Many of Lennon's songs spoke of love and romance, others of harsh feelings of despair and sorrow, while others were of peace, and so on. Troubled genius, gifted musician, and a hurt man may John Lennon rest in peace.

All very true, couldn't have said it better myself. I knew it was bad news the moment I heard Lennon was moving to New York. Really. New York City was always infamous for its high crime rate and maniacs. I totally expected him to get robbed or killed. Many people won't remember how famous Lennon was by 1980. He was walking around New York trying to act like a normal person which of course was impossible. He should have had a couple of bodyguards with him most of the time.

Yeah, by society's standards, he wasn't. What is a great man, really? I mean, he's the most honest person in pop history, which is already super inspiring to me especially today, against the current pop's fake, money-making attitude. With his songs and campaigns, he's probably done more for peace than any other music artist, which is huge (not for the act, but for the effect). He advocated for the truest, most important things in his art, imo. He wasn't perfect, but he was certainly one of the few who admitted it, and talked about it (took me a long time of criticising him till i realized i'd been hiding under my faults without ever admitting them, most do) People want to feel good with themselves so they do the easiest math: "he advocates for peace but hasn't been peaceful throughout his whole life, he's just a hypocrite." So many people stop exploring past this point. So many people get disappointed after realizing he's not the saint he painted himself to be with his art, while actually they should appreciate the fact that his art actually made him look like that. That is the power, and can be the point of art. His art is not about him, it's about the art - the music and the lyrics. I am definitely a lennon fanatic, and i was convinced he was an angel at the start. I only learned his true genius and art when I accepted that he's a human being. He's definitely brought so much more good than bad into this world, and the good surely surpasses almost anyone else's. To conclude, people, i believe if you get out of your ego, you'll understand this is one of the greatest people to walk on earth, but again i guess we need to define "greatness" to say that.

His difficult youth left him frustrated, paranoid and schizophrenic. By his own admission, he was not a very nice guy. He, also, just happened to be ingenious and a natural leader.
My favorite John Lennon story has to do with his father, who left the family when John was seven, but contacted John after he was a successful Beatle, requesting financial aid. John agreed to meet him on a park bench where the father reiterated his need for financial assistance. John told his father he would indeed help him---but only for seven years. That was how long his father had stayed with the family.

Weird.. I've read tons of books on John and I don't recall that story. Firstly his dad didn't really stick around at all. John only saw him a few times as a child and the last time (prior to his father coming around when he found out his son was famous) was when John was five. I believe John gave a job to his dad's very young wife years later but never heard of him directly giving him money nor saying it was 7 years worth (especially since that wasn't even true).
I definitely think John had some emotional issues to work out due to his messed up childhood but he does not seem like he's either paranoid or schizophrenic. From what I've read he was angry a lot in his youth and depressed later on. From songs you can see the depressive elements...he also had bad insomnia which he also sang about. He had a lot of loss in his life and a lot of pent up pain which was why drugs were appealing to him...especially opiates when he was with Yoko during the last year of the Beatles. Troubled is definitely the right word. People say he's a horrible human being and he did fight a lot as a teen, but I think the woman beating is probably overblown. According to Cythnia he only ever hit her once (written in her own book). I think he might've done more emotional abuse than anything (he could say cruel things) but I think that was changing near the end of his life after going through therapy.

thewho186 you have got to be kidding me about Lennon not been a good leader . He started the Beatles he negotiated with Epstein very much . He recruited Paul And the rest . So good a leader Lennon was that a government-wanted him out of the USA 🇺🇸. Tell me what real life movements Paul directed ? Paul music is silly and lovely too but but does not lead you to think much. Lennon on the other hand makes you be thinking deeply . It makes you want to change or to despise the system . Paul was a good manager but not a superb leader .

FYI: “Lennon composed "Imagine" one morning in early 1971, on a Steinway piano, in a bedroom at his Tittenhurst Park estate in Ascot, Berkshire, England. Ono watched as he composed the melody, chord structure and almost all the lyrics, nearly completing the song in one brief writing session.”

