ren….. 😊 just saying.❤️
Personally I believe that Great Art is open to interpretation and for me this is a great piece of Art so I appreciated that it opened thought and discussion from you both.
Masterpiece!! I Love all this part of money game but the part where it rains at the end is a fantastic visual representation of the chorus from 1 & 2 & as for the gun there was some camera tricky as the camera pans to the gun they swap clips, theres a full behind the scenes documentary by a youtuber call Wolfe thats worth a watch 👌👊
My favourite reaction you've done so far! If you are interested there is a making of video for money game part 3, really gives alot of insight. I believe it's a live one take still from what I remember. Loved the sibling vibe to this one 😂 reminded me of me and my siblings lol
Money Game 2 is my favorite lyrically but 3 is akin to his "Tales" trilogy and it's on par, performance wise, with "Hi Ren". Ren wrote ALL of the music for 3, including the orchestral parts. He said he practiced quite a bit to get the piano intro right. He also said that this isn't precisely a one take, it has a single cut in it, but it had to do with some logistical and time constraints. He explained it all in his Twitch live stream after the video dropped. He's really proud of this one, and should be. It's another great example of Ren's pure musical ARTISTRY. The greatest sculptures in history were created slowly, persistently, over a long period of time, one small chip at a time. Chip, chip, chipping away. Ren's illness is the marble, his musical artistry is the chisel...and look at the masterpieces he's now created. A modern day musical Michaelangelo forged through fire....and the world is better for it. Had to say it.
UGH!!!! I had a great comment going, and I don't remember it all, then our power went out. SO. Imma do my best... 🤣🤣🤣 Twin Sense is minimal in this one, and I'm so here for it! I believe you're both right, we are molded by our parents, often looking for their approval, but at some point we can choose to make ethical decisions for ourselves, even if our parents want more. I've seen lots of people mention BTS, it really is a great watch. The gun scene is MEANT to make you uncomfortable, though he went through great lengths to make sure everyone was safe.
As many have noted, Ren was playing the piano on the beginning and this was a one shot, i believe he called it because there was one tiny cut. He spoke about it on his twitch account.
Your question of nurture vs nature is interesting given his sale of software as a teenager. I haven't seen anyone mention it, but in order to have developed software that detects weaknesses in cybersecurity protocols, he had to have been a hacker first. Which basically means that he learned that you can earn big bank by breaking the law - which confirms what Jimmy's dad has been teaching him. Yes, that's Ren playing Grieg with the money bag tied by a noose over his head in the beginning. (There are BTS vids of him practicing). It's a live video with live audio. There's 1 cut, during the transition behind the wheelchair before the end. He only had one suit so they only had one chance for the rain sequence, and then matched that footage with the best continuous shot up to that point.
The Petri dish is used also for growing bacteria, if for example a dr take a sample of body fluids or tissue and wants to see if you're infected, then they let that sample to grow in a controlled environment (the Petri dish) where the bacteria wouldn't be able to get out. He said something about the mold growing up and consume itself, because if you let either bacteria or fungus to grow in a controlled and closed environment, at one point it has nothing else to feed on,so it will start to consume itself till its gone
Great chat boyz! I’m in the camp that Jimmy was particularly greed driven even as a baby and Ren seems to allude to this in his delivery of the “gimme” line which is emphasised very strongly. Imao, It’s true we all have neediness from birth but it’s also true that some are more needy than others even before there’s time for conditioning to take effect
It is a live one take right up to the end where there is one edit behind the wheel chair (so not a one take but still all is live) There is a video showing them making this video if you still aren’t convinced. It shows you how they did it ❤ It was Ren on the piano in the opening.
Though this is the final Money Game lesson, it is actually part of a bigger tapestry Ren has woven. The 7 deadly sins is the connection (opening the new album), with "Eden" being the actual finale to the Money Game.
Jimmy was trying to live up to his fathers expectations, which he could never achieve. Hisfather drilled into him that money is everything. Gimme gimmegimme were his first words because the parents showed no restraint. So he strived to make his dad proud. Dragon is a name for heroin. Ren is a genius, in so many areas, but excels best in holding a mirror up to society and making us look into it.
I don't know if someone already mentioned it, but when Ren loads the magazine into the chamber, then the camera focuses downwards on the gun on the table, and he takes the opportunity to change the full magazine for an empty one. When the camera returns to him, it's briefly noticed that the magazine he puts in the gun is empty.
Y'all are both right he was born to be exceptional that's why he walked early and went through school faster ect ... But in that his father is drilling it into his head and basically nurtures that certain life into his child
we thought our MONEY GAME PART 2 was our best reactin/breakdown yet, but we believe that THIS ONE TAKES THE CAKE !! Thank you all so much for the insightful comments, whether it be something we missed, or behind the scenes commentary that explain some of our verbal questions, and even the many easter eggs eluding to other videos and songs, truly blessed to have stumbled upon a healthy and positive community such as " THE RENEGADES ".
MONEY GAME PART 3 was exactly what everyone said it would be....A MASTER PIECE !!
A carefully sculpted and well executed visual presentation, and a hell of a song to match filled with substance, poetry, and emotion. Thanks for the recommendation !!

