The point about open storage is spot on. I have built in closed cabinets in my living room. It looks clean and elegant but inside I have pillows, electronics, books, and miscellaneous. Everything is easy to access but out of the way.
This video hits the nail on the head. Minimalist shouldn't mean 'less furniture'. It means 'less stuff', so if you get there by having MORE furniture, then you're on the right path. there's ways to hide the furniture or write it into your space so it doesn't stick out, though. :)
I've worked for lifestyle magazines - not specifically for design and architecture, but I know one of the best ones in my area, some of them are even my friends, and I've never heard so simple, charming and easy to get it explanations. You are wonderful, happy to find you. I have an inspiration to make some changes in my home.
In my traditional home, we have a fairly large living room with a wood burning fireplace. The only logical and symmetrical place for our tv is above the fireplace. Personally I’d do without the tv there but since I don’t live alone and my husband loves tv it went above the fireplace. Since for us it’s far enough from our sofa we never have to hurt our necks to watch tv. I do understand that spaces that are smaller where the tv is very close to the sofa it would be very uncomfortable to watch. I would love a stunning mirror instead but for now it is what it is 😂
I hate the tv above fireplace look. The tv should be at about eye level sitting. So what we did was position the couch to be able to see the fireplace, tv on wall and look outside in one swoop. We actually decided the room into two seating areas. One for tv watching and the other for entertainment. House builders do not think of practical layouts for how people really live and where they will place their furniture. So we have to be creative.
1:10 laughed so hard at reality because it’s pretty much everyone I know around me. I keep telling them they need ones with doors but no one listens to me and they wonder why everything is ugly. Your matching point is so true. My mother loves loves traditional furniture which means EVERYTHING MUST MATCH. the anger it causes me knows no bounds it’s so 90’s and early 2000’s it hurts my heart even if those pieces are actually really amazing good quality. In fact I took out the couch and put it in another living space to break up the set and just that makes it so much prettier. I do need to burn the coffee table…..it’s time is coming I swear. Please do one on libraries! I want to make a small den into a library.
I made an old coffee table into Art. I had an old Poster of the 4 elements. The pictures were Gothic style. I put it on the table top and lacquered it. Trimmed it with a brass strip with brass nails. It looks amazing! Don't throw AWAY furniture with Good Bones
@ this coffee table is Massive, I can’t even give it away. I’m a shorty at 5 ft tall and I could easily make it into my bed. And I stub my toes on it…that’s the main reason it must die 😂
Hey, I just wanted to say I’m really loving your channel. The way you focus on psychology and practicality in home design is so refreshing. It’s such a good reminder that a home should feel comfortable and work for us, not just look nice. You’ve given me so many great ideas 💡😊
So pleased you popped up in my feed. I enjoy your sense of humour! I'm currently renovating in the UK and soooo tired of Americans with their castle sized homes and double height ceilings...
Literally went home and put a chaise lounge and a Chester chair on a not-quite right rug and I feel like it really pulls the room together. Just even having one leg on and angled inward makes it so much better. The rug had previously tried to anchor an oversized couch, and it wasn’t working. I moved it forward 3 feet and tucked it under the chairs. What a difference! Thank you so much for these practical tips!
This channel is fantastic. You dont beat about the bush, and get straight to the point with animations/visual examples. Most interior designers just loose my attention because they take forever to illlustrate a point.
I am so happy to have found your channel. I am moving cities and downsizing big time in a few months. Your videos are practically addressing so many of my questions. I'll be going through your Playlist. Thank you so much 💖
Your videos are so educational. I appreciate the dedication and time you put into preparing each “lesson” ❤ thank you for the great tips and advise. The only element I would always avoid is a tv in the living room 😊 ❤❤❤
I just bought a place that has five TVs, one mounted on the wall of every room except kitchen and powder room. There is even one in primary bathroom. The builder was a young man with different priorities, I guess. I will be removing some.