If you were a working class kid growing up in Northern Britain during the '60s, '70s & even the '80s, John Lennon was about as close to Divinity as most of us got. For me the music of the Beatles & particularly the songs he wrote hold a special significance. I'm a music freak, I've got an enormous record collection & I've seen many hundreds of bands live but to me Lennon's music is more than just popular music, for me it's like going to church might be for a religious person. I think I can safely say there'll never be another Beatles or anyone like John again. He truly was unique.

The Monday morning after the Beatles' debut on Ed Sullivan, everybody came to school with their hair combed down in front and over their ears as much as possible. I was in 10th grade. The teachers were frantic, they roamed the hallways with their little violation books, and wrote up dozens of guys for dress code violations. The Principal's office was packed,we didn't care, and life was never the same.
My parents hated rock, they hated hair, and they were absolutely dumbfounded by free-thinking. The Greatest Generation was stuck in a rut,and they didn't have the creativity or breadth of thought to get out of it. Regimented America took hit after hit as the barriers were broken. When I left home a couple years later,my mother told me I'd never amount to anything because of "too many dates and too many Beatle records."

gigglyme2001 I don’t care if you did this for laughs or whatever, I’m not mad if anything I am disappointed in the fact that Lennon’s wishes of peace, happiness, and respect were all torn. Love is a message that radiates from The Beatles whether you like them or not, artistically they pushed the idea of love. Even though, Lennon was a greatly troubled in his personal life he used that passion and translated it into his music. Although, I only like one song of his, Imagine, and much prefer Paul’s music over him doesn’t mean that I don’t push the same ideals as Lennon. I may not be as confident as he seems to be with all of this peace and stuff, but we all want peace, we all want to be happy. So, I find it, for lack of better word infuriating, no, humiliating for you to be rude and disrespectful to somebody you’ve never met, when this video outlines his whole life down to his death. I have never hated anyone, but I feel pain, what you could classify as sympathy for those who are bullied/hurt from people who don’t know them. However, I realize that this may make me sound like a hypocrite, but I don’t like for example Yoko Ono, who is just a manipulator who brainwashed the spineless John Lennon who finds one thing mind blowing and falls to your feet. Don’t get me wrong here I adore The Beatles I have a lot of respect and nothing but love for them, but I’m not a liar, I realize that what Lennon has done in the past don’t reflect well on him and we all make mistakes, which doesn’t excuse anything he’s done. Anyways, I got off track there, but I found it necessary to state that I am not being biased and I just find it soul crushing that you have the audacity to comment a rude opinion about Lennon (which you have a right to have) on a video that’s describes his life and ends with his MURDER. If you don’t like Lennon, I understand that, I personally don’t know how to feel about him, but don’t on top of all that anger John Lennon fans and afterwards pretend or act or put on a facade that this was all a joke and insulting someone is how you get your daily dose of laughter. It is repulsing, disgusting, and just overall concerning to see how you present yourself to strangers and the internet. All I’m saying is you should reflect.

There is a very revealing line in the song "Nowhere man" which is about him totally being disillusioned with the life of a rock star, the grueling tours which went on forever and his domestic life with Cynthia and Julian falling apart. Long time friend Klaus Voorman spoke with Lennon on the shoot for "Strawberry fields forever" and he said that Lennon broke down in tears ranting about how unhappy he was.
That revealing line from "Nowhere man" is "Isn't he a bit like you and me?" with which Lennon basically says "I'm human, you guys are human, don't you recognize this, we all got through a phase in our lives like this don't we?"

Did the other Beatles BASH all their Girlfriend's? And constantly start fights.. and admit they were extremely Violent like John?He beat up that British DJ so badly, John even said, if he had punched him one more time "he may have Killed him".
Did other Beatles ignore their kids and let them go on public housing?
Did the other Beatles marry a control freak like Yoko...and call her Mother. And let Yoko screw over Julian in his will? No, John was not a just a "slightly troubled Guy".
None of the other Beatles ever acted like he did. Of all the women in the world he picked YOKO? Pathetic is the only word you can say. May Pang was the best thing that ever happened to him.

