      She wasn't actually insane. All the accusations were made up by the catholic church and the Habsburg house since she was a wealthy calvinist with huge lands and had no man to protect her after her husbands death. The catholic church ripped every rich widow like a swarm of vultures, especially if they were of an other religion.

    I'm also shocked that this story hasn't been made into a horror movie or two. We almost never see sadistic, evil, bloodthirsty women in horror movies. This seems like a great story for such a movie!

    • @mikaellapineda9797
      @mikaellapineda9797 6 ปีที่แล้ว +102

      There's a movie about Elizabeth Bathory entitled "Stay Alive" it was inspired by her story.

    • @ethanayala9955
      @ethanayala9955 6 ปีที่แล้ว +106

      There are a few but aren't really good. They don't portray her true life very well, and mainly focus on the folklore.
      Also, I don't think a single movie can portray her life accurately at all. (Even if the movie is 3 hours long.)
      Bathory's life was violent since she was a child (literally.)
      Only a series might do her justice. For a series to accurately portray her life, they would need to:
      1. Get into her childhood and talk about the environment she grew up in. (This is what creates the villain that she becomes).
      2. It would have to be a hardcore series. (No joke). In her real life she killed a crap ton of people in extremely depraved ways. The series would have to include on screen murders and tortures that would make you sick to your stomach.
      3. State the influences of her husband and her closest servants on her sadistic fate. There were at least some.
      4. State how the King and Thurzo owed her money, from her husband's time at war, and used her crimes as a way to clear the debt owed to her. (Yes, nobody arrested her andout of moral outrage, only political motivation. 1/2

    • @ethanayala9955
      @ethanayala9955 6 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      5. Show her ultimate demise and the trial that got her servants executed. And show how she tried to shift all the blame on her servants.
      6. And finally her fate in a bricked up room.
      There is a-lot of other things that can be talked about too. You can see how one movie won't be able to accurately portray her life.
      The biggest obstacle for the series would be the extent of on screen brutality that can be shown. This is why it is probably hard for people to accurately portray her life today. But it would extremely likely be a huge hit in the homes of people. It would have a-lot of things people would want to see on TV. Like you stated. 2/2.

      @Mr Meow it is obvious you don't know much about historical life. She would not have been looked at as a child. It was not uncommon for girls during her time, especially nobles, to get married at 12. They knew how to run a household and handle servants. Childhood did not last a long period back in her time. Only in recent history do people stay children for an increasingly long time. You can not judge history by our standards.

      This video is completely wrong, it's all fiction! I am Hungarian and I am aware of the history of my country. All you need to know is that the accusations against Bathory are considered false by historians and the whole process is a witch-hunt.
      Elizabeth Bathory managed her estates of hundreds of thousands of acres, supported Peregrine students studying abroad, and treated her serfs with great affection. Her letters, which are considered authentic, clearly show her to be a noblewoman of social sensitivity and devotion to God. She also practised medicine, and her castle was a hospital. It was probably the confiscation of her estates that was the reason for the false and conspiratorial accusations against her.

    Hi! I'm from Hungary. I see your point of view and it is hard to deny that owing to the legends, we might think that the "Blood Countess" made a lot of terrible things, but according to some researches of Hungarian historians Elizabeth Báthory wasn't insane and she was just the victim of a show trial. This is based on the facts that for example the countess had no interrogation, which was actually unfair according to the Peace Treaty of Vienna of 1606, and her servants were killed right after their interrogation. Maybe György Thurzó wanted to weaken the Báthory-dynasty or the countess' son-in-law wanted to get the lands of Elizabeth. Otherwise I really liked your video and I think it's really informative.

      As I stated on another comment, reality is probably somewhere in between. There is little doubt that there is some exaggeration to the stories but over 300 people testified against her (only the coconspirators were tortured into confessing) and literally none of her family came to her defense.
      So yes, there was probably some ulterior motives at play but to assume she was some innocent angel who was solely victimized is ahistorical pap.

