QOTD: Spongebob the Musical. It's not really underrated but it's considered juvenile because it's...well... Spongebob. It really pops off but a lot of my theatre friends avoid it, despite my endless reccommendations lol
I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but I listened to about half and I have seen a few videos about why it deserves to be taken seriously. so far I really enjoy the music, and the set design is incredible.
The sponge bob musical had no right to be as good as it is but when ever I want to listen to something that is unapologetically happy and up beat I’ll listen to it
I agree, this show is really underrated. As soon as I listened to the cast recording and watched the television event on Nick, I immediately fell in love with the show. Everything in it is near perfect(scenic design, songs, characters, etc.). I would love for Kat to do a video on Spongebob the Musical because of how underrated the show it is. It deserves to be more recognized as much as the other popular shows.

I have been begging the universe for a Broadway revival (that would eventually tour to L.A) since Operation Desert Storm. I believe a timely staging of the right production can change the world.
Great Comet never gets enough attention because it was on Broadway for such a short time, and when people do talk about it, they always talk about the scandal at the end, not about the beautiful story and music. I saw it twice, and it still remains one of my absolute favorite shows of the decade.
Have you checked out Ghost Quartet? It’s another show by Dave Malloy, and the music is in a similar style, and it’s AMAZING. All of the lack of rhymes, the unusual rhythms, and Britain is in it!

I really wish more people knew about Bare: A pop opera. It’s literally the sweetest but saddest, most complex yet simple musical I’ve ever seen. I didn’t even get halfway through without totally falling in love with all (well most) of the characters and the story is just so capturing I’m so surprised it didn’t make Broadway.

I loooove Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, though I only listened to it after I saw the Wait in the Wings video on it - I love the dark humour and cynicism, and they got the emo music and visual style down so perfectly in a way you wouldn't expect to work with US history but it really does, and I wonder what a revival would be like

Oh my god, I literally jumped when you mentioned Carrie. I absolutely love that show, it’s songs and it’s story are magical! As much as I take joy in people reacting surprisingly when I tell them there’s a Carrie musical, I do wish more people knew about it. It’s incredible.
I would love for Come From Away to become more well known! It is such an emotional rollercoaster, from somber to hilarious in the span of a chorus! More folks should experience it! Also, the way they use minimal stage props and cast, and keep rearranging a bunch of chairs as the predominant set pieces while playing multiple people is really fun to watch! Edit: With next year being the 20th anniversary of 9/11, it is also the perfect time for the show to be more relevant!

Very much in the high-school musical genre, except it's about kids turning... you guessed it... *thirteen.* You might've seen some songs on tiktok, you may know it as BOTH ARIANA GRANDE'S AND ELIZABETH GILLIES'S DEBUTS Songs like "Hey Kendra" and "Bad News" are laugh-out-loud funny, "Terminal Illness" and "Any Minute" are hilarious when you watch them, "Tell Her" and "A Little More Homework" are such happy feel-good songs, "Thirteen" and "Brand New You" absolutely slap, and there are some great audition pieces throughout the show for almost young-adult role you can think of

I really wish more people knew about Bare: A pop opera. It’s literally the sweetest but saddest, most complex yet simple musical I’ve ever seen. I didn’t even get halfway through without totally falling in love with all (well most) of the characters and the story is just so capturing I’m so surprised it didn’t make Broadway.

Honestly I’d say try it. I loved it. I was warned about it, too, but I personally think the soundtrack is really good.
I loooove Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, though I only listened to it after I saw the Wait in the Wings video on it - I love the dark humour and cynicism, and they got the emo music and visual style down so perfectly in a way you wouldn't expect to work with US history but it really does, and I wonder what a revival would be like
I wish more people knew about Urinetown and Loves Labors Lost. they’re my favorite musicals and nobody knows them!

Oh my god, I literally jumped when you mentioned Carrie. I absolutely love that show, it’s songs and it’s story are magical! As much as I take joy in people reacting surprisingly when I tell them there’s a Carrie musical, I do wish more people knew about it. It’s incredible.

I would love for Come From Away to become more well known! It is such an emotional rollercoaster, from somber to hilarious in the span of a chorus! More folks should experience it! Also, the way they use minimal stage props and cast, and keep rearranging a bunch of chairs as the predominant set pieces while playing multiple people is really fun to watch!
Edit: With next year being the 20th anniversary of 9/11, it is also the perfect time for the show to be more relevant!

Very much in the high-school musical genre, except it's about kids turning... you guessed it... *thirteen.* You might've seen some songs on tiktok, you may know it as BOTH ARIANA GRANDE'S AND ELIZABETH GILLIES'S DEBUTS
Songs like "Hey Kendra" and "Bad News" are laugh-out-loud funny, "Terminal Illness" and "Any Minute" are hilarious when you watch them, "Tell Her" and "A Little More Homework" are such happy feel-good songs, "Thirteen" and "Brand New You" absolutely slap, and there are some great audition pieces throughout the show for almost young-adult role you can think of
