This book really, really needs to be made into a high quality movie; with an excellent producer and director, and top flight actors and actresses it could be the best American movie since 'Goodfellas' (1990). I emphasize though that the movie must be done right, by folks committed to quality! A phenomenal documentary on Iceberg Slim was released few years ago, it's called "Iceberg Slim: Portrait of my Life.'

dule savic It's as if you haven't even watched his special. He brought up the book for a number of reasons, none of them being that it's a model of how to treat women (as property, prostitutes or anything else). It kind of ruins the point to spell it out, but, well, there are a lot of lessons and connections possible through the writings of Iceberg Slim. Mainly it's the exploitative nature of business, especially entertainment and any of the arts as a commercial industry. Dave felt he was no longer able to be a "pimp" in command of his destiny. He was a pro or a trick. That's another insight he saw that needed to be communicated. Johns and pros are the same. Consumers are exploited, just like the talent. And the system will bleed them all (both) down to the last drop. In a way it's old news, Hollywood is exploitative and run by degenerates. Stick around long enough and you can only turn into a degenerate or get used up, or probably both. Fuck yeah, he had to get out. Have you ever seen the film "The Wall" (1982)? Once you see what's going on behind those cold eyes, the world cannot be the same. The cold eyes aren't the devil or Hitler. They are our own eyes. What does Dave want, really? He wants us to not lose the ability to laugh. He also doesn't want people to give in to degenerate attitudes. But that's difficult if people have no frame of reference. The whole world is caught up in the pimp game. And people can only get themselves out, otherwise we get prostituted. Nobody can be saved passively. Roger Waters had a breakdown just like Chappelle. Waters saw the degenerate side of his fans and the Hitler side of himself came out. His only way out was to go through a transformative process, which he then turned into "The Wall" as a double album and a film. Even with as much media came out of that, artwork that has inspired counterculture for decades, it's incomplete, maybe by design or necessity. Maybe because it's about breaking out of the psychological programming, and again, nobody can do that for us. That may be why the conclusion of the Matrix is so disappointing, there's no savior, not on earth. We have to each save ourselves, participate in salvation. A prophet can only bring us to water not make us drink. And when we do, the reality of the ideologies we've consumed will make us throw up. Freedom is the scariest thing. They don't want you to discover that - freedom doesn't mean: comfort, convenience, nice things, luxury, cars, clothes, even property. Freedom has responsibility that only you can/must take. If you are one of the few that discover your true freedom, you still might either go crazy, misuse it to trap and use others, or retreat back to captivity to a warm, comfortable cage. We're all in cages. We're born there and die there. Anyone that gets free finds themselves in a cold place without food or friends. So we strike a compromise. Can't free the body, mind, AND spirit. So only free one of them. If we had anyone walking around with a free body, mind, AND spirit, ANYONE, then it would only spread. Everyone would become like Jesus Christ, and that's no way to run a society, full of enlightened prophets disregarding the systems of exploitation.
@@moopr . Releasing yourself doesn't make you cold in my opinion. Freeing your mind means you see things for what they are. Real friends will stick around, you just have to choose them wisely
his documentary is so great. its crazy how his life change. this dude is intelligent learned from his mistakes. who knows how big of a writer he would have been if he kept going and writing about other stories. have a salad in the bathtub and keep your pimp hand strong playa!
Young Brother, this one the best narrations I've ever heard! Me and my guy listened to all of your recordings. You really brought Iceberg (Richard Beck's) work to life. Young writers should take a page from Beck (forgive the pun). This is gritty, urban fiction but the brother could write. It's brilliant. And you, my brother, should be narrating books for money. Real talk :)
Listen from 10:10 in...He goes on to say, by telling his story if he can save ONE person from this "slime" then it was worth telling the story..Life is brutal to some not pretty to many..Our Creator has a Love that our little human brains Cannot and will not comprehend until He shows us how..And thats soon to come..We lack the wisdom, knowledge and overstanding to judge anyone..Christ lives
Thanks for posting these! I'm working on a project that references Iceberg Slim, so I checked out the documentary about him a few months ago. I was going to buy all the audiobooks to listen to his actual narrative style, but then I saw you posted these. I still plan to buy the audiobooks, but for now I'm making my way through these recordings. Thanks again for sharing!

stop reaching, he was making a point of how the way the game is so cold it led him to leave to south africa using a story from the pimp book as an analogy
Dej Loaf new song opens with this beginning quote from Ice Berg Slim. Thanks for putting me on Coach Khayr aka Black Mack aka Carlin Sexy aka C-note The Wazir Khayr.
Andre 3000 sent me here from Genius. One of the annotations on Spottieottiedopaliscious he mentions these Iceberg Slim tapes. So they wanted to do a song in the same vein.
Just as a warning, the uploader leaves out ten entire chapters from this book since the full version has 22 chapters and this only has twelve. Many of the chapters that are here start in the middle of a chapter or even 3/4 of the way into a chapter, which leaves out a lot of info and ruins such a great book. You will get lost with all of the missing information because the uploader did such a bad job. Altogether, less than half the book is here.
I have read everything Iceberg Slim yet I definitely know that Silky the Guy from Gentleman of Leisure is one of The Greats Gentleman of Leisure, Silky, Returns
People saying Dave brought them here... Do u actually understand what Dave was trying to say?? You think if you listen to this book your going to find out why he went to south africa?? Lol
He's got 5 or 6 books this is the only one I've read I'm sure he missed his loving mentor Sweet Jones. Honestly I'm not about gorilla pimps but to each their own. I believe building a woman up in a mutual way is a lot better way to do things. I guess I just don't have the heart to beat on drug addicted women. Take them off the street get them into school get them clean and have them turning tricks without sex pay your taxes have them learn taxes so you know what to do on them that way your legit and your loved instead of hated and not having to worry about losing everything getting killed and going to jail. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY YOU GET TO HELP SOMEONE INSTEAD OF DESTROY SOMEONE. That's all just my opinion and obviously my broke butt doesn't have it figured out. But I think in this situation it is the best bet his life doesn't sound all that joyful if you read this book. AND ONCE AGAIN A HATER IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN AN ENEMY.

Drew Hunkins Honestly, I'm kinda surprised it hasn't already. But maybe he doesn't want it made into one.
