Fix Extend Volume Option Greyed Out In Windows 10 | Extend C Drive

- In this video, you will learn to fix extend volume option greyed out in Windows 10 while extending the disk partitions. If you want to extend the C drive but unable to do so because extend volume option is unclickable then you have some options depending on the disk partitions on your PC.
I have discussed all possible situations and their fixes, so watch the video till the end before applying any of these methods.
Note: It is advised to create a system restore point before following any Windows tutorial.

Sir in the aomei app I merged unallocated space with C drive but when I opened my C drive in this pc option it's again showing the old space of 60GB...is the above app for real..I mean why it is not working in my windows 10 core i3

Making space with the AOMEI wasn't a part of the free trial version of it anymore, ended up deleting the recovery to fix this issue. Thanks a lot!
Did it worded for you when you delete the recovery drive? and did you find some problems with your pc after that due to deleting recovery drive ?

Thank you SO MUCH FOR THIS! I just cloned my 120 GB SSD to a 512 GB SSD and could not allocate the unused space to the C drive because the recovery partition was between the C drive and unallocated space. With your help, I deleted the recovery partition, successfully extended the C drive, and used Macrium Reflect to restore my recovery partition from the original 120 GB SSD. Easy peasy!!!!

Brilliant! A comprehensive set of solutions explained...PLUS...I downloaded Aomei Partition Assistant FOR FREE and did it in seconds without deleting the recovery partition.
On a laptop HP EliteBook 850G8 I used the Windows Backup in order to upgrade the SSD from 250GB to 1TB. After the operation, the C: drive had 250GB, after it, it was a 500MB recovery partition and after 700GB+ unallocated and the extend of C: was greyed out. I used the tool mentioned by you in order to move the recovery partition at the end of the disk and after that, I extended the C: with the Disk Management embedded in Windows. Everything worked smooth and fast. Thank you!

I don't understand why it is so difficult to do this in Windows and one has to resort to using a third party software for this.. 🤦♂ I cloned my old SATA SSDs partitions to new M.2 one, converted it from MBR to GPT but I couldn't get rid of the unallocated space, it was really frustrating! I'm glad I found the solution now! 🥳

The solution that worked for me was to select the unallocated partition in the command prompt and type "delete partition override". I was free to extend the C partition after that.

For anyone who's still unable to extend the C drive, **MAKE SURE TO CHECK IF THE DRIVE IS ENCRYPTED OR NOT!!** In that case, turn the encryption off then try again. Thank me later ;)

Very helpful. Thank you. However you should also have explained about the reboot required options. This software has two reboot options Windows PE mode and PreOS mode. It would be great if you would have explained both. But thank you so much !! You saved me!!

@@vilasakaviadarshraju3982 I tried Windows PE mode and it worked fine. It took a lot of time approx 1-2 hrs because I had a partition of 120 gb with 110 gb data in between

this did not work for me, it want to install windows PE, etc. and reboot... I decided to use one software I already had it, MiniTool Partition Wizard, I did not merge but Extend it and it did the job without rebooting my Computer.

@@balibalibro2417 not necesary ...i just deleted it :))) fk that shit :)) ....on my windows 11 no way to appear extend or merge on any program without pay for the software :)))) .. not even in cmd i canot do the delete that part and extend ....si the only solve for me was to delete that small partition that was betwin the C drive and my free space to merge with :))))))))))...... (and that recover fk it ...i will see what to do when drive decide to crash out and not start :)))))) ....mabe put a small drive instal the windows on it(wich these days is free and can do it in 5 minutes( .....so instal win and recover data and that it ...:)) good luck yall

Hmmm, downloaded AOMEI. It shows the unallocated space, but when I r-click on the part of C that I want to merge it with, it doesn't show up as an option. It says I have to merge two adjacent partitions.

Thanks, AOMEI PAA worked like a charm. It did however cause a BSOD when I first booted after this operation, which I had never experienced before this. I hope it was the first and last one.
After merging my partition was showing empty and unable open it i was so panicked then i restarted my laptop then my drive came back with merged space...(who ever is facing this problem after merging just restart your PC) thanks for the video sir 😊

No, I didn't get the option after right clicking on C drive to marge unallocated partition. Actually the "marge partition" option was disable there.

Thanks so much! AOMEI tool worked like a charm. The newer version of this tool seems to be prompting an additional dialog and I used the default option i.e. PE mode which worked just fine. Computer restarted an entered into a boot mode that automatically opened this tool and everything went smoothly and restarted again back to normalcy.

it restarted by itself from the second attempt, the first time I got scared and closed the computer. memory was allocated successfully

For what is health recovery needed
If we plan extend disk in future, better option is move 'System partition' after 'Recovery partition'. Recovery partition / System partition / Unallocated.
It worked for me only after I deleted two recovery partitions from cmd.. Thanks for the delete partition override command

If you have issues like that you don't have to do all these things. just reset or format your PC to the factory setting it will reset all back to normal state.

Can you help? After I delete the volume and the next step is to delete the free space but the problem is 'Delete partition' on free space is grey out ..I cannot get the unallocated partition?

On my Windows 11 computer, I tried NIUBI, which didn't have the option of merging partitions, at least on the free version. Then I tried the free version of AOMEI, which DOES have that option. Now, I've merged the unallocated space with the primary partition! Thanks for the help.

i have got this dialog box : "Detected the used space of *: drive is larger than the free space of c: drive. Merge partitions may cause data loss on *: drive. We suggest you back up c: drive before merging partitions." Should i proceed?

Thanks, that software worked in extending my C drive! My C drive was tiny because I got a new large hard drive and cloned it from the old one, but it took the small hard drive as a partition and I couldn't figure out how to extend the volume, but this worked!