The Hunger, Masochist, Suicide,
and Down On the beat reactions are needed for sure!
Ren is self taught in like every instrument! Crazy. Knox Hill interview is incredible to watch.
That was Knox Hill taking over for Ren on the piano I'm pretty sure as well.
Ren has those rings and bracelets as his style so yes that was Ren of course. The man does everything even beatboxes and produce his own beats
he said in a making of when the cam was up they switched the mag twice to make up the gun loading so it was empty
@@coleeg69no it’s not Knox on the piano, Knox was there during the rehearsal only and he played the role of the waitress who held the tray with wine glass on it during the rehearsal. I remember Ren said it was a classically trained pianist they hired who took over him on the piano
The pianist who takes over from Ren is a guy called Simon if I remember correctly (either way not knox)
That’s him playing the piano! And yes, it’s live
Watch the lady playing violin after the water wets the set. Her remaining calm is incredible during a one take, bravo
It is a true one take. They only had time to try this shot once.
There is 1 cut (according to Ren) as the camera goes behind Ren in the wheelchair
@@meddle447 Except when they went behind the wheelchair with the quartet in the background. You will notice Ren's mic was on the left lapel of his jacket up to that point, but in the following scene he has to take off the jacket so they moved the mic to under his tie.
@@prestoncorbin5619 they paid for her violin to be restrung. Agreed. What a trooper!
Nah, he spiraled when his Dad died because he never did actually get his Dad’s approval that he was constantly striving for. He could never do enough, never be enough.
Yes
Exactly! And then it’s too late.
I think a lot of adults with a difficult/complicated relationship with their parents feel that way, completely adrift, when their parents pass. Toxic core relationships shape us just as much as healthy ones do, and if one suddenly disappears, it will shake us to our foundation.
Ren has been told for years he looks like Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) He's used to hearing it, He was in LA recently & someone said "Hey do you know who you look like?" & he thought here it comes, But the man said "You look like that Ren Dude" Ren hopes one day someone will tell Cillian Murphy he looks like Ren!
haha yeah he encouraged us to go on his Twitter and tell him he looked like Ren - I remember that lol
I think Ren is much better looking than Cillian Murphy
@@Courtneyp85I do not disagree, at all :)
Will def check it out , thanks Robin!
There is a BTS video by Wolfe Johnson that will clear up any doubts you have about this production
Yup, this is worth watching. May not be the best reaction video material.
1 edit and Ren playing piano and cimposing the music
Ren and Sam won international awards for the music video
Worty watching the behind the scenes
th-cam.com/video/HIjF5g5eDDU/w-d-xo.html long but very informative. You can always skip the beginning of Wolf's journey to the UK and get to the making of the video also Knox Hill was there as well :)
Wolf Johnson.
Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber shared Money Game 3 on his Instagram and said Ren is one of the best storytellers he has seen in a very long time.
That line in mg1 as well ties to Jimmy. "Turns a saint into a sinner, a child into a killer with his finger on the trigger..."
Wow, this is so beautifully said and described. YOU should be a reactor 😀😀
1 in the beggining when the camera spins 2 going behind the wheel chair...
Thanks, I could never figure out the bags, and somehow never made the “money bags” connection.
MG3 may be his most ambitious and even unique but I would consider Hi Ren his magnum opus over this.
Only Ren could get the the “rain rain rain rain” line into the video without words, how does just one guy with just a grand piano and a string quartet can reduce a 3 hour movie into 9 minutes and make it so unbelievably good. Ren is a true master of his art
Go to “For Joe” to see Ren playing the keyboard (again).
He can’t keep disguising himself as human when he keeps making masterpieces on a regular basis
The video is a live performance in 2 "one takes"
1. one take = from start till he sits in the wheel chair and the camera is surrounding the wheel chair till the camera is behind the wheel chair"
2. one take = from behind the wheelchair till to the end.
the "silver spoon" is a double for his up bringing and for = "chasing the dragon" = code phrase for "heroin consumption" since the 60ties = because as that analogy works = "heros(as code for hero -in addicts) are obsessively chasing dragons in the fairytales" and "heroin addicts obsessively chasing the next shot "...besides that "dragons" are also a very common omnipresent mythological theme in the far East of Asia where Heroin is produced and from where it is imported and from that perspective "the dragon" is the code for "heroin" )...so that code phrase "chasing the dragon" is actually a double as well for 2 analogies.
Gracias por la explicación ✌️💚
It's actually a triple, as in the UK we have a saying that goes "he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth". It's not a literal meaning but it is used to indicate those that are born privileged as only a certain social set and standing could afford a precious metal such as silver. Mainly the landed gentry or those with titles etc.
'Chasing the dragon' is also a term used by junkies for snorting heroin fumes through a tube by heating up lines of heroin from a piece of foil.
@@BenBallard13 That´s exactly what I meant with saying "for his up bringing"..So it´s just a double
I might better should had written "his priviledged up bringing" instead...Sorry for implying that misunderstanding
It's Ren playing the first piano piece

