You’re my kindred spirit of design! Im not a pro but apply asymmetry, balance and use negative space instinctually….I call it “making my eyes happy” and my husband thinks I’m crazy too 😂
We speak the same language!! I love it! It’s raw talent and intuitive design. It makes your eyes happy-and it makes my stomach happy😂 our poor husbands 😂😂😂
Love the “HUB” explanation. I also appreciate your lovely sense of humour 😊. Greetings from Rome (Italy). Thank you for the videos. Keep going strong !
Thank you Christina, you channel is one of the most, or the most creative in interior design I have seen, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, I am learning so much,Great video, Cheers Chica, by the way , your hair looks awsome :)
Hi Nachi!!! Thank you for the kind words-I do appreciate it. I’m really wanting this to be creative and fun for you-and different too!! You’re a sweetie. Thank you thank you 😘
You are the freaking 🐐 of teaching design in an approachable, accessible way...there is something warm and encouraging about the way you explain concepts. ❤
I follow several designers but I gotta say, you are so down to Earth. I love your “form over function, otherwise it’s not liveable”. A home can be beautiful and liveable - at least that’s what I aim for. Love your energy and content!
I am the only one in my house who thinks like me. But I make all the design decisions, interior and gardens, because - they don’t know how - and I don’t even know how sometimes - but I make it all feel like a place we want to be. Creatives rule!😊
Yesssss! I love it Janet. This is the intuitive raw talent that we pull from ourselves to create. Not everyone has the passion for interiors (their talents go elsewhere); however, those that do are doing a huge service to others because you make your home a place to thrive from.
Yes!!! I love it! Btw from the web: “Studies have found that people who communicate through active gesturing tend to be evaluated as warm, agreeable, and energetic.” I suppose we are both in good company 🤗
Thank you so much for your videos, Christina. We are going down the coast and hitting a bunch of thrift stores soon and I'm binging your videos for inspo and also for reinforcing my own ideas. I find that I start getting hemmed up and frustrated when I watch other people's stuff. When I watch yours, I write things down in a notebook and get more and more ideas. I find myself asking "WHY NOT???" a lot which makes things so much more fun! I feel like I'm getting a real education here.
Oh wonderful Melissa! 🤗 I’m so pleased to know this and I’m so very excited for your future finds along the way. Sending some love for a safe journey and good thrifting vibes ✨✨✨✨
You're a breath of fresh air! It's funny, I have always painted my ceilings a color, usually a shade lighter than the walls, and now we are starting some remodeling, and I'm switching it up. I just painted our dining room walls, built-ins and crown molding Behr Juniper Ash and the ceiling my favorite white, Swan White. It is amazing! New light fixture, the newly opened up arched doorway to the living room (we found the original arch!), new wood table built by my husband, and area rug. Loving the saturation of color with the creamy ceiling. I like rule breaking in design, as long as the outcome is peaceful.
You hit the nail on the head right there “as long as it’s peaceful.” I’m all about serenity in the home and if we’re breaking rules then it must be with the intention for harmony 🤍 BTW I love that color. It truly invokes a feeling of relaxation in me.
I find so much inspiration here! Thank you for your genuine, keep it real, keep it you in your home philosophy. Your explanations of terms and how you demonstrate and exemplify the concepts make understanding design basics so much easier. From an artist's eye, it finally makes sense 👍 I walked through nature and outdoors with a different eye this week too, taking your advice from another video you shared. I have a very small space and have been able to apply some of your ideas and instruction, the balance specifically. Thank you again!
Oh my gosh babe! You brought a tear to my eye. I’m so happy I can inspire you this way with the videos. I am truly honored that you have applied some of my advice-and that your walk in nature was seen through different eyes. There is so much beauty and inspiration available to us 🤍 You made my day, luv. Thank you,
As a lifevlong rebel this spoke to me lol One thing I've noticed in really curating my space is that my I'm consistant style wise. My closet is a constant space of inspiration. I really love classic prep as a base (traditonal in decor), adding pieces from the 70's (mcm), 90s (post modern), and my own cultural flair. I think sometimes we forget that we can be our own inspiration. Loved this episode!!