My bachelor cousin has double size trailer with three bathrooms but only one extra large room……I can’t That’s just ridiculous I laughed so hard I thought I peed myself when he told me it wasn’t a lie
My issue with Renting. Is the lack of appliance outlets. So to place a TV and stereo and extra lighting .. becomes difficult. Using a multi plug in one outlet can be dangerous. I recommend Led battery lights. You can get Led candles and lamps and lighting strips. Just replacing the batteries can be a chore. So. I purchased.. rechargable Batteries.
I have been to numerous furniture stores and four cities surrounding me and I have seen in the last six years that I have been shopping for living room furniture all they have is this gigantic overfilled over stuffed furniture. It’s big it’s bulky. It’s ridiculous and does not work in small spaces, I have resorted to ordering furniture from Amazon sellers and add a fraction of the price of local furniture stores. I do love my club chairs that I bought on Amazon. I love the little sofa sette almost as much.
What’s your opinion about using wallpaper as an accent wall in an open concept space? Could it work to create interest and separate one “room” from another?
Lovely video very useful! Just a constructive critique from someone who loves youtube interior channels is that you could lose the soundtrack behind your talking. You have a pleasant speaking voice and what you are saying is interesting and insightful and the music detracts from that❤️ subscribed
Thank you so much for the tip! Yes I do think that sometimes I rely to much on background music, as I worry people will get bored 🙈 In my latest video "8 Tips for a Cosy Home" (th-cam.com/video/NzEFxxKVHxM/w-d-xo.html) the volume is quite low and the style of music very chill -- would love to hear what you think about this audio? Thank you ☺️
If you have two sofas facing each other in the living room, would you go for the exact same model in the same color or two different models varying a bit in size and design, but with a similar matching color?
I currently have two matching sofas in grey velvet facing each other, identical (we picked grey because of our cat....); however, if I would refurnish it, I would actually pick a sofa on one side, and 2 armchairs on the opposite side, because it's more flexible, and I would make the armchairs and sofas be in different colours and different models, so it feels more curated and less formal; that's my personal opinion though! Some people prefer symmetry and a more formal vibe.
I hate high tv our one was so high it was like being in a picture theater it was horrible, now taken down and on a chair and so comfortable to enjoy now.
"Open storage" is actually supposed to be "open decor", something you use instead tad of paintings. As in, decide if you want wall art, or wall shelves with decoration. Never ever "store" things on open shelves, that's not what they're for (unless it's bookshelves and you're using them to store books).
Me and my dad have a tv above our fireplace, but it can work. Not all fireplaces are very tall, and our couches are about ten feet away, when paired with the tv being BIG, it actually works and looks great 👍 ❤😊
Soooooo….there is a difference between open storage and open shelving and then closed storage. The problem with closed storage is that it invites hoarding and not using things. If you are storing something you are not using the thing every day. So put it, well labeled, in a closet. But if you use it every day find a way to have it accessible.
Yes! It took me many many years to get the license so I am not giving it up so easily 🙈 although I am focusing on smaller residential projects and not large commercial buildings
TV over Fireplace: BAD FENG SHUI!! (Double Fire). BIG "No no!!" And.... I always think it's an immediate indication that the inhabitants of the house do not know how to converse (Subtitle: Uneducated).
I am a minimalist and I don’t like a lot of stuff. I like it clean and airy. And I don’t agree with you about the matching concept. What you are showing in your video is way too much staff who is going to clean all that? Too many pictures on the walls.
Yes!!! Overhead lighting makes you TIRED!
I have JUST discovered you and very happy to have done so. You are very funny and intelligent!
The point about open storage is spot on. I have built in closed cabinets in my living room. It looks clean and elegant but inside I have pillows, electronics, books, and miscellaneous. Everything is easy to access but out of the way.

