I'm going to do this to my mazda 3 too! AH I CAN"T WAIT!
Yea man just take your time and itll look awesome!
shiet! that looks hella good. i was sceptical at the begining, yea spraycans... not goona end wel, but suprised that it turned out real nice
Haha thanks! Yea i'd never take the risk of spray painting if it weren't something I could peel off if it didn't look good.
oh! you plastidipped it?
I did it without clear coat and after a while it start to come off by itself...I’ll try again ! Good video !
You need more coats then. Mine is still holding up really well and showing no signs of peel. My wheels however have started to peel and its because I didn't apply it thick enough. Give that a try!
I did mine the same way you did it, but the first time I did was really bad, the second was alright but for the third time I had to remove the grill off the bumper to remove the last 2 layers that were unremovable and did it properly. Yours turned out nicer than all the times i've done it haha
Do you put on multiple thin coats or get impatient and do them thick? I tend to have good luck with plastidip. The wheels giving me issues was the first time that happened, but I used a different brand other than plastidip. Never again.
Me and my buddies tried doing a thin layer first before we started to make thicker layers, but on the plastidip spray can it said to do thick layers haha
What’s the long-term verdict on this? Would you do it again?
@@cameronpoole174 I sold this car in 2016 and at that time yes I would have done it again. It held up very well and benefited from a little polishing up every so often.
Does it break off when letting the cat go through a washing hall
@@p.j.8698 No it holds up extremely well.
Can you tell me how you covered it in plastic so we'll? Did you take the trim off, lay and tape the plastic. Than just snap the trim over it?
There's a plastic faceplate in front of the emblem on my 2017 Mazda6, was there not one on your Mazda? And if there was, how did you take it off???
No faceplate on mine. My 2014 had adaptive cruise and emergency braking etc so it had a plate in front of it. That you dont want to remove.
i just purchase this same vehicle but mica grey how many coats of plasti dip to make it jet black and did you use glossify
Is the Mica Grey the brownish looking gray? My first Mazda3 in 2014 was dark grey but can't remember the specific name.
The plasi-dip needs to be applied with at least 5 coats. I didn't use glossifier, just put last coat on heavier. Just be careful it doesn't start to run from being too thick.
I wanted to do this but my 6 is bue and there isn't the contrast to make the griil pop. Looks nice on red and the lighter colors.
Currently doing this to my Mazda 3😁😁😁
You can pop the emblem off just use two different points not to break the clips
I'm likely doing this as well. Did it take just one can of the black to do what you did in the video?
I have the deep crystal blue of this same car. Its almost like black. Will this coating suite for it according to your opinion.
+Rajeevan Pilarath Yea I thinkbit would still look good on the deep blue. I really liked that color when picking mine out. The red was just spec'd how I wanted it and sitting there on the lot :D
I have a jet black cx3 and yes its great
The entire car should be covered in my opinion. Not much overspray control
Worst case scenario the "paint" would wash off after a few weeks. Its a rubber coating, not actual paint.
@@TheAdventureAuto oh so its like stone guard type thing. I will now go ahead and do it to mine. Thanks
I didn't think spraypaint sticks to chrome, has it peeled off yet?
The intake thing has me hesitant... Great Job though brutha! Looks excellent.
Installing an intake? Hesitant for warranty reasons?
yeah intake and exhaust. I guess yours stopped having problems though yes? I.E. smells and things you seemed worried about in the video
Thanks for reminding me of that! I kinda forgot about the odd smell from exhaust. I haven't noticed it in a while!
Do you have video of you peeling the tape away after you sprayed? Did you have overspray on any of the painted/plastic parts other than the chrome or did you tape right up to it? I've found it's hard to get the tape perfect up to it all the way around, wondering if it's easier to overspray and peel back? Have you peeled this off to redo a fresh coat yet or still original spray? Any rock chips or spots? thanks!
I dont have a video of me peeling away the tape. A general rule is to tape about a half inch to an inch from the line youre painting, then peel it back. Itll end with a much better result. I am still on my original coat and have had no issues. No rock chips or fading. My wheels on the otherhand have needed to be redone and are currently peeling.
How long did the coating stay on your wheels?
Did you leave a gap in between the chrome trim and tape when spray painting? Trying to work out how to tape it all before I try myself
Yea I left a very small space. It made it difficult to peel off so I'd recommend leaving like a half inch and spraying enough on to give you a nice edge to peel away.
i wanna do my chrome part of the grill but whats the best way to protect the cracks from getting plastidip inside?
When using plasti-dip, always put tape at least a half inch from the crack. That way when you are done you can peel away the overspray using that half inch part. It'll remove all the paint from the crack and create a nice unseen line back there.
why didn't you show the car at different angles? maybe a walk-around?
how many cans did you use ?
So is it plastidip or paint?
Plastidip. It has held up very well and I could peel it off at any time if I wanted to.
How did you tape the front grill?
HarwinJohn P apply. Tape
yeah i’ve had hella trouble trying to take the front of mine up
What a fucking idiotic question
@@Jesuschristitsjasonbourne3 what a fucking stupid person
i was hoping you'd include the wrapping and peeling process, that seems to be the tedious part. im still hesitant to start on mine.
Taping it off and peeling would have made for an extremely boring video :D
Agree. That’s the most important part. I don’t think it’s possible to get a clean job with the parts on the car vs off
It doesnt pill off? im going to do it in my 3 2020
It didn't peel at all. Held up great!
