Yea she became queen at 18 and married after the was made queen. She had 9 kids while she was the queen and all her children married off into different Royal families in Europe. This gave her the title of the grandmother of Europe.

Today 9/8/2022, Queen Elizabeth II died. The longest reigning monarch in the history of the United Kingdom and second longest reigning monarch in the history of the world. She had just appointed the 3rd woman Prime Minister. She died peacefully with most of the family saying goodbye. She rejoined her husband Prince Philip and her Father King George VI as well as a long list of former British monarchs. So ends the second Elizabethen Age.

Everything changed with the death of the Queen. Now there's a King in England who is unable to keep the monarchy or the Commonwealth together like his mother was, and he is extremely unpopular. Now the National Anthem of the United Kingdom is no longer God Save the Queen, but God Save the King.

I think he meant "longest currently living reigning monarch" and "longest reigning British monarch". There are a couple of monarchs who reigned for longer than Elizabeth II, but she's still living, and they're not.
Simon, I remember reading in Schaller's book "The lions of the Serengeti" when I was a docent at the Memphis Zoo about the night Princess Elizabeth heard of her fathers death. She was staying with him & his wife at their home at the time. He said "a young girl climbed up into my treehouse a princess. She climbed down a queen". I could tell by the way he wrote that this was a moment neither he nor his wife would ever forget. The occasion was very solemn. Thank you for this great bio of Queen Elizabeth II.

I really hope when Elizabeth passes, Charles abdicates immediately, passing the crown directly to William. Charles is too old already, and mired in scandal of his own; while William seems to be projecting the same image as Elizabeth has.
It's highly likely that Prince Charles will abdicate, he would not risk the massive blowback. They've been grooming Prince William to be King for most of his life.

I've long admired her devotion to her family and her nation, and her sense of duty. She has a great resemblance to her father in this. I think I can see that sense of Duty in Charles also, and it is already evident in his sons. When Elizabeth is gone, in think that the family's duty and devotion will continue.

She is the definition of class. As an American I have witnessed few politicians that have the poise she does. Michelle Obama comes to mind as one of the few. And every time I see her with her husband I see how she looks at him. It's with the same love and admiration from her early photos. They look at each other like no one else is there. It is beautiful and I hope that my future husband looks at me that way after 70 years together.

Queen Elizabeth holds the record for the longest reign of monarchs who are *currently* reigning. The longest reigning monarch ever was Sobhuza II of Swaziland who reigned for nearly 83 years (thank you, Wikipedia). My apologies for being so picky, but I felt the title was a little bit misleading. I love the new channel and look forward to more great biographies!

Exactly, I was actually just thinking that, myself. Unfortunately, people tend to forget about the ancients, mainly due to the fact that records started being kept much more regularly w/ the introduction of Christianity, Church Registries, etc.

There is also Northern Ireland, the fourth part of the UK, hence the title of her being Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
She is the reigning monarch in England where her throne is, it's not in other parts of the UK..... muppets the monarchy was here long before we were United

@20:20 I have had the privilege of having a number of animals in my care. StarFire and SkySong were two of my favorite cats. Slither was a pet garter snake I had, Minuet was a Brazilian Mouse Possum. I had a Virginia Opossum as an occasional guest in my home (not a pet), Ratatouille (a baby rat) was brought to me by my cat StarFire, and I had a mud-skipper as a pet fish for a time. As an aside, I don't recommend getting a mud-skipper as a pet. Although they are very engaging animals, they can-not be breed in captivity, and I don't want the wild population depleted. I did not know that at the time, or I would not have gotten one. Other animals I grew up with, and considered pets were a Chicken (Henrietta) a Chinchilla (Mulechand), several turkeys (unnamed) Several dogs, my favorite was one named Snoopy which our cats would mob constantly because they liked him. I've also had several betta's (Siamese fighting fish) whom I named after letters of the Greek alphabet, so those would be Alpha Betta, Betta Betta, Delta Betta and Gamma Betta. Alpha Betta used to come up to me and lay in my hand as I stood at the aquarium admiring the fish in it.