Yes that’s so true Toya! I’m so glad you added this in the comments. We should absolutely be our inspiration 🤍 On a side note, interior designers/decorators will look at the way their clients dress and their closet as inspiration to align with their decor choices. So you are on to something-intuitively ☺️ ✨
Thanks for making all these considerations so approachable! And the "rhythm is a dancer" from part one had me humming that along with ya 😂 That song gets me wigglin and it had been too long since id heard it 🎧 🎶 I love it!
Hahaha I love it!! Dance party! Thanks luv for your fun comment and letting me know I’m doing it right! That’s my goal-I want this to be fun and approachable for you 😘
Haha. Years ago my husband was a part of an organization called Humanity Unites Brilliance (HUB), founded on the principle that people coming together can solve our global problems. So when you decided to call your design principle HUB I was all ears. I guess harmony, unity, and balance is core to more than design in life. As an artist myself, I struggle with how to inject all my ideas into my space and have it not be overwhelming. Creating calm and energy simultaneously can be a challenge. Thanks for giving us permission to explore our visual desires and the tools to make it work.
I love this Sandi 🤍 and I think you’re right-harmony, unity and balance are central to all of life. Our desire for HUB ☺️ is also reflective of our desires for our life too! I also find it interesting that these three words seem aligned to the mission of the organization you mentioned 🥰 It’s beautiful when things like this happen!
I love your videos so much, I feel designers have become all samey and your eclectic style is really interesting. I also love the example images in your videos too, do you have Pinterest? As a Jeweller, I enjoy how you explain things, definitely not weird.
Yeah! You get me and the way I explain space! Also thank you! 🙏 I appreciate you pointing this out because I definitely don’t want to be just another interior design TH-camr!
This is next-level, Christina. It's wonderful to view interior design through your artistic eyes. Appreciate the burst of joyful, creative, humoruos energy you put into your videos. It's interior design with a soul and a resonantly beating heart. Sending sunshine from Australia. Joanna x PS it's so apt for a Libra to be espousing balance ;-)
Awww many thanks Joanna! Yes I'm sooo Libra (dropping clues everywhere) haha :D Also, I truly appreciate the kind words you've said about my videos and the energy I put into them. It's lovely to be really seen. Thank you again, luv.
11:01-11:06: I went overboard with my appreciation for wood furniture/decor (desk, mirror frame, bookcase, pantry, entertainment center), so, I added stone/ceramic pieces and large round objects (large, round ceramic lamp; marble-base floor lamp, pill-shaped, plant holder; sprays of eucalyptus, a large ceramic vase (Cricut vinyl storage). I have more work to do. I notice when I look at photos of our livingroom, the walls and ceiling need “something”. I committed to framing a photo that has been stored in my phone since 2020 to get myself started😅
So many things here and I love every single one of them! Yeah on getting the photo! Also your intuitive sense that something is needed-that’s your raw talent! Also your raw talent coming in to balance the wood with other elements-stone, ceramics, & marble pair so beautifully with wood elements. Brava 👏👏👏
Love your advice! I am not a natural risk taker but I did go out on a limb letting my true maximalist side shine in my living room. It's my favorite space.
Thank you Christina for another informative and extremely inspirational video! The wood tone of my dining chairs does not match the tone of my table, but I love it!
HUB. Genius. I had just decided that I needed round or oval artwork in the master bedroom to break up too many right angles. Hey, I'm catching on. I'm sensing a "Christina DiStefano Studio" design book being created. Can I preorder one? Love back to you from Tennessee. (Not exactly the "hub" of interior, design where I live, no pun intended, but it matters to me.)
Shiryone! I love the idea of round or oval art to break up the right angles! Oh my gosh I would loooove to create a book someday. It would have beautiful images of interiors and exteriors, little poems, baking recipes, guideposts for living a serene life, and helping the reader to see all the beauty in the details--hahaha basically a textbook. PS You are making me laugh out loud over here with the pun too!
