Very cool that you mentioned Iron Maiden! I always felt Heart of the Giant had some Maiden influence myself. My favorite track, incidentally. That heavy, descending, staccato riff just demands your attention every time.
As I wrote in part 1, I sometimes write notes to my CDs to find songs, when I don't want to listen to a whole album, I also rank them. I realized, that other than other albums, where all the good stuff is in the beginning and it's getting weaker towards the end, Queen of time has 5 real good songs at the end .. incl the bonus tracks 🤘
@@MaraxisArcanist it's sales marketing ... so you can do 2 versions ... I know other bands where the bonus songs are better than some on the album ... Opeth, Trivium etc
I would start with Skyforger, Circle, or Under the Red Cloud, in terms of album. And then work my way forwards. But any album released in the last decade or so is top notch
Amorphis was heavily influenced by prog rock in their early years after their first album that was almost pure death metal and they were involved with Kingston Wall and Petri Walli was supposed to play a sitar solo on one of the tracks on their second album before his untimely demise. They recorded a cover of the Kingston Wall song "And I Hear You Call" a few years after that. The lead guitarist Esa Holopainen is playing some "The Music of Kingston Wall"- concerts with the original drummer and bassist of Kingston Wall this year, among some other musicians like Mikko Von Hertzen. Just thought it's cool how these bands and musicians and their music is all connected.
very interesting, seems like in Finnland the musicians know each other 😆 Amorphis involved with Kingston Wall, which is good friends with my favourite finnish band, Von Hertzen Brothers. Saw and met the brothers last year at Midsummerprog in Netherlands ... just great guys .. too bad they don't come often to the "continent". But there'll be a new album later this year - I'm excited 😄🤘
I lied a little in my last comment on part 1 Jim....im actually getting Silent Waters next as there was bargain- will be my 9th Amorphis cd ...will make sure i get Eclipse after... To me this band have become almost Aha like in terms of lovely melody's in most songs....theres an almost 'pop' sensibility to some of their catchiest songs, especially the later albums....and yes i love Aha!!
absolutely acceptable ... beautiful melodies ... Take on me ... Hunting high and low ...so much fun, if you try to sing it .... and Stay on these roads ... and many more 👍
I start writing before your final comment to side 2: my favourite song on this one surely is Heart of the giant. While listening I did some research (some of it I knew before) 😆 In 2022 Amorphis released album # 14 - Halo - I had read about it, but somehow missed it. The reason might be, that they had no more contract with Nuclear Blast and the new record complany didn't invest to much into marketing 🤨 They have by now 12 Top 10 albums in Finnland of which 6 reached Nr 1 !!!🤘 To compare : Nightwish has 9 studio albums of which 7 were Nr 1 ... so you can say Amorphis plays in the Premier League of Finnish Metal (Children of Bodom have 6 Nr 1 albums, other metal bands less ). My finnish favourite band, the Von Hertzen Brothers have 3 Nr 1 albums plus 4 Top 10 albums and the reason why Red Alert was only Nr 2 was the release of some korean K-pop band (is that even music? 🤣) named Stray Kids ... I think Kindermusik should have their own charts 🤣🤣🤣 In 2023 Amorphis released a live album - Live at Tavastia - does that sound familiar, Jim ? 😄🤘
Hi Jim, Someone told me to listen to the second song because it only had a little growling at the end. Well, I’m prepared to sacrifice myself😅 for this. Hooray, a nice clean voice, great music. Yes, I like this song. I did survive the last minute😊. I think they could reach a much wider audience if they would ditch the growling. Opeth did it, the Gathering did it, Epica has less of it. Surely this band do it.
React to Tales of a thousand lakes! Their second album but the one they actually began taking form, one of the best! Great example of a pure doom folk melodeath metal! 😂
I really wouldn't mind if you reacted to a couple more of their albums. They're absolutely worth it.
Jim needs 3 lives, if he'd realize reacting to all albums of all bands he likes on the channel 😆
For me it has to be Skyforger🤟
Skyforger would be nice too, but the one he should react for sure is Tales from a thousand lakes!
Pure gold, Amorphis has something for everyone and every mood. I hope they will keep it that way and never change.
There is many superb prog death/metal bands out there, enjoy the discoveries Jim .
Next Wintersun from Finland ✨🇫🇮🔥❤️

@@rudolfbecker4313 Definitely! I really feel like the bonus tracks belong on this album proper.

I always wanted to know where to start with Amorphis. I guess I know now. Sounds awesome. Thanks! Now part one

Banger after banger after banger!

Their singer is so good too! Glad you are enjoying it Jim!
Nice work Jim. I agree with others here that Heart of the Giant is my favorite on this side.

Amorphis are so good....wish I could see them live. Saw that concert online. Amazing. 👨🎤👍

Weirdly, parts of the vocal melody in the chorus of "Wrong direction" remind me of Madonna's "Papa don't preach" 😅 😵💫
