Given that the elder Ood’s forebrain appears to be significantly enlarged, do you think it’s a reasonable assumption that eventually an elder Ood becomes a giant Ood brain? Seems pretty unlikely than an independent species of creature would play such a big part in the Ood’s biology.
Such a lovely piece of worldbuilding, its really rare to find a truly "good" hivemind species in sci-fi, their society's mix of beauty and unfamiliarity really makes them perfect for a show like DrW
Ah. The Ood the distance cousins of the Illithid (aka Mind Flayer). Much like the Ood. Illithids too have a central brain that controls all other Illithids and servant species. And an Illithid's duty is to feed it knowledge to the Great Brain and that knowledge is shared to others. And when I mean "feed" I do mean it. An Illithid dies in the process. So if an Illithid came across an Ood....well fuck. Ood are done. Game Over. No, reset. In truth, the Doctor should be scared if that happens. All that knowledge. They could travel through time.
I personally always assumed they greeted others via a bow similar to what the Japanese does. But honestly, the idea that the Ood either shake each other's brains or gently tap each other's brains in a "brain-bump" is a helluva lot more deep and strangely cute. . . soo, yeah. =)
Honestly evolving on an ice world doesn't make sense to me. As it leaves the tiny brain open to be frozen? It was a very interesting race for the plot use but odd that it existed.

Weird but i guess in an alien way they don't percieve it as sinister, they are showing him 'mercy' by allowing him into into their song, kind of like a malicious payback for removing their hindbrain.

Could you do a Cultural Index video on the Goa'uld Empire or maybe just the Jaffa from the Stargate franchise. Actually, videos of all of the major of Stargate like Asgard and the Ancients+Ori/Ascended beings would be cool.
Total stab in the dark guess here - they were created by a long-since disappeared species for some reason and then abandoned and left to fend for themselves, and over time the Ood lost the memories of this event, or the creators telepathically mind-wiped this memory.
There's literally living flesh eating shadows, creatures that turn to stone when you look at them, shape-shifting lobster people, creatures that make you forget you ever saw them and sentient snow in the who universe, in that light the ood are quite normal

I converted a Mind Flayer mini into an Ood. I'm working on collecting Sci-Fi/Fantasy tentacle heads. I also have some Quarrans from the Star Wars minis range.
It is obvious that the Hanar are far from being the most developed mass effect race, because they are from the secondary races but they have their charm.
You should do either the House or Beast at some point, i'd love to see your review of both. One is 'supposedly' satan, and the other is something that *eats* TARDISs
At their height of being super intelligent, it must have still been very narrow. For example, with having a wider field of knowledge of various cultures, histories, and civil developments they would have know they would need some plans for defense. This alone would limit their docile and trusting outlook.
I wonder if they'd be that vulnerable to the Borg. I mean, sure the Borg would assimilate a bunch of them, but they may be the telepathically strongest race out there. The Borg queen would be ousted almost immediately, and the Borg would become completely pacified.

Well some franchises have the whole life seeded idea. Basically there was a single humanoid race millions of years ago and they spread their DNA throughout the stars in some way.