My only rule is "there are no rules". For many years, I created art to wear jewelry using tiny glass beads like those used by Native Americans and I taught jewelry design classes. A lot of students were frustrated by my no rules rule because they were looking for a "safe" predictable place. My own jewelry has been juried into international art to wear exhibits and 3 of my students went on to win national awards for their jewelry designs. Christina, you're definitely explaining what true creativity is. I love your channel. Edit: Rules are for the "thought police" - those who use mind control and shaming to as a means of enforcing the conformity that allows them to oppress. Yeah rebels!!!
Vive la résistance! How can we create something new and different if we are always doing the same things-including following the same old design rules? I want to see new things. Lost things brought to life again. Things that “they” say not to do but then someone does it and it is amazing-or not but at least they tried ❤️ Our home of all places should at least be the one place in this whole world that we can make our own, from what is in our heart. PS Your jewelry sounds intriguing as does your class! Lucky students to have you opening their hearts to create.
I enjoy the educational process of your videos. I never watch videos that start out , never never do this. My first thought is what is up with that statement. Love your videos.
Thanks for watching Cindi 🤗 and for sharing. Definitely a rebel kind of approach to decorating over here. It’s how we get the fresh, new and fun stuff!
You'll get there Carol! Maybe right now get the décor and then when you have that, you can move on to color--you'll want to pick something based on this anyway. When you do please share!
You are so engaging, and you know what you are talking about!! As an ex fashion designer, each of your visual examples gave me a rush of excitement with their rich textures, colors and contrasts. (BTW, I once had an assistant with the last name DiStefano. I couldn't help but wonder if there was any relationship...)
Ohhh fashion designer, that was one of many creative outlets for me at one time, then I went into painting and photography--but fashioned as continued to inspire my paintings and interiors. Was your assist based in NYC? This is my husband's name whose father is from Sicily. Also--thank you! I appreciate you sharing your response to the videos--that actually gave ME a rush of excitement! As a creative, I think you can pull inspiration from other forms of expression and certainly translate that into your art.
Thank you for such an informative video, Christina. I love how you educate us in such an approachable manner with practical advice. I am so happy I found you and will binge watch your channel over the weekend. Also, what lipstick are you wearing? I love the color.
Thank you Tina for both the compliments!! I’m happy you’re here and I can inspire you 🥰 Oh and the lipstick is from Westman Atelier, the shade is Minx and it feels like silk! It’s very moisturizing and lovely to wear. I appreciate you noticing! I wanted to spring it up!
Yes 10000% :D Just because it's always been done a certain way doesn't mean it's "right" or should remain this way. Thank you for contributing Michelle and confirming that old and new should be mixed together! XOCD
Just discovered you and I’m hooked! Thanks for the videos, I’ve been inspired by the advice and the photos that you reference. Some I’ve had in my Pinterest for a while, yet can’t put a finger on what I like about them. Already subscribed and looking forward to more videos 😊
Awesome! Thank you Huda! I love nerding out on what makes a space interesting to the eye. I'm so glad you liked the video and that you are here--ANDDDDDD I'm looking forward to making more videos to inspire you!
Yes I can add that to one of the future videos. Thank you for the feedback 🤗 Quick comparison between the two so you get something now is that unity is about the overall feeling of the space-how everything works together (like a united group, think about when people unite and come together). All the items in the room come together to create the overall feeling. Harmony is how those very same items in a room relate to each other-are they in conversation (or argument)? So they’re very similar in terms of the overall feeling, with unity being the umbrella and harmony is the interaction between the people standing under it.
I just found you today and I have already watched like 6 of your videos, and I am in “creative mode” since video 1!. I am straight woman, but I think I’m in love with you 😂😂😂. Jokes aside, I love the way you present things and the “energy” you put into it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio You've already awakened my creativity. Can you believe that yesterday, I couldn’t sleep because I was thinking about all the things I want to create? How I’m going to reorganize things and some 'art' I want to make?. All those ideas were flooding my mind, and I was so excited I couldn’t sleep! 😁😁😁 I must admit I’m an artist 'at heart,' and those projects have been on my to-do list forever, many of them waiting in my garage to be tackled. Thankfully, actually thanks to YOU, I have the inspiration now. (If this is what happens after just a couple of hours of watching you, I can’t imagine how it’s going to be as I continue getting inspired by you 💕💕💕.)