      Unlike most of charges of witchcraft, sodomy, heresy and devil worship leveled by the church that was done simply on word and false witnesses alone to be even remotely believable, I think there was more than enough direct evidence linking her to exactly what this video says. This is given even more credence considering that it wasn't done by the church and nobody had an axe to grind against her politically. Actually, she was clearly more of a cash cow for everyone.

      @@jwhyte67 Yeah, I wouldn't say that she was an innocent angel, simply history was/is always cruel for women if we consider the examples how the men tried to hold back any of the possible historical women.( I'm not a feminist or something like that, but those were other times. By the way I wouldn't have thought that my comment could get any replies as it was simply a task in my class to comment under this video so I didn't mean to trigger anybody. There is some debate as to whether or not she actually committed the crimes she was accused of, or if she was in fact an innocent woman who was falsely accused by the king of Hungary who didn't want to pay back his debt. Supposedly, the king borrowed a large sum of money from Erzabet's husband and when her husband died she tried to get him to pay up. There is also no evidence for the donkey story, that she suffered from epilepsy, that she and her husband tortured servant girls, or even that she murdered anyone. All of the "witnesses" as well as her coconspirators were tortured prior to giving their testimonies and Thurzo also may have had ulterior motives. It is interesting to point out that the king's debt to the Bathory family was forgiven after her incarceration (from what I've heard).

      @tylerdurden3722 4 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      The Dracula version is told by Germans.
      The Romanian version sees him as a hero.
      Vlad's method of cruelty was mostly psychological towards enemies.
      The Ottoman Empire was a superpower who was busy conquering the Balkans. Vlad knew he couldn't take on the Ottomans directly so he used every trick he could.
      Guerilla warfare, scorched Earth, etc. Including psychological warfare. That is, he impaled 10's of thousands of Ottoman soldiers in locations he knew the Ottoman army would march past, in hopes of demoralizing the Ottoman army. Those tactics were effective.
      Vlad once dressed up as an Ottoman and took a strole in the enemy's camp to identify the Sultan's tent. (He was raised as a hostage under the Sultan. So he could speak the language fluently). Later he returned with soldiers for a night raid, all dressed as Ottoman soldiers, to assassinate the Sultan. The Sultan was in a different tent at that time. He escaped with most of his men. The Ottomans continued to slaughter each other until morning in confusion.
      Hence why Vlad was seen as a hero.
      At one point, the Saxons (German people) in Transylvania rebelled, led by Vlad's brother, who was a pretender to Vlad's. He used the same tactics on them. Thus, "Vlad Dracula" was born as a kind of propaganda war amongst the Germans in Eastern Europe and Austria. Leaflets like these were distributed. Dracula is based on such leaflets.
      But he did do some weird things. Like inviting all the beggars to a grand feast and burning the building with them in it.

      The conspiracy theory unravels as soon as you look at how important her family's legacy would have been to everyone associated to the family.
      Seriously, try to frame it from the perspective of any other noble woman: she becomes widowed, so all of her children and associates plot together to invent some story about how she's a serial killer the likes of which her people had never seen? To take her stuff? That they had access to anyway?
      No, the reality is that she had only been allowed to carry on with her behaviors for as long as she did because everyone turned a blind eye due to her status. Even the trial was kept as minor and shushed as possible while still giving some consolation to the countless families who lost children.
      It was in everyone's best interest for Erzabet Bathory to be a good mother and pillar of the community, and the last thing anybody wanted was for her to be put in a cell. To say that her own family wanted to get rid of her in an organized coup is insane.

    I'm disappointed that the only focus of her story is the "urban legend" aspect of Bathory's life. No mention of how Thurzo benefitted greatly from painting her as a villainous murderess in order to get her claims and fortune. Also, all "testimonies" were given under torture, which is inadmissible.
    Did she do such things? I'm not sure. However, to only paint one story is highly disappointing and not at all accurate to the full story.

    THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH. I LISTEN TO YOU OFTEN. I APPRECIATE ALL THE TIME YOU HAVE SPENT GATHERING THE INFORMATION IN YOUR VIDEOS.
    You are entertaining and the research you put together keeps me listening to you.
    I know a lot about many of the subjects and people you choose but what is so impressive to me is that I can almost guarantee you will share things about someone or something I hadn’t ever heard about I think your channel is fantastic and I think you are an entertaining narrator. I never get bored listening to you nor do I start to think of other things because, like so many, you NEVER SOUND MONOTONOUS OR DULL.
    Thank you for your time and energy you put into your videos.
    It is impressive how you are able to put together just the right pieces of information to tell an entire story. You do this quite well.
    There is one last thing I would like to say to the people who comment...
    This is something I am going to add to all my replies from now on.
    It gets so sad when I see people work so hard putting entertaining videos together just to be knocked down and most of the time, for NO REASON, people just want to be nasty because their lives are not going well so they have to try and bring others down too.
    It would be very interesting to those who critique people’s videos negatively create their own channel.
    I know from my own experiences in the entertainment business how difficult and draining filming of any sort can be.
    I don’t think negative people understand what is involved in creating a channel and branding the channel.
    People need to understand a person creating a channel has to find the right subject and research, something to catch a whole lot of people’s attention and interest to keep people keep coming back.
    The information has to be read and broke down which could mean thousands of documents and pages need to be reviewed.
    Once all the research has been read a decision needs to be made of what information to share.
    This decision not only must be entertaining but, only a very small amount of those possible thousands of pages of information can be used while still being able to give viewers the entire story.
    Also, the right pictures need to be found or illustrated by hand which must resemble every episode, a style people recognize.
    Filming which more often that not, follows overuse of vocal cords due to take after take, many times, over in order to keep continuity and remain the same with every episode.
    Finally, cutting and editing while as I said keeping an original motif, keeping a similar appearance, form, characteristic.
    A channel needs to have just the right look and sound that scream “unique, enthralling,” creativity which will engross and captivate a viewer and a channel that does not have an appearance of another, not like anything or anyone else.
    This in of itself can be fatiguing, especially always maintaining a format people recognize as a particular individual and channel.
    So people, before you have something negative or just want to be a SMARTY PANTS, why don’t you create your own channel and do it so well that you have thousands or millions “following” and “liking” you, then come back and write your rude comments. I guarantee you won’t.
    The world needs to stick together and help each other out.
    Support people, there is good and bad in everything. It is just as easy to point out the positives and if you are pointing out errors to help a person or giving constructive criticism try doing it in a tactful manner.
    Try changing your thought process, look for all the good points in people’s channels, write those comments and ignore the things you don’t like or just don’t watch that certain channel.
    Your lives will drastically change for the best by thinking this way, for this I can honestly tell you because I have seen it many times.
    TRY SEEING ALL OF THE POSITIVES IN EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING AND WATCH YOUR LIFE CHANGE FOR THE BEST.
    Take care everyone and have beautiful days.
    I hope everyone can take this thought and just try it for 1 month, only say and write positive words so that is all your brain sees and hears. It is a fact that your brain will physically change for the best too!!!
    You will be very surprised and so will everyone around you. Things will start going your way.
    P.S.
    Forgive me for any errors for I am so tired I could barely keep my eyes open and cannot write or edit another word.
    .

And her castle in which so many cruel deeds took place fell rapidly into ruin. Rising over the buried dungeons in that god-forsaken wilderness, a solitary tower, like some monument to Evil, is all that remains. When the political climate changed, Alexander insisted that the marriage be annulled. Her second marriage ended when her brother murdered her husband for reasons that have never been clear. Her third marriage was also political and lasted until her early death after giving birth to her eighth child. She was 38