Regarding the gun, they do an off camera clip swap. He loads a real clip, and then as the camera pans up he does a swap for the empty clip
Theres a big behind the scenes film which goes into a lot of depth on the making of it (short version and a movie length extended version)

We agree! It’s good to have a civil disagreement and talk it out. It the true human nature in us, and Rens song brought it out! Amazing !
Not only is he playing the piano, but he wrote and composed the music for piano & strings. Great tit for tat between the twins.
you guys should watch the behind the scenes of how this was made, one cut, multiple microphones, recorded live.
Well said. They should definitely watch wolfs Bts. Ren talks about the mics and editing on His Charismatic voice interview.
Thanks.
So Ren wears rings, and is iconic. That’s how you know he’s playing the intro.
Ren was playing the piano.
@@johnplaysgames3120 before he removes the bag there are visible frames before the cut showing that it's him
You can see through the bag and see it's Ren, so I don't understand how anyone has doubt
The only cut is near the end when Ren is in the wheelchair
Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, melodica, piano, and supposedly the cello. Oh, and drums
You boys were funny on this one. Can you say "Sibling Rivalry"? 😂
With a dose of caffeine?
Guys!
😆 🤣
😂😂😂
Don't sell Ren short! This is live and it's almost a one take - one cut behind the wheelchair according to Ren in a twitch stream due to the water. They didn't have the time to redo it after he gets wet.
We would never sell any artist short, especially one as amazing as Ren. Just observations on the fly, we can be wrong. Just in the moment stuff, loved the video and thanks so much for watching !
@@StrawhatDynasty be careful you don’t upset the Ren Fan-sexuals 😂 …. Most appear to have some kind of mental health issues 😱🤷🏻♂️
To answer the question you 2 posed- I think Jimmy started out as just a kid, as all kids are selfish, but his father reinforced that inherent trait and pushed him to want more...and more...and more. So technically, it's mostly nurture as opposed to nature, but it did start out as human nature.
His first words must have been something he heard from his parents.
I agree
At one year old you repeat what you have heard or felt around you.
So no, it's not necessarily human nature. Not every child says "mine, mine, gimme".
One "Shot". it was a lot more than one take
@@davem12dim17 only one cut in the entire video
@@MicheleRaeF Indeed. I was clarifying, "take" is not the same as "shot"
Money game is not one take, its one shot. (x2)
For example, The Hunger is a "single shot" but its not a"single take" because there were several takes. Same with Chalk outlines, "Single shot" not "single take"
Money Game is the same its "single shot" done in two separate "takes", but its not one take, because they took like a dozen takes of the first part.
Ren is also very careful to use "one shot" or "single shot" as descriptors not "one take"
@@davem12dim17 oh my bad I didn't mean to tag you I was just clarifying the original comment.
Heating up a silver spoon and then chasing the dragon..... smoking opiates
I felt he didn't end his life, he ended the madness of chasing something that was detrimental to his life.
Brilliant breakdown, thank you!
He said heating up a silver spoon chasing the dragon. Chasing the dragon means getting high. Heating up the spoon is heroin
All totally live, and done in two shots, one continuous shot up the wheelchair and then another shot from there to the end