Okay, I am getting what you say but then you throw in the predictable, sinister bedroom and I think shoot, I didn't think that. Lol. Thanks for teaching us.
Hi Lorraine-sorry babe, I didn’t buy these. I filmed this at one of my development projects but I do know we have purchased silk florals from Afloral in the past.
Hello, I recall on one of your Q & A videos last evening, that a lady was trying to figure out what to do with a door entrance next to her stone fireplace, which had three deer heads on it, with two different sofas. If a sliding barn door was installed and stained or painted right color, would that create a cohesive look, giving some contrast and warmth, next to her stone fire place? Also, does she have a favorite color for her sofas? If she doesn't want to break the bank, there are companies out there, like 'SURE FIT', that may give her a chance to experiment with color and texture possibly, to put over both sofas. Until she decides to splurge on a sectional, if she chooses. Also, painting walls a different color later, may give way for further inspiration, once she decides on a budget friendly route to go. I'm sorry, trying to recall her name. Just recall really huge stone fireplace Ì believe and three deer heads mounted on it. Would you pass this information onto her. You got me thinking about. It. Maybe she could in future, create a den for her husband to install in his own guys riom/den. Like back in the day when men liked to hang out in their own parlour if you will. Then she would be allowed to make some changes to this space if she wishes. I find sometimes it's a challenge to redeisgn with different styles in decor, between partners. If that's not the case, I hope she will take them as suggestions and really hope she gets inspired from your video. Loving your videos! ❤ Brenda C.
Hi 👋! I love mixing old with new. And I love asymmetrical designs. I think I’ve achieved it in my l/r and d/r spaces. However…in my b/r for example I prefer symmetry with my bedside tables and lamps. For me mix matching those pieces feels and looks oddly cluttered . 🤷🏽♀️ Kinda weird right?
Hi Evelyn!!!! I totally get you and I am the same with my bedside tables and lamps. I am also a bigtime lover of classical symmetry--the example I gave had too much contrast (the thick black line right in the middle, the patterned wallpaper, the bedspread pattern) these left the room feeling like the walls were closing in--so with all that there was just too much for the eye to take in. You can never go wrong with classic. I usually use this as a base, for example our living room has a sofa with two barrel chairs mirroring each other, as well as two large painting on both sides of the fireplace, and a large square table in the middle. I mix it up a little by adding in wood floor sculptures to one side, while the other has a floor lamp.
I don’t follow any rules to be honest. Never have. Exterior or interior, we get lots of compliments on our home we have passerby’s yelling as they drive by “WE LOVE YOUR HOME” we hear it time and time again..I guess I did something right..😂
Hi Ann! It was made by FRAME and I bought it a few years ago from Saks Off Fifth (I think or maybe Nordstrom). I love silk blouses--they are so timeless and will last for years.
Thank you, Christina! I also love silk blouses and have started buying vintage ones - having a lot of fun with it. On a different note, REALLY love your interior design work, Sound principles, great style!
@@anndyercervantes8352 I really appreciate you saying that Ann! 🥰 I think silk is so beautiful on women 🤍 also vintage-which I love so that you stand out and show your uniqueness! I would imagine it’s even softer.
@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio thank you !,in my opinion, your channel is one of the best channels in this field. I am eagerly waiting for your next video and wish you all the best.💙💚💙💚
Interesting and to each their own-especially in their own home. I agree with you when it comes to poorly, unintentionally mixed metals. These are an eye sore to me. However, when done right, adding cohesive variety sharing similar tones gives a more designed and curated look.
I looove your Design Master Classes! It's more educational for us, than the boring and impersonal cookie-cutter advices from the other channels.