The TV above the fireplace bothers me so much, I get neck pain just from looking at it in photos or videos 😅
Keep the movies nice and warm 😅
I knowww, I'd be much happier with a normal piece of artwork or a mirror above the fireplace.
If the fireplace is the only focal point in the room, I like the TV above. Detest much more if TV is adjacent and area isn’t streamlined
In my traditional home, we have a fairly large living room with a wood burning fireplace. The only logical and symmetrical place for our tv is above the fireplace. Finally! A great interior design tips video that uses metric system! 😂
My brain just does not compute inches and feet 😅
Such a good comment! 😂
I'm also really happy I found this channel!
I had to use Google for conversion. 😅
Such great tips Bai Xu! Really enjoyed this one :) also appreciated the Friends clips here and there haha

Right? Yesterday I wanted to ask a window repair man if he would knock the cobweb from our 16' ceiling. We don't own a ladder tall enough🥺
I'm always dimming lights at my friend's houses, this video makes me feel seen! Such good, practical advice to have a warm, inviting space.
I love these videos. They're unique, and not like anyone else's.
❤ love here 8:39 yes, a convincing argument to just buy the right size furniture, the first time😂 lovely. Found you & enjoying your content 👍

Yet another room we need to rearrange/redecorate 😂 thanks for the tips!

🙈 oh myyyy. Yes I would definitely remove some too, artwork and photographs would be much more beautiful than a TV in every room...

Can you do a video on piano placement, including mini & baby grands??
I love your videos, they’re so helpful! 🥰✨❤️
Love combo of your knowledge & fun attitude. Intelligent AND down to earth ❤Love to see your cat. Can you give inches as well as metric please?
Yesss will do!

Hi @baixu, do you recommend white brick wall paper in a small living room behind the tv?
I’m really enjoying your videos. Thanks you.
Thanks for watching!
I just came across your videos .
U have a very likeable personality.
Lovely. All the best for your journey .

Can you put the measurements on your videos for both metric and imperial system?
Will do for future videos, thanks for the tip!

Happy you found a good solution 😊 considering how much time I spend in front of the tv… ergonomics is so important!
Thank you for the TV ideas
I loved this video, thank you
You can buy a TV pull-out to pull down the TV above the fireplace mantle
Nice video! 👏👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey Baxiu,
Would you consider a virtual client in Westchester, NY? 😊
yes, of course! Just write me an email :D hellobaixu@gmail.com
Thanks for interesting video. Nice to listen to intersting topic when the girl is pretty 😊
Did I dream about decorating a new flat today? Literally 😂 I had the feeling I was in a nightmare tbh haha❤

Nooooo open storage! Big on cabinets and drawers! 😂
Soooooo….there is a difference between open storage and open shelving and then closed storage.
The problem with closed storage is that it invites hoarding and not using things. If you are storing something you are not using the thing every day. So put it, well labeled, in a closet. But if you use it every day find a way to have it accessible.
Low ceilings cripple the space.
I’ve been wondering when someone was going to call out the TVs being way up high! 😂
Haha we definitely need to talk about this more, it’s everywhere!
The furniture round the edge of the room is terrifying, I have seen this, straight back upholstered chairs all around the walls. Empty centre.
I loathe open storage, they look cluttered stressful and get dusty plus they breed. Attract rubbish around them.
You are SO PRETTY❤
☺️☺️
Do you still work as an architect? I use to be curious about that career when I was younger.
Yes! It took me many many years to get the license so I am not giving it up so easily 🙈 although I am focusing on smaller residential projects and not large commercial buildings
Lovely
Put an ACTUAL Painting above the fireplace (and show some class).
TV over Fireplace: BAD FENG SHUI!! (Double Fire). BIG "No no!!" And....
I always think it's an immediate indication that the inhabitants of the house do not know how to converse (Subtitle: Uneducated).
好玩儿😊
But the dancers need space to pirouette without hitting their legs and arms! 🤣Just kidding. Don't let the dancers or musicians do any interior design.
I am a minimalist and I don’t like a lot of stuff. I like it clean and airy. And I don’t agree with you about the matching concept. What you are showing in your video is way too much staff who is going to clean all that? Too many pictures on the walls.
But some people prefer that. It is preference and free choice. Some minimalists would call an empty room with one chair "cluttered".....
I really hope you use inches or feet too....
Missing cat. Hahahhaha
Lol "everyone looks kind of ugly " facts 😊
🤣🤣