That Ren playing the piano!! ❤
He’s great with the piano
You can always tell it's Ren by the rings on his fingers. He never takes them off.
The rain at the end was a physical manifestation of the chorus in the previous money games.
He wanted to please his dad. His dad was the influence and it wasn’t just about money, it was about power, his dad was the driving force. He was always trying to please his dad and he always seemed to fall short of achieving his dad’s approval
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE Ren he is playing the piano and it’s a live only1 cut behind wheelchair .
I reckon when he takes his cloth off the head is another.
Advice based on my hunch
Get two red and green laser pointers one for each so you two can communicate off camera with them on the wall. You have something to say green dot stop red flashing... yall make codes. Your smart work it out.
Brother rivalry, yes, twins experience it too.😂
My take : Jimmy's life was really built around seeking his father's approval.
Ren said himself, the one cut was to allow the string quartet to be put in place.
Love that you have the sibling rivalry and and able to discuss this ..this is a major factor with Ren..he starts conversations.
Ren gets people thinking and asking questions! This is a movie in ten minutes. Just extraordinary. Great discussion guys!
Yup that’s our boy playing the piano (he wrote all the music parts even the strings)
After the watching “the making of” I’d have to say that as usual we are LIVE.
(Sorry bout the ramble I looked into it a long time ago because it took my dad when he was 35)
Sorry for your loss. Your dad was very young... ❤

Excellent guys. Fantastic reaction again. The bigpush next!? 🤣🤞🙌

But into jimmys case his dad was his undoing never happy making wanting more
Rens line here was ' chasing the dragon '
'Chasing the dragon' was a later refinement of this form of heroin smoking, originating in or near Hong Kong in the 1950s, and refers to the ingestion of heroin by inhaling the vapours which result when the drug is heated-typically on tin-foil above a flame.

Ooooh yes. I was up early for this one! ❤️
I think you’re both right at the beginning that he was born like this but his father was the driver. Both Nature and Nurture.
As people said it was live and there is a cut. One of the violin players ended up getting wet as well but she kept on playing to get the take. It’s the one they used in this video.

We will check it out !
My favourite reaction you've done so far! If you are interested there is a making of video for money game part 3, really gives alot of insight. I believe it's a live one take still from what I remember. Loved the sibling vibe to this one 😂 reminded me of me and my siblings lol
Thanks for this !
Ren is the Master of one takes
It was a real gun and then it swapped out when the camera moved slightly up - so he wasn't swinging around a loaded gun.
I have been waiting for this reaction! And I love the banter between the two of you. Keep up the great work!
Great chat boyz!
I’m in the camp that Jimmy was particularly greed driven even as a baby and Ren seems to allude to this in his delivery of the “gimme” line which is emphasised very strongly. Imao,
It’s true we all have neediness from birth but it’s also true that some are more needy than others even before there’s time for conditioning to take effect
It is a live one take right up to the end where there is one edit behind the wheel chair (so not a one take but still all is live) There is a video showing them making this video if you still aren’t convinced. It shows you how they did it ❤
It was Ren on the piano in the opening.
You are the first to point out the relevance of the mirror, which I can remember anyhow 😊
Ren is playing piano first and then Charlie takes over.
Live and Ren playing the piano, obviously its Ren!!
Y'all are both right he was born to be exceptional that's why he walked early and went through school faster ect ... But in that his father is drilling it into his head and basically nurtures that certain life into his child
The gun cartridge was empty when he left the table, the "magic" happened when the camera zoomed in on the gun.
The spiral shifts into overdrive because now he'll never be able to attain the approval that he always chased after from dad...
We’ve all seen the video many times, we don’t need the story explaining but your take on the video 👍😬🙏
