Shaf is the best. We live in the same town and I met him once outside a local bagel place, a few months after Late Show went off the air, and we talked for about 10 minutes. Couldn't have been nicer.
True musicians understand why Paul is so good. Always about helping the songs, and their writers. Humble, to the point of unease, like Dave. The show wouldn't have been the same with anyone else. Master of Versatility...Love Ya Paul!!!😶🌫😎
Something truly genuine about all three Letterman shows back in the day. Something that’s sadly missing today. At least we have dancing kitten videos to watch now. Ok, maybe I’m just being nostalgic. Love them dancing cat videos.
Thanks for fulfilling the request. I really appreciate it. Paul Shaffer has a lot of really interesting stories. I know that Paul has performed with a lot of jazz musicians over the years, and you’ve had a lot of jazz musicians perform on your show, Dave. I’m a jazz buff myself. I also host a jazz radio show here in Amarillo, TX every Sunday night. Plus, I launched a jazz podcast last summer.
Not many people may be aware that Paul co starred in his own sitcom in the late 70s, it only ran for a few episodes and was not picked up after that but I do remember watching it when I was about 13 or so.

What a legend❤
So cool watching you guys back then, and now, when you get together on Barbara's show. Thanks again Paul & Dave!
I got to meet Paul way back in 2003. He couldn't have been nicer, such a cool chill dude.
What a great team ! ❤

I have Paul's book, and I need to thumb through it and read it again.
What has always been completely lost or forgotten about Paul is how funny he is. Loves music but also really loves comedy.
Such a treasure of stories / memories! Paul Shaffer has more than so many I guess.

Best TV duo ever...
Thats so nice, what a legend :)
Paul, I’m waiting for your book
❤️Paul🎶
one of the best guess segments on this show. scratch that. THE best segment. He should've been a bigger speaking part based on this clip
Best sidekick in history
R.I.P. Paul Schaefer.😢
Here Jan 2025. "2 tons of fun" absolute lol ... epic story
I hope he included a chapter on how I saved the first Rock and. Roll Hall of Fame inductee ceremony., at least..
Paul's book is great, same with the one by his buddy Martin Short.
Paul IS ALIVE, right??
Yes this was just a viewer request
I'll have what Paul's having.
I feel like Paul maybe had a little bump right before this segment.
You say potato, I say patoto, you say bump, I say rail
TIL paul schaffer co-wrote Its Raining Men
The wife was probably prescient, Paul always threw off a huge gay vibe, not that there's anything wrong with that!
I don't know, but check out his interview with Whitney Houston.
👍👍👍👍
wow
I was the 69th like on this video and I stand by that decision.
Boring!