Thank you so much!! I’m soooo happy you’re loving them and more to come 🤗

As a creative, I think you can pull inspiration from other forms of expression and certainly translate that into your art.
im obsessed with your videos!! Fav new channel
Thank you Sabina! I'm so happy you're here and I'm looking forward to bringing you more videos to inspire you :D XOXOCD
Love mixing old with new. Some rules are meant to be broken. Great content ❤
I've got functionality going everywhere throughout my home. Storage. ✔ Conversational. ✔
Access. ✔
Yeah!! You’re on top of it 👏
Lamps also come into play when you're focusing on scale. The wrong size lamp can throw everything out of balance.
100% agree! All design elements must be considered 😉
Loving your channel! Could you say more about the difference between harmony and unity, maybe with examples?
Yes I can add that to one of the future videos. Thank you for the feedback 🤗 Quick comparison between the two so you get something now is that unity is about the overall feeling of the space-how everything works together (like a united group, think about when people unite and come together). All the items in the room come together to create the overall feeling.
Harmony is how those very same items in a room relate to each other-are they in conversation (or argument)? So they’re very similar in terms of the overall feeling, with unity being the umbrella and harmony is the interaction between the people standing under it.
got it! thanks!@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio
🤗 Yeah!
Awwwwwww babe 🥰 I’m flattered. Thank you for being here. I hope to continue to inspire you with fresh videos to awaken your creativity 🤗
I must admit I’m an artist 'at heart,' and those projects have been on my to-do list forever, many of them waiting in my garage to be tackled. Thankfully, actually thanks to YOU, I have the inspiration now. (If this is what happens after just a couple of hours of watching you, I can’t imagine how it’s going to be as I continue getting inspired by you 💕💕💕.)
@@Lotus0305 Ha! You sound like me when I get an new idea or am working on a design. My brain goes all over the place but in the best possible way.
Okay, I am getting what you say but then you throw in the predictable, sinister bedroom and I think shoot, I didn't think that. Lol. Thanks for teaching us.
Haha nice CD! You know I’m always happy to make these videos for you 🤗 Thank you for tuning in!
Not sure howI missed this video. Great content. The flowers behind you are so stunning, wondering if you can share where you bought them?
Hi Lorraine-sorry babe, I didn’t buy these. I filmed this at one of my development projects but I do know we have purchased silk florals from Afloral in the past.
Quality channel and content, Christina. Bravo!
Thank you so much! I’m so happy you enjoyed it! 😘
Hello,
I recall on one of your Q & A videos last evening, that a lady was trying to figure out what to do with a door entrance next to her stone fireplace, which had three deer heads on it, with two different sofas.

Thanks Brenda!!!!
I like this woman!
Awwww thanks babe!!
I like this girl!! I just subscribed 😊
Awwww thank you Raquel 🤗
Not Weird!
Yeah!!!! Happy you get it 😉
excellent! 16:10
Thank you 🤗
I don’t follow any rules to be honest. Never have. Exterior or interior, we get lots of compliments on our home we have passerby’s yelling as they drive by “WE LOVE YOUR HOME” we hear it time and time again..I guess I did something right..😂
Ahh well good for you!!!
The burning question....where did you get that BLOUSE?!?!?
I think silk is so beautiful on women 🤍 also vintage-which I love so that you stand out and show your uniqueness! I would imagine it’s even softer.
For me, open airy legs on a sofa, and the room immediately feels less cozy.
I get it! I like both-suppose much of it depends on the space.
@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio Right. Legs help make a smaller space look bigger, so that's a plus.
Exactly!!! 😉
💌🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
Hi!!! Thank you for all the cute and positive emojis!!!!
@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio thank you !,in my opinion, your channel is one of the best channels in this field. I am eagerly waiting for your next video and wish you all the best.💙💚💙💚
Awww thank you luv. I really appreciate you saying this. I do work hard to make sure you’re getting value from them 🤗
You had me until you suggested mixing metals. It’s like spinach stuck in someone’s teeth, I can’t focus on anything else in the room 🫣
Interesting and to each their own-especially in their own home. I agree with you when it comes to poorly, unintentionally mixed metals. These are an eye sore to me. However, when done right, adding cohesive variety sharing similar tones gives a more designed and curated look.