Does it smell a lot? Does it linger?
I'm going to use Rust-oleum peel coat matte black.
How many spray cans did you use?
I believe I used just one for the front grille.
The Adventure Mazda Thanks, I coated thrice. I assume that's enough.
For the front i believe just one. It was plasti-dip. I didnt have any luck using rustoleum.
what did you use for you spray paint the front grill
Just black plasti-dip
hi, what did u use to mask the rest of the car? and any tips in doing so?
I take a trash bag and open it up to cover large portions of the car. Other than that just painters tape. As long as you keep what you're working on fairly isolated, you don't need to cover up that much beyond that area.
Very nice 😍😍😍👍🏻👍🏻
Hey how long did it last for
Was still going strong when I sold the car a year later.
Looks good but now your lungs are also plastidipped.
resp0nse Yea i know, ill be regretting all this in 20 years. I should have included in my video, "Dont try this at home, kids."
What kind of spray did you use? and how long did you wait between coats?
Nicholas Walters I used black plasti-dip, and waited about 5 minutes between coates.
Thank you. And one more thing, how last has it been since you did it? and do you intend on doing re-coates down the road?
Nicholas Walters It has been 6 months and it still looks as good as the day I sprayed it. I wiped tire shine/trim restorer on it to give it some shine. It also kept it from drying out and fading. The sun hasnt done much damage to it yet. After a few years I suppose itll fade some and Id have to respray.
Thats awesome. This was real helpful. I just bought the 2017 mazda 3 sport and i plan on painting the same parts you did in your video. Im just concerned im going to screw it up. lol.
Looks really nice, yet pretty sure a japanese designer is going for an insta-sepuku after seeing this...
Ciprian Thanks! What does instant sepuku mean?
That probably after watching this video he will kill himself right away
big ups to sharing your projects.... i got a lot to do once i finish paying mine off.. LOL
also how long it last without messing up
On the front end it should last forever. I used to apply tire shine to mine to keep it looking good. Not the spray but the gel type applied with the foam block. Sometimes wheels that are dipped need to be redone after a couple years just because wheels are exposed to more elements and it wears it off
What kind of prep, if any, did you first do to the chrome before painting it?
John Elegant I just sprayed it all with Simple Green and wiped it off. Essentially just made sure it was clean of bugs and dirt.
lol the fucking related videos and subscription are superimposed at the end, which blocks the car
How did you tape the edge between the chrome and the headlight? I have a new CX-5, which is harder to tape I think.
A best practice w this stuff is to tape off about a half inch from the line where the headlight meets the spot youre spraying. Once dry you can peel off headlight and itll peel perfectly at the gap between light and bumper. I hope that helps.
I was very excited to see the results at the end of the video but you have thumbnails placed over the image.
I've made some adjustments to the end screens. I didn't realize I did that, so thanks for letting me know.
When i sprayed the chrome trims and badge, i removed the front bumper and grille and the chrome trims are also detachable, too much work i'd rather do it your way lol
Aaron D Dang yea taking a bumper off doesnt sound fun at all. Did you get it all back in place?
The Adventure Mazda yes i did but also i had to install a fog light drl unit off ijdmtoy anyway but putting it back to place was hell... btw did the exhaust and sri intake did anything different compared to stock?
Aaron D Do you like the jdmtoy lights? Im looking for fogs as a future mod. What do you mean by different??
The Adventure Mazda i got these ones th-cam.com/video/8ZFftRzwuas/w-d-xo.html
what happened to your last Mazda? I'm going to be painting the chrome as well
ZeroColdx911 Sold it to get the new MX-5
TheAdventureMazda I thought you sold the mx5 since we haven't seen it lately. also the Mazda emblem comes out, it's just has a few clips holding it.
and that plastidip can be romoved?
You bet. The best part about using Plasti-dip!
Don't spray, better to use vinyl. Faster, easier.......and you can change your mind! Lol
He's using plastidip you can just peel it off
You can get AIDs if you inhale the fumes. You should wear a mask. Looks great though. Will do on my black GT.
Aww man wanted to see the result :(
Sorry, I was still an amateur filmmaker. I have no idea why I didnt show final product, but I have other videos showing it.
Oooh! Which one? Thanks!!

If you dont want to listen to me talk, just fast forward to 2:20 😁
Anyone know what the name of that bag is that you put over the car?
Theyre a bunch of clear trash bags...
I wanna do this to my Mazda CX 5. I want it murdered. Got he tint done now just to do the chrome
Its so easy and really makes it look good. Im not a fan of chrome. I didnt bother painting the side chrome because it works for the profile.
The Adventure Mazda the window trim is what bothers me the most. I wanna get rid of it all. Emblems, front and side trim, rims. I want it black on black on black. I'm thinking like 5 bottles of plasti dip for it all.
coooooooooooooool
С лаком резина стала темнее 👍
How did you setup the tape
I always put the tape about a quarter inch from the edge of what im painting. It gives you enough space to peel that quarter inch off once complete. You never want to tape it off too vlose because then you wont be able to peel away whats left over.
i dont want to use plastidip
Then any regular black paint can be used.
looks cheap go black gloss
Sorry didn't watch your video because you have two adds l can't skip..
Sorry.
drag to 3:45 thank me later
How many cans did you use?
