This is one of the best books I have read in my life. You do not need to be an Agassi fan, tennis fan, or even care about sports to learn from it and enjoy it. Andre Agassi is truly one of a kind. Even though he is in a much better place now and at the time of this interview, you can still feel his pain when he discusses his past life. His openness, honesty, and pure genuine nature are such rare traits. His dedication to education is admirable and genuine.
I never saw this interview. I read his book a few years ago and loved it. What I find remarkable here is his presence, grace, and intelligence. Very impressive Andre!
Best thing I ever saw in sports was this man coming back to best Medvedev in the French Open final . Saw this man in Bradenton all the time as a kid playing at Bollitieri. Good memories
Meth, gives you incredible energy, creativity, and drive. Meth is mostly psychologically addictive not physically (like Heroin). Agassi (shaved head version) came up to me (obviously high) at a bar (during the afternoon) in the 90s (probably around 96ish), I had cued up my pool shot and he put his hand on my shoulder and pushed me out of his way so he could cue up a shot on his table behind us. I spun around and pushed him back because i don't care who you are and then his (bodyguard) brother picked me up and threw me on the table. I landed on the balls and flipped off the other side at which point the bar threw me out (of course). It was a funny event and makes for a good story. No hard feelings Andre :).
Haha, damn that's wild. Wouldn't think this apparently mild mannered fella in the video would do something like that. Also, was his brother a big dude?
I used to not like him as a player, until he grew older and started showing how he'd never give up. Even if he was down two sets, with him you knew he might still pull it off. Seeing him recovering and giving everything until the very end might have saved my life. It certainly has been an inspiration in my life.

I don’t know how many times I’ve had to tell people but if you have popped an adderall, desoxyn, or ritilan then you have experienced the feeling of Methamphetamine. Obviously street meth is on a different level but the effects it gives you are essentially identical. Just because the drug is prescribed to you doesnt change the pharmacological action of the drug 😂
Every interview on youtube was conducted the day or day before it is uploaded to youtube. So yeah, Letterman must still be on. Hasn't aged a bit since 2009.
Brooke Shields talked a lot about Andre's explosive temper and jealousy, and you can definitely see shades of that when Dave is talking about the physique of Steffi. I do not think that was an act. It doesn't change how I feel about Agassi though. I always rooted for him in every match he played.
Dave's comments about Steffi's body was NOT COOL. There was absolutely NO need to bring it up. It's not courteous for another man to comment on someone's partner like that. Disgusting and disrespectful.
Good on Andre for not tolerating David's comments about Steffi. David have definitely had moments of misogyny on his show, about time a MAN came on with zero tolerance.
I lost all respect for Agassi when in an interview with he and Pete Sampras, Agassi said that the reason Sampras won more majors (14-8) was because Sampras had a one dimensional life focused solely around tennis while he had a healthy, varied life with many different interests. He said that with Sampras sitting right next to him. Sampras was steaming, but he was a gentleman and didn’t respond. I thought that was totally uncalled for to diminish a competitor’s accomplishments like that.
I don't think the Late Show was a great period for Letterman interviews... now thats completely different since "My Next Guest" but, I have to say this one was really great, and he seemed genuinely interested in the book at Agassi's comments.
Andre Agassi became a millionaire because of Tennis and because of his dad's support, 7 time grandslam champion, 39 yr old at the time of the Interview but still complaints that his dad forced him into the game and he was not interested in Tennis... dude needs to stop complaining the easy life he got, I havent seen a thankless sports celebrity like this in any sport... these tennis players get thousands of dollars for one match and they play a tournament every week or every other week... He is a messed up man internally, I wonder if he would have been more focused he could have won more slams and more success...
Andre knew a tell on Boris Becker. Boris would stick his tongue out to the side of his mouth and then he would serve the ball to the side. If there was no tongue it was straight. Boris thought Andre was a psychic that knew where he was going to hit the ball! Half joking. That kind of skill and visual acuity / awareness was just one of his tricks to beat his opponents. Smart guy to say the least!
He's actually a thoughtful and introspective person... rare for an athlete I think.
He is so in touch with himself and articulates this in a manner seldom heard, at least by me. Well done Andre.
It's a great book, especially for anyone who followed tennis during Agassi's career.
I didn't realize how much a fan of Andre Agassi I was until I saw this interview! What a good brotha!
He may have dropped out of school early but you can tell he's very intelligent.