Its a testament to his strength that he came as far as he did. With his violent tendencies, he could've easily become a serial killer or something. She made Julian buy back the letters he wrote to his father and the letters John wrote to him, not to mention she tried to hide The Lost Weekend and May Pang’s existence entirely. Also during The Lost Weekend, John (with May encouraging him) was about to go down to New Orleans to see Paul, but as soon as Yoko heard, she called him and John told May what she said: “Yoko says I can come home now.” (Later on, Yoko said she thought John was having an affair with Paul and was a closeted bisexual). I could provide many other examples of Yoko Ono being terrible, these are just a few examples.

Sadly John had to cope with the fact that neither parent actually wanted him. His father disappeared when he was like 2 or 3 and never wrote or had contact until well after John had become famous. He showed up at the door with his new wife, (who was much younger than him), and John smartly shut the door in his face. For years he thought his mother was a friend of his aunt until much later. By then she was living with another man and was caring for the children she'd had with the 2nd man. That's enough to make anyone angry.

I think it’s cuz mushrooms are basically a psychedelic and a slight poison. So they just don’t feel good. All I know is, after the acid, even tho the trip turned bad, I still had a better and deeper understanding of life. I just can’t really describe it. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad trip, but just too intense because it was allegedly in liquid form. I hear that’s the best usually.

Gary Daniel oh man cut with bug spray?? That’s just down right not cool. Super nasty. Yea ur probably right about the potency. At some point it was pure liquid. I imagine if it were cut with pcp and the user didn’t know, that could turn into something they didn’t anticipate and that could turn out to be bad. I’ve never tried pcp and I probably won’t ever. I’ve never even seen it in person. But I have heard that pcp by itself isn’t as crazy as you hear stories about. But that’s just what I’ve heard. I think maybe all those videos on TH-cam of people freaking out on pcp, they were probably using it along with crack or speed and alcohol. Because the videos I’ve seen are always in the ghetto and there’s lots of the “dirty” drugs in places like that. If I ever were to allegedly ingest lsd again, at least now I know what to expect and as long as it’s pure, I think I could get something good out of it. I wish I knew a chemist.

Sorry to take it to a dark place but I'm too young for john Lennon's death and the beetle break up but for me it was 9/11. Im in my mid 20's and Australian but maybe my most vivid memory I remember moment by moment was turning the TV in the morning for cartoons in primary school on almost every channel you were just watching the news replay the planes over and over again.

I think he wrote Imagine when he was still in England. I've seen footage they shot of him playing the white piano at Tittenhurst. It's on the Imagine documentary I believe.
He was a human being with faults. Complicated, he would respond to hurt, grief, etc. with anger. He spent too much time in his head and was an Idealist. Nothing is ever perfect, and what happens to an Idealist? They become cynics. He regretted many things, but to the end he tried to be positive. I believe he actually did believe in love and peace, but he wasn't always perfect, no one is.

Why is it so difficult in these videos to show pictures that relate to the story? Talks about Harrison joining the band in 1958, shows a picture of Harrison in 1974. WTF? And there are many more examples of this. If the pictures don’t tell the same story, why make videos at all? The discrepancies are grating to fans in the know, and deceptive to those yet learning.

Lennon was a genius, no doubt about it. He wrote both of my all-time favorite songs, Imagine and Woman, from the Double Fantasy album. He may have been a jerk in many ways (who isn't?) but he truly loved Yoko. Anyone who reads the lyrics of Woman can only hope to be loved so deeply as he loved her.

    • @hellsjamfleas
      @hellsjamfleas 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

calichef1962 I disagree. I think that song is about how troubled thier relationship was. In double fantasy there are refrences to her having a new man and how he'd wronged her but it was ages ago and she shouldn't still hold a grudge. 'Woman' is alot more begging for forgiveness. But there are alot of simular songs going all the way back to the imagine album. It gets wearing if you listen to them all. I wouldn't personally call it a great love. I don't like some of the actions Yoko took in the 60/70s but I think she would have been happier leaving him and I felt sorry for her.

John said himself that it's the most violent people who go for love and peace. His own son called him a hypocrite. He wasn't a good husband and he was a negligent father. Granted people can change and he didn't deserve to be murdered, but people making him a martyr is absurd.
