FORGOT TO MENTION I PURCHASED THIS WITH MY OWN MONEY AND ALSO FORGOT TO MENTION AND THIS IS IMPORTANT that I already had my usual eye primer and base shadow down before each look. I would HIGHLY recommend using a base shadow (powder that matches your skin tone) over top of your primer. This will allow you to blend easier and keep the colours from oxidizing or turning darker. OKAY BYE!

The ONLY time I have ever swirled my brush in an eyeshadow is if it is a dry sheer piece of shit with no pay off, any pigmented shadow you only need to tap. Why people swirl their brush I don't know.

This is one of the best non biased reviews I've watched. Too many "makeup artists" seem like they don't know how to use shadows. I really liked that Sam showed how to use them properly. Great educated review.

This doesn't look that good though for her talent and usual looks..watch her Mod Ren tutorial right after this one and you'll see what I mean...a pallette should not be this difficult for that price point..ingredients don't lie...MAJOR difference in ingredients between this and MR pallette/ABH single shadows I just really wish abh would speak to the difference in ingredients it's nothing to do with how hard it's pressed it's the ingredients
well said, major ingredient change! and that is the main issue, especially that it is 'modern renessaince 2' so you would except tge formula to be the same :/ i'm really disappointed, as i was so excited gor this pallete

Even the person behind this admitted there are faults and urged people to return the palettes if not happy, and for the price why should people keep it, if it were an affordable palette you could make it work but for that price there are better
This is the only review I’ve watched where you zoomed in to the eye and how the shadows blend and work on the eyelid..very helpful. Other girls were zoomed far out asking us viewers if we see how blotchy and inconsistent the matte shadows blend out…like no bitch I can’t see that far away.

In regards to the pallet, I think I'm going to wait it out, just like you said. Norvina and Anastasia take their jobs very seriously, they will fix this. I know they will, they just care so much about their customers and products. In the mean time, I will patiently wait. Thanks Sam!

cflowermakeup I really honestly think some people are being dramatic or are trying to get attention from ABH simply because it is such a different formula from the sister pallete so they want to make an even bigger deal of it.

Gorgeous color! Beautiful palette! I went to purchase it today but it's not at the Ulta stores in the Phoenix east valley yet. Glad I watched your video to get the truth about the palette. I just got this pallet and I am fairly new to makeup and I had no problems. It was quite powdery, but overall the pallet is very nice. I like it a lot.
You use them with so much care and they still start to look muddy and not as well blended as I would expect! And this bright yellow is a complete different color on your lid, even after blending! This is insane!
Btw dying at this intro and the tinfoil hat! This comment is writing my actual ghost.

I don´t know why people talk about talc and mica like they were chemist. Stephanie Nicole, has an amazing review, she explain the difference between those and why the colours "oxidize". Something pretty obvious, but not that obvious for those who gave a bad review.

These are essentially pigment in soft press form. Hence the kickback. I personally love it!

Does anyone else think that maybe since this is described as a grungy palette that maybe this is how it is supposed to preform? To me grunge is a little messy, bold, and smudgy/not perfect, blended, and seamless.

exactly!! I get the point it was trying to make but like... who uses their eyeshadows like that?
I feel like I only swirl the brush when anything hits pan in the middle and it starts collecting on the sides. Or swirling to get something that is super pressed and metallic, most times I just press my brush a bunch if it's that case.

I think this is the only tutorial I've watched about the Subculture palette in which the TH-camr actually pulls it off... I love it.
I dont own the Subculture, but with all I have seen and heard. I feel like the Subculture has a similar formula to Lorac. Lorac shadows have kickback and tend to give you patches when blending. But even then who swirls their brush into the palette? I TOTALLY AGREE ABH SHOULD HAVE EDUCATED THE CONSUMER ABOUT THE DIFFERENT FORMULA BEING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THE MODERN RENAISSANCE. I really liked how you talked about the issues with Subculture.

Lol nooo I have a really big Lorac palette and it has a little kickback but it's nothing like subculture or even modern ren. also it's way more blendable than subculture.

The first review of this pallet that actually makes sense. Girl preach. You said everything I was thinking since the first bad reviews came out.
I totally agree with the fact that ABH should've said beforehand that the formula was different. Calling it MR's "sister" was their mistake. Everyone came in with the mentality that it would be the same formula and everything as MR, just different colors. They should've marketed SC as "completely different" than MR. NOW, they're emphasizing the fact that this palette is "softly pressed" and you just need to "tap" into it. They should've been emphasizing this from the first moment they revealed it. Idk if that makes sense, but that's what I take from this whole situation.

When people I saw how much kickback there was, I still wanted to buy it because I love the colors so much and I dip my brush in the same way you do so I feel like I can work around the kickback. However, what drew me away from buying it was seeing the lack of blendablity, how patchy the shadows were, and the lasting power they had.
I love how your 3 looks are realistic every day makeup looks. I love you you made the point that normal people using a highly pigmented makeup palette wouldn’t “swirl” their brush around, I don’t even do that with my modern renaissance all I know is that I have no need to swirl my brush in because one dip is all I need to get the right amount of product. There is some kick back but hardly any which is the same with most palettes even my morphe palettes lol. Also I like how you pointed out the fact that if you mix some colours together it might turn muddy, I’m pretty sure we all learnt that in pre school it seems a lot of people have forgotten this haha. Finally someone who I agree with!!! These young gurus that dip there brushes innnn and get a lot of pigmentation... honey that's called being pigmented!!! A lot of kick back well maybe not a a lot of binder or just amazing pigmentation... Norvena did a outstanding job. Bravo!!! Not a beginners palette to dip so hard in. Yes getting grays because that's what happens when you dip into two colors opposite of the color wheel. So that being said not for the beginners. Those giving a bad review are obviously beginners or not well educated on this palette.

Norvina said they were going to press the shadows a little bit harder, and she said on Snapchat that they were going through the batches, sooo I'm sure they are going to solve this. Yes, people are having trouble, but I think it's a little bit to over the top. They are working on it so at least what I'm going to do is wait to have some news from the ABH team in regards to what they will do to solve it. Once they share that with us, I'll buy and if I don't like it, i can always return it. That's what you would do with anything you don't like, you return it and then move on. Loved this review by the way!!! Very informative and entertaining!!

The all star line didn't blend out, if you hadn't made that dark "v" over it then you'd still see it. Same with the third look, these don't blend well at all. I understand that error user is the first thought, I have 22 years experience with the cosmetic, hair and beauty industry. I know to change up a heavy hand or light hand and not to swirl a product. This palette is not functioning or performing well for a large number of people. I wish the company would actually address it, how they handle this tells me whether or not to support them anymore. Toofaced lost me after their handling of the 'sweet peach' launch at Christmas. Norvina and her rudeness, the patronizing IG tutorial are not the way to handle the change in formulation and 50/50 chance of having a working palette. I paid for rush shipping to find out my palette oxidizes, doesn't blend and my roxy has a large dent from one use.

Despite all the drama and controversy out there over this palette, You nailed it. All three are great. I'm gonna go play with mine again. I got mine the day abh launched it and have been having a little bit of trouble. Watching youy and some others with similar reviews is motivating. My thing is, I always thought modern renaissance had kickback so I'm not surprised with the subculture palette. If people know that it's pigmented because they sees it WIT THER EYEZ, then WHY are you swirling your brush around and complaining?? I totally agree with you, there' no reason to swirl and dig your brush in a color when they know first off, that it's high quality shadow, and that it has kickback. People 🙄

You're truly a talented artist and I appreciate how genuine you are. I'm no expert on makeup application by no means, I'm learning as I go and I still bought the palette.
